I love when he participates in stuff like this. Thanx for the news. -
JANET JACKSON - Nothing Icon: Number Ones/Why Did I Get Married Too? Soundtrack (2010) Def one of my favorite Janet songs in years.

Now this I kinda like. The 1st Kanye song in 3 years or so that I liked. The beat is dope. He'll never be lyrical or have a good voice, but this is better than most of his vocal efforts in the past few years.

LYFE JENNINGS - Statistics I Still Believe (2010) Is this song getting any support ANYWHERE?! Why Lyfe will never have the best singing voice, his music actually matters. This reminds me of when R-N-B artist and Soul singers had messages.

Lauryn Hill close to releasing new album.
JumpinJack AJ replied to VIsqo's topic in Caught in the Middle
I really can't wait for this. I thought The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill was a brilliant album. One of the last to truly deserve the label "classic." After all of her growth, maturity, and overall strangeness, I don't really view her as an emcee much anymore. More like a Hip-Hip artist who's and R-N-B singer (see Mary J. Blige). I hope she didn't go off of the deep end musically. I wanna hear her come back down to earth and change the face of music again. -
T.I. and wife Arrested on Drug Charges
JumpinJack AJ replied to VIsqo's topic in Caught in the Middle
This is a complete lack of common sense. U think he would have learned something after being in jail. He's got lots of money, a wife, a career. What makes someone in his shoes do stupid and common things. I can't say I'm a fan of him or his music but it just frustrates me when people do things like this and to themselves. And what's up with Tiny? She was a cute and classy member of Xscape. Over the last few years as she's turned her career into being "T.I. girlfriend/wife" she's becoming this unattractive, class-lacking dirty south chick. Disappointing. -
I gave it a listen and my review/opinion is a bit simpler. Kanye West lyrics, hook, and delivery = Trash Rick Ross = Trash Nicki Minaj = Trash The Beat = Good...the kind that dope emcees flow over...but this track doesn't have them other than... Jay-Z = Good

Guys Ain't Nothing But Trouble - feat. Ice Cream Tee
JumpinJack AJ replied to a topic in Jazzy Jeff & Fresh Prince
It's on their album Rock The House. I don't use downloading websites but I would imagine places like Amazon and iTunes having it. -

'BOOM SHAKE THE ROOM' Live Australia '93
JumpinJack AJ replied to Ale's topic in Jazzy Jeff & Fresh Prince
Don't get me wrong, I like the song, but it is the weakest track on Code Red. It has always come across to me as the song Jive wanted on the album. -
I think the whole being white thing was only a big deal in the beginning. Even then, it was before he got wrapped up in gimmicks and being annoying to get attention. Most emcees were giving him props early on because he was so original.
-
I don't know if I agree with that at all. Let's be real. What other rappers and emcees out there are anything like Eminem (the good and the bad)? Whether it's half baked annoying gimmicks or legit songs with insanely creative wordplay, he's in a class all of his own. This Recovery album is one of the greatest things Hip-Hop has going for it right now. More than half of the songs are filled all the good things that he had when he 1st came out...comedy, emotion, and a twisted edge. The production is great on every track. He separated himself from D12 and G-Unit and brought more legit talent into the mix. And although I like Dr. Dre (most of the time), having Dre off of the board was the best thing that could happen. Em's sound was just stale. The same stuff was being recycled and it wasn't impressive. This new album is fresh, full of life, full of variety. It's better than all of the commercial rap albums out there and that's why it's getting crazy support. 2 years ago I was one of Eminem's biggest bashers...but he's fixed what was broken and he's returned to greatness.

Fat Joe Calls His New Album A Classic
JumpinJack AJ replied to VIsqo's topic in Caught in the Middle
Terms like "classic" are overused and have been for years. Just like "keep it real." Terms like that mean nothing anymore. They did in the beginning and have been over used for so long that they mean nothing. I don't know what it would require to have a "classic" album these days. When I think of a classic album, I 1st think of the consistency of the album. From the 1st track to the last, are they all good and are they all different but work together for a stronger purpose (that is the album)? Was it the best or one of the best of it's time. Was the production solid across the board? Did each song have a purpose...a focus? And lastly, some success does need to be in the mix. Something about the album had to be successful to define it's era and influence for years to come (that doesn't mean that uncreative bandwagon artists copying them is considered influence). Is Fat Joe's album a classic. No. Are any of 50 Cent's albums classic. Nope. The 90's was the last decade that really had exciting award shows, music videos, singles, charts, albums that had focus and talent was more often considered when securing a record deal. Dare I say Hip-Hop hasn't had a true classic album in the 2000's? There are some great ones, but very few times do those great albums also get success. There's a lot of successful albums, but hardly ever do those artists have talent, write solid songs, and seek great producers. -

'BOOM SHAKE THE ROOM' Live Australia '93
JumpinJack AJ replied to Ale's topic in Jazzy Jeff & Fresh Prince
Awesome! I've never seen that. They are on point as always. It's funny that they were alot of the same cloths in that "I'm Looking For The One" performance. Some of the crowd is hype (tho' they look foolish and some of them look a bit bored. I would have loved to see them perform song off the album other than the 3 main singles. -
2 good songs! Especially "Feelin' So Good." Why do some people give Jennifer Lopez flack for some of her music. I've always loved her stuff. You got me in the mood for happy music... DESTINY'S CHILD - Happy Face Survivor (2001)
-
KATY PERRY - Circle The Drain (Explicit) Teenage Dream (2010) I wasn't feeling this at 1st, thought I loved the subject matter. But now it's growing on me.

Yeah, the dance pop crap has been aggravating me for the past year. Is Usher's song good? Yes. Is it anywhere near the level of anything from his stuff in '94 thru Confessions...No. Rihanna's stuff isn't the same either. All the new guys doing this stuff are gonna have to change their style to last in music. This ain't R-N-B.

Fat Joe Calls His New Album A Classic
JumpinJack AJ replied to VIsqo's topic in Caught in the Middle
I think if my eyes rolled any harder, they'd fall out of my face right now. -
Code Red was an interesting era. The album was riddled with other producers (all good...but why not use Jazzy since A Touch of Jazz was becoming more established). Jazzy was creating the music in Philly and then sending them to FP in California. They promoted the album themselves pretty well. They did award shows and other performance shows plus interviews...together and separate. Jive did an okay job promoting (tho' they certainly didn't bend over backward for JJ+FP). It was really the Dr. Dre/Snoop Doggy Dogg dominated video and radio that didn't support them much. EVERYONE was releasing albums with explicit lyric stickers on them and recording with a harder edge. Some legit music and some phony studio-gangsta mess. Both of them were dedicated for JJ+FP but also distracted with their individual careers finally blossoming. Not to mention The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. FP was starting a family while heading towards divorce.

JAZZY JEFF BOOTED OFF STAGE MID-SET
JumpinJack AJ replied to JumpinJack AJ's topic in Jazzy Jeff & Fresh Prince
They whole thing is ridiculous. If they did in fact want a DJ to play a bunch of Lil' Wayne and Drake garbage, they should have gotten a top 40 DJ. We all know Jazzy spins all kinds of stuff from all era which rarely touch on what is currently "hot." But even if you put him in a box you would expect him to play true school and old school Hip-Hop. If the event was a charity, it's for a cause much greater than entertainment so who has the right to be picky about what is being play PLUS pull a Hip-Hop legend off of a stage?! The whole thing is just stupid. Things like this should happen to obnoxious, explicit "entertainers"...not a down-to-earth legend.
