  1. I love that they are shining light on this. Definitely good support. Even tho' there is nothing new in this article that we haven't heard in the last few months, i just got hyped reading it. And that pic they used is my favorite modern JJ+FP pic.
  2. It's not for the youth...it's for people. Real artists make music for people...not kids, not adults...they just make it. FP isn't catering 2 pre-teens or anything like that. Just because alot of the people supporting what breaks in2 the mainstream are ignorant youth doesn't mean LL is making music for ignorant youth. And kids aren't buying the music...they are downloading it. Mostly the 20-plus crowd are the ones going out their and buying CDs/albums. I see u trying 2 make some point but i can't say that i agree with it. That's just the way it is. And there is no "weak compairson" that i made. U comparing Kid N' Play to 50 Cent was ridiculous. My Rock The House/Lost + Found comparison was putting yours in perspective. If u are think mine was weak, u are totally missing the point about your own. U saying that "Hip-Hop" is for "urban youth (for face value, that's what they want u 2 think...which is total BS) and not for so called "suburban middle-agers" makes just about as much sense as me saying that Hip-Hop (an American culture and music style that is now worldwide), is not for teenagers from overseas. A statement like that probably wouldn't sit well with people who fit that bill and have a true passion for the music.
  3. I just saw this and came 2 the board 2 post it. This is what happens when people who know nothing about Hip-Hop get a place 2 share their opinion. I have no idea who the writer is but it looks like he doesn't know the 1st thing about Hip-Hop. I mean, if Fab Five Freddy wrote this, maybe i'd care. We all know that it's rediculous that FP is on it. I'll never agree with MC Hammer being on it. He showed the entire game how a show should be put on. He waz the hardest working man in Hip-Hop. Rappers wouldn't be endorsing cloths, food, or doing movies if MC Hammer hadn't done it all 1st. I'll also never agree with Marky Mark being on it. His flow, lyrics, and beats (especially the later ones) were right where i like music 2 be. Both of them are my in my personal favs. And why a lot people chuckle when i say this, i like Brian Green's album and Shaq's albums alot. I'm not calling them legends, but i like them and their stuff is 100 times better than anything that's been on the charts in the past decade. I think Puffy sucks, but with everyone who's entered the mainstream scene in the past decade, i can't say he'd be in the top 25. I'm not really a fan of Bubba Sparxxx but he actually had a few singles that i didn't think were 2 bad.
  4. TYRESE - One Alter-Ego (2006) Man, i never did listen 2 this album that deeply...time 2 really get in2 it.
  5. Hip-Hop has grown up. It's nearly 30 years old when it comes 2 getting mainstream success. It isn't gonna stay in the same place. Commerical rap holds itself at a low standard that young kids who don't know any better will embrace. Commercial rap isn't going anywhere. Lil' Wayne's music isn't any different now then it waz when he started. FP's has. Sure, he's the same person, keeps his rhymes respectable, and still laces his stuff with comedy...but Rock The House was on one level and Lost + Found is on another. That's growth...that's progression. Commercial rap is always gonna be stuck in the same place. The trends may change, but i'll always be mindless, passion-lacking garbage. You are talking all this mess like Hip-Hop isn't for older people and that only adds to what i say when i talk about the younger generation not knowing what good actually is. Why don't u hit up FP, Chuck D, LL and tell them they need 2 hang up the mic cuz they are 2 old. Ridiculous. That faces are the same when it comes 2 Hip-Hop. Not many new faces have entered the scene in the past decade. The game has just changed. Dope artists adjust from selling 10 million albums to going gold. They go from working with big name producers to becoming the producer themselves...or working with a very small circle of producers. They go from having videos on MTV to having them on the internet. Hip-Hop is alive and well and more than half of the people keeping it alive when it comes 2 music are the people who were holding it down in the 80's and 90's. This new stuff is not Hip-Hop. It's not strengthening the culture or bringing the culture 2 the masses. What 50 Cent does, is totally disconnect from the movement. Losers like Lil' Jon can keep doing what they're doing. What i'm missing is when dope artists got mainstream success and good music got radio play. U can be content with commercial Rap eclipsing real Hip-Hop music on the charts all u want...but i'm always gonna fight for good music....for real music. That's what deserves 2 be played and succesful. Time 2 listen 2 "Lost + Found."
  6. I'm really sorry 2 hear that. The people who have known me for awhile on this board know i'm real sensitive 2 that kinda thing so i'm feeling 4 u right now. Just be proud that u gave your dog the love and attention u did. So many pets out there are neglected. And like Julie said, be thankful your dog didn't have 2 really suffer.
  7. Thanx 4 this. I can't wait 2 give it a listen. I can't say that i'm a big fan of the solo projects...or even that i like OutKast half as much as i did back in the mid-90's, but i respect what they do and always keep an open ear. I love that there's some political and world stuff on the album. It's about time some of that get released so that people who control the charts hear some substance. ...but why is it that emcees and rappers always get MJB when they do a "monumental" song? ha ha. I guess if they are gonna work with talent of that caliber they wanna put their best foot forward.
  8. Ha, i love this song. I think i made a post about this guy months ago. I haven't heard any other song and was checking for an album but with no luck of finding one. I love this joint. THIS is just like when Hip-Hop had a fun side 2 it.
  9. But Aj, thats exactly where you go wrong with yuour argumentation. About 90 procent (Cant fron on dissing Soulja Boy and them. There is nothing like Skills left.) of the artists you are dissing (Nelly, Ja Rule, UGK (Them anyway)..even Lil Wayne, lol, to name a few) do just what you say here. You just dont take the time to listen to all theyr stuff. I can name you a big load of songs where they show diffrent sides (I would even send you some of them). Not saying I like them all, just saying you doing them wrong. I get what u are saying...and i DO listen 2 everything. I'll give anything a chance. I'm not listening 2 Ja-Rule albums from start 2 finish and then dissing him, but i preview new music at FYE all the time. I actually own all of Nelly's albums. This one girl i was talking 2 like him...so i bought all of his albums for like 75 cents a piece on half.com so that i could make a mixtape of all of the songs i could bare...ha ha. So in some cases, i actually have peeped entire albums. U could say that only previewing an album dosen't give u proper perspective of an album, which is true. But 99% of the Hip-Hop albums that chart, leaving u thinking "if i've heard 1, i've heard them all" after ever few seconds.
  10. I've only had the album for 3 days...and the more i listen 2 it, the more i like it. I get something new out of the lyrics with each listen and come 2 grips with the consistant sound of the production. It's probably still her weakest in my opinion...just not as weak as a thought. There are hiccups in between the greatness.
  11. Listen 2 Kid's music on his myspace...u are saying 50 Cent has the intellect and capability 2 take on a vet who makes real music? U are comparing a modern fake-thug commercial rapper 2 an 80's and 90's Hip-Hop duo who did their thing at a time where Hip-Hop was fun. Your comparison makes no sense. I'm not telling anyone what 2 listen 2...but i will stand up and tear apart unoriginal commerical rap and educate those who think that it accurately represents Hip-Hop music and culture. Calling someone like 50 Cent "Hip-Hop" is a foolish mistake in which i'm gonna keep that stain off of Hip-Hop's name. Everyone is entitled 2 their own opinion of what they like an don't like. And the immature comment was tied to the word temper. U flipped out and i waz talking about the post. I don't know u and wouldn't call u an immature person. But that reply was all immature drama and no dignity. After so many years of true Hip-Hop heads, many who have left the board after a season, it's hard for me 2 take all the people who have joined the board in the past year or 2 who openly praise watered down rap music and have no idea how much higher their standards 2 be. They are blind 2 how good music can be cuz they don't see past the charts. And Pete Rock liking Jim Jones isn't any different from LL working with 50 Cent. It's annoying when legends support the new generation who is quickly ruining the game that they themselves took years 2 build up...and will take years 2 re-build. It happens alot. I can't explain it but that's the way it is. Maybe they think they can school them or steer them in the right direction, but i could never see the vets thinking ANY of these new school rappers being worthy of crown they have been wearing for years. It's like Hip-Hop babysitting.

  13. Screw Elvis! Even after all these years...it'll always be Fresh Prince for me. Will Smith seems like a brand 2 me. Fresh Prince seems like the man himself. Beyond Hip-Hop...it just seems like the name fits him when u see him surrounded by his peers in the entertainment industry. His personality, his charm, his comedy, his free spirit, his antics....it's all FP 2 me.
  14. I feel u. R-N-B isn't in danger the same way....but it's definitely been in a stagnate state. The difference is that labels (big and small) are giving legit R-N-B and Soul artists a chance. And the lackluster R-N-B records are no where as near as bad as Rap's. R-N-B artists also haven't sold out like some of Hip-Hop and Raps. These rap cats will do anything for a dollar..anything 4 a car...anything for a girl that is out of their league 2 give them attention. R-N-B artists have also stayed a bit more consistant. The sad thing the genres have in common is that ADD commercial music fans have zero loyalty 2 those who have had hits in the past. There is no reason that Boyz II Men, Toni Braxon, Silk, Brandy, etc aren't still having big hits. In the past few months, i've been going back and finding the albums and singles that i've always wanted since they are only gonna get harder and harder 2 find. Some of them are going for really high prices since all the classic artists of the 90's usually have a dedicated fan base willing 2 spend top dollar on out of print albums and singles. Who knows what the future holds. I hope that people who call themselves music fans just keep supporting the artists and buying their albums 2 show that there is a demand for talented artists with heart.
  15. I support the idea and i'd like 2 hear it. Cosby is a living legend.
  16. Forgive me for bumping up this (almost) 4 year old post. But with the tension around the Hip-Hop vs. Rap topics, i just had 2 take it 2 the top.
  17. I think about that ALOT. I remember thinking back in '93 and '94 that things started falling apart with all of rappers coming out basing their records off the simple fact that they could cuss a whole lot. Wow! Guns! Wow! Drugs! Wow! Sex! Just idiotic music. Then the late 90's were laced with more cussing but with slickly boring beats. But now we look at the face of commercial rap and not only are the beats awful (these newly produced trax make Puffy look like a musical god), the lyrics are stupider than ever, and the so-called talent have no talent. I think about how i thought we hit rock bottom back then. I used 2 say stuff like "they need 2 have 2 seperate section in music stores "Hip-Hop" and "Rap." I'd get so many people mad and go on to explain the difference between Hip-Hop and Rap. Now it's like there are 2 seperate genres and even deaf 90 year old grandmothers can tell u the difference between the 2. I mean, if things can get worse, they can always get better. But can we really see labels coming 2 Jazzy, Rakim, Pete Rock, De La and saying "we want 2 make a great Hip-Hop record"...no, they just do whatever is hot. Lupe Fiasco is the 1st and only sign in a long time that the next generation not only can make great music...but that they can actually have skillz and a brain.
  18. I had no idea how many Mariah Carey fans were on this board until a few of the recent MC-related posts were made. So, knowing there's other fans here...here's the review post. Share what u think... MIGRATE - This opener is incredibly "common." It's a moderately upbeat track u'd hear on commerical Rap/R-N-B stations. Not bad, just not anything impressive, at all. MC has a confiedenct vocal presense that is kinda overshadowed by the boring beat. T-Pain also makes an unnecessary appearance. I actually like T-Pain, however, this verse represents much of his more recent stuff...his voice is over vocoded and his appareance is unnecessary and doesn't NEED 2 be a part of this song. I didn't listen 2 more than a minute of this when i popped the CD in. TOUCH MY BODY - The 1st single. I love this song. Simple, slightly naughty lyrics over a laidback feel good vibe. She could have hit us with a mega ballad or club song, but this was a nice change. U've heard it...do i need 2 go on? CRUISE CONTROL - Props 2 Mariah for tredding in2 new ground. The reggae/dancehall is something new for her and the Damian Marley partnership was unexpected. Sadly, Jermain Dupri (one of my personal favorite producers of all time) provides a common and boring choppy beat that has a touch of a dirty south feel. Did i mention Mariah's vocal experiement and Damian's appearance are the only thing that make this song have reggae/dancehall flava? I STAY IN LOVE - Is a nice slow love song produced by R-N-B genious Bryan-Michael Cox. The piano is beatifully simple and Mariah's delivery is classic. Some people might roll there eyes to a song so "simple"...but sometimes simplicity leads 2 flawless elegance....that's how i few this song. SIDE EFFECTS - This song sucks. The watered down dirty south synths provided by the incredibly overrated Scott Storch are awful. The song would be greatly improved if they weren't there. Scott Storch has been out of his prime for awhile, but u think that if he waz gonna work with Mariah, he'd come up with something original...or at least barable. I also think MC sounds way 2 uninspired on this one. Oh, and if the song couldn't get any worse, Young Jeezy shows u that it can when he tries 2 rap on it. Thank God for the Right pointing arrow button on the CD player. I'M THAT CHICK - This upbeat dance track has a skating rink throwback feel. I like this one alot, bit it just feels like they only 90% finished the song...like some other instruments could be thrown in2 the mix. This is probably the best upbeat song on the album. LOVE STORY - I really like this moderatly slow track. The lyrics are great and MC sounds great singing them. This sugary sweet beat has JD redeeming himself for the beat he did earlier on the album. I'LL BE LOVING U LONG TIME - This is another good upbeat feel good song. This drama-free reminds me of R-N-B before it got 2 tainted. This song is a must for any Spring/Summer 2008 mixtape. LAST KISS - MC and JD slow it back down on this almost mid-tempo track. This song captures the feelings felt shortly after a break-up. The hopefull lyrics remind me of a place i used 2 be. The classic MC delivery is on this one. THANX 4 NOTHIN' - This song keeps the mid-tempo flow going with the 1st sign of real lyrical drama/heartbreak. This song is for the ladies (or anyone) who has had a relationship end and u are left feeling stupid for wasting your time becuz u overlooked the redflags from the other person. This is one of my favorites. JD handles this one 2. O.O.C. - I think this song is just weird. It's a Swizz Beats produced upbeat song about being out of control from missing your ex...even tho' both of u are with other people. Strangely, the liner notes say Da Brat is doing back-up on this song but u can't hear her cuz her blends with MC so well. This is the 1st time that i heard the song and really liked it. The first few times i didn't like it at all...but now i do. Decent song. FOR THE RECORD - One of my favs. It's a mid-tempo slickly produced R-N-B track with a great chorus. MC's lyrics and delivery are as usually...great. Bryan-Michael Cox provides Mariah with another great song. The chorus is what really gets me tho'...just lovin' this one. BYE BYE - This piano-heavy sugary sweet sounding mid-tempo R-N-B joint has Mariah singing about loved ones that we have lost. Very touching song done in a very unemotional way (not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing. The ONLY thing that kills me is the ridiculous dirty south "ay"s turned down in the background. Why on God's green earth are they there? Still a beautiful song. I WISH YOU WELL - This is the ONLY song on the album that i feel has the sound MC truely deserves. The live instruments support her vocals like no song on the album. Better yet, JJ+FP alumni and soul music legend James Poyser is the producer on this one. This is one of MC's classic gospel tracks. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Overview: Mariah Carey is one of the best artists of all time. She has been doing this proffesionally for nearly 20 years. I feel really old by saying this, but i've been down with her since the very beginning. She has one of the greatest voices of all time. Her songwriting ability is amazing (and so overlooked). She's viewed as a diva, and tho' she can put on that image, she's one of the sweetest, down-to-earth artists in the industry...which is amazing since she's one of the most successful artists of all time. This album however, is not her finest moment. Infact, i personally think this is her weakest album...unless u wanna consider her Glitter soundtrack an official studio album. Mariah's voice is more than intact and her lyrics are as powerful as ever. My only complaint here is that more of the subject matter is charted territory and is not much of a stretch for her. And like a mentioned in the song-by-song review, she sounds a little board on a few of the songs. Is that due to the subject matter or the production. The production is why i'm mostly a little disappointed in the album. It seems like Mariah has done what a few great artists of our time have done...watered down their music because commercial music fans aren't demanding REAL music. Since Mariah is an R-N-B artist, she may be taking in consideration that commerical Rap and R-N-B fans aren't requiring anything from the music getting radio play and success. Production is a sleep-fest or just plan bad. Lyrics have gotten boring and uninspiring and talent is always required. Mariah has devoted nearly half of her albums to the "hot" talent at the moment...but when that leads 2 boring efforts from Scott Storch, Swizz Beats, Young Jeezy, and T-Pain...when do u finally put your foot down. Lastly, we are coming off of the Emancipation album. People called it her "come-back" album, even tho' her Charmbracelet had 3 hits and was an amazing album. Emancipation had a thick, solid soulful sound. Sure, it had ?ustionable apparances from Nelly, but the album was amazing. A perfect mix of radio-ready joints and solid musical masterpieces. The lyrics were flawless and timeless. I respect Mariah if she purposly wanted to have a low-key vibe on this album (and i think she did) but i will say i'll be listening to Emancipation much more than E=MC2. I love that the CD insert is laced with lyrics since that's one of the album's strongest points. I know a few other people have got the album. I'd like 2 know what other's think.
  19. That's a nice thought...but u gotta realize that some of us have been thinking that for over 10 years now.
  20. Ha, apparently every pioneering old school legend had ghostwriters. Everyone knows Yo Yo worked with Ice Cube on her early work. Foxy Brown once worked with Jay-Z and Lil' Kim once worked with Biggie. The difference is that Yo Yo is the 1st real female emcee of the west coast and that she was on a whole other vibe than Queen Latifah, Salt-N-Pepa, and MC Lyte. Yo Yo's early work was merely guided by Ice Cube. She did write her own stuff and take on more responcibility for her music as female emcees were taken more seriously and got more respect and attention. Yo Yo has gone on 2 produce, host radio and TV shows, break in2 acting, and create/support foundations. 99% of these commerical acts can say they've done or will ever do a third of that. I see i shouldn't have stood up for Turntable when half of the other mods were about 2 ban him. Not only does he talk crap, but he has an immature temper 2...ha ha
  21. ant, i'm not sure. I haven't heard any new news that says they are still actively working on it. I can't see them just giving up. Possibly taking their time. YOLI - Ain't No Stoppin' Sunshine Deliver Us From Eva (Soundtrack) (2002) Anyone looking for a good R-N-B soundtrack...check Deliver Us From Eva (Usher, Mary J. Blige, Terry Dexter, Yoli, Calvin Richardson, En Vogue, Ginuwine, Vikter Duplaix, 3LW...not 2 mention classics by Marvin Gaye + Tammi Terrell and Stevie Wonder.
  22. DOMINO - Getto Jam (G's West Coast Jazz Remix) Sweet Potato Pie (CD Single) (1994)
