The award is named in honor of David Angell, a renowned and respected Emmy winning writer/producer for such television series as Cheers, Wings and Frasier, who perished with his wife Lynn in the September 11 attacks. David and Lynn were devoted to their faith and spirituality, and worked tirelessly for numerous charities. The award was established by ASA, with the permission of the Angell family, to honor an individual in the entertainment industry who contributes to the community at large through their generous donation of time, expertise or other support to improve the human condition. “Will and Jada exemplify the principles of the David Angell Humanitarian Award through their support of projects focusing on urban and inner city youth, family wellbeing, violence prevention and education,” said John E. Johnson, Executive Director of the American Screenwriters Association. “Their philosophy of leading a positive lifestyle and sincere interest in helping people everywhere is inspirational.” Will and Jada Pinkett Smith’s extraordinary work is supported through the Will and Jada Smith Family Foundation. 5. Sorry but I have no sympathy for bobby whatsoever, he's been having child support issues for years, and he obviously knows what'll happen if he doesn't pay. I think any able bodied man who has kids and doesn't take care of them is lame as hell, time to stop living off whitney if she's really let him go. He should have figured something out a long time ago, especially if he knows he's dealing with a "baby momma" who coming for hers every month (regardless of whether or not he has it) I heard whitney had a prenup, smart girl.
  6. Run has released a statement to AP & MTV Rev. Run's daughter dies at birth RIDGEWOOD, N.J. (AP) -- A daughter born to rap pioneer Joseph "Rev. Run" Simmons and his wife, Justine, died shortly after delivery last week, an MTV spokesman said Wednesday. Simmons issued a statement through the network, which airs his reality show, "Run's House," saying his wife "is doing fine." He thanked his supporters for their prayers and condolences. "On Sept. 26, 2006, Victoria Anne Simmons for some unknown reason chose to come early and unfortunately did not survive," his statement said. "We must accept whatever is there and once you accept unconditionally, then everything is beautiful. Every pain has a purifying effect. So whatever comes your way, just be thankful. We see life in death and believe in the celebration of life in death." The baby was delivered at Valley Hospital in Ridgewood, according to MTV spokesman Graham James. Simmons, brother of hip-hop mogul Russell Simmons, has five children. He was a founding member of pioneering rap group Run-DMC. source: Associated Press i can't even imagine what they're feeling right now, i just hope they have the strength to help one another through it, i know they wanted a little girl very much

  8. Exclusive: Horrifying Death of Reality Star's Baby Posted Sep 26th 2006 9:40PM by TMZ Staff Filed under: TV, Music A rapper's wife gave birth Thursday, but the scene quickly turned to tragedy after their newborn girl was pronounced dead. Rev Run, a.k.a. Joseph Simmons, shocked fans last year when he announced that his wife Justine was pregnant on his MTV reality show "Rev's House." Justine's pregnancy was the cliffhanger on the MTV show last season. It generated intense interest among viewers who have been anxiously following the pregnancy and awaiting the birth. Simmons, a member of the legendary rap group Run DMC, was at Valley Hospital in Ridgewood New Jersey Tuesday for the birth of his child. Doctors delivered the baby via c-section, revealing a cruel twist of fate -- the baby girl was born with organs outside the body. The newborn died a short time later. TMZ has learned that MTV cameras were inside the hospital at the time of the birth, though we do not know if they were in the delivery room. *I don't know how true this is but I'm hoping the site has the good sense not to make up something like this, it's terrible and I know they were all so excited about the new baby, they're def. in my thoughts and prayers...it's just awful source: http://www.tmz.com/2006/09/26/exclusive-ho...ity-stars-baby/
  9. nobody said you have to believe everything you read, this thread is about Will and I Am Legend, so we post stuff we find out about Will and I Am Legend,(whether it's true or not time will tell) same as we did with Will and Pursuit of Happyness...I imagine no one really knows what's going on with this film except the people working on it so there's no sense in taking any of it too seriously, there's nothing anybody can do but wait and find out.
  10. Happy Birthday to Big Will, who's just gettin' better with age! damn near 40 huh? lol looks good!
  11. something I just found apparently they've made more changes..... a different synopsis of the film? http://www.aintitcool.com/node/30152
  12. i've never managed to get my hands on any of the Will calendars either, but the few i've seen (from past years) seem to have pics i've been able to get HQ anyway so I figure i wasn't missing out on much...it'd been nice if they showed a couple inside shots with that one though just to have a look see
  13. the more I hear about this film the more confused and (sadly) less interested I become...i hope they get it together :worried: CASTING IS LEGEND 09.19.06 By Devin Faraci Contributing sources: IESB.net, Blackfilm.com http://www.chud.com/graphics3/iamlegend.jpgGabrielle Union, is you is or is you ain’t the lead female in I Am Legend? IESB.net says you are, but blackfilm.com says nay – that the role of Anna, a human survivor Will Smith’s character stumbles upon in a post-apocalyptic vampire world, will actually be played by Alice Braga, niece of Sonia Braga and star of Lower City. I don’t really have any horses in this particular race either way, so I’m just going to step back and let internet misinformation sort itself out. Blackfilm also claims that Salli Richardson, currently appearing on SciFi Channel’s Eureka, has been cast as Will Smith’s wife, Ginny, who I am pretty sure is a bad guy. Meanwhile it’s been confirmed that Johnny Depp has nothing to do with the film, and probably never did. There is one other sort of major character, Ethan, but apparently that role has been cast with an unknown. source via google: http://www.chud.com/index.php?type=news&id=7659 this is what blackfilm says: AM LEGEND casting news Depp out, Richardson and Braga in. By: Wilson Morales September 19, 2006 While some time has gone by since we reported that Johnny Depp had been cast in the long-awaited film, I Am Legend, with the news that Johnny had officially signed to do Tim Burton's Sweeney Todd, suffice to say we knew that he might not be in "Legend" afterall, but couldn't confirm it. It now appears that Depp is OUT. Contrary to the rumor regarding Gabrielle Union being cast in the film, she is NOT. Today we can DEFINITELY say that actress Salli Richardson has been cast as Ginny, the wife of Will Smith's character, and that Alice Braga ( niece of legendary Brazilian actress Sonia Braga) has been cast as Anna. I Am Legend is about a terrible plague that has decimated the world, and those who were unfortunate enough to survive have been transformed into blood-thirsty creatures of the night. Except, that is, for Robert Neville. He alone appears to be immune to this disease, but the grim irony is that now he is the outsider. Will Smith will be playing the role of Robert Neville. Braga was recently in "Lower City", which won the Best Screenplay award at the Los Angeles Latino Film Festival and played in select theater nationwide. Richardson was last seen on the big screen in "Anacondas: The Hunt for the Black Orchid". she is cast as Department of Defens agent Allison Blake in the television series Eureka, which airs on the Sci Fi network. source: http://www.blackfilm.com/20060915/features...egendnews.shtml
  14. Gabrielle Union in I Am Legend Source: IESB.net September 19, 2006 Gabrielle Union is set to reteam with her former Bad Boys II co-star Will Smith in I Am Legend, directed by Francis Lawrence (Constantine) and based on the Richard Matheson book. IESB.net says Union will play Anna, a lone female survivor that Smith's character, Robert Neville, will come across. The site adds that the only other character of any substance in the film is Ethan. This role has also been cast with a relatively unknown actor. Warner Bros. Pictures will release I Am Legend on November 21, 2007. source via google: http://comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=16559
  15. HAPPY BIRTHDAY MRS. SMITH! can't believe she's 35, I just watching her on Different World a few days ago. weird. this means in seven days Will's gonna be two steps from 40!
  16. I heard about this like right after it happened, I don't see what the big deal is, he could've been doing worse things, I'd love to hear "Katrina Clap" though, I've always thought Mos was cool, I've heard a bit of his 'spoken' stuff on Def Poetry... it's tight

  20. yet another CG article to add to the masses :wiggle: Chris Gardner: Through it All, Family and Happiness is What Matters by Nakia Herring Baltimore Times Originally posted 9/1/2006 The poem “Mother to Son” by Langston Hughes has special meaning to Chris Gardner. It is a reminder of the journey that he and his mother have made through the ups and downs in their lives. With bouts of domestic, physical and mental abuse from his step- father, being homelessness and a single father, and not knowing where your next meal will come from, Gardner has finally achieved the life that movies are made of. On December 15, 2006, Columbia Pictures will release “The Pursuit of Happyness,” which is also the title of his autobiography published by Amistad/HarperCollins. The Pursuit of Happyness is the journey of one man, who experienced a demanding childhood, becoming a homeless single father, all the while holding on to his dream of making it big in this world. Today, Gardner is president and CEO of Gardner Rich & Company, a multi-million-dollar brokerage firm. “I have gotten so many calls, letters and emails that validate something I have said from the very beginning - this is the story of my life, but it really is the book of us. I mean that all of us who had every opportunity to become what was right in front of us and chose to go the other way,” explained Gardner. Gardner went on to explain that the strength he has and the person he became was all due to his mother. He called it spiritual genetics. “You will hear about it everywhere I go. I am the person I am because of the spiritual genetics I received from my mother. “I could not be in the position to now be accepting applause, awards and accolades and not acknowledge my mother. That would be disrespectful and I am not going to do that,” he said. Gardner says the movie will focus on one year of his life. “One very tough, challenging, dark year of my life - the year that made me who I am. The book talks about where did this man get this stuff from that allowed him to get through. It is a love story between a father and a son and how we made it,” he says. Throughout the book, Gardner constantly shows the real meaning of being a father. “Having never had a father, I made a promise as a little boy that I would never say to my kids 'I ain't your daddy.' The best way to do that was to always be there. To have that opportunity to be a father fulfilled something in me,” he said. Gardner would only see his real father twice, once when he was 28 years old at their initial meeting and when he was dead. As Gardner relived those days of pain and abuse for his book, he says that he now looks at things differently and is thankful for his stepfather. “He helped me so much by showing me what not to be. He helped me by showing me I don't want to be an alcoholic, I don't want to be a wife beater, and I don't want to be illiterate. I made a conscious choice and commitment to go the other way,” says Gardner. One very important point that he wants young people to take from his book is his love for reading and books, which he also learned from his mother. “My mother told me the most dangerous place in the world is the public library, but only if you know how to read. If you know how to read, you can go in there and figure out anything. All these young people out here want to be down and bad, well I say go get a library card and go off in there. Go get you some knowledge,” he said. The Pursuit of Happyness took about two years to write and Gardner says he would never do it again. “If someone asked me to do another one of these again, I would say no,” he stated. The writing process took place in Harlem, New York with help from Quincy Troupe (author of Miles and Me: A Memoir of Miles Davis). Gardner went on to explain that after being with Quincy all day, he would have to walk from Harlem to Mid-town to release the stress of reliving his life. “I could not be around no people, don't talk to me, don't ask me nothing, just leave me alone. Once I got to Mid-town, I would have to go to the gym. That should tell you something,” he laughed. In all, he is absolutely ecstatic about how the book and movie turned out. “To my knowledge, I had more to do with the whole process of the movie than had been allowed to anyone who ever sold the rights to their life story. I was on the set everyday for 17 weeks. The reason I was allowed that kind of access was that I developed a relationship with Will Smith (who plays Gardner in the movie version) that will last forever,” he said. Will Smith's real life son Jaden play's Chris Jr. (Gardner's son) in the movie. “That little boy has more talent in his big toe than Will has in his whole body. After seeing his performance, people will see the Smith's as the new first family of film,” says Gardner. “It was such a joy to see them [the Smith's] in their first and most important role, mom and dad. Before the fame and money, they are mom and day - everyday.” When it comes to his own children, Chris Jr. and his daughter Jacintha, Gardner is happy to report that they are doing absolutely fabulous. “That is my gift to the world. I broke the cycle of men not there for their children. I am going to have a direct influence on generations of my offspring that I will never meet. I raised a young man who is responsible and I raised a young woman who understands how a man is supposed to treat her,” says Gardner. Even though life is good now, it has not been without its bumps. Gardner says some family members changed once he became successful and saw him as their own personal bank account, plus, his life story has been compared to the now legendary James Frey, the author of A Million Little Pieces, which turned out to be pure fiction. “Many reporters have asked me about him. I don't know James Frey and don't care about him. I put my life down like it happened,” says Gardner. As he travels in support of The Pursuit of Happyness, he says, “Everywhere I go, I will be lifting my mother up and if folks don't understand, then that is on them. And bottom line; don't let anyone tell you you can't do anything. If you want something, go get it.” The Pursuit of Happyness is in bookstores now. Press credentials for the ceremony can be obtained at http://www.turner.com/press/2006_BMA_Credential_Form.doc. Host Tyler Perry, whose screenplay for Diary of a Mad Black Woman was honored last year in the Outstanding Achievement in Writing category, emerged from the poverty-stricken streets of New Orleans in a remarkable rags-to- riches story. His younger days were troubled, and he suffered from endless abuse from his father. In 1992, inspired by Oprah to write it down, he wrote a series of letters to himself in an effort to find a catharsis for his own childhood pain. Those same letters would eventually evolve to become Perry's first stage production, the hit musical I Know I've Been Changed. Perry followed that production with Woman, Thou Art Loosed and Behind Closed Doors, both collaborations with Bishop T.D. Jakes. In 2000, he wrote I Can Do Bad All By Myself and introduced 68-year-old Mable "Madea" Simmons, making her a household name across the country. He reprised the character in Diary of a Mad Black Woman, Family Reunion and Class Reunion. In 2004, he wrote and produced Madea's Christmas Play for Trinity Broadcasting Network, netting huge ratings. Perry defied the odds in 2005 when the film version of Diary of a Mad Black Woman opened as the #1 movie in America. He followed it in 2006 with equally successful film Madea's Family Reunion, as well as the stage production Madea Goes to Jail, which sold out for every performance. Perry continued to set new heights for African-Americans in the entertainment industry this year with the debut of his syndicated comedy series House of Payne, which has scored huge ratings during its ground- breaking test run this summer. Perry has appeared twice on The Oprah Winfrey Show, where he talked about his childhood and the power of forgiveness. He was nominated for the prestigious Helen Hayes Award for Excellence in Theatre and for MTV's Breakthrough Man of the Year. He was also named 2004 Black Business Professionals Entrepreneur of the Year. Jeff Friday, creator of the BLACK MOVIE AWARDS and the American Black Film Festival, has made a name in the film industry by providing opportunities for independent Black filmmakers to showcase their work to an ever-broadening audience through the American Black Film Festival (ABFF). Since its inception, the ABFF has explored, rewarded and redefined artistic excellence in international Black cinema. It has grown to be recognized as the #1 film market for Black and urban content. In addition to its film showcases, the ABFF is committed to nurturing artists in a variety of disciplines and offers educational workshops and seminars for actors, filmmakers and writers throughout the week. The ABFF, founded in 1997, is a property of Film Life, Inc., a New York- based marketing, media and production company. Its mission is to spearhead the global distribution of quality Black films and be the leading American brand producing Black movies and related entertainment content. Back for the second year, Oscar® nominee Suzanne de Passe will again serve as Executive Producer and Head Writer. Her long list of award-winning, high-profile shows and specials includes the Emmy®-winning Motown 25: Yesterday, Today, Forever and Motown Returns to the Apollo. Additionally, she executive-produced The Essence Awards in 2002 and 2003, as well as the annual NAACP Image Awards over a three-year period, concluding in 2003. She has also executive-produced such memorable television miniseries as Lonesome Dove, The Jacksons: An American Dream, Buffalo Girls, Small Sacrifices and The Temptations. Her Academy Award® nomination came for co-writing the screenplay for Lady Sings the Blues. Turner Network Television (TNT), a division of Turner Broadcasting System, Inc., is television's destination for drama and one of cable's top-rated networks. It offers original movies and series, including the blockbuster detective series The Closer, starring Emmy®, Golden Globe® and Screen Actors Guild Awards® nominee Kyra Sedgwick; Saved, a new character-driven drama starring Tom Everett Scott; and this summer's four-week television event Nightmares & Dreamscapes: From the Stories of Stephen King. 22. I'm not sure Max, I was wondering about that myself, we'll probably hear more about it closer to that time, I'll def. post any info I find.
  23. the newest image from the film...this pic was actually in the current issue of Entertainment Weekly, I was gonna post it up later, but this is much better quality than the scan. Also their downloadable versions of the trailer are super crisp and clear at this site...and there's supposed to be a feature on "Pursuit" in the December issue of Premiere magazine (or so I read in the current issue) which most likely won't be out until November source: http://filmforce.ign.com/objects/845/845871.html
