Talib Kweli - The Proud (from the album Quality) Talib Kweli - Where Do We Go feat. Res

I can't be the only one whose trying this?
-
OMG, this is so freakin great. I just wrote the perfect lyrics I've ever wrote last nite. Tim, you are the man
-
"I touch you 'cause I show you my truest fears It's hard and sometimes my face is full of tears" - These lines reminded me of Pac. PRetty cool song.
-
"I know some girls don't like public affection How do you think he feels when he gets public rejection Take it in that direction, loves a blessin If I trip let me fall, I need to learn a lesson" - these lines are so me. Really dope. I see quite a bit of lyrics for "Neutral Ground". Will we see a track list anytime soon?
-
"One dark morning she got up the wrong side of the bed Looked at her covers and all she saw was red... ...Then one dark night she was raped in an alley way Can’t blame anyone because it’s an ordinary day" - these parts just threw me off. It's like the fluency of the story broke up for me. Or are these 2 different instances? Other than that, story is deep.
-
This would be a dope spoken word to present amongst a lot of people. yeah, have you recorded anything yet?
-
Album looks quite street. However, I am curious how Mythological Theories ties into it all. and willreign, can u give me those sites also?

50cent mentions BigWill in song "What if"
mfuqua23 replied to Fresh-Ta-Def's topic in Jazzy Jeff & Fresh Prince
Ewww. Sorry, but in all of 50's track record, nothing is like How Do U Want It. Or anything else of Pac's for that matter. Just one line sets Pac away from 50's entire songs. And you weren't thinking the same name I was. I don't see Nas as a hustla artist. Sure he's got good work ethic, but hustler isnt quite it. I don't see how you could either. I was actually thinking of Too Short. -

Actually, Ja did do a lil bit of a controversial album. Remember "Blood In My Eye"? I don't think it got the response everybody thought it was gonna get. And when did 50 get his butt kicked by Ja Rule? I think it was only for the moment. To me, it's weird and funny at the same time. Everybody was on 50 when it came to "Get Rich..."; reciting lines and arguing about stuff. You see Ja come out with "New York", and people is reciting that hook of his. The fans are not "soldiers" in these rappers wars. Just spectators. So they don't feel they're on one side and not the other. It will be interesting to see how 50's going to make money afterwards. This movie should be the final straw of him telling his beginnings. Unless he purposely left stuff out. Something's gonna give for 50, unless he makes his next "smart hustla move". Nobody has really had the credibility to go face to face with 50. Fat Joe and Ja has really been the only ones to "try" to do something. Nas can't really be an even contender. Especially now, since he said he's not sweating 50 til he gets more albums under his belt. Now the deal with Game, that was just a lil backyard scuffle, and then everybody forgets about it come the weekend. 50 and Game have gone separate ways now doing they're own thing. 50 has the media on his side a lot of times, so someone is going have to distract some of that media to them, and then attack 50. Truthfully, LL has probably the greatest chance, but he can't do it right away. I mean, he's got more credibility as a battler than anybody still in the game now. Eminem, has lost his luster; face it. And he and 50 are on the same side. Jay-Z, is very much done as far as being that big emcee that he once was. He's very much like Michael Jordan. Your only going to relive the highlights now. If I were to play, I can't give you the same game I used to. If 50's going to find a new contender, and lose to him, it's gotta be: LL Cool J (and note that Jay-Z is running Def Jam) If it's going to be somebody who just won't die down, it's gotta be: The Game (as of right now) But again, anything is possible. And Ted, here you are saying that hustla music is watered down. Name me somebody who isn't/wasn't a watered down hustla artist. (I really wanna see if your gonna be thinking the same name I am) And 50 and Cube aren't the same people. Plus the times were different, you gotta keep that in mind. It's not like the stuff Cube said back then couldn't be said today, becuz it very well could. Which is why I'm lookin very foward to his new album coming out. I wouldn't call myself a fan, but I've enjoyed the stuff he's done. -

It's funny you should mention Pac. I was reading in Dec. '05 of Vibe about Henchman (who has been around Pac/Biggie and 50/Game). He perceived that what Pac did with the whole Biggie/Bad Boy, is the same thing 50 Cent is doing. Looking at music as something stupid or intelligent seems like a bad way. To be quite honest, 50 labels his stuff as Gangsta Rap, but I just can't see him like that, even by way of his image. Seems more like Hustla Rap to me. And here you are saying 50 is dumbing down his stuff. A lot of us have. But it's like your insulting someone who only got to Algebra, while you got to Calculus. Or they got their High School Diploma, while you got your Master's Degree. I'm sure if you were to talk to 50, he'd ask at least what two of the words you used meant. (I mean if some non-everyday word is actively used in your vocab) I hear Mos Def, and understand nearly everything he speaks in his lyrics. Of course, I didn't always. When I listened to Pac, I didn't know what say, irraticate meant. I can only wonder how the "music business" seems to go. You can never be too sure of anything. -

I disagree with someone thinkin guns is sexy. That is like freaky foreplay stuff maybe. :lolsign: But when I see a gun, I always fear it going off the wrong time and towards the wrong direction, even if it's in the right hands. I understand what KRS One was saying in his BBC interview and everything, but that is just to literal. He Just said all that to make you understand his point. To say that people who listen to 50 Cent aren't intelligent is very wrong. Mos Def's lasting and 50 Cent's lasting are two different things. 50 is going at it everyday becuz he looks at success as being in the spot he is in now. Mos Def, however is successful in a whole nother way. He's not on charts or anything. He may not even be a critically acclaimed artist in the general Hip Hop public's eyes. I seriously doubt anybody is happy on welfare. Some people are on welfare becuz they just can't manage. I figured you of all people would know better than that man. It doesnt make sense to me that people that give up or cant finish school look up to 50, becuz according to his story he tells all the time, he didnt give up. Watch what you generalize. -

I totally disagree with every bit of those statements you just said Ted. -
I would choose Theft. (for money reasons, because someone owes me money right now, and I really just want my money back) It's principalities in this. Do you think the rules to the forum have been broken with these "Hat of Forbidden Questions"?

Bow Wow Claiming he's more "Real" than Will!?
mfuqua23 replied to Vipa's topic in Jazzy Jeff & Fresh Prince
Looks like somebody needs to be reminded that they are never too old for a good ol fashioned butt whooping. And if Will would make a diss song to Bow Wow, call it "Switch (The Whoop Ya Ass Version)". :lolsign: "Go out and get a Switch... Turn over and I'm a hit it Oh, ah ah ow!" -
bigted, fan4ever, willjadafan, AJ, Will is Ill, cataboy3, Snouf, kbfprince, J-o-e, Angel Amore, Schnazz, fresh-ta-def, Wild Child (who we like never see anymore), and I guess Hero1 and Da Brakes. Who do you think on this board is most likely to pull a one night stand if all of us JJFP fans met, and then when we got back on the board, had arguements between each other?

"I don’t know what happened I geuss I just snapped" "That was back then before we both started snappin’" - It's nothing seriously wrong with this, but it probably helps if U use the same word to end a line, they shouldn't be so far apart. If possible, try to find another fitting word to describe what you both did. Same idea with the "rapping/rapped" "I still remember the first day we met with your blink"- what is blink? I'm not too familar if that's a slang term. "Had a beautiful voice still don’t know why she was a singer" - this is an example of what I'm about to get at. Most of this song is str8 to the girl. You should make it that entirely. Sometimes, you do what to speak out to your audience about the situation, but in a song like this, I really think it'd be best if you didn't do that. It just pulls the song together better. Other than the points I made, it was fine.

It was either Bow Wow or Lil Romeo probably.

Now I understand his point or whatever. And I'm sure we've all known or been those share of people that criticize what one does not know when they really should or whatever. But how come is that for people/kids that like Rock, Reggae, Country or whatever that is out nowadays, nobody criticizes them for not knowing their history?

Phonte of Little Brother giving u the truth
mfuqua23 replied to Frenetic's topic in Caught in the Middle
I dare anybody to say that what he said in any part of that interview was wrong. It's like music and movies are like the same thing. Have you ever seen a movie where selling crack was a good thing? Nope. Even Nino Brown (New Jack City) got his. (and there are plenty more various examples) I look at this interview as a discussion piece. Not as an fighting argument. -
Producer/composer QUINCY JONES has blasted modern rappers for turning their backs on their jazz and blues heritage. The jazz and R+B legend fears he could ask 100 hip-hop stars about their musical roots in New Orleans and other southern US cities, and most of them wouldn't know what he was talking about. Jones, 72, says, "These guys really think they can continue this wonderful life and not know anything about (Mississippi) delta blues music. Jazz and blues are the two most powerful types of music we've ever had. "You cannot afford to not know this music. Americans, period, do not know anything about that music, especially black kids, not a clue. "I bet most rappers you ask wouldn't know who DUKE ELLINGTON or CHARLIE PARKER is."

Biggie's mom criticises Diddy and Lil' Kim
mfuqua23 replied to bigted's topic in Caught in the Middle
Everything she said makes a lot of sense to me. It's nice to hear the truth about artists, with likes of 50 Cent, Diddy, Shyne, etc. and then to see guys like Mos Def, Talib Kweli and Hieroglyphics, being only what they can be, and being only a part of what they want to be. -
Didn't he rap over that himself, and not do it justice? What exactly is the prefence of this show? I missed it.
