Those of u who picked up the Sharktale soundtrack will remember Fan_3 for her crazy, uptempo, energy-infested Hip-Hop joint "Digits." It kinda has that Young MC/Tone Loc meets Monie Love/Left Eye old skool/new skool feel. Fan_3 just dropped her 1st single "Geek Love." After hearing "Digits," i didn't hesitate 2 pick it up (besides, it waz only $1.88). The song is hilarious. The production has this steady tempo that kinda reminds me of mid-90's A Tribe Called Quest/Pharsyde type stuff mixed in with a dash of other musical genres. There's a DJ cutting and then it'll jump 2 a harmonica riff. And her lyrics are hilarious. She has got 2 be influenced by Fresh Prince, Slick Rick, Biz Markie, Young MC, and Monie Love type artist fromt he days of old. The song is about her being in love with a nerdy guy from her skool. Here's some of the lyrics that made me laff... ..."the first boy i've known to get straight A's and appear in everyone of my school plays Motzar blastin from his Volvo and there's tape on his glasses, in charge of hall passes"... CHORUS I wouldn't call him fly / suspenders and a bow tie i wouldn't call him the man / but he can still hang with Fan ..."so even tho' you see his socks when he walks and his pants are so tight, circulations cut off i think i should give him a chance and ignore his metal braces and tight pants"... ..."my friends just don't understand cuz he's not the man they try to act hard now, pretend like they floss we'll see who's laughin' when my geek is their boss" On the single, it has a bio and video by Fan_3. The BIO totally shows u who she is. It starts off with her saying "A white rapper from the Valley...who wouldn't wanna sign that?!" The same comedy and sarcasm in her music is in this inverview. She talks about being the 1st rapper 2 come totally from a suburban area, be influenced from Hip-Hop, and totally be herself. She talks about how Rap isn't an under thing anymore and that she is a product of that. She talks about being 16, being in skool and how she expects the album 2 do well cuz she's offering something different. She also says her name "Fan_3" comes from being a fan of groups that happens 2 always be trios, like TLC, Salt-N-Pepa, Destiny's Child, Blink 182, etc. Others may clown me 4 saying this, but Fan_3 is one of the most fun and honest Hip-Hop artists 2 come out in years. Sure, she's a 16 year old white girl from the suburbs, but most commercial artists aren't offering any food 4 thought or honestly in their music. Anyone interested in non-explict Hip-Hop and comidic lyrics, check out Fan_3. FAN_3 - Geek Love

Who is gonna take the opinions of people who post on a site called "dirt.com" that serious. Either way, they sound like haters who are talking with no basis behind it. I have the album and all their solo albums. I know their voices and this is the 1st album in awhile where u can hear each of them equally. Overseas, the single (which is 2 come out in a week or 2) has 2 remixes (club remixes i think) and a track not on the album (which isn't "Game Over").

Yeah, 2Pac and Jada never got 2gether like that. They were just the best of friends. I'm assuming that's how FP and 2Pac knew each other...if not thru' her, just from the same circle of friends and business potnas in Hip-Hop. I'll see if i can look thru' my 1997 FP interviews where he briefly talks about his opinion on 2Pac's music and their friendship. I know i've posted this b4 in the past.

Thanx 4 sharing that!! I really need 2 pick up his new album. Talib Kweli is one of the best 'new' things 2 come 2 Hip-Hop in years. It's nice seeing that the man in this chat and the man in the music are the same...down 2 earth, intellegent, and positive. He could teach a few guys a thing or 2 (mostly guys who name them selves after candy and money). Anybody wanna spend 50 cents on a pack of M&Ms??

Great R-N-B album!! I waz scared after Survivor. DC broke out in 1997 on the Men In Black soundtrack and going on 2 do big things with both versions of their single "No No No." 1999's The Writings On The Wall featured and amazing soulful sound that waz flawless and huge success. After the line-up change and their new-found megastar status, they dropped Survivor which waz a good albu, but 2 slick and 2 commercial. After a long break and solo albums, this album more than meets the hype. "Lose My Breath" is the first single with the crazy new sound brought 2 u by the Darkchild camp. "Soldier," the 2nd single is a mid-tempo faux track about the girls wanting a guy tied 2 the streets. Sorry, but i don't feel this track, the wack appearances by T.I. + Lil' Wayne. DC is some glamorous girls from Texas...how they gonna wanna guy who is street?!?! TLC, Salt-N-Pepa, Xscape...maybe...but not Destiny's Child. Anyways, after that, the album get really good again. "Cater 2 U" is a sweet-sounding R-N-B track thru' and thru.' "T-Shirt" is a sexy slow tempo R-N-B track produced by the one and only former A Touch Of Jazz producers Andre + Vidal!!! "Is She The Reason" is a steady-tempoed R-N-B/soul meets Hip-Hop track. Just has that timeless sound 2 it that reminds me of alot of mid-90's R-N-B production. "Girl" is a sunny-feeling R-N-B/Soul jam. One of those song uplifting 4 the females. "Bad Habit" is one of those relationship songs. Anyone in a relationship should be able 2 relate 2 the lyrics. Another great song. "If" has a retro-girl-group sound 2 it. Kinda has has a feeling from all recent eras in R-N-B from the '60 up thru' now. "Free" has another feel-good, sunny kinda feel 2 it. It's the kind song i like 2 listen 2 on a sunny Sunday in the car. "Through With Love" has this great piano arrangment adding some tension 2 the song which totally fits the love-gone-wrong lyrics. Very cool sound. The last track on this kinda short album is "Love" which is another great R-N-B song. If u are an R-N-B fan or DC fan who hasn't gotten this album yet, do yourself a favor and do it!! So many R-N-B albums these days fall in2 the weak production and try 2 mix Hip-Hop in2 the music 2 much. This is a pure R-N-B album thru' and thru' and each song fits 2gether on it like a puzzle. This album is their best work since 1999 and is better than their solo albums. Since we've gotten 2 hear them on their solo albums, each member comes across with their own personality on this one. They each have equal shine on the album and they all wrote most of the material on it. Off the topic of the album, on the "Loose My Breath" CD single, u can get the song "Game Over" as a b-side. I can't believe they left this song off the album, it would fit right in. If u like the album, get this single 4 the b-side. Also, Wal-Mart has a Destiny's Child DVD priced at about $6 which has 5 music videos on it. Survivor, Emotions, and a solo video from each of them.

This week i picked up the solo album from Shock-G, the mastermind behind Digital Underground, and the man that put 2Pac in the limelight (and gave him some of his dopest beats...Trapped, I Get Around, So Many Tears, F*** The World, etc). For those of u who never heard of Digital Underground, i urge u 2 check them out. If u are a JJ+FP fan or a Hip-Hop fan sick of crap and looking 4 an alternative...check them out. They have 2 different Greatest Hits albums (featuring hits like The Humpty Dance, Kiss You Back, Dowhatchalike, Oregino Flow). Their style is kinda P-Funk meets Hip-Hop meets whatever else they throw in the mix. There's introspective rhymes and comedy sprinkled thru' out all of their music. Anyways, this post is about Shock G's new album which should please all fans looking 4 an alternative 2 the trash on the radio, and DU fans who might be hesitating 2 pick up this album. This album mixes stuff u'd expect from DU albums but also has tons of totally new flava. Shock G holds nothing back on this album. The album opens up with "Keep It Beautiful" which is a track about how Rap music's state is embarassing and talentless. The beat is slow and filled with knowelege u'd expect from KRS-One. He spits rhymes like "so many tryna be 'Pac but only cop the thug side" and "u really wanna be like "Pac, read shorty, read" and "forgive me but i'm gonna be the only rapper still wearin' a smile." "Cherry Flava'd E-mail" as this amazing steady bumpin' beats with this ill guitar. Production dosen't get any better than this....the beat just moves u. "Weesom Hustlas" is a bouncy beat with the DU crew...it's features Shock's alter-ego Humpty Hump and Money B. "Holmedown Up" as this crazy freestyle over some jazzy vibes u'd expect on a Jazzy Jeff album. This is a crazy love joint with a scattered beat once it starts up. "We're All Killaz" has this beat that's is just undiscribable. Basic beat but with weird percussion instrument. Shock's lyrics are slightly comical, unfocused ?uestions that mostly don't have answers. "Your Sun Iz A Pimp" is another track where Shock lets Humpty Hump take over the mic. Overall, the album covers all kinda ground. Basic Hip-Hop, thru' retro-feeling old skool influenced Hip-Hop, DU P-funkish stuff, slow stuff, fast stuff...everything. It also has some DJ-heavy trax featuring cuts by Q-Bert and D-Sharp. People always talk about beats being dope...but Shock keeps the beats dope and musical. The album is loaded with 17 trax and even tho' it dose have explict lyrics, it's really tastefull 4 the most part. Not 2 much cussing throughout it. The insert is filled with the same cartoons and comedy u find in the DU albums. There's something new 4 the Hip-Hop heads 2 check out. I found my copy of the album at Borders for $15.99.

There's alot more rappers that wanna be like FP...but they'll never admit it. What they don't know is that if u aren't a postive person, u'll never be respected by others. If your music is phoney garbage with no real lyrics, Hip-Hop heads will never respect them and their commerical fame will die away with the quickness. Another thing, u can't start a REAL career in acting unless u have skills. Since most artists are phoney and don't care about music and culture, they'll fail.

FP and 2Pac were friends...i don't find that weird. Of course, i wouldn't really consider 2Pac a Deathrow artist. So many people didn't get in2 him until All Eyez On Me...so all these people look at him like a Deathrow artist, but he waz only on the label a matter of months. I can't imagin Petey Pablo hanging out with Deathrow...that just seems weird 2 me. MC Hammer on Deathrow waz probably the biggest surprise 2 me. Of course he got off the label with the quickness.

Mine is Code Red. When it 1st came out, it's the only thing i listened 2 for a loooooong time. Then of course we had 2 wait 4ever 4 a new album 2 come out....so i listened 2 it pretty often in between albums. Homebase, Big Willie Style, and Willennium are next in line.

Yeah, one of the things i loved about old skool Hip-Hop waz fantasy Hip-Hop and story-telling stuff. People like FP and Slick Rick still write stuff like that but the majority dosen't. If they attempt 2, it's usually about stupid stuff. Awhile ago, i just came 2 the conclusion that u can't expect anything from current new skool talent. If u want quality music anything like old skool...don't look 4 it by the artists that are on top of the charts.

Nope, they wanted 2 do one, but due 2 copyright issues, they couldn't. That's okay tho...cuz the song did very well as a single and just being on the radio. It still would have been hilarious tho.' We used 2 think their waz one that waz never released, but then Ready Rock C confirmed that they never did a video 4 the song.

I don't think of him as highly as alot of commercial rap fans do, but i do think he's one of the better artists 2 come out in recent years. However, after hearing about him charging a church lots of money 2 do a show which ended up really crappy, THEN him whining about not winning an award...that's just pathetic.

"Just Cruisin'" isn't a JJ+FP song. FP on the lyrics, Trackmasters on the beat. Dope song all around. I've always wanted 2 know if Jazzy Jeff did the scratches 4 the video version of the song tho.'

Well, it depends on what u are trying 2 get across. If u wanna talk about comedy and story-telling type lyrics, there's trax like Girls Ain't Nothing But Trouble, Parents Just Don't Understand, Nightmare On My Street, I Think I Can Beat Mike Tyson, The Girlie Had A Mustache, Everything That Glitters, Who Stole My Car, U Saw My Blinker, Code Red. If u wanna display their overall style, I Wanna Rock, Pump Me Up, and half of the trax on He's The DJ, I'm The Rapper. If u wanna get in2 deeper stuff, there's Shadow Dreams and The Rain. Another thing u might wanna consider is just dubbing a simple medley covering all of their styles.

When emcees get big or want their stuff 2 be more-respected by people outside of Hip-Hop, they tend 2 use their regular name. Queen Latifah's new album is titled "The Dana Owens Album" and she definitly had other audiences in mind when she recorded it. LL Cool J is taking FP's personal advice that using his real name in films will make him more accessable and taken more seriously in the world of film. With Deliver Us From Eva, he waz credited as LL Cool J aka James Todd Smith. Since then, his acting has taken a turn 4 the better. His new clothing line is called Todd Smith. I don't think a name is that big of a deal...but i'd still like 2 see "Fresh Prince" on an album cover again.

Ahhh...no more silly topics. JJ+FP's music isn't kiddie stuff at all. FP's current stuff is often more "kiddie" than JJ+FP's stuff. And Fresh Prince isn't really an old skool name, it's his Hip-Hop name. All this polls and posts are killing me.
