Broken Word so much to say, yet the words won't emerge I must piece them together, and help them converge find common ground so I can get back to "self" for being without words is affecting my health forget doubting thomas, because now i'm doubting me trapped within thoughts, can't find my way free a million questions in my mind... when did I break the ties that bind? what if my rhymes weren't as strong? my verse wasn't quite as long? it's like an ongoing cycle of before and after but with every bit of pain, comes some form of love and laughter i put pen to paper, and let spill my heart and the final piece of the puzzle is like a brilliant work of art a materpiece in the mold of DaVinci or Van Gogh I put out good karma, still I reap what I sow this is just a phase, and eventually it passes so I can continue on my quest to captivate the masses if I were a rapper...yeah well... we've been there before so I hope and I pray that there's much more in store -ash

Attention News Editors/See CNW Photo Network and Archive: Time Magazine selects the 100 most influential people in the world Canadians who make this year's list include: Steve Nash, Stewart Butterfield and Caterina Fake, and Jeffrey Skoll TORONTO, April 30 /CNW/ - In its May 8, 2006, edition (on newsstands Monday, May 1), TIME Magazine unveils its annual list of the most influential people in the world over the past year - the TIME 100. The list profiles the lives and ideas of the world's most influential people and is split into five categories: Leaders & Revolutionaries, Builders & Titans, Artists & Entertainers, Heroes & Icons, and Scientists & Thinkers. "The TIME 100 list is about people like Steve Nash," says TIME Canada editor Adi Ignatius, who top-edited the special package. "He is not only the best player in basketball- recent reports suggest he's about to win his second consecutive NBA MVP award- but his selfless style of play is inspiring kids that you don't have to be a selfish scorer to win, and to be appreciated." Will's in the Artist&Entertainers Section, the format's too weird to copy and paste, so check the link :2thumbs: http://www.newswire.ca/en/releases/archive...6/30/c2112.html
  6. yeah Kimberly's Oscar bound, ironically she played the youngest character in the movie and I believe she's the oldest of them all lol...I LOVE Set It Off, one of my fave Jada movies, she was great in it as well as the other three ladies. You can tell it's one of those "hood classics" just by people's response to the girls @ the 2005 BET Awards...I agree Cookie it had a great balance of everything kept me laughing and crying..it's def. relateable on different levels
  7. I remember watching "RU the Girl" too, it was just so weird seeing the girls w/o Left Eye, esp. when they did that last performance, I was on another site and there was a tribute to her and I started thinking about all their old songs and stuff, and I hate that their music is going unheard. This a thread I'm glad has been bumped up, so thnx AJ. I think it's good to remember one of the members of my fave girl group of all time, I hope Left Eye continues to Rest In Peace...now I'm about to go pull out my TLC albums :1-smile:
  8. well you never know cuz there's a different person in charge now, and Will and Jada could have other things to do, I know they've both got films lined up to shoot and she's supposed to be going back on tour too, but i'll post as soon as I see anything. Personally i'd love to see them host again too, they were the only reason I watched in the first place lol and they did a great job
  9. actually they usually have the same hosts twice, first it was Steve Harvey and Cedric the Entertainer for two years, then Monique
  10. Well the awards are usually at the end of June so you probably won't here anything til at least next month... But it was the highest rated BET show ever, I wonder who they'll pick if they don't host though
  11. or go here http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3032633/ and scroll down to 'Will Smith goes behind the camera'

  13. Ok guys here's a quick rundown Will was interviewed on the set of "All Of Us" by Maria Menunos(sp?) and he was saying Barry Sonnenfield taught him how to 'look' like a good director by posing a certain way in still pictures and stuff (pointing his finger, making a frame with his hands, looking into the camera) Alfonso (Carlton from FPOBA) was also onset he's been producing/directing a lot of episodes lately... Alfonso: "I'm here to make sure that the brilliance is there." Maria: "You guys are still working together that's great." Will: "Yeah, listen I carried this bum through a lot of years on the Fresh Prince." couple shots of Jaden and Willow onset, Willow hanging with daddy while brother Jaden's in the episode, Will talks about the content of this particular episode Will: "It is something as a Black parent in America, something that you will have to deal with eventually." Maria: "What do you tell your kids?" Will: "I tell my kids the truth. I don't pull any punches with my kids, if they ask me a question I tell them the answer, or what my perspective is." that was pretty much it guys....LOVE this man, such a cool daddy too :2thumbs:

  17. Will Smith: I want to be soldier for peace Hollywood star visits Yitzhak Rabin Center, says former PM's story inspired him Ynetnews Man in black in holy land: Hollywood actor Will Smith arrived in Israel for a speedy 48-hours visit accompanied by his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith. The visit was organized by the Israeli Consul General in Los Angeles, Ehud Danoch. Upon his arrival in the country, Smith requested a meeting with former Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin's daughter, Dalia Rabin, after hearing so much about her father. The couple visited the Yitzhak Rabin Center in Tel Aviv, and watched a movie depicting Rabin's life and leadership. Both Jada and Will were moved by the film, which even caused Jada to shed a tear. At the end of the screening, Smith stated: "I am inspired beyond my ability to articulate… and now I know what and who I want to be… a soldier for peace." Dalia Rabin granted the couple two copies of the Noble Peace Prize medal that was awarded to Yitzhak Rabin. Smith, on his part, expressed interest in attending the event to mark the opening of the Center's museum later this year, and pledged to make a donation to the institute. After the visit to the Rabin Center, the couple dined at the Rafael restaurant in Tel Aviv with American Ambassador to Israel Richard Jones and his wife, Consul General Danoch, Dalia Rabin, Knesset Member Silvan Shalom and his wife, media advisor Moshe Debby, who was behind the gathering, and Yitzha Rabin's granddaughter Noa Ben Artzi with her spouse. During the meal, which lasted about four hours, Smith said that he and his wife were not afraid to come to Israel and noted terror exists all around the world. 19. well at least you may get to see it sooner or later Julie,I may not get to see it at all: N-word drops 'All of Us' out of prime time April 23, 2006 BY DAREL JEVENS Staff Reporter A UPN sitcom episode about a child's use of the n-word has been kicked out of its Monday primetime slot in Chicago -- and might not air here at all. WPWR-Channel 50 said Friday that "All of Us" won't air as usual at 7:30 p.m. because station executives fear the episode will violate community standards. On the show, a grade-school student blurts out the n-word in the midst of his birthday party, prompting a discussion among children and parents about the word's impact and historical significance. Pat Mullen, vice president and general manager of Fox-owned WPWR, said he became concerned about the episode's content and wanted to see it before airing it, but UPN refused to provide an advance copy. So the station plans to preempt "All of Us," and a WPWR executive will watch the show as UPN feeds it to affiliates at 7:30. If it passes muster, it will air at 11:30 p.m. Monday. "If it isn't appropriate in our view, we won't run it" at all, Mullen said. Will Smith, wife directed episode In either case, the situation also will affect UPN's 7 p.m sitcom, "One on One," which on Monday will shift to 11 p.m. An episode of "The Tyra Banks Show" will fill the 7 to 8 p.m. hour on Channel 50. Rapper and film star Will Smith, who is an executive producer of "All of Us" along with his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, directed the episode. WPWR is in its final months as a UPN affiliate. This fall the network will dissolve and WPWR will get its prime-time shows from the new My Network TV. djevens@suntimes.com source via google: http://www.suntimes.com/output/news/cst-nws-upn23.html *I find this a bit ridiculous, if it was that bad I don't think it'd be airing anywhere
  20. another article about the episode: 'All of Us' shows grace, intelligence in dealing with N-word By JOANNE WEINTRAUB jweintraub@journalsentinel.com Posted: April 21, 2006 It's no wonder the phrase "very special episode" is mostly used these days, when it's used at all, as part of a punch line. Comedies that set out to preach and action dramas that deliver sober messages usually turn out to be more cringe-worthy than praiseworthy. UPN's family sitcom "All of Us," on the other hand, airs an episode this week that puts a graceful, original spin on a much-discussed subject. The half-hour - which also marks the directorial debut of Will Smith, who created the 2-year-old series with wife Jada Pinkett Smith - opens at the eighth birthday party of Bobby James (Khamani Griffin). Thanks to mom Neesee (LisaRaye McCoy), who never met a lily she couldn't gild, it's a gala worthy of a little prince, complete with an exotic menagerie that includes a llama, an ostrich and a camel that has to duck just to get through the door. The tony trappings make it all the more embarrassing for Neesee and dad Robert (Duane Martin, "Deliver Us from Eva") when Bobby, who's been ignoring the mini-zoo to play a card game with friends, is asked by one of the kids if he has any threes and triumphantly sings out, "Nope! Go fish . . . ," adding the N-word. The epithet is barely out of Bobby's mouth when Robert picks him up like a sack of potatoes and carries him out of the room. Family friend Dirk (Tony Rock), the joker in the pack, is delighted: "This is karma - a high-class party like this busted up (by) Bobby (dropping) the N-bomb on a little white kid!" But everyone else is mortified or angry, particularly an older friend, Randall (Keith David, "Barbershop"), who warns the Jameses not to allow their son to deploy however innocently, "the most consequential social insult in American history." And Bobby is innocent - so innocent that at first he believes he was banished to another room because his parents thought he was cheating at "Go Fish." "I thought it meant, like, 'friend' or 'homie,' " Bobby says of the word that caused all the fuss. A tough call Trying to explain to him why the adults were so upset, Neesee and Robert twist themselves nearly inside-out. Dealing with this powder keg of a word, Robert admits, is harder than "sex talk" or even "the God thing." Some familiar arguments are heard and some solemn declarations made. At one point, Martin has to deliver this mouthful: "The bottom line is, there will always be a part of this word that will be the most hateful, ugly thing you can ever think about black people, but if we (forbid it), we're just preserving the word - we're putting it on a pedestal, making it sacred." But before the episode is through, writer Royale Watkins - who says he wrote the episode after his own son raised the N-word question - abandons rhetoric for a genuinely touching, affectionately comic scene in which the Jameses and Dirk sit down to watch a "Roots" video. To paraphrase Jerry Seinfeld, there's hugging and learning, but there's also an honest acknowledgment that some dilemmas can't be resolved in 30 minutes. To underline that ambiguity, the episode ends with a sort of slide show, accompanied only by music, that's far more provocative than any dialogue could be. It features images of American consumer products from the early-to-mid-1900s - long-vanished brands of soap, shoe polish, playing cards, golf tees and licorice cigarettes - with names that included the racial epithet and crude racist cartoons to match. Following these shameful artifacts are images intended by their creators to be proud and defiant, album covers from the last few decades featuring variations on the same word as used by Richard Pryor, 2Pac, Jay-Z and the group N.W.A.. The last picture is of young actor Griffin's face, as fitting a symbol as any of a generation that will decide for itself how words may and may not be used. source via google: http://www.jsonline.com/story/index.aspx?id=417350 gonna be sure to watch sounds pretty interesting, there's also a preview clip @ http://www.upn.com
  21. something I thought was interesting since we've had the "N" word discussion here a few times: Will Smith speaks on directing sitcom Saturday, April 22 2006, 15:32 BST - by Daniel Kilkelly Will Smith has spoken about his decision to direct an episode of his sitcom All Of Us. The episode features an African-American character questioning the meaning of the 'N word', and Smith agreed to get involved because he felt that the subject matter should be handled delicately. "The revisionist perspective on the word is that we have taken the word and we have transformed it and we have turned it into a word, much like the gay community did with the word 'queer.'" he told WENN. "We flipped it and threw it in the face of the oppressor, but there's also those who would prefer that the word go the way of most words - it just dies and goes away. The show doesn't follow one side of the other - it's very interesting." source via google:http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/article/ds31956.html
