BONUS TRACK: What Y'all Want - (N. Jones, S. Gibbs) Title: Hip Hop Is Dead... The "N" Artist: Nas Original release year: 2006 Label: Sony/Def Jam/Ill Will Guest Artists: Bravehearts; Jay-Z; Rakim; Kelis; Damien Marley; Pharrell; Busta Rhymes; Michael Jackson Stereo: Stereo Studio/Live: Studio Pieces in Set: 1 Catalog#: 108773-2006 Desc: Performer Additional Notes: Top Personnel includes: Bravehearts; Jay-Z; Rakim; Kelis; Damien Marley; Pharrell; Busta Rhymes; The Game Producers include: Timbaland, The Neptunes, Will.i.am, Dr. Dre, Scott Storch, Saalam Remi, overhyped rapper #1, Just Blaze, DJ Premier, Nas, L.E.S. Engineers include: Eddie Sancho, John Crouse, Steve Souder, Ray Adler Unlike its predecessor STREET'S DISCIPLE, HIP HOP IS DEAD harkens back to Nas' commercial pop-crossover albums as well as the poetic glory days of ILLMATIC. The New York hip-hop legend returns to the thoughtful, introspective philosophy that turned heads early in his recording career (with a little help from rap legend Rakim, the ever rambunctious Busta Rhymes, and former foe Jay-Z). Indeed there are some attempts at fancy, hook-laden production (thanks to Pharrell, Kelis and a newly invigorated Michael Jackson)--but most of the tracks go out of their way to be workaday, subservient frameworks to the lyrics. Sampling records (Louis Armstrong's "The Skokiaan", The Doors "Hello I Love You") that have never been used by other rappers, Nas makes it clear that his focus here is not only on the message but also on the sound. Lyrically, Nas addresses weighty topics as mortality, true love, religion, politics, family, personal responsibility and, of course, the currently “deceased” state of hip-hop. Those themes might seem far from the thug-life reveries of many of his contemporaries, but for Nas it's business as usual. Ironically the record proves that rap music is far from dead.

DMX "Year Of The Dog...Again", August 1st Release
mfuqua23 replied to bigted's topic in Caught in the Middle
Actually, in an interview on KMEL heard on a Kay Slay mixtape a few years ago, Irv said that the only Ja Rule song formulated like DMX was "Holla Holla", and it was by design. He was like, (and I'm paraphrasing) "Can you see DMX with a song like "Put It On Me", or "I'm Real"? Has he ever done a song like that?". So Turntable you're right. "Holla Holla" is the only legit argument, which Irv Gotti said "Alright, I'll give you 'Holla Holla'." That's it. Even on demos, Ja had his own style than DMX. -
Raheem DeVaughn - Where I Need To Stand This fits perfect to a situation I'm currently involved in. Oh how music can relate to life.

"But what I dont get/whats really funny Is how many of these people/ are on the grind for the money Man Im on the grind for whats important/and thats true happiness Cars clothes and hoes / does not bring me this" - I really like that Real good word usage Tim. Tracks like these are real cool. When you say "forthcoming track", does that mean it will be an audio?
-
If I had to guess, I'd say it'd be on a weekend. That's ussualy when these podcasts go down.
-
Yo Tim, I got a track. It's called "Stylez & Skillz", part of that mixtape I've been organizing, which is nearly done. It's over Will's Switch beat. I can send it to ya over AIM.
-
Yeah, haha. If I told you who did it, I'd have to kill ya. :kekeke: If it's of any reassurance, that person was of the female persuasion, which is more than we can say for your tastes huh? Tiffany?

Will Tim Price be a regular shout out by Will and/or Jeff on albums, shows, etc. now?

JJFP/Big Will mentioned in Source's 200th issue
mfuqua23 replied to bigted's topic in Jazzy Jeff & Fresh Prince
I disagree with Tim on '93. Influential, what all goes into that? Obviously, selling is one for sure. It's either really big numbers or considerably impressive. I imagine that's one point they looked at. Had to if you look at these lists. Yeah, I was thinking the same thing, about the list progressively getting worse. It would've been nice to see their Top 10 from 1987 and back. -
Fruity Loops has been frustrating for me. Just when I think I could be on a nice beat, I screw it up. Or I'm not sure if it sounds good enuff. Hopefully u've done better than I have thus far.
-
I heard that on the radio like last week. I was sorta shocked. Perhaps Ja Rule will make a "comeback"? Tatyana Ali - Its Alright

If JJFP is coming back with an album, will it be the final one? What questions did Jeff ask you? Does he know your telling us this information? Does Jeff have any fresh new talents he's working with and bringing in the game?

The beat is real dope. What was that? Sounds like the dude in ya sig, Dr. Dre. Anyway, even tho the lyrics was simple, I think you could've delievered with more emotion. Maybe put a bit more substance in the lyrics and made it longer.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY BRAKES!!!

Marv n Cash - ImWusHapnen

It's decent. Who is this J-Shin guy? I think you should've just mixed him alone over the "Unfaithful" beat. Maybe the tempo of his vocals needed adjusted just a tad for it to sound the way you wanted.

I've been working on some new stuff, so I might have something fitting for the next music podcast.
-
Well wasn't it just in a podcast all it's own a month or so ago?

I would get one, but I don't have a paypal account. And can't afford to fool with credit cards. I'm only getting stuff by money order. Props to ya Tim for entrepreneurin'.
