xzibit mentions Will in new song...
JumpinJack AJ replied to *mimi*'s topic in Jazzy Jeff & Fresh Prince
I remember liking more of his late 90's stuff. The production waz better and his subject matter waz more relavant. Alot of his newer stuff seems 2 have fallin' in2 a similar pattern of filler trax. Boring beats and unfocused, irrelevant lyrics. I haven't heard all of his stuff so i'm only going off what i have heard. I got this Man Vs. Machine album at a real cheap price and only listned 2 it once. I didn't really haven't anything on it that made me put it back in. -
Jay Z and Usher For Band Aid 20 USA? Following the massive Number 1 success of Band Aid 20's rerecording of ‘Do They Know It's Christmas?’ Xfm can report that a new version of the American equivalent, USA For Africa's ‘We Are The World’ is now being planned. The original US version 'We Are The World' was recorded by Quincy Jones in January 1985 and included Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Lionel Ritchie, Tina Turner and Cyndi Lauper. Now MTV reports that legendary TLC, Run DMC, Usher, Snoop Dogg and Outkast producer Jermaine Dupri is planning on re-recording the track, with a new contemporary line up and sound. "All new artists [will be on this version], it's the 20th anniversary of 'We Are the World’ Quincy Jones called me, he asked me to do it,” Dupri explained at the Grammy nominations earlier this week (December 7). “We're just gonna make it something extravagant. We gonna try to re-create, follow in the footsteps of those who made a big record before, like Michael [Jackson], Quincy and Lionel Richie." Dupri went on to explained than the new song was going to be retitled 'We Are The Future’ and he plans to record his version of the song on February 13 2005, the night of the Grammy Awards themselves. The plan is to take all the artists involved straight into A&M Recording Studios following the ceremony (the studios played host to the original session in 1985). As for who is being lined up to appear, Dupri only revealed a a few names saying, "Hopefully Usher will be there, Kanye [West], Jay-Z hopefully, all the bigwigs." He added that the new version would be markedly different from the Quincy Jones original, although he hoped it would strike a similar chord with the American public. In terms of the sound of the track, the producer intends to retain the original spirit and scope of the original, while updating the style. "Usually I didn't go for them sappy type of songs", he explained, “You hear them and be like, 'OK.' You know what it's for, but it ain't nothing I would ride around and listen to in my car. "But ‘We Are the World’ struck me as something. It was a big record, and the way they did it was huge because they played it around the world simultaneously. It just became one of them type of records. "It's difficult for us to duplicate what happened, but at least we gonna try to come close to it. The artists are the key to the whole situation. I hope the artists hear me and want to be a part of it." http://www.xfm.co.uk/Article.asp?id=57477

NEW EDITION - Re-Write The Memories Man, this song is amazing. It's one of the few songs that totally belongs on their album. Bad Boys standards when it came 2 production dissapointed me. But this song, along with a few others, keep that NE spirit strong on the album.

Dr. Suess waz a genious.

Xzibit waz a different emcee when he 1st came out. I liked maybe half of his stuff. It wazn't always my kinda music but i liked it. He's slowly changed in wayz that make my lose interest in his newer stuff. I think he's really funny on Pimp My Ride tho.' U see his real self acting all goofy and stuff instead of acting hard. -
BRANDY - Like It Was Yesterday I can totally relate 2 this song...i had 2 trade Tim 2 get the Australian version of the "Talk About Our Love" 2 get this b-side. The song talks about being part of a couple that waz simply met 2 be...but things changed around them and things fell apart. And even tho' all this time has passed, it seems like things feel apart just yesterday and that it would be easy 2 pick up right where they left off becuz the love waz that perfect.

What r u talking about!?! Dr. Suess could seriously beat most of the rappers ever...seriously. Fresh Prince has always credited Dr. Suess as an inspiration.

Don't newer fans hear old trax like this and realized that even mid-90's G-Funk is 100 times better than this current stuff. There's no excuse 4 so-called rap fans 2 not demand stuff better than the light weight, non-lyrical trash on the radio. Right now i'm listening 2 the LL COOL J "G.O.A.T. Sneak Peak MegaMix"

WARREN G + NATE DOGG - Regulate U gotta love it when stuff like this gets played on the radio.

Wes isn't an old skool fan as in "Girls Ain't Nothing But Trouble"...he's an old skool as in getting in2 JJ+FP thru' Big Willie Style, quickly skooling himself on past music, and being one of the main people in the Will Smith/JJ+FP fan community.

what are you looking forward to?
JumpinJack AJ replied to Hero1's topic in Jazzy Jeff & Fresh Prince
bagotrasho...that's what your opinions are 2 me...a bag o' trash. What's your deal?? First u post a bunch of posts with stupid topics, and now u are knocking FP's current projects. -
2 all the "new" people, Wes is an old skool Jazzy Jeff + Fresh Prince fan who had a great (now defunt) website and totally disappeared off the face of the web a year and a half ago.
-
Welcome back!! It's been a long tyme!! It's great seeing u back...just in tyme 4 JJ+FP's return on the next Will Smith album. Wes is back in da house!!! :switch:

I waz thinkin' the same thing...but u can't expect Eminem 2 be that intellegent. After all, wrote and then recorded "Just Lose It." All of Vanillia Ice's music is better than that track.

I didn't think "Guys Ain't Nothing But Trouble" waz bad at all.

I waz gonna suggest ebay for movie posters...but none of them are black and white.

2 PAC & JADA - PARENTS JUST DON'T UNDERSTAND
JumpinJack AJ replied to fan 4ever's topic in Jazzy Jeff & Fresh Prince
Obviously...how many songs do u know word 4 word by artists u don't like. Remember, 2Pac came up in the late 80's and mostly early 90's as a roadie for Digital Underground and then joined the group. 2Pac waz down with that whole golden age of Hip-Hop...YEARS b4 the The Chronic influended nearly every artist 2 change their game and make all new artists sell out themselves. -
Yeah, i really like club music. These days it only exists in remixes of popular songs. Other than that, it's all underground. The 90's were great for mainstream club music. I really miss that.

everything but the girl remix album
JumpinJack AJ replied to Hero1's topic in Jazzy Jeff & Fresh Prince
That's cool, i'll have 2 pick that up. Here in the US, Everything But The Girl were basically one-hit wonders. Their mid-90's song "Missing You" or whatever is dope. I love that song...they had some minor hits after that, but they were pretty much wiped off the face of the earth according 2 the US after that. -
Good luck!! There aren't really many FP/WS posters. Your best bet is 2 check out teen aimed magazines from 97-99. And most of those will be cheezy candids w/ logos all over them.

ANY PERFORMERS IN THE HOUSE?!?
JumpinJack AJ replied to JumpinJack AJ's topic in Caught in the Middle
I have a friend who is fine in front of a crowd but she can't sing in front of people. We kinda work as a team kinda often so i'm gonna try 2 get her in2 a show where she's gonna sing. I used 2 never singer, but i've learned alot and there are alot of things i can sing now and i do it all the time. She has a better voice than i have and she's scared 2 death. -
And while we are on the topic...thank u so much 4 doing that. U always seem 2 bring the newz that nobody else brings and i think i speak 4 all of us when i say it's greatly appreciated!!

In the sense that they were put out there 2 making them look bad and draw attention 2 it...yes.

Here's and article from AOL which talkes about Kanye's amazing 10 nominations (that should shut him out about the AMA's). It also talks about the other artists nominated and a list of all the main categories. It looks like they chose some great artists overall. The Hip-Hop and categories are great. The only ones i'd like 2 kick out are Nelly and Jay-Z. -------------------------- Kanye West Receives 10 Grammy Nominations LOS ANGELES (Dec. 7) - Producer-turned-rapper Kanye West collected a leading 10 Grammy nominations Tuesday, including album of the year, for his innovative debut, "The College Dropout." West's disc stood out in the rap landscape because of its atypical prose. It avoided the usual plotlines about sex, money and violence and touched on everything from religion to his own insecurities. The performer, who isn't afraid to sing his own praises after claiming he was "definitely robbed" when he picked up no trophies at the American Music Awards, also had a nomination for best new artist and shared a songwriting bid for song of the year with his hit "Jesus Walks." "Ten nominations, that's amazing," said West, a nominations presenter at the Music Box Theatre in Hollywood. "That's like a perfect score. I'm at a loss for words." Usher and Alicia Keys, who collaborated on the hit "My Boo," followed West with eight nominations each, including album of the year for Keys' "The Diary of Alicia Keys" and Usher's "Confessions." Ray Charles, whose posthumous duets album "Genius Loves Company," became the biggest selling album of his long career, had seven nominations including album of the year and record of the year for "Here We Go Again," sung with Norah Jones. Green Day garnered six bids for its hard-driving rock-punk album "American Idiot" which satirized culture, politics and apathy. The group was nominated for record of the year and best rock song for the title track and best rock album. Besides Charles' and Jones' "Here We Go Again" and Green Day's "American Idiot," other record of the year contenders were the mellow love song "Heaven" by Los Lonely Boys, the jumpy party song "Let's Get It Started" by the Black Eyed Peas and Usher's massive hit "Yeah!" The best new artist class spanned soul, rap, country and pop, with nominees Gretchen Wilson, country's self-proclaimed "Redneck Woman," rapper West, young soul sensation Joss Stone, Los Lonely Boys and Maroon 5. Bids for song of the year - which goes to songwriters - went to "Daughters," written and recorded by John Mayer, "If I Ain't Got You," written and recorded by Keys, "Jesus Walks," recorded by West, "Live Like You Were Dying," recorded by Tim McGraw, and "The Reason," recorded by Hoobastank. Old-school performers filled the best R&B album category with Anita Baker's "My Everything," Al Green's "I Can't Stop," and Prince's comeback "Musicology" competing against "The Diary of Alicia Keys" and Jill Scott's "Beautifully Human: Words & Sound Vol. 2." Loretta Lynn had five nominations in the country field including best country album for "Van Lear Rose" (which was produced by the White Stripes' Jack White) and two bids for best country song for "Miss Being Mrs." and "Portland Oregon." Her album competition includes McGraw for "Live Like You Were Dying," Tift Merritt for "Tambourine," Keith Urban's "Be Here" and Wilson for "Here for the Party." Half of West's 10 nominations were in the rap field, including best rap album. He competes against himself in the best rap-sung collaboration with the songs "Slow Jamz," performed along with Twista and actor-singer Jamie Foxx, and "All Falls Down," which he performed with Syleena Johnson. In the rock category, Green Day's "American Idiot" was named in the best rock album competition along with Hoobastank's "The Reason," The Killers' "Hot Fuss," Velvet Revolver's "Contraband" and "The Deliveryman" by Elvis Costello & The Imposters. Beach Boys frontman Brian Wilson's long-gestating album "Smile," which was recently released after years spent on the shelf following his emotional and mental problems, collected a bid for best pop vocal album. It competes with "Afterglow" by Sarah McLachlan, "Feels Like Home" by Jones, "Mind, Body & Soul" by Stone, and "Genius Loves Company" by Charles. Jones and Stone compete against each other again for female pop vocal performance, with Stone's "You Had Me" and Jones' "Sunrise" up against "Oceania" by Bjork, No Doubt singer Gwen Stefani's solo single "What You Waiting For?" and Sheryl Crow's cover of the Cat Stevens song "The First Cut is the Deepest." In the male pop vocal competition, Costello's cover of the Cole Porter song "Let's Misbehave" from the movie "De-Lovely" was picked along with the inspirational song "You Raise Me Up" by Josh Groban, John Mayer's "Daughters," Prince's "Cinnamon Girl" and Seal's "Love's Divine." Posthumous was the operative word in the best pop collaboration with vocals category. Charles competes against himself with the duets "Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word" with Elton John and "Here We Go Again" with Jones. Also nominated was a cover of Bob Marley's "Redemption Song" by Johnny Cash and The Clash's Joe Strummer, both deceased. The other two bids went to veterans: Stevie Wonder and Take 6 for "Moon River," and Paul McCartney and Eric Clapton for "Something" from the album "Concert for George," a tribute to the late George Harrison. The Grammys will be given out Feb. 13 in Los Angeles during a broadcast on CBS.
