  1. If the movie were done with DJ Jazzy Jeff + Fresh Prince, it would be a totally different movie. I feel that the guys in the those roles would really control the vibe of the film. Even with a similar script and cast, JJ+FP House Party would have been very different from KNP's. House Party is a classic and I can't imagine it without Kid 'N Play, but I always wonder "what if."
  2. Will Smith, Jada Pinkett Smith Break Up — With Scientology, Recoup $1.2 MillionWill Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith have reportedly decided to disassociate themselves from the Church Of Scientology. And in the process they’ve received a $1.2 million refund from the church. Radar Online has reported that tax records prove that the pair received the astronomical sum from the church. The actors have never actually confirmed that they are members of Scientology. But Will Smith previously talked encouragingly about the religion, and the pair had even donated thousands upon thousands of dollars to various causes associated with it. In 2010, tax documents showed that the Smiths’ WJS Trust donated $1,235,000 to the New Village Leadership. This is a school that has lessons related to Scientology on its curriculum, and it’s run by people who have close ties to the church. However, the school closed in 2013. But rather than the Smiths losing all of their money, they were reimbursed the complete amount. Since then, the Smiths haven’t donated any more money to Scientologist causes. Instead they’ve sent money to Christian and Baptist Churches in California, Los Angeles, and Baltimore, the latter being Jada Pinkett’s hometown. Will Smith’s association with Scientology has always been rather mysterious. Smith was raised in a Baptist household, while he also went to Catholic school. However he has always insisted that he isn’t religious. But rumors have constantly swirled that Smith was a Scientologist, rumors that the actor has always denied. This speculation began after Smith admitted to talking to Tom Cruise about the religion, and he spoke glowingly about it too. “I’ve talked to Tom about it, “Smith admitted back in 2006, via Hollywood. “[There’s] lots of incredible, wonderful concepts. Jada and I don’t necessarily believe in organized religion.” There’s also one pretty important reason why Will Smith won’t be able to become a member of Scientology too. The fact that he was raised in a Baptist household. In the same interview, Smith explained, “I was raised in a Baptist household and my grandmother would get up out of her casket.” Smith once again refuted claims he was a Scientologist in 2008. He told the New York Daily News, via MSN, “You don’t have to be Jewish to be a friend of Steven Spielberg. You don’t have to be a Muslim to be a friend of Muhammed Ali. And you don’t have to be a Scientologist to be a friend of Tom Cruise. I am a Christian. I am a student of all religions, and I respect all people and all paths.” Read more at http://www.inquisitr.com/2315125/will-smith-jada-pinkett-smith-break-up-with-scientology-recoup-1-2-million/#5vV2Dzzl2qSZ8Opd.99
  3. Eazy-E: The ‘Soul of the Movie’ in 'Straight Outta Compton'Billy Johnson Jr.Senior EditorYahoo MusicAugust 14, 2015Late N.W.A frontman and Ruthless Records head Eric “Eazy-E” Wright may be known as a godfather of gangsta rap, but he was also a compassionate man, as depicted in the biopic Straight Outta Compton that opens in theaters this weekend. The film, which features actor Jason Mitchell portraying Eazy, captures the controversial rapper’s softer side. We see Eazy saddened after N.W.A’s demise and sulking when gazing at a billboard for Dr. Dre’s solo debut album, The Chronic. He approaches Ice Cube in a nightclub to make amends and explore the possibility of a reunion. He is more hurt than angry when he fires his manager, Jerry Heller, for alleged mishandling of funds. And he weeps when he receives the news that he has contracted AIDS and has just months left to live. Screenwriter Jonathan Herman has described Eazy-E as the “soul of the movie.” Eazy’s widow, Tomica Woods-Wright, gave him the context for the script. “The fact that Eazy is not around, Tomica told a lot of stories and she was like, ‘Look, I’m going to tell you a lot of stories. This is the real honest truth and just be respectful about it and tell it,’” he said on the red carpet at the film’s world premiere. “The story is so sad.” Eazy’s eldest child, Eric Wright Jr., who raps under the alias Lil Eazy-E, helped Mitchell prepare for the role. “I reached out to him to give him the support and any advice he needs,” Lil Eazy told Rolling Stone. “Jason has come to my grandmother’s house where I was born and raised, where my father was born and raised and where N.W.A started.” Lil Eazy, who turned 11 two weeks after his father died, said his father was a well-rounded person. “My fondest memories [are] of him being a father,” he told Rolling Stone. “I know him outside of the rap, outside of the hustle, outside of the hardcore. I know the nice individual, the humorous individual, the family man, the one that loved all of his children.” Founding N.W.A member MC Ren, who never quit N.W.A and remained on Ruthless Records until Eazy passed, says he did not have to protect the telling of Eazy’s story. “I knew he was going to be portrayed right because Dre and Cube, they involved, they are the producers of it,” he explained at the premiere. “I knew they wouldn’t just put him out there looking crazy. It’s only one way to put him out there, and that’s to put him out there right.” Ren, who spent some time on the set talking with the actor who played him, Aldis Hodge, says the cast members impressed him with their performances. “W.C. did a good job ‘cause he coached all the actors, and they performing,” he said about the veteran MC, who is also a member of the Westside Connection. “He had them sit down and watch everything. So first day I went down there on the set, they were doing a Skateland scene and it was crazy looking at them up there, ‘cause each individual was acting like they had the mannerisms down like everybody. And I ain’t seen that since we been onstage.” MC Ren recently released a new single, “Rebel Music,” featuring Ice Cube. https://www.yahoo.com/music/eazy-e-the-soul-of-the-movie-in-straight-outta-126707302726.html
  4. Eazy-E’s Daughter Tweets Thoughts on ‘Straight Outta Compton’ FilmAug 15th, '15 • News • by C. Vernon Coleman II Photo Credit: Raymond Boyd The long awaited, highly anticipated N.W.A. biopic film Straight Outta Compton was released in theaters nationwide last night, and all eyes seemed to be one the film that has been surrounded with so much hype and even controversy. One person that was paying extra close attention to the film was Eazy E’s daughter, a singer/songwriter herself, who goes by the stage name E.B. Earlier today, she took to Instagram to give some of her thoughts on the film. “A LOT of Eazy-E’s storyline was missing but that’s okay because I’m producing a documentary that will show EVERYTHING including his death,” she posted. “A lot of “Death Row” story in what was the “N.W.A.” story .. They don’t show that my dad went to court and still made money off of Death Row,” she added. Overall her opinion of the film was positive as she noted, “Last but not least … The acting in Straight Outta Compton is absolutely INCREDIBLE ! So proud of ALL the guys.” Peep her opinion of the film, at the link below: http://www.xxlmag.com/news/2015/08/eazy-es-daughter-speaks-straight-outta-compton-film/

  6. The LAPD is not too happy with the release of Straight Outta Compton. Los Angeles police officers believe the film portrays them in a negative light (as if they need any help with that). According to TMZ: Former L.A. City Councilman Dennis Zine, who was himself an LAPD cop and headed up the Police Protective League, tells us, “It’s a terrible time to release a movie like this. It adds fuel to the fire for hating cops.” Despite their dissatisfaction with the film, it won the Friday box office, earning a whopping $24.2 million on its first night in theaters. CNN reports: The Universal biopic “Straight Outta Compton” rocked the box office on Friday with an estimated $24.2 million in the U.S. This total came close to the film’s entire budget of $29 million. The big Friday numbers also boosted industry projections for the film’s opening with experts now predicting that “Compton” could make close to $60 million this weekend. http://globalgrind.com/2015/08/15/shia-labeouf-tupac-tattoo-straight-outta-compton-wins-box-office-more/
  7. I just saw the movie. It is dope! I wanna see it again. It's really well done and well cast. Much of the story will be known to fans of the guys, but there are a few moments in the film that tell a new story. Jazzy Jeff's scratches in the film are great. I sat through the credits just to see his name in the credits instead of FP's....lol. The actor who played Snoop really didn't look like him, but his Snoop impression is great. Warren G isn't actually "introduced" in the movie, but the unnamed character who plays him does a great impression as well. There's more Suge Knight in the movie than I expected, making his incident tied to the film even more coincidental. His presence interaction around Eazy and Ruthless was something I didn't know about. I assume it wasn't fictitious. The guy who plays 2Pac looks eerily like him. Go see this movie, even if you aren't a fan. I went with a friend who know NOTHING about Hip-Hop, and while she won't be buying any N.W.A. albums anytime soon, she did like the movie.
  8. I saw this article earlier today: Will Smith Is Reportedly Working on a 'Fresh Prince' Reboot By Ian ServantesNostalgia is quickly becoming the strongest force in entertainment, prompting reboots of Full House, Ghostbusters, X-Files, and a grip of other shows and movies from our not-so-distant past. Now the pull is exerting its force on one of our most beloved entities of all time. A Fresh Prince of Bel-Air reboot is reportedly on the way, with Will Smith leading the way as executive producer. TV Line reports Smith's production company, Overbrook Entertainment, is in the very early stages of developing a new show that "puts a new spin on the fish-out-of-water tale while maintaining the spirit of the original series." The pitch is still in the works, and Smith is expected to start shopping the show in coming weeks along with his not-divorced wife, Jada Pinkett-Smith. Sit on those facts for a second and commence the freakout. http://www.complex.com/pop-culture/2015/08/will-smith-fresh-prince-of-bel-air-reboot?utm_campaign=complexmag&utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=social&sr_share=facebook I'm also not excited about this when they use the word "reboot" in the title of the article. However, it doesn't sound like it'll be an actual "reboot" or a "sequel," so as long as it stands on its own as a sitcom, then I'm cool with it...lol.

  10. TIMBALAND + V. BOZEMAN - Smile (2015) http://www.audiomack.com/song/fashionably-early/smile-ft-v-bozeman Man, Tim should have let V handle all of the singing vocals and just dropped a rap without vocal effects. I love the song, but his poor singing takes away from it some. At least he's not just doing urban pop anymore.
  11. DJ Jazzy Jeff + Salt in the 80's. Someone posted this on a Facebook group I'm part of called The Basement.
  12. Unreleased Aaliyah Material May Be Coming Soon Later this month, the music world will mark the 14 year anniversary of Aaliyah‘s tragic death. Lost in a plane crash in the Bahamas, at the age of only 22, Aaliyah had become a guiding light for R&B in her all-to-brief career. Mentored by numerous producers, including Timbaland, her talent belied her age, and now, over a decade later, we may be getting the chance to hear more of it. In an photo posted to Instagram Saturday, Timbaland expressed his continuing grief and admiration for Aaliyah, then hinted that previously unheard material of hers may in fact be headed our way soon. “People ask me all the time do I have any babegirl music we haven’t heard,” Timbaland wrote. “Well the answer is YES!!!!!!!! TIMBO x BABEGIRL !!!!! Sneak peak coming!” If Timbaland’s promises turn out to be true, the music would serve as the first “new to us” offering from Aaliyah’s catalog since Tink’s “Million,” which flipped her classic hook from 1996’s “One In A Million.” Hopefully, though, Timbaland is referring to completely unused, original tracks, as we know we’re surely not the only ones who would be on cloud nine to hear fresh sounds from the lost queen of modern music. Stay tuned.. http://www.okayplayer.com/news/timbaland-unreleased-aaliyah.html

  15. Rapper Sean Price Passes Away This MorningBrooklyn rap giant and one half of the legendary duo Heltah Skeltah passed away this morning in Brooklyn According to reports from family and friends, rapper Sean Price died suddenly this morning in his sleep at his home in Brooklyn. Price was 43 years old. The cause of death is not known at this time, however an update will be made following the release of an autopsy report. Price entered the rap game under the moniker “Ruck” along with his partner Rock as the group Heltah Skeltah, the famed duo from the Brooklyn Hip Hop collective Boot Camp Clik. In the past decade, Price revamped his career as a solo artist using his given name of Sean Price, releasing several projects including his latest, Mic Tyson, which arguably one of the best albums of 2013. 16. If this is true, this guy is a monster. Now I can see why Bobby wouldn't let him attend the funeral, even after he was begging. Nick Gordon gave Bobbi Kristina a 'toxic cocktail' before she was found unconscious, lawsuit saysAug 7th 2015 7:01PM(INSIDE EDITION) -- Nick Gordon gave Bobbi Kristina Brown a "toxic cocktail" before putting her face down in a bathtub filled with cold water, according to an amended lawsuit. Bobbi Kristina, 22, was found unconscious in the tub in January and placed in a medically-induced coma. She passed away last month. A lawsuit alleging assault, battery and theft was filed against Gordon on June 24 and the amendment, which was filed on Friday, adds a wrongful death count. It claims that after Gordon returned from a "cocaine and drinking binge" on January 31, the couple started arguing in the kitchen of her Roswell, Georgia home before they moved upstairs. During the 30-minute argument, Gordon allegedly accused Bobbi Kristina of cheating on him before "everything abruptly became quiet." Gordon gave Bobbi Kristina a toxic cocktail that rendered her unconscious, according to the lawsuit. He then put her face down in the bath tub so that she suffered brain damage, according to the amendment seen by INSIDE EDITION. Gordon then allegedly left the bedroom wearing different clothes, got into bed, laid his head on a female guest's ankle and told her: "Now I want a pretty little white girl like you." Around 15 minutes later, a guest went to check on Bobbi Kristina and found her face down in the tub with a swollen mouth and tooth hanging from her mouth, the lawsuit says. Gordon then allegedly entered the room and ordered the room to be cleaned before trying to resuscitate Bobbi Kristina. She was rushed to hospital and later placed in a medically-induced coma. She ultimately passed away in hospice care on July 26. The original lawsuit accused Gordon of assault, battery, intentional infliction of emotional distress, and transferring thousands of dollars from Bobbi Kristina's account to his own without authorization. As well as the addition of the wrongful death count, the amendment to the lawsuit provides further details about their allegedly abusive relationship. It claims that days before she was found unconscious, Gordon punched Bobbi Kristina so that the couch she was sitting on broke. She was allegedly knocked to the floor where Gordon allegedly continued to beat her "until she was bloody," according to the suit. Brown was screaming through the attack and lost a tooth, the lawsuit says. Gordon then allegedly dragged her upstairs by her hair - leaving blood on the walls - as he told witnesses: "I don't do this often." The lawsuit also describes him as controlling. It alleged he limited whom she interacted with and would not allow her to make appointments without his approval. No criminal charges have been filed against Gordon. Following her death, he had a public meltdown on Dr Phil and checked into rehab. He checked out in April and is reportedly staying with his mother. http://www.aol.com/article/2015/08/07/nick-gordon-gave-bobbi-kristina-a-toxic-cocktail-before-she-wa/21219987/?icid=maing-grid7|main5|dl12|sec1_lnk3%26pLid%3D-764711146
  17. Mic checks in front of the audience are the worst. Until the panned back and you could see them, I did think the audience was there since he was simply saying the rhymes with such little energy. The ending was hilarious. Especially when Biz Markie threw in that scratch with FP's opera singing....lol
  18. SWV - Ain't No Man (2015) They just dropped this new single today. R&B for the grown and sexy.
  19. I haven't heard it myself, but I'm seeing a ton of lackluster reviews. A lot of industry cats are talking it up, but a lot of music/Dr. Dre fans are saying there's no more than three great songs on it. A lot of people are saying Eminem's verse is crazy, but part of that could be just because he's so popular. Most are saying the production is underwhelming for Dre's standards and that the album lacks focus. The overall complaint is that is spent over 10 years working on Detox and scrapped it, saying it wasn't that good, but then only spent a matter of months on this and put it out. I must say, I'm not very anxious to hear it. I listened to The Chronic every day during its heyday. I liked Chronic 2001 a lot, but it sounds like he's ending on a weak note if this really ends up being his last album.
  20. Since it's on iTunes, I haven't heard it yet. I hope he makes it more easily accessible to everyone. It wasn't out of the blue though, they have been talking about it all week online.
