  1. Last night I got the awful news that Rich Cronin of LFO passed away. He had a stroke in his hometown of Boston. While only met Rich once, I've been in touch with him since 2005 and he is truly an amazing person. In fact just 4 days ago we talked online. Right now I can't really put more into words other than Rest In Peace, brother.
  2. Overbrook hasn't really established itself in music the way it should have. It would be the safest choice for her...but Jay-Z's label would get more attention. It certainly doesn't sound like the safer choice tho.'
  3. R.I.P. I don't remember him much in Beetlejuice. It's been years since I've watched that. But I remember him being hilarious in that episode of FPoBA.
  4. I just read that article myself and was gonna post it. Not sure how I feel about the Jay-Z affiliation.
  5. I saw this a year ago and haven't seen it since! I really want it! I might get one. I've spent so much money on my house that my funds are quite low. I have no idea where I'd put it. BUT I WANT IT!!
  6. SARA BAREILLES - King of Anything Kaleidoscope Heart (2010) One of the catchiest pop songs of the year. It's her non-single music that I love the most usually.
  7. It's a good song when you hold it against today's popular standards. I can see young people as well as older people being able to appreciate this. I'd be interested in hearing more songs from her. Hopefully ones that have a better change of not sounding 2010ish to us in a few years. She definitely has the voice and swag to make it in the industry.
  8. He does get tons of flack. I don't know. I mean, he was a bit egotistical in his persona but at the same time, he had some very down to earth moments in both his music and his interviews. As a white boy in Hip-Hop he certainly had to work harder than your average emcee back then. He mixed the streets with the clubs. That's exactly what everyone is trying to do now. The thing is, he actually came from the streets but since he's brother was in one of the biggest pop groups at the time, they wanted to put that label on him as well. When I watch/read the old interviews I have from that time, all I see is a young person living it up. Sometimes when we do that, we do some silly things. I think the fact that critics and so many haters dissed him, it gave him a bit of a complex. Why he says stuff like that in the interview u posted, he's still got some of that swag that comes out depending on who he's being interviewed by. If he's relaxed, Marky comes out. Otherwise he tries to do the hollywood thing. FP does a similar thing sometimes. Yet on top of that, Marky recorded music for years that he never released and never intended on releasing. Artists evolve. I've always wished he'd come back musically but he's just not willing to fight the haters and jeopardize his career.
  9. I like hearing all of the buzz. I could see Mike Tyson in a small role...but nothing 2 big. Any news confirming Tommy Lee Jones yet? The movie just won't be the same without him. I can't see it being nearly as good as it could be. The whole time traveling thing is a bit of a stretch. Maybe they are gonna stop with this one. There's always the chance that Agent J might not come back from the past which would be an appropriate way to finish off the series. And unlike the idiots behind the Marvel Comics movies...NO REBOOTS!!
  10. MARY J BLIGE - Your Child Mary (1999) I'm missing this sound and I'm reflecting back how life was when this came out.
  11. I'm excited for this news. Her first Christmas album is a modern classic. She's evolved over the years but I'm hoping this new one is a proper mix of the old with the new. I've been hoping she'd do another Christmas album for the past few years. I hope they go back and release the remix album they mentioned tho.' ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Mariah Carey's Christmas Album Due in November Mariah Carey has spent the past few weeks dodging pregnancy rumors, but the songstress isn't avoiding whispers of a new Christmas album. Carey will release 'Merry Christmas II You' on November 2. According to Rap-Up.com, the new album is a follow-up to Mimi's 1994 holiday compilation 'Merry Christmas,' and it will feature both new material and covers of classic holiday songs. In March, Carey's camp officially scrapped plans to release her remix album 'Angels Advocate' in favor of beginning work on the Christmas album. 'Angels Advocate' was set to feature a collection of remixes from her twelfth studio release 'Memoir of an Imperfect Angel,' but after several delays, it was shelved permanently. Intended features on the album included Ludacris, Mary J. Blige, Snoop Dogg and R. Kelly. 'Merry Christmas II You' will be released in conjunction with a new Christmas DVD -- the details of which have not been revealed yet. In April, famed fashion photographer David LaChapelle shot the covers for both the album and the DVD and told the U.K. Times that the pop diva had originally requested real reindeer for the cover shoot. Mariah Carey's 'Merry Christmas' album, which included the holiday hit 'All I Want for Christmas Is You,' sold over 12 million copies following its 1994 release.
  12. Mos Def Encourages Science Education Mos Def wants to send students off into space. The Brooklyn emcee is partnering wit NASA and singer Goapele to help promote science education at the I.S.I.S. Science & Culture Festival in Oakland, Calif. this weekend. Mos will appear alongside astronaut Leland Marvin and conduct a holographic presentation in the Cabot Space and Science Center to educate youth on pursing higher education in the field of science and technology. "Leland Melvin and myself are working with the Instituting Science in Schools Program, sponsored by NASA," Mos said in a statement. "I'm just here to give the young people some inspiration, some positive encouragement and some good information about science, technology, creativity and discovery and how to use math, science and information to make a positive impact and changes on the world around us." The free event which takes place Sunday (Sept. 5) is open to the public and will be held from 11-5 PM. Watch Mos Def talk about the project in the video below. http://www.theboombox.com/2010/09/01/mos-def-encourages-science-education/?icid=main|main|dl7|sec3_lnk1|168402
  13. Tim is bringing it this morning...lol KRIS KROSS + SUPERCAT - Alright Da Bomb (1993)
  14. JASON MRAZ - Make It Mine We Sing, We Dance, We Steal Thing (2008)
  15. This isn't my cup of tea...but part of my does want to do something like this one day. Congratz! It's certainly something u'll always remember.
  16. LEFT EYE - I Believe In Me Supernova (2001) This song always gets my head in the right place.
  17. I love when he participates in stuff like this. Thanx for the news.
  18. JANET JACKSON - Nothing Icon: Number Ones/Why Did I Get Married Too? Soundtrack (2010) Def one of my favorite Janet songs in years.
  19. Now this I kinda like. The 1st Kanye song in 3 years or so that I liked. The beat is dope. He'll never be lyrical or have a good voice, but this is better than most of his vocal efforts in the past few years.
  20. LYFE JENNINGS - Statistics I Still Believe (2010) Is this song getting any support ANYWHERE?! Why Lyfe will never have the best singing voice, his music actually matters. This reminds me of when R-N-B artist and Soul singers had messages.
  21. I really can't wait for this. I thought The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill was a brilliant album. One of the last to truly deserve the label "classic." After all of her growth, maturity, and overall strangeness, I don't really view her as an emcee much anymore. More like a Hip-Hip artist who's and R-N-B singer (see Mary J. Blige). I hope she didn't go off of the deep end musically. I wanna hear her come back down to earth and change the face of music again.
  22. This is a complete lack of common sense. U think he would have learned something after being in jail. He's got lots of money, a wife, a career. What makes someone in his shoes do stupid and common things. I can't say I'm a fan of him or his music but it just frustrates me when people do things like this and to themselves. And what's up with Tiny? She was a cute and classy member of Xscape. Over the last few years as she's turned her career into being "T.I. girlfriend/wife" she's becoming this unattractive, class-lacking dirty south chick. Disappointing.
  23. I gave it a listen and my review/opinion is a bit simpler. Kanye West lyrics, hook, and delivery = Trash Rick Ross = Trash Nicki Minaj = Trash The Beat = Good...the kind that dope emcees flow over...but this track doesn't have them other than... Jay-Z = Good
