I left a reminder for it in the TV thread, I thought folks would catch it if they could, there's lots of appearances with dates and times there so you guys may wanna check it out if you haven't. His THS airs again later today. It was pretty interesting even though like fuQ said, we all pretty much know the story there was commentary from: -a couple of his old teachers and a childhood friend -Ready Rock C -Kel Spencer -James Avery, Joseph Marcell, Tatyana Ali, Daphne Maxwell Reid (from FPOBA) -some movie critic, and reporter in Philly -video footage/commentary from older interviews: Janet Hubert-Whitten, Will's mom, Jada, Quincy Jones...among others *oh and to answer you guys' question, I think Jada tried out for the part of Jackie that went to Tyra banks b/c it was earlier in the series before Lisa/Nia came on, around the time she got "A Different world" like 1991/1992, plus the reason they told her she didn't get the job is b/c she was too short, and Nia's not really that much bigger than Jada, and she was on towards the end of the show.

looks like the first "Hancock" ad will air around Superbowl time... ----------------------------------------- FLICKS KICK-OFF MOVIE STUDIOS TO RETURN FOR SUPER BOWL SPOTS By HOLLY M. SANDERS December 5, 2007 -- After mostly sitting out the last Super Bowl, the major movie studios are back in full force for the big game. Five studios have bought pricey ad spots during the Feb. 3 game as they gear up for an ultra competitive summer blockbuster season, according to sources. Although execs are being tight-lipped, Paramount Pictures, Universal Pictures and Sony Pictures are back in the game, which means the other Hollywood heavyweights - Warner Bros. Studios, Walt Disney Studios and 20th Century Fox Studios - can't be far behind. A spokesman for Paramount confirmed the studio will run a trailer for "Iron Man," based on the Marvel comic book character. Sony has also bought time for the Will Smith superhero flick, "Hancock" and "You Don't Mess with the Zohan," a comedy starring Adam Sandler, according to sources. A spokeswomen for Universal said the studio has bought spots during the game, but declined to disclose the specific films. The heavy slate of motion picture advertising is in stark contrast to last winter's game, when the studios scaled back spending after years of being among the biggest buyers of Super Bowl ad time. It also helps explain why Fox, which will broadcast the 2008 game, is nearly sold out of ad inventory months in advance. Rates for 30-second spots hit $2.7 million this year, up from $2.6 million last year. During the last Super Bowl, the studios were skewed toward big-budget sequels with built-in audiences, including "Spider-Man 3," "Pirates of the Caribbean: At the World's End" and "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix." "You had franchises that had identity and awareness and didn't need an ad in the Super Bowl to get attention," said one studio marketing executive. So the studios ran trailers for a handful of smaller films, including Lions Gate's "Pride," MGM's "Hannibal Rising" and Disney's "Wild Hogs" and "Meet the Robinsons." Overall, motion picture advertising was the fourth biggest category, behind beer, automotive and beverages, according Nielsen. Compare that to the 2006 Super Bowl, when the studios turned out in full force with nine movies, for a total of 4.5 minutes. For the 2008 summer season, the latest installments of "Batman" and "Indiana Jones" have loyal followings, but there are plenty of other contenders, such as "Get Smart" and "Speed Racer," that don't boast the same level of awareness. While the Super Bowl was sold out before the Hollywood writer's strike hit in early November, the studios that bought time are probably happy with their decision, especially since the game will likely star an audience-grabbing, undefeated team in the New England Patriots. Industry insiders said a large-scale event like the Super Bowl will help make up for the lack of late-night shows that were immediately forced into reruns by the strike. https://www.nypost.com/seven/12052007/busin..._off_419684.htm

Will Smith: My Daughter Wants to Be Paris Hilton
MissAshley replied to Ale's topic in Will Smith Movies
and if I were Jada it'd be grounds for divorce, lol. seriously of all the people to compare your kid to? I wonder if he ever gets tired of people taking stuff he says outta context though. -
yeah I read the one at "aintitcool" and felt like my IQ had dropped, it didn't really tell you much. In passing, I read on somebody's blog that Will's performance was really good, "compelling" I think it said, but that "review" didn't tell you much either.

folks aren't gonna be happy to hear this...... :sipread: TAKE FIVE Will Smith as the last human Inquirer Last updated 09:19pm (Mla time) 11/26/2007 MANILA, Philippines—The last man on Earth…is not alone. In the Warner Bros. action adventure “I Am Legend,” the big-screen adaptation of the legendary novel by Richard Matheson, Robert Neville (Will Smith) is a brilliant scientist, but he could not contain an unstoppable, incurable, man-made virus. Somehow immune, Neville is now the last human survivor in what is left of New York City—and maybe the world. For three years, Neville has faithfully sent out daily radio messages: “My name is Robert Neville. I am a survivor living in New York City. If there is anybody out there… Please.” But he is not alone. Mutant victims of the plague—The Infected—lurk in the shadows… watching Neville’s every move… waiting for him to make a fatal mistake. Directed by Francis Lawrence, “I Am Legend” is written for the screen by Mark Protosevich and Akiva Goldsman, based on the screenplay by John William and Joyce H. Corrington. Following are excerpts from an interview with the Hollywood A-list actor: What attracted you to this film? It’s the last thing you expect. I read the script almost 10 years ago and I just love how bold it is… the last man on earth. How do you feel about the character; is there anything of you in him? It was some of the opposite of who I am in the character that intrigued me—it’s rare that I feel alone and actually am alone. As an actor, how difficult is it to prepare for a role where you don’t have other actors with whom to interact? Fortunately, I’ve made special effects movies a lot, so there’s a whole lot of green screen stuff where you’re actually acting by yourself or with a green tennis ball that’s supposed to be a monster. So, my experience has made me feel comfortable in those situations. Do you consider this film to be sci-fi, or sci-fact – how real do you think is this situation? The types of movies I’m trying to make now are non-genre. I’m trying to fit the small “art movies” into the middle of the big, stellar, blockbuster casing. I think that with “I Am Legend,” the design is non-genre. The movie is designed around the exploration of the trauma the person experiences. We’re trying not to allow the genre to dictate what the scene can be. Have you always liked to do sci-fi films in the past? I have always loved sci-fi. This movie is more of a throwback to the days before lots of big special effects came in, when science fiction was all story. In this film all the concentration is on character and story. The special effects are this added bonus that just keeps punching you in the face when you least expect it. How physical a role is this for you? There’s not a lot of hand-to-hand combat with the Dark Seekers (the mutants of the film); it’s mostly from a distance, and because of the nature of their strength and speed, you can’t really fight them up close. It was mostly running and shooting. I believe your daughter is in the film? Yes. Well, my last film, “The Pursuit of Happyness,” was with my son, Jaden, and my daughter just wasn’t having that. She wasn’t happy about that at all. There was a role for a daughter in this script, in the pre-apocalyptic section where I’m trying to get my family out of New York, so there are a couple of scenes with my daughter, Willow, who is 6 years old. How different was the experience compared with doing the music video? It’s a hugely different experience. There’s no dialogue in music videos, which makes it a completely different skill set. How much time do you devote to music now? No music at all. Specifically, with “I Am Legend,” I think that I’m hitting a stride right now and as an actor I’m growing exponentially with every project. How about writing and producing? There’s a filmmaking process that me and Akiva Goldsman have been developing. We’re looking at it in terms of a team sport and not in the old school. You put together a team and you go out as a team and try to win. “I Am Legend” opens soon in local theaters. http://showbizandstyle.inquirer.net/entert...ticle_id=103223

it's still early, i'm sure there'll be more dates/appearances to post. negotiations about the writer's strike started today as well.
-
I heard they're supposed to have some type of meeting about the strike soon, so hopefully they'll come to some type of agreement in time for the legend tour, if not, I imagine he may do more morning shows to make up for it, guess we'll see.

what kills me about the whole recycling of that article is that all the gossipers just so happen to omit the part where he says he's raising his kids to believe in love, life and relationships through the Bible and Jesus Christ...but yeah that's rumors for ya. he's gonna have to do damage control for this one though, b/c i'm sure somebody's gonna ask him about it during IAL promos.

The beginning of the year was particularly cold for Will Smith. First, there was the frigid business of taking over the Brooklyn Bridge in January to shoot his upcoming sci-fi opus I Am Legend. Then there was the experience of losing the Best Actor Oscar (he was nominated for The Pursuit of Happyness — his first blockbuster drama, at nearly $163 million) to The Last King of Scotland's Forest Whitaker. Of course, Smith suspected he wasn't going home with hardware. ''If you want to win an Oscar, you need to play a historical figure, or someone who's mentally ill,'' he says with a laugh. ''So the moment I saw that Forest was playing both, I knew I had no chance.'' Still, an Oscar nomination (his second, after 2001's Ali) isn't a bad way to start the year. With Legend set to open huge next month, a strong finish seems in store, too. All things considered, this Smith-bracketed 2007 was a showcase for the star's Hanksian range and popularity. Next year might be another big one: Hancock — a superhero comedy and another blend of what he calls ''popcorn and prestige'' — is slated for next summer. ''To me, there's absolutely no award better than people going to your movie in record levels,'' he says. ''People who spend their hard-earned money to go see your movie — I'll take that any day of the week.'' —Jeff Jensen http://www.ew.com/

lmao, the gossipers are having a field day with this interview.

just caught this on vh1 (it's on now) it's more like a video thing, nothing live. Eve is hosting, she brings up a category, various artists and industry people comment on the nominees, then they announce the winner, and that's it. Or they accept via video, so it's basically like I said, doesn't seem like we missed anything...Will's category hasn't come up yet so idk if he accepts his award or not.
-
it wasn't really like it was in the past, just some kinda special on vh1 soul, and he didn't attend. idk if he did a taped acceptance or anything though.
