I really liked Soul Khan who has since hung it up. But that's OK since he's been putting out solid music since.

I know the new De La music (at least 2/3 De La) didn't get much love last time I posted it but they've got a new video. What can I say, i'm interested in concept albums. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OHmmYnw34hI&feature=plcp&context=C38f7a8bUDOEgsToPDskJ6MD3YbtIL67VuJDCg0Ki0 In case you missed it here is the concept behind the album: And here was the first song they released after the mixtape. http://soundcloud.co...s-plug-1-plug-2

All I can say is it's powerfully solid!

Case in point: I'm listening to Jurassic 5 Whats Golden and its suggests I listen to Nicki Minaj Stupid Hoe. Yeah... No... And they say Payola doesn't exist anymore. Just needed to rant a bit. To end this thread on a more positive note. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CNan6L1c1aA

DJ JAZZY JEFF FEAT. SENOR KAOS - PETER PIPER
Big Ben replied to JumpinJack AJ's topic in Jazzy Jeff & Fresh Prince
Very nice. Anyone heard anything about the Heavy D tribute he was going to do? -
http://www.bbc.co.uk/newsbeat/16576038 "Public Enemy will reunite this year for two new studio albums, founding member Chuck D has revealed. The rap group will release Most of My Heroes Still Don't Appear On No Stamp and The Evil Empire of Everything in June and September respectively. Chuck D told US magazine Billboard the records are "two concise statements that are connected in the same breath". Public Enemy were formed in 1982 and are widely regarded as one of hip-hop's most influential groups. The band, made up of Chuck D, Flava Flav, Professor Griff and Terminator X, have previously scored top 10 albums in the UK with Fear Of A Black Planet and It Takes A Nation Of Millions To Hold Us Back. Their best known hits are Don't Believe The Hype, He Got Game and Welcome To The Terrordome - which all reached the top 20 in the UK singles chart. Public Enemy are known for their controversial and politically-charged lyrics, which often criticise the American media."

Good read. I didn't know his story either, it's nice to see that he got his due. It's a shame though, it makes you wonder what the world missed out on because of a couple of shady people making decisions at the record company. I didn't see anything mentioned but I do you know if he's released a single yet? Be curiose what his subject matter, and style (beat and flow), would be now.

No love for 2/3 of De La Soul?
-
I can understand what you mean, it took me a little bit to get used to his voice. I think it grew on me because i forced myself to listen to the lyrics first and then it all fell in place.

I really liked his last album, don't know if there are any fans of his here so I thought i'd post it here. http://www.2dopeboyz.com/2012/01/19/k%E2%80%99naan-%E2%80%93-nothing-to-lose-f-nas/

If you're referring to the skit, it make's a lot more sense when you listen to the lyrics in the first song I posted. http://soundcloud.com/firstserve/de-la-souls-plug-1-plug-2 Otherwise if you are referring to the mix tape then I'd half to ask whats.wrong.with.you? lol

Well, since I started the thread I think I can legally hi-jack my own thread. It appears that they've, Plug 1 and Plug 2, released a mixtape together in anticipation to the project. Which has some new material but a mix of some solid tunes for the most part. Anyway they released a skit for it as well, though I'll warn there is plenty of language foul or otherwise. Skit: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ds6dbdOjWV8&feature=player_embedded Mixtape: http://soundcloud.com/firstserve/first-serve-mix-tape-1#new-timed-comment-at-1997526

I agree on the downloads, that's actually how I've got his music to begin with, for me it just sometimes music is so powerful I find I really want it sitting on my shelf with the rest of my favorites.

PETE ROCK + CL SMOOTH - THE MAIN INGREDIENT BOX SET
Big Ben replied to JumpinJack AJ's topic in Caught in the Middle
I own both on CD, but a part of me wants to buy both box sets. But another part of me wants to spend the little extra cash on some music I haven't heard yet. Decisions Decisions. -
So I'm Pretty Sure an Actual Rap Battle Has Begun
Big Ben replied to Big Ben's topic in Caught in the Middle
It's not a Common track though. That track was released a few days ago with all the people you listed, including drake, who used it to diss common. Instead of common using a new beat or track he instead added his own verse shooting back at Drake. He also added the hook 'say my name say my name' from destiny's child. So yes the track sucks, but like you said Commons lines were good. So in essence he used Drake's own song to diss him. -
So I'm Pretty Sure an Actual Rap Battle Has Begun
Big Ben replied to Big Ben's topic in Caught in the Middle
Yeah, but it's pretty clear that he's taking shots at Common on that track. -
In this current hip-hop climate it's pretty rare to see rap battles go beyond one person subliminally taking shots and apologizing right after. Well here is the next chapter in the Drake and Common battle. http://www.2dopeboyz.com/2012/01/09/common-%E2%80%93-stay-schemin-rmx/

COMMON SENSE - The Dreamer/The Believer
Big Ben replied to JumpinJack AJ's topic in Caught in the Middle
Money's been a bit tight lately so I haven't picked it up. But he did stream it free on youtube a week before it was released and I gave it a listen. I thought it was a solid album. When I get some cash I'll be picking it up. -
I struck out on that website. I've been looking for a CD for a while now, it's no longer in print and was probably a limited run. It's Macklemore - Language of My World. I'm also not sure if they ever released Macklemore Ryan Lewis Vs. Album. They both are listed as sold out on there website, and I doubt there will ever be another release. But if you ever come across one let me know. If you need a visual the two albums are listed at the bottom of this page. http://www.bengalyucky.com/store

Big Ben replied to bigted's topic in Caught in the Middle
Why is it that the producer is responding? Why can't these guys stand up for themselves. -
