The DEFinition isn't a flop at all. People are just used 2 those commercial rap albums that sell millions. So when an album dosen't do 5 million copies, mainstreamers consider it a flop. That writer is kinda stupid. LL hasn't commented on the album's sales or called it a flop. The writer just wanted 2 say that cuz writers are always overcritcal with people like LL and FP. LL took action cuz he felt it waz neccesary...not cuz of album sales. "Fatty Girl" is a good track, but definitly not amongst his best. I think LL really out-shined Keith Murray (who i love) and Ludacris.

:hilarious:  :hilarious:  :hilarious: That is the guy who reviewed "Switch"!??!?!?!?!?!?? :hilarious: Man, i'm tellin' u, that guy IS Hip-Hop!! :hilarious: That guy looks like a Hip-Hop historian if i've ever seen one. On the real, how is that guy gonna know the 1st thing about Hip-Hop?? Thanx 4 posting his picture, that made this whole thing 100 times funnier.

It's there really any 'gangsta rap' anymore?? I don't think so. 50 Cent + G-Unit, The Game, that stuff isn't gangsta rap. It's just common, meaningless rap music with no Hip-Hop or feeling 2 it. It's not 'gangsta' at all. N.W.A. waz 'gangsta.'

"Ghostwriting" is where u have people write songs for you and make it look like your own and talking all the credit. With the solo albums, FP did have some co-writers on a few trax...but not ghostwriters. Check the credits, u'll see the trax that Nas co-wrote on Big Willie Style, the trax Common Sense co-wrote Willennium, and the trax Kel Spencer co-wrote for Willennium and Born To Reign. I personally don't like the idea of people co-writing some of his songs, but with the JJ+FP albums and the other trax on his solo albums, it's easy 2 see FP has the skillz. He works with peers and people he's close 2. It's not like he's saying "hey dog, co-write this song with me, i need help." When u have friends who do the same thing u do, it's fun 2 create stuff 2gether. When i used 2 write alot, there were times when me and my cousin would write songs 2gether. It waz fun, not cuz i or he couldn't do it on our own. Now i do alot of acting. When i thinkin' about how i'm going 2 do a scene, if i'm doing it with close friends, we work 2gether and let our chemistry take it 2 that next level. That's what makes me not look at FP co-writing with other people as a taboo. He has talked about it in interviews and credits the people who work with him, he's not trying 2 cover it up or anything. Besides, look at the people he desided 2 work with....THEY HAVE SKILLZ. Now if he waz working with The Game or Lil' Jon, then i'd be worried. It's becuz of people like Fresh Prince, that talented up-comers like Kel Spencer are getting paid. Kel's solo career hasn't sparked yet and his album never came out...but since he did some work on "Switch," he'll be getting some money outta it's success. It also got his 3rd Power Music Group some attention. I think that the whole Lost + Found era has FP coming full circle tho.' Kel Spencer is probably the only real lyrical sidekick.

I gave The Game's album a listen in the record store. I thought 4 or 5 of the beats were good, but that's it. The Game has no talent and no flow. 50 Cent is the same way 2 me. Garbage, no matter how u look at it. People won't remember this kinda music the way they do Rappers Delight, The Show, U Can't Touch This, Summertime, They Reminisce Over You, Award Tour, and so on.

Man, that's not cool. I'm thinkin' this is more of a business move. LL actually grew up with the 4 main guys behind FUBU. I agree that LL probably dose deserve more than what he got from them. LL Cool J is how i found out FUBU existed and part of the reason i wear it (i used 2 wear it ALOT in the 90's). That FUBU CD also didn't have much talent on it. I almost bought it, but then i saw the awful line up of artists. With out LL involved, i don't thing "Fatty Girl," the only hit off it, would have done as much damage as it did. Instead of getting the album, i found a promo CD single online and bought that.

Right now i'm listening 2 some really annoying oldies. I like oldies from the 60's and 70's...especially the slightly bubble gum Brill Building stuff of the 60's. I love Motown and classic soul. But that's not what i'm listening 2 right now. My dad is in the other room cleaning and felt it necessary 2 pump up the oldies...the kind i don't like. :sad6:

Pump Ya Brakes Appreciation Thread
JumpinJack AJ replied to Hero1's topic in Jazzy Jeff & Fresh Prince
I love the topic and FP's flow. Very "He's The DJ, I'm The Rapper." Jeff on the record is great 2! -
Yo! This movie is crazy. Very funny and very different. I think there's a lil' 2 much graphic gun use for the kinda movie it is...but it's really good. If u like Men In Black, u'll love this movie. Tommy Lee Jones is hilarious in it. And the cheerleaders...well...let's just say...um.....they are very yummy. Christina Milian is the head cheerleader. I think i fall in love with her everytime i see her (Nick Cannon is a lucky man!) Cedric The Entertainer is in there 2, bringing comedy as usual.

The 1st time i saw the trailor, i thought it was funny. I've probably seen it 40 times now. It annoys me now. I think i'll wait til it hits video, that way i can chose 2 not watch it if i hate it.

I wish i could share your excitment for Ludacris being on the track...but i just can't. :nono:

Y'all act like CD singles are common here in the US. In the late 90's, record companies just slowly stopped putting them out. Which sux cuz that means no b-sides, no remixes, etc. 90% of the CD singles i've got in the last 5 years have been imports. Import CD singles are becoming pretty common and their price has lowered in the past 5 years, but there's still so much that we never see. Alot of music fans in the US would only buy the singles and not the album. Of course, some artists only have 1 or 2 really good songs on their album and use them as the singles, so the singles are all u really need in some cases. So record companies are actually pretty smart by not releasing singles in the US anymore. That hurts fans like me who like 2 get singles 4 the remixes and b-sides. Think about it, in the US, while on Columbia, FP only had a few CD singles released... Gettin' Jiggy Wit It, Just The Two of Us, Wild Wild West, Freakin' It. Overseas, u got Men In Black, Just Cruisin,' Gettin' Jiggy Wit It, Just The Two of Us, Miami, Tatyana Ali's Boy You Knock Me Out, Wild Wild West, Will 2K, Freakin' It, Black Suits Comin,' and 1,000 Kisses. I havn't noticed any artists on Interscope releasing singles in the US in recent years. I just don't expect them 2 put one out for "Switch."

JJ+FP + SNOOP - Pump Ya Breaks
-
Man...i think i'm gonna have 2 the Party Popper outta the group. These new trax are nice, but i'll take "Potnas" or "The Rain" over them with the quickness. I like the energy of "Party Starter" but it's not what i want from FP...and Ludacris just dosen't make any sense 2 me as a colabo potna. I love Jeff cuttin' of "Pump Ya Breaks" and i love FP's flow...but i just think the production, again, just isn't there. And i don't see why Snoop is on the track. I like most of Snoop's stuff, but i don't see why him or Ludacris are on the album. The chemistry just isn't anything special. Other artists would have sounded much better along side da 'Prince. Musically they sound 2 much like the other stuff on the radio. The sound of the music just isn't heavy enuff. I hate listening 2 music over the computer, so i'm thinkin' this is part of the reason i think this way...but i wanted so much more. FP is in the right place as an emcee, but these beats just don't do him justice. I want some straight up Hip-Hop...not this stuff. I like "Switch" better than both of these cuts. From what i've heard so far, i compare this album 2 Big Willie Style. I don't think it's anywhere near the level of Code Red or Willennium. Don't wig out, this is just my opinion. One a positive note, i love the way he freestyled "Girls Ain't Nothing But Trouble" over "Drop It Like It's Hot." I think sound of that beat is cool, but not really that good. FP fit right on top of that track bringing it 2 life like it waz his own. The freestyle waz very good 2. Very focused compared 2 other emcees/rappers. FP is back...i'm just hoping the rest of the album has beats that back him up better than what i've heard so far.

I'm kinda late...but Happy B-Day!!

I agree that alot of 2day's R-N-B is watered down. It's becoming alot like commercial Rap. I waz watching 106 + Park...and the commercial rap is even worse than the commercial rap of a few years ago. And now alot of the R-N-B trax getting played aren't even that good. But commercially, i still think R-N-B is doing better than Rap/Hip-Hop (cuz it really can't get any worse). I actually think Neo-soul is weaker now that what it waz in the 90's. The stuff by Kenny Lattimore, Amel, Erykah Badu, Spearhead, etc that came our recently isn't nearly as good as their stuff from the 90's. Most R-N-B is about love...which is a God-given thing, that like Him, is never changing. I don't see the topic of love ever really changing. Maybe being brought 2 people in a new way, but that's about it. Love is something everyone can relate 2 and i think that if u can relate 2 an R-N-B love song, than it's a good song providing the music is decent and the artist has a good voice. Some of the stuff i saw on 106 + Park the other day didn't touch me at all, and the skillz behind the song weren't anything that impressive...that's not good R-N-B. Everytime i hear Omarion's "O", i turn it up and listen 2 it everytime. 2 me, that's good R-N-B. Marques Houston's new single "All Because of You" is not only a dope song, but it's is EXACTLY what i'm feeling right now in life...that's what makes me love the song. Even if i wazn't down with him since i waz 11 years old, that song would be speaking 2 me right now.

There most likely isn't going 2 be a single released in the US. U'll have 2 get an import single probably.
-
It's a start...we gotta keep backin' the song tho' if we wanna make any noise. It dosen't look like it's gonna do it on it's own. It's hard 2 believe that's higher than "Black Suits Comin'"....that song actually got some decent airplay.

I think the album is great...i guess we'll have 2 see what the other O fans think.
-
Thanx 4 posting that!! Great pix!!

I don't like alot of dirty south Hip-Hop/Rap so would be part of the reason i don't like him. I do like OutKast, a lil' Goodie Mob, a lil' Nappy Roots, but that's about it.

'SWITCH' CD SINGLE RELEASE DATES
JumpinJack AJ replied to JumpinJack AJ's topic in Jazzy Jeff & Fresh Prince
I'll contact that one seller personally 2 see if they got the UK version yet. -
I've been looking around online for info on the "Switch" CD single. Apparently it waz released in the UK on the February 21st. Australia gets it March 14th. Neither of them have the tracklisting revealed yet.
