Vibe Magazine, in true NCAA Tournament style, has put out a bracket with the "64 Best Rappers Alive." Personally I think this bracket is garbage because names like KRS-One, Rakim, FP, LL and others aren't on the list. The last time I checked none of them are dead. Anyway, here is a pic of the bracket. feel free to fill out the bracket if you want. my final four was jay-z, scarface, common & nas with jay-z besting common in a "double overtime" battle.

hancock finishes work week at #1 hancock pulled in $2.9 million on Thursday to finish at #1. it has now pulled in $177.5 million and will look to hopefully take in another $15 million this weekend despite having the dark Knight in theatres this weekend. domestic: $177.5 million overseas: $179.8 million worldwide: $357.3 million 2008 worldwide rank: 5 2008 domestic rank: 4 all-time worldwide rank: 130 all-time domestic rank: 115

The other big movies that are opening this weekend are Mamma Mia and the animated feature Space Chimps. While they won't be on nearly as many screens as Hancock, they are new movies that people may want to see thus taking away even more business from Hancock. It's not out of the realm of possibility that Hancock could fall out of the top 3 this weekend and maybe all the way down to the 5th spot. I do think Tim may be right as the website TheNumbers.com are predicting a $15 million finish & a 3rd place finish for Hancock.

The Dark Knight, which critics are calling the movie event of the year, has already broken a record. The Dark Knight will open in more theatres than any other movie in history. Come midnight on Friday it will bow in 4,366 theatres. The previous record belonged to Pirates of the Carribean: At World's End with 4,362. The Dark Knight has already sold out in more than 700 theatres. It is expected that The Dark Knight will take in $120-130 million. :2thumbs: :w00t: BTW: In case you're wondering Will Smith's highest movie opening was Sharktale. It bowed in at 4,070 theatres. Hancock is second with 3,965 theatres.

Updated Numbers: Another day, another #1 spot for Will Smith's Hancock. It pulled in $3.1 million on Wednesday to raise its U.S. total to $174.6 million. It will more than likely be #1 again on Thursday before it gives way to what critics are calling the movie of the summer, and perhaps the year, The Dark Knight. Hancock will probably only take in $7-12 million over the weekend and finish the weekend around $190 million. It will definitely close above $200 million giving Smith his 2nd straight and 4th movie overall to finish above $200 million.

Hancock still at #1 in U.S. Hancock was #1 on Tuesday with $3.5 million bringing its U.S. total to $171.4 million. Couple that with the nearly $180 million it's earned overseas and Hancock has now grossed over $350 million worldwide. It passed I, Robot into 7th place on Will Smith's career box-office total list. It will pass Sharktale & Hitch by the end of the weekend to settle into 5th place and could possibly overtake MIBII($441.8 million) before the end of its run.

Back At #1 Hancock re-entered the #1 spot on Monday with $3.8 million. The movie has now grossed $167.9 million in the U.S. Look for Hancock to cross the $175 million mark by the end of the week and for it to finish a little over $200 million.

The box office weekend actuals are out and Hancock still finished #2 with $32 million over the weekend with Hellboy II finishing with $34.5 million. It still finished #1 on Saturday and has officially brought in $164.1 million in 2 weeks. With The Dark Knight possibly poised to break box-office records this weekend, Hancock will surely suffer from it. Look for Hancock to make $5-10 million between Monday & Thursday and finish around $200 million. The overseas numbers look particularly promising having pulled in $179.8 million while still having a few more countries to open in. It's not out of the realm of possibility for it to finish above $300 million overseas and end up with $500 million worldwide. The thing that critics & analysts didn't count on was the better-than-expected word of mouth. While critics dogged Hancock(37% rating at RT), the people thought otherwise. Ultimately what it shows is that Will Smith can sell a movie regardless of buzz. Domestic: $164.1 million Overseas: $179.8 million Worldwide: $343.9 million

Happy Birthday Silver Tiger!!!! God Blessa!!!!

Thanks for the BoxOfficeMojo numbers. Hancock did better than expected this past weekend although it finished #2 this past weekend to Hellboy II. Hellboy II pulled in $35.9 million while Hancock pulled in $33 million. It was only at 47% drop from last weekend. What's more interesting is that Saturday Hancock was #1 with $12.8 million to Hellboy's $11.7 million. Hancock now has pulled in $165 million in the U.S. and should cross the $200 million mark before its run is over. Overseas, Hancock continues its dominance as it pulled in over $100 million in a week. It now seems capable of pulling in well over $250 million overseas and possibly $300 million by the end of its run.

So what did everyone think of Hancock?
TopDawg14 replied to Jazzy Julie's topic in Will Smith Movies
I saw the movie and I thought it was pretty good. It was good entertainment. When it comes to summer movies I just want to be entertained and that's what Hancock is - good entertainment. I don't know if I would put it in my top 5 Will Smith movies like Julie... but it's pretty close. I think I like MIB, Legend, I, Robot, Enemy Of The State and Hitch ahead of Hancock. -
Nobody wants that :noooo: I'm with Visqo on this one. I don't want to rehash WWW. It was bad. Not even Will's acting could have saved that movie. Same goes with Bagger Vance.

That is your opinion. The moviegoers seem to think otherwise. And this thread is not about whether or not the movie is good, it's about how it's doing at the box-office. This thread is about numbers. No where in my previous post was I offering my opinion on the movie. I'm just reporting the numbers. And by the way, there are no "blind fanboys" on this site. You can find them at the willsmith.com message board.

According to box-office estimates on BoxOfficeMojo, Hancock finished #2 behind HellBoy II with an estimated $10.2 million. It looks like HellBoy will take in close to $50 million while Hancock looks for a $30-35 million finish for the weekend. That would push Hanccok well over the $150 million mark. Despite bad reviews, it seems Hancock's legs are holding up. This weekend's take looks to do about 50-55% of what it did last weekend. The total weekend estimates will be available on Sunday evening.

I thought Legend was a big hit. The only people who were talking bad about Legenf were "fanboys" of the book. I've read a lot of message boards and the concensus seems to be that the people like Hancock and the critics don't. It's always hard to sell a drama late in the year and make it a $100 million movie but if anybody can do it Will can. Numbers Update: Make it 7 straight days at #1 for Hancock. It pulled in another $7.4 million on Tuesday raising its total to $119.7 million. At this pace, the movie should cross $150 million by the end of the weekend and set its sights for a possible $200 million finish.
-
Yeah it still has an outside shot at $200 million. The interesting thing is that I was checking out stars' box-office records and something occurred to me. When Hancock passes $150 million, it will not mark the 5th straight time Will Smith's done it, it will mark the ONLY time any actor has done it.
-
Numbers Update: Chalk up another $8 million for Hancock. Continuing its dominating ways, Will Smith's anit-superhero movie Hancock took the #1 spot for the 6th straight day on Monday with just under $8.5 million. That brings its U.S. total to $112.3 million. If it holds at this pace, Hancock should easily pass the $150 million mark by the end of the weekend. When it surpasses $150 million, it will mark the 5th straight movie of Smith's to pass that mark.

Well some people say that men have 3 things in life that make them men - sex, drugs & sports. I can confidently say that as a teenager all I thought about was sex & sports so I can clearly see where Will was coming from. Drugs & alcohol have never been an issue for me. Not much has changed for me either. Sex & sports are still pretty high on my list. LOL. :lolsign: :kekeke:

Busta Rhymes To Be Dropped By Interscope
TopDawg14 replied to bigted's topic in Caught in the Middle
Another reason for artists to dodge record labels and release albums independently. Busta's career consists of 5 platinum(his first 4 albums went platinum) and 2 gold albums. He is one of the most underrated emcees in the game. I think he is back on track after some run-ins with the law in the last year or two. I really like his single, Don't Touch Me. I don't understand why anyone would sign a contract with a major label anymore. With YouTube, MySpace, Facebook, ITunes, Rhapsody and other internet outlets any artist can get their music out there. For music in general, and hip-hop in particular, to be saved, THE MUSIC INDUSTRY MUST DIE!!!! -
Despite bad reviews & less-than-stellar turnout, Will Smith proves to be box-office gold once again. Hancock gained the #1 spot worldwide earning more than $66 million this past weekend and $100 million over the 5-day July 4th holiday. Hancock has now grossed just over $107 million and looks to finish around $175 million. This past weekend marked the second biggest opening weekend in Smith's career(just behind I Am Legend's $77 million opening weekend) and the biggest July opening in his career beating out I, Robot. Despite critics' bad reviews at the movie's plot revolving around co-star Charlize Theron's character, Hancock was the 3rd biggest opening weekend this year behind Indiana Jones 4 & Iron Man. It was also the 20th fastest film to cross the $100 million mark. Will Smith now stands alone in this stat - he is now the only actor in history to have 8 consecutive $100 million movies. Domestic: $107.3 million Overseas: $78.0 million Worldwide: $185.3 million

Tim that was actually a good opening day for the July 4th weekend. Hancock ranks #3 on opening Wednesdays during the July 4th holiday. The 2 movies in front of Hancock? Men In Black II & Independence Day. Most people here in the U.S. usually start hitting the theaters the day before July 4th. For Hancock to open with $17 million on a Wednesday is pretty good. Now if it does less than $17 million today then I would be concerned.

HANCOCK CRUSHES COMPETITION Despite some bad reviews & buzz, Will Smith's new blockbuster, Hancock, officially opened in the U.S. on Wednesday to the tune of $17.3 million. It has now grossed $24.1 million and is expected to easily cross the $100 million mark for the Independence Day Holiday. It will mark the 8th straight film of Smith's to cross $100 which will set a record. He currently has 7 and that has him tied with the Toms - Cruise & Hanks. A quick tidbit: Wednesday's opening was the 14th biggest opening Wednesday in history just behind... 1996's Independence Day. It's is Will's 3rd biggest opening Wednesday of his career behind MIBII($18.6 million) and ID4($17.4 million). Two more of his movies are on this all-time list as well. They are Men In Black(ranked #16) & Wild, Wild West(rank #37).

With the July 4 weekend looming, Will Smith's Hancock got off to a good start with an estimated $6.8 million on Tuesday. Though not officially released worldwide until today, Hancock still opened over 3600 screens in the U.S. and finished right behind Disney's WallE. Despite bad reviews(Rotten Tomatoes has it at 34% Fresh though top film critics Roger Ebert & Peter Travers give it the thumbs up) Hancock is still expected to easily top the $100 million mark for the 5-day weekend giving Smith a record-breaking 8th consecutive movie to make $100 million in the U.S.
