  1. $50 MILLION IN ONE DAY! According to BoxOfficeMojo.com, Star Wars has shattered the opening day box office record with just over $50 MILLION!!! The previous record holder was Shrek 2 with $44.8 million. Star Wars Episode III: Revenge Of The Sith could break the $150-200 million mark... BY THE END OF THE WEEKEND!!! This movie is going to be a monster!!
  2. I'm actually surprised that Source even reviewed L&F. Vibe hasn't done it yet. Neither have any of the other "major" magazines. It doesn't matter though. Will is doing his thing without the help of "big radio", tv or print media. L&F will go gold with virtually no help from the industry. I think Will wanted it like this. I think he wanted to show people that without all the hype, slick marketing, and the constant politicizing that he can still sell. I'd rather see Will go gold this way than go multi-platinum by having to sell his soul, his opinions and his music.
  3. For the midnight showing of Star Wars Episode III, the movie racked up $16.5 million. THAT'S ONLY ONE SHOWING OF THE MOVIE!!! That's better than most films do in a weekend. :bowdownslow: :urock: This movie could shatter the all-time record! I'm just happy that it's out. I can't wait to see it on Saturday!!!
  4. Here in Chicago the prices range from about $2.12 in the suburbs to about $2.52 in downtown Chicago. That price that was quoted in the U.K. is right. They are taxed pretty hard in the UK on just about everything. I don't know what I would do if gas prices got as high as they did in the U.K. The problem with gas prices in the U.S. is that because of government regulations different regions have to have different grades of gas. It costs more money to keep up with the environmental regulations the government has set up. It also doesn't help that a little over 25% of the price of gas is from government taxes. We don't drill here in the U.S. that much and that means we are really dependent on foreign sources of oil. We import over 65% of our oil from other countries. In the 1980's it was less than 30%. The U.S. also has to compete with other countries' whose economies are booming(specifically China & India). Their demand for oil has skyrocketed and also drives up the price of oil. My solution to this problem is easy but the U.S. govt. won't do it. I say cut the govt. tax in half and that will save the consumer about $.25 - $.30. Either that or not be so tight about the different grades of oil. The govt. won't do that because it means less money in their pocket. :bang: :cussing:
  5. It seems Star Wars Episode III is getting rave reviews everywhere. Roger Ebert(who I usually disagree with over his ratings) gave it 3.5 stars and Rotten Tomatoes.com gave it a fresh rating of 83%. It's going to be interesting to see if Episode III can break Titanic's record of $600 million at the box office.
  6. I'm probably gonna get clowned for this but hey, it's a guilty pleasure song: Gwen Stefani - Hollaback Girl
  7. Updated Numbers: Domestic: $177.6 million Overseas: $181.7 million Worldwide: $359.3 million Hitch will probably bow out of all theatres this weekend in the U.S. It is not being tracked by BoxOfficeMojo.com and that happens when a movie is in less than 200 theatres. Overseas numbers are down as well. Hitch pulled in about $1 million and with Revenge Of The Sith opening in many countries this weekend it appears Hitch's great run is finally over. Hitch will end up #4 on the all-time domestic romantic comedy list and #5 on the international romantic comedy list.
  8. I'm a little surprised that both shows are being cancelled. First off, All Of Us really suffered because it went head-to-head against My Wife & Kids(television has a history of doing that to successful black shows) at 8PM EST. It made people(who don't have things like TiVo) choose between the two shows and MWAK won easily. My Wife & Kids suffered becaused the numbnuts at ABC moved MWAK from Wednesday, where it consistently stayed in the top 30 last year, to Tuesdays where the competition is usually much stiffer(American Idol, etc.). Even though the show didn't generate great numbers like last year, it still did well enough where ABC didn't have to cancel it. They're keeping comedies like Hope & Faith and George Lopez which generated much weaker ratings than MWAK. Go figure. I guess my TV watching will be reduced by one more day. :bang: :thatswrong: :madatya:
  9. I don't know how many of you are Star Wars fans but I am a HUGE fan of the saga. I've been waiting 22 years for this movie and now it is here. Is anybody else as excited as I am for this movie? Some analysts think that this movie could break the all-time record. How much do you think Star Wars - Episode III will make? Here's my guess: Domestic: $457.2 million Overseas: $551.7 million Worldwide: $1.089 billion
  10. Dave Chappelle is going to respond to all the things that have been written about him. Here is a little snippet: Dave Chappelle Answers His Critics
  11. Wild Wild West was a case in which Will was funny and he had good chemistry with Kevin Kline but that was about it. In my mind it was a miss. WWW, along with Bagger Vance are the only Will movies that I don't have in my collection. WWW was mediocre at best. Will made it watchable but not enough for me to buy it.
  12. If Tell Me Why isn't released then I actually think they should go with Pump Ya Brakes.
  13. Updated Numbers: Domestic: $177.6 million Overseas: $180.7 million Worldwide: $358.3 million Hitch is close to finally closing out at the theatres. It appears unlikely that Hitch will pass Pretty Woman($178.4 million) as it still a little over $800,000 short. The movie could only muster up $240,000 over the weekend. Hitch is in less than 300 theatres nationally meaning it will soon completely bow out of theatres. On the international front, Hitch could only muster up less than $2 million since the last update. Even though the movie has yet to open up in Japan, it will be very tough for Hitch to pass $200 million overseas. On the upside, this movie has been a phenomenom for Will Smith & Overbrook Entertainment. The movie cost $70 million to make and possibly another $20-25 million to market making it a "big budget" film. With its U.S. gross of nearly $180 million, Hitch has greatly surpassed movie analysts' expectations.
  14. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!! :urock: :birthday:
  15. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!! :dancingcool: :birthday: :birthday: :thumb: :urock:
  16. Not only do I think Tell Me Why should be released but I think it's the most sobering, realistic and conscious hip-hop track I've heard in quite a long time. The reason why Willennium didn't do bigger sales, I think, is the fact that Sony released Freakin' It instead and that's the biggest problem with rap right now. Rappers gotta have "hot" or "radio-friendly" tracks. Tell Me Why is real! And I don't buy that more serious tracks can't do well in the spring & summertime. Wasn't Kanye's Jesus Walks song released last summer? Look at how big of a hit that was. I believe Tell Me Why is on that level of Jesus Walks. Jadakiss' Why was remedial rap at best. He tried to be controversial by "suggesting" Bush knocked down the towers but no one bought that nonsense. And then you knew it was a money-making ploy when he was making money off the "Why?" T-shirts. Will's song comes at it from a totally different angle - from the minds & hearts of young children. For those of us who are grown, we've had to answer questions from young kids when stuff gets crazy. We asked questions of our parents when we all were kids. I think it's imperative for Will to release Tell Me Why. Who cares what the haters will say. They're haters; it doesn't matter what Will does they'll hate on him. I know we all want L&F to be real successful but this time it's not all about sales. This song can really reach out to some people and get them to think about things that are going on in the world today. We can party later.
  17. Updated Numbers: Domestic: $177.2 million Overseas: $178.6 million Worldwide: $355.8 million It appears Hitch is beginning to finally slow down its numbers. Hitch only pulled in $2.8 million overseas in the last week or so. This type of drop-off is usually a sign that a movie has run its course. Even with Hitch yet to open in Japan, it still looks like it will struggle to get to $370 million. It would take a monster opening to get it over $370 million. Either way, the numbers that Hitch has racked up to this point are staggering considering most analysts thought Hitch would struggle to get to $100 million in the U.S. It marks the third straight movie for Will Smith to crack the $325 million worldwide mark!
  18. Why am I not surprised? When I first heard that Bad Boy signed NE I knew it would be a disaster. People have to understand that Puffy is about one thing & one thing only - Puffy. If you get signed to Bad Boy then you have to understand that you'll do what Puffy says, when he says and how he says it. He's very hands on and controlling. He really doesn't give artists creative freedom. That is the reason why Mase left the first time(and probably soon again). It's the reason why Faith, Craig Mack and 112 left. Puffy is a great producer but the show is all about him. He's still living off the name of his Uptown days when he produced for Mary J. Blige, Jodeci and others and of course launching Biggie's career. What has he really done since Biggie's untimely death? A few "hot" singles here and there and that's it. Bad Boy Records is falling apart if you ask me.
  19. Click HERE to vote for Will for the 2005 MTV Movie Awards!! He's up for: Best Male Performance - Hitch Best Comedic Performance - Hitch
  20. It's about time that Bud Selig showed some gusto on this issue. I still don't think it's harsh enough but so be it. I know Donald Fehr is going to try and block this and I hope he is unsuccessful.
  21. Will's flow on Swagga is the sickest I've heard from him. It's one of my favorite tracks and one the first songs I memorized.
  22. Update: Hitch pulled in almost $450,000 this weekend taking its total to $177.2 million. It's still another $1.3 million away from taking the #3 spot on the romantic comedy list. It looks as if Hitch will struggle to catch Pretty Woman. Overseas numbers will be out later this week.
  23. I think all four of these would work in different ways. If you want straight lyricism, go with Rakim. If you want the longevity factor, go with LL. If you want it political, go with Mos Def. If you want it raw like "99 Problems", go with Jay-Z. I think there is a lot of hate for Jigga and I don't understand why either. Don't get me wrong, some of his songs are nonsense and just about attracting the masses but he has done songs that are deep too. Jay is a businessman and he understands the music industry and that it's about money. Jay made a lot of money on remedial songs(Big Pimpin, Just Want To Love You, etc.) but he also has made some classic joints(Hard Knock Life, 99 Problems, etc.). Will has done the same thing too. He's made songs for radio and the masses(Gettin' Jiggy Wit It, Miami, WWW, Freakin' It) but has also done classic joints(L&F, Tell Me Why, The Rain, Afro Angel, etc.). I think Will is focusing more on the serious this time around with Lost & Found. Having said all that, I think Jay deserves a little more credit.
  24. Sorry everybody but being from Chicago, I have heard Twista since the early 90's and trust me - NO ONE can rap as fast as that man. Twista's rapping on Slow Jamz was like normal people jogging. Trust, he can rap even faster.
