  1. I heard this on the radio earlier and it just struck me in an ill way. I've never been a huge fan of his music, but i definitly like a few of his singles and followed his career. He waz an amazing persona. I always admired his unpredicability and comical genious. He waz one crazy person and one of the most free people i've ever seen. Just 2 days ago i waz listening 2 a track him and Jon B did and waz laffing as his awful singing on the song...ha ha. One thing is for sure, he is definitly a stand-out contributer 2 Hip-Hop. Props 2 ODB and my prayers go out 2 his family and friends. Here's an article from AOL... Rapper O.D.B. Collapses, Dies in Studio Rap Artist Complained of Chest Pain NEW YORK (Nov. 13) - The rap artist O.D.B., whose utterly unique rhymes, wild lifestyle and incessant legal troubles made him one of the most vivid characters in hip-hop, collapsed and died inside a recording studio Saturday. He was 35. Getty Images Rapper Ol' Dirty Bastard, aka O.D.B and Dirt McGirt -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- AOL Search: More About O.D.B. O.D.B. had complained of chest pains before collapsing at the Manhattan studio, and was dead by the time paramedics arrived, said Gabe Tesoriero, a spokesman for O.D.B.'s record label, Roc-a-Fella. The cause of death was not immediately clear, but O.D.B. had recently finished a prison sentence for drug possession and escaping a rehab clinic. He would have turned 36 on Monday. O.D.B. -- also known as Ol' Dirty Bastard, Dirt McGirt, Big Baby Jesus or his legal name of Russell Jones -- was a founding member of the seminal rap group the Wu-Tang Clan in the early 1990s. With his unorthodox delivery -- alternately slurred, hyper and nonsensical -- O.D.B. stood out even in the nine-man Clan, which featured such future stars as Method Man, RZA and Ghostface Killah. The Wu-Tang blueprint was for each member to pursue solo projects, and O.D.B.'s were among the best. He released hit singles such as "Shimmy Shimmy Ya" and "Got Your Money," and appeared on remixes with artists like Mariah Carey. "There's nobody like him in the game," RZA told The Associated Press in an April interview, when asked if O.D.B. could resume his career after prison. "He's got a lot of problems he's got to iron out, of course, but as far as a one-of-a-kind person, a one-of-a-kind artist, he's one of a generation, one of a lifetime. He's a very rare commodity." But as his fame increased, so did his erratic behavior, and fans came to expect the unexpected from O.D.B. When MTV News followed him around at the height of his popularity, he took the camera crew and several of his kids (he was said to have more than a dozen, by numerous mothers) to the welfare office - in a limousine - to get an allotment of food stamps. And he received them. In February 1998, he crashed the stage at the Grammy Awards and hijacked a microphone from singer Shawn Colvin as she accepted an award, apparently upset over losing the best rap album Grammy to P. Diddy (then known as Puff Daddy). He complained that he spent a lot of money for new clothes because he thought he was going to win. The rapper later apologized. Over the years, he was wounded in shootings and arrested on a veritable laundry list of charges, including menacing security officers, illegally possessing body armor, driving with a suspended license, shoplifting and threatening a former girlfriend. In 2000, after escaping a court-ordered stint in a California rehabilitation center, authorities searched for him for a month. He was finally arrested in Philadelphia - three days after performing in a New York City concert with his Wu-Tang clique. He was sentenced in 2001 to two to four years in prison for drug possession, plus two concurrent years for escaping from the clinic. He was released in 2003 and immediately signed with Roc-a-Fella. He heralded his return with a news conference alongside singer Carey - pop fans may know him best for his memorable cameo on her hit "Fantasy," featuring rhymes like "me and Mariah, go back like babies with pacifiers." Tesoriero said O.D.B. had been working on his comeback album for more than a year and was almost finished. "Russell inspired all of us with his spirit, wit, and tremendous heart," Roc-A-Fella founder Damon Dash said in a statement. "The world has lost a great talent, but we mourn the loss of our friend." His mother, Cherry Jones, said she received the news of her son's death in a phone call, which she called "every mother's worst dream." "To the public he was known as Old Dirty Bastard, but to me he was known as Rusty. The kindest most generous soul on earth," her statement said. "Russell was more than a rapper, he was a loving father, brother, uncle, and most of all, son." 11/13/04 21:22 EST
  2. If u make alot of music that has no substance, when u do attempt 2 make a track with meaning...it just comes off as phoney. U can't take anyone 2 serious if all they talk about is drugs, money, and guns. When i'm expressing my opinion, i usually say when i haven't heard alot of an artists music. But i try 2 give everything a chance. I'll listen 2 my friends' music and stuff on the radio or internet. Of course, u hear so much that sucks, u don't have the desire 2 give them anymore of a change. I know singles don't always display an artists ability properly. So when i say somebody like 50 is wack, its' cuz i've listened some of his stuff....not cuz i heard a song or 2 and made up my mind.
  3. I've always liked "Never let the weather determine the man."
  4. I've been waiting 8 long years for this new album and i honestly havn't listened 2 it half as much as i expected 2. The guys were just really screwed when it came 2 promotion. I don't know why they settled for it and why people like Jimmy Jam + Terry Lewis slacked like they did.
  5. Materialistic lyrics are trash. WAKE UP!! Talking about diamonds is not keeping it real...diamonds have nothing 2 do with life. Music about jewerly is disposable...it's flash-in-the-pan crap. Jay, Nelly, and 50 can bling out all they want, but if they think that the cloths they wear and the diamonds they own are something that millions wanna hear about song after song and that it's meaningful 2 anyone, they are fooling themselves. When FP dose a song like "Holla Back" it's cool cuz it's funny and it's something most of us guys can relate 2. When Jay-Z talks about furcoats and stupid stuff like that, i'm not gonna wanna waste any braincells on stupid stuff like that. Hip-Hop is not about diamonds...when people celebrate Hip-Hop, they aren't celebrating G-Unit or Cash Money...they are celebrating a lifestyle and experiences that people from Fresh Prince to 2Pac to Scarface to LL Cool J are puttin' in their music.
  6. I think Jive would have done better musically, but i'm not sure about promotion. Jive wouldn't have treated FP as a Hollywood megastar recording music...they would have treated him as an emcee. They wouldn't try 2 control the finished product of the album as much as Columbia. Columbia may have changed his image 4 the worst...but they did back him properly for BWS. Jive is good about treating a pop artist like a pop artist, a Hip-Hop artist like a Hip-Hop artist, and R-N-B artist like and R-N-B artist, and so on. They never turned in2 a pop label, they just signed on some of the biggest names in pop music....how u gonna dog 'em 4 that, that's called smart business.
  7. I'm gonna break down it down 4 each album...one for what could have been a really cool video and another for what could have been a really funny video... ROCK THE HOUSE cool video - The Magnificent funny video - Don't Even Try It HE'S THE DJ, I'M THE RAPPER cool video - Here We Go Again funny video - Nightmare On My Street AND IN THIS CORNER... cool video - Numero Uno funny video (THREE WAY TIE) Then She Bit Me, Who Stole My Car, Men of Your Dreams HOMEBASE cool video - I'm All That funny video - U Saw My Blinker CODE RED cool video - Somethin' Like Dis (or Just Kickin' It) funny video - Code Red BIG WILLIE STYLE cool video - Don't Say Nothin' funny video - Candy WILLENNIUM cool video - (THREE WAY TIE) Potnas, The Rain, Who Am I (time-sensitive futuristic video would have been fly) funny video - Willennium Interlude THE MAGNIFICENT cool video - 4 Da Love of Da Game funny video - Know Ur Hood BORN TO REIGN cool video - Act Like U Know funny video - I Gotta Go Home (imagin sped up footage of FP tryna be good and ditch a female for over 3 minutes...ha ha)
  8. Is it being released in different places or just in the US? If it's only released in the US, u better make sure u'll be able 2 play it through the region coding. I can't stand pre-ordering stuff. With shipping u end up paying more AND u gotta wait for it 2 come 2 your house. Of course, if it's not being released where u live, that's the best way 2 go. I can't wait 2 have the serious in crystal clear DVD format...no commercials or anything. That'll just be heaven!!
  9. I can't wait 4 it drop!! Here in the US, that's the usual price for DVD sets. Circuit City always has there new releases on sale the week stuff drops. They prices are also very reasonable...sometimes cheaper. U can go wrong if u go there when it comes out. Keep in mind that if we all go out and get it soon after it comes out, the other seasons will follow quicker and it'll raise the chance of them being released in other parts of the world.
  10. I saw Ray 2nite. It's simply brilliant...AMAZING!! This is one of the best movies in recent years and one of the top best autobiography movies ever made (yes...better than ALI). Jamie Foxx totally broke out in this movie. He's been making moves for years, but this movie establishes him as one of the greatest talents in film (makes u totally forget about Wanda...ha ha). Jamie and this movie better than an Oscar. For those of u who havn't seen it....if u have any interest in Ray Charles and/or old music, check the movie!! I'd like 2 hear the opinions of others who have seen this movie already.
  11. Great!! I waz hoping it would come out just in time for Christmas.
  12. Regular updates, lyrics, a decent selection of photos, complete discography, links that are worth checkin' out, and over all, a proper over-all style. Other sites seem 2 be 2 simple or aimed at a commerical audience. His current site should concentrate strictly on music and Hip-Hop...unless his camp is gonna cover all bases with the site...then seperate them all properly. I'm not picky...i just know what i want. :guru:
  13. FP dosen't need collabos loading down his album...his style and talent may seem pretty basic 2 some...but that's really not the case, cuz only certain artists really blend with him. Working with people like Petey Pablo is just so forced that it dosen't makes sense. He dosen't have any talent in the 1st place. Since FP has pretty much total control on this album, the final tracklisting should be interesting.
  14. I like them both equally. I like that Daphne stepped in a very popular TV show and made the character her own instead of trying 2 act like the previous actress with that part. I think Daphne had a much motherly, wiser edge 2 her spin on the character. Janet waz funnier tho.'
  15. I'm wit u on that. Maybe they can release a promo version of the album with "Anti-Untalented Co-Star" versions of those songs that only feature FP on the mic. :kekeke:
  16. JJ+FP - Code Red DE LA SOUL - AOI: Bionix LL COOL J - Mr. Smith THE ROOTS - Do You Want More KRS-ONE - I Got Next PUBLIC ENEMY - He Got Game HEAVY D - Waterbed Hev RUN-DMC - Down With The King These are all newer albums from classic artists, but if i waz stuck with only one of their albums, i think the newer stuff would hold over longer with me. After all, in most cases i owned the older albums longer and have heard them 100 times more.
  17. I think what he's trying 2 say in that statement is that there won't be many songs like "Miami" which are overly commercial and aimed just 4 airplay. FP would never go gangsta...y'all should know better.
  18. Yeah, definitly no need 2 do any more Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. But u can expect 2 hear some more DJ Jazzy Jeff + Fresh Prince stuff on the next 'Will Smith' album.
  19. This has already been posted...but THANX!
  20. Go on bigted...i feel u on most of that.
  21. I don't have their greatest hits album but i've heard everything on it. It's a nice walk down Hip-Hop history with their hits and singles. I did get the De La Mixtape awhile back. I wish there wazn't any of the album music, but it's still a good compilation. The remixes and non-album trax are the reason i got it. I love that track they did with DJ Honda which is on it. My friend and i use 2 listen 2 that album back in the day but i never heard that song. The remix of "Stakes Is High" and electronica/club mix of "Me, Myself, And I" are really good 2. Smart investment in good music.
  22. Yeah, that album isn't bad. I remember liking Ooh La La, My Soul, Stick 'Em, Can U Dig It, Homeboy, and the single version/radio version of C U When U Get There. I also have the "C U When U Get There" CD single w/ remixes.
  23. Lloyd Banks is deemed the lryical one of G-Unit. That statement sounds like on oximoron 2 me. I think the beat is okay...tuning out the rap dose make it better.
