  1. The accolades continue to roll in for Will Smith. After being nominated for Best Actor by the Golden Globes, Will is now nominated for Best Actor by The Broadcast Film Critics Association for his lead role in The Pursuit of Happyness. Will's son, Jaden, is also nominated for Best Young Actor for his role as Chris Garderner's son. The Broadcast Film Critics Association will hand out The Critics' Choice Awards on January 20th. For the complete list, go to The Critics' Choice Awards
  2. It's crazy that people were predicting such a low number. Box Office Mojo predicted somewhere around $17 million and for it to finish in third place this weekend.
  3. Will Smith, nominated for Best Actor by The Golden Globes, has the #1 movie in America according to Friday's Box Office Estimates. The movie, based on the real life of Chris Garderner, grossed slightly over $9 million on Friday according to Box Office Mojo. If those estimates hold through the weekend, Pursuit stands to make close to $30 million in its opening weekend. For the list go to Box Office Mojo. If that link doesn't work simply go to Box Office Mojo.com
  4. As much as I want Will to win this is going to be one of those cases where he has absolutely no shot. Everyone has been raving about Forrest Whitaker's performance while Peter O'Toole & DiCaprio will be the sentimental favorites because neither has an Oscar. I think the only way Will wins is if the voters are swayed by the real-life rags-to-riches story of Chris Garderner. It's a story that will have you in tears but ultimately feeling really good. If that type of story tugs at the voter's hearts then Will will get to hoist up his first acting award.
  5. To answer your question, every actor/actress who's been nominated for an Oscar award has a ballot. I believe certain critics are given ballots as well.
  6. Hmmm... let's see. I think that Will is one of the best storytellers in rap history. To me he is on par with Slick Rick. Flow wise, he's up there as well because he's been able to change flows and as far as lyrics, he's diverse. I don't think he's the greatest but if you put the 20 best rappers together in a picture then you better have FP in there. 30 million records sold & 4 Grammys is an impressive resume and not too many rappers can boast that.
  7. Nas feat. Jay-Z - Black Republican Up next: Jay-Z - 44 Four's
  8. Here are the seven songs that didn't get added to the album. Let me know if I messed up since this is my first time uploading files to share. Robin Thicke - Against The World Robin Thicke - Spend The Night With Me Robin Thicke - In My Dreams Robin Thicke - U Center Me Robin Thicke - High School Man Robin Thicke - Threesome Robin Thicke - I'm Not Loving You
  9. Brian, and Robin Thicke, actually sing about love... and not just the physical aspects of it. Sex is one thing but to actually have feelings for someone and it's not on the physical tip - that's love. Ten is a great album and I think a lot of "R&B" singers could learn a few things from Brian.
  10. Great article. I like how Will looks at the racism issue. I think he looks at it the right way. You have to keep fighting racism and not become a victim of it. I think that's why this movie is really going to do well. It is a story of hardships and triumph. It's about the individual will and drive to succeed against all odds. It's about maintaining faith and hope inspite of everything else.
  11. The interesting thing about Robin's album is that there are about 5 songs that were on the advance that didn't make it to the retail release that are just great. If I get some time, I'll upload them and share them for everybody.
  12. Mary J. Blige tops the nominations with eight, while Red Hot Chili Peppers garner six, James Blunt, the Dixie Chicks, John Mayer, Danger Mouse, Prince, Rick Rubin, will.i.am and John Williams each earn five nods. Beyoncé, Bryan-Michael Cox, Gnarls Barkley, Israel Houghton, T.I, and Justin Timberlake receive four each. In the General Field, nominees for Album Of The Year are Taking The Long Way by the Dixie Chicks, St. Elsewhere by Gnarls Barkley, Continuum by John Mayer, Stadium Arcadium by the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and FutureSex/LoveSounds by Justin Timberlake. Nominees for Record Of The Year are "Be Without You" (Mary J. Blige), "You're Beautiful" (James Blunt), "Not Ready To Make Nice" (Dixie Chicks), "Crazy" (Gnarls Barkley) and "Put Your Records On" (Corinne Bailey Rae). To see the full list, go to Grammy.com
  13. This song is that straight hip-hop. I heard it tonight on the radio. I love the sample from Nat King Cole's "Unforgettable."
  14. Where can I find that song? BTW I'm listening to: Brian McKnight - Ten... Dude is flawless.
  15. Here they are - the latest numbers. Props to rock group Incubus with the #1 album. Jay-Z is down 79% in second week sales while The Game drops out of the top 20. The Clipse's Hell Hath No Fury enters at #14. 16. Here is an article in today's entertainment section in the Chicago Tribune. Enjoy. Will Smith Gets Serious
  17. :soapbox: I think there is this divide within the hip-hop community. It's at a crossroads right now and there is a kind of ciivl war going on. I think there are those of us who are sick of the commercialization and dumbing down of rap and there are those who think that "everything is fine and people are just hating." I was listening to the radio last night and they were playing songs from Jeezy's new album and the DJs were talking about how it was hot and one caller called in and said it was garbage and they accused him of "hating". That caller wasn't hating - those songs were awful. It seems as if common sense has been thrown out the window now when it comes to rap. It's like nobody's allowed to experiment and explore with music anymore. Everybody's gotta follow a formula and get this producer or that producer or start a beef with this rapper. There are fewer and fewer albums like BE, Food & Liquor and L&F. I'm not saying that rappers like Jeezy should be banished but those type of rappers shouldn't be dominating radio. Gets off soapbox.
  18. Not in order: Kid Capri, Grandmaster Flash, Jam Master Jay, Premier, DJ Kool, and of course Jazzy Jeff. I'd have to say Jeff is my favorite.
  19. Congrats to Jay on the album and Kingdom Come is way, way better than Game's album. I listened to Game last Friday and it didn't do anything for me. The interesting question is whether Jay's album will have strong legs like Justin's or his girlfriend's album. Those two albums have hovered in the top 15 since September. I think it will be strong enough for it get close to 2X platinum if it remains in the top 10 for the next 2-3 weeks.
  20. This has the potential of being a disaster for LL. Aligning himself with 50 Cent is already a bad sign in my book. To say that Jay is only good at promoting himself is not really true because if it were then Jeezy & Rick Ross(BTW I don't like either of them) wouldn't have gold & platinum plaques on their wall. Jay is a rapper... who also happens to wear a suit now and he, like Puffy and other execs are concerned about the bottom line. The deal with LL's album was that it was a bad album and Jay wasn't going to promote what he, and most people felt, was a bad album. Now to LL's defense, Jay didn't promote The Roots and that was a travesty in and of itself but it is a business. I'd rather LL go at this, if he decides to do it, alone and without 50's help. Being involved with 50 lends no credibility to it. LL is an ill emcee and doesn't need the help of wack rappers to make a good album. And for the record, I really like Kingdom Come. It's a mature sounding Jay without all the bling, cars, women, etc. I really don't get all the hate towards him. Yeah, he's made some bad decisions at DefJam but I still don't see why people want to hate on him now. Jay is an ill emcee as well and like Em you really can't knock his skills and flow as an emcee.
  21. From Billboard.com: Snoop Dogg Arrested In California, Again November 29, 2006, 9:40 AM ET Snoop Dogg was arrested yesterday (Nov. 28) in Burbank, Calif., for investigation of illegally possessing a handgun and drugs as he left NBC Studios after performing on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno," police said. The 35-year-old rapper, whose real name is Calvin Broadus, and two members of his entourage were arrested around 6 p.m. after a search of his Diamond Bar home and car, Sgt. Kevin Grandalski said. Police seized a handgun and some illegal drugs, Grandalski said. He did not have details. The sergeant said the rapper was arrested for investigation of being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm, possessing cocaine, transporting marijuana and having a false compartment in his vehicle, Grandalski said. "He was in a car pulling out of the studio" when police stopped him, said Donald Etra, the rapper's attorney. Etra said he believed Broadus was booked at the jail for investigation of being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm. He made bail of $60,000 and was released shortly after 1 a.m. today, about seven hours after his arrest. "As of this point, he stands innocent of all charges," Etra said. "The goal tonight was to get him out of jail. The goal tomorrow is to deal with the case." The rapper was expected to be arraigned on Jan. 11, Etra said. Two acknowledged gang members who are associates of Broadus also were taken into custody, Grandalski said. Michael Mingo, 33, of Lakewood, was arrested for investigation of possessing burglary tools and Lovell Polk, 36, of Moreno Valley, was arrested for an outstanding warrant, Grandalski said. He did not know the nature of the warrant. The arrests stemmed from an investigation that followed the rapper's Oct. 26 arrest at Bob Hope Airport here after airport police said they found a gun and marijuana in his car, Grandalski said. "Additional follow-up investigation led detectives to obtaining the search warrant," the sergeant said. He did not have details. No charges have been filed in that case but Broadus has a Dec. 12 court appearance for an arraignment. Etra said the rapper also has a Dec. 4 arraignment in Orange County following his Sept. 27 arrest for investigation of carrying a deadly weapon at John Wayne Airport in Santa Ana. Security officers said they found a collapsible baton in the entertainer's carry-on luggage. The rapper told deputies at the time of his arrest that the baton was a prop for a movie.
