December 5, 2004-- British actor Colin Salmon wants to be the first Black James Bond and put a hip-hop swagger to the character that has always been played by Caucasian actors. While the role has never been made available to an actor of color, Salmon wants to be the favored candidate should the opportunity arise. The 42-year-old actor has appeared in principal roles in movies like " Prime Suspect" and "Resident Evil."
Salmon feels that the well-known spy fits well with the culture associated with most hip-hop and rap music. The Brit told This Is London website, "Cut to 2004 - what culture has that James Bond alter-ego? A misogynistic, fast car driving, womanizing thing. It is hip hop."
Salmon might get his wish if the last James Bond has his way. Pierce Brosnan, who played Bond since 1999, has given Salmon the thumbs up.
"The reason Pierce says that is because he has seen my screen tests and he knows I would eat it up," Salmon said. Salmon has played Bond during pre-production in the last three Bond films.
Salmon's ambitions are not without competition.
Sean "P.Diddy" Combs has also expressed interest in becoming the first Black James Bond.
"The world is ready for a black James Bond," he said earlier this year.
Combs even designated Angelina Jolie as his Bond Girl, if the role becomes his.
"We would make a hot, sexy couple," the mogul stated in published reports.
Since Brosnan left 007 producers haven't decided on who will replace the veteran actor.
