  1. You did GOOD on this! I like all of these trax...I LOVE more than half of them and will be peeping out the albums. The artists I'd never heard of were the ones I liked the most. Here's a group I found out about last year... Luck One + Dekk "Coulda Been Me" from their album Beautiful Music http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=25HWE3RJnpI&feature=related
  2. I got this news this morning when I got on Facebook. It killed me. I believe Guru was one of the greatest emcees of all time. He was so diverse. He could hit you with some witty lyrics on one song, then with some heavy, life-changing stuff on the next track, then come out with something smooth and soulful for the ladies, then hit you in the head with some street stuff. I think he was easily one of the smartest people in Hip-Hop. From Gangstarr, to Jazzmatazz, to his other solo stuff, I lot almost all of it. The one thing that bothers me is this letter though. I'm kind of confused. We first got information that he was in a coma. Within a week we had a letter from him saying how he was recovering. Is it official that he actually EVER came out of this coma? DJ Premier spoke about the coma vaguely but then he passes away and we get THIS letter. Some of it sounds like he could have written it but I find it very hard to believe that he would be on his death bed and saying such harsh things about Premier. Whether they had a falling out or not (which I never heard of), do you think someone who is about to lose their life is about to be so bitter and petty towards someone else and if they were, would they put all of that business out there for everyone to read? Is it strange that he's speaking so highly of Solar? Guru had a great career and has plenty to brag on but the way he talks about his accomplishments is kind of egotistical. So much of the letter just seems a little strange. I saw DJ Jazzy Jeff put up a Facebook status quoting someone else saying Guru didn't write because he was in a coma all along. Just weird stuff. This is such a great loss for Hip-Hop. May he rest in peace. May his son be taken care properly. And may his legacy be handled correctly.
  3. Ha! I like that reply. Puffy's 1st real taste of doing something for a big artist was managing LL Cool J back in the 80's. Once he started trying to rap I thought he quick. Bad Boy Records has been over for awhile. After the 90's, it's pretty much dissolved to nothing. *Craig Mack (Bad Boy's greatest emcee ever) left (and faded away after his follow album, came back to Bad Boy in 2002, then disappeared b4 dropping the album. *Biggie is gone. *Faith left, settled for smaller sales and since can't get her stuff 2gether *Total broke up and never had enough talent to start any solo careers (tho' they had some good tracks) *Mase burned out in wackness, came back with a better vibe, but then turned his back on it and disappeared. *Black Rob, G-Dep....? *Dream, I liked them but they didn't stay together or lead to anything as strong as their 1st (and only ) album. *New Edition wasn't handled properly, hated working with Bad Boy, and left after 1 album Bad Boy burned bright in the late 90's but they never produced anything that stood the test of time.
  4. "Deep" was my joint back in 2003!! 90% of that album was flawless. RUN feat. JUSTINE SIMMONS - Praise My DJ's (Run DMC Mix) Praise My DJ's (German CD Single) (1999) Do any of the overseas peeps know what this single is about? I've also seen it released under Justine's name feat. Run (in 2001, 2 years later). It wasn't on Arista so I'm wondering why this track was released by another label and for what?
  5. I've heard 2 songs with Nicki on them...and she sucks. I heard her on a track off of Usher's new album and I saw some video on TV. From the bits I've heard, she's common commercial rap crap. Khia is straight trash too. Why is anyone interviewing her? She had a filthy one-hit wonder back in 2002...and then annoyed people on that VH-1 reality show 2 years ago. She has no skills or career...why are people talking about her? Eric B. is a legend. Nicki is just stupid and wrong.
  6. Well, Puffy isn't really making himself known as a rapper or producer anymore. I don't see a problem with it. I don't think either artist is that good though.
  7. The bottom line is this. The industry controls the immature music fan. Record labels don't care if an artist has talent = immature music fans don't care if an artist has talent. People like whatever they are force-fed or exposed to. Radio force feeds the talent-lacking, no self respect-having artists (scratch that)...performers. Therefore, that's what the immature music fan will like. Unfortunately immature music fans and young impressional people are the majority of who listen to Top 40 radio. Case closed. If the radio took a year to play Rakim's new album, LL upcoming album, Mos Def's new album (ect...) and avoid stupid performers like Lil' Wayne, those would be the super stars of that year. It's as easy as that.
  8. I think that the mainstream music fanbase only likes what they are forced to hear. They only like it cuz that's what's there. Have someone who has no knowledge of music listen 2 some typical crap that gets radio play and then something that's actually quality and I think most people are going to choose good music. I refuse to believe the the mass majority is dumb enough to like some of the ignorant music that is popular.
  9. I have that LL Cool J mixtape! I never knew there was an official release of it!! My mixtape is missing 1 of the tracks. Now I need 2 track down the vinyl in that picture!! COLBIE CALLIT - I Never Told You Breakthrough (2009)
  10. EN VOGUE - How Do I Get Over SoulFlower (2004)
  11. I realize this but I'm holding out that there would be some involvement.
  12. The only "Hip-Hop" and R-N-B radio stations we get in MD play Lil' Wayne, Lil' Jon, Kanye West, Jay-Z, Black Eyed Peas non-stop. Don't get me wrong, I like BEP (mostly the older stuff, and I don't mind alot of Jay-Z's stuff, but 90% of the emcees/rappers that get play on the local stations are awful. Does ANYONE have a radio station that plays artists like Common Sense, KRS-One, Talib Kweli, Queen Latifah, Mos Def, etc all day long? I don't like Peedi...but I would gladly listen 2 his stuff over the likes of Lil' Wayne. That's all I was saying. I listen 2 CDs...almost never the radio. And if I do listen 2 the radio, it's a mix station when I'm in the mood for a little be of anything (except hard rock and country).
  13. EN VOGUE - Too Gone, Too Long EV3 (1997) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qle9X1TS4As Something about cleaning to older music just feels good...ha ha.
  14. STACIE ORRICO - I'm Not Missing You (Jason Nevins Remix) Promo (2005?) I was expecting a club mix...this is a Hip-Hop/R-N-B/Pop mix.
  15. You could say that KRS-One is "far from reality" ...but I would only agree on that with the unfortunate reality that Rap on the radio is far from Hip-Hop.
  16. This isn't my favorite vibe when it comes to Hip-Hop but I definitely like this. After hearing "Shutterbug" I'm definitely thinking I'll like the album.
  17. Yeah, I'm never gonna get over that. Jeff should have never recorded it unless it's was strictly gonna be JJ+FP. I don't think it would be appropriate for anyone else 2 even be on the track with the. His annoying voice is the main reason I'm not into him but I also can't remember any lyrics by him that were ever above average. I would gladly swap him for getting airplay over pretty much anyone else on the radio right now tho.'
  18. KRS-One Leads Boycott Against National Hip-Hop Museum KRS-OneAlways one to battle, KRS-One took to the podium at an April 8 launch event for the National Museum of Hip-Hop in the Bronx and shocked audiences with a message to boycott the museum because it did not pay proper respect to hip-hop's forefathers. "The reason that it's not going to happen is because Afrika Bambaataa has said this event is illegitimate and should not happen," said an angry KRS-One. "None of the pioneers are in support of this event. None of them will be here tonight. I am here on behalf of the temple of hip-hop as an observer. We are observing." KRS-One was apparently included in the initial planning and organization stages of the museum, but has spoken out against recent changes in direction. He claims that him and Bambaataa have been working on an accurate, celebratory museum for over two decades, but the people in charge didn't respect hip-hop history enough. "In closing, what you are getting, actually, is a real dose of hip-hop's culture," he continued. "Here is what we are dealing with, ladies and gentleman. We have been trying to start a hip-hop museum for over 20 years. In fact, it was Afrika Bambaataa that came up with the idea. However, most of the people who have been behind the hip-hop museum idea seem to always create groups without addressing the pioneers themselves." Watch KRS-One's tirade below.
  19. I'm looking forward to this. More than half of the artists are great. I have both of his other collaboration albums though it's been awhile. I used 2 listen 2 Q's Juke Joint often.
  20. Good for him, but I don't really think he's any good. I'd rather Jeff work with a higher caliber of emcee.
  21. This doesn't have anything 2 do with Jeff...but it seems like the news should still be posted here. It's from AOL's News. ------------------------------------------------------ Jill Scott: Countersues Record Company By Jawn Murray on Apr 8th 2010 2:40PM Jill Scott: Countersues Record Company That Sued Her Neo-soul siren Jill Scott is fighting back against her longtime record company Hidden Beach Records. BV Buzz reported, back in February, that the boutique music label -- founded by Steve McKeever (pictured with Scott in 2007), filed a suit against Scott claiming that she had "breached her contract." (Read: 'Soul Suit: Jill Scott Being Sued By Record Label.') Now the Philly-bred singer has countersued the label, filing paperwork first discovered by RadarOnline.com, claiming that Hidden Beach cost her millions of dollars. Additionally, the 38-year-old vocalist and actress claims that she was mismanaged by the Epic Records-affiliated recording imprint and that executives broke contractual promises to her. Having released six CDs for Hidden Beach, Scott alleges in legal docs that she lost "millions of dollars in damagJill Scottes as a result of Hidden Beach's mismanagement of her career." She is also upset that the record company is unlawfully using her name in the digital realm. The cross complaint stated: "In a bizarre and unlawful attempt to hold on to Ms. Scott's name...Hidden Beach has launched and continues to operate a "Jill Scott" website, a "Jill Scott" Facebook page, and a "Jill Scott" MySpace page." Her attorneys are requesting that the label "stop misusing her name on internet sites." The singer, who is currently featured in Tyler Perry's 'Why Did I Get Married Too?,' is asking for a jury trial. After BV Buzz's original report, Scott released a statement about Hidden Beach's lawsuit against her. "The lawsuit filed on February 3, 2010 by Hidden Beach Recordings against Jill Scott has no legal merit and misrepresents the history of Ms. Scott's relationship with the label. Jill Scott has the legal right to terminate her recording contract with Hidden Beach Recordings under California's 7-year rule, where she had been a recording artist for more than 10 years. During her time at Hidden Beach Recordings, she released several highly successful albums. At this time, with many creative projects in the works which include music, film and television roles and product development, Ms. Scott looks forward to continuing to further her artistry and building the Jill Scott brand in other creative environments."
  22. Are there any performances that they haven't executed perfectly? I'm serious. I've never seen a bad performance by them ever.
  23. Yeah, I love DMX, but I seriously thing he's bipolar to some extent. He's a complicated mix of character traits. With all the problems that he's created for himself and not really fixing his life up, I can understand why it would drive his wife away. Maybe it's this that will turn him around. He really is one of the best when it comes to legit, gritty, street Hip-Hop. After the 1st few years of his career, his stayed lyrically sharp, but his production when down hill...and fast. His sound has never recovered. The amount of problems he had 10 years ago are the same these days. The ratio of them being problems he's caused for himself are still high.
