1. I agree with what u had 2 say TopDawg...the industry is full of studio gangstas. They act all hard when they are in front of a mic, but they are totally different in person. NWA is what i would consider actual "gangsta rap"...and not many other artists deserve 2 be included in that genre. NWA waz hardcore Hip-Hop talking about real life and their enviornment. The difference is, they were really around it and calling for a change. These other fools are just talking about drugs and violence cuz they think it's cool. They hardly know what they are talking about and they do it just 2 flaunt it...not cuz they are calling 4 change or 2 stress an idea. We can also mention that there is a difference between selling drugs 2 get by and selling drugs 2 be rich. Let me take a line from The Italian Job and say do what u do 2 enrich life...not 2 define it. When 2Pac talked about the negative aspects of life, he waz bringing it 2 people's attention calling 4 change or saying this is what people gotta do 2 get by. These new guys just talk trash with on substance 2 it. People who listen 2 that music aren't getting anything out of the music but phoney idols and negative vibes.
2. Man, Eminem's music is the perfect personification downward spiral of quality ever in Hip-Hop. It's kinda like a flushing toilet, however, i wouldn't throw his current stuff in the toilet (it may offend my toilet). He came out so ill....but now he makes me ill. He once said that he often chooses his 1st single as the song on his album that annoyes the crap out of him the most...well, he'll be annoying many people with this one. I just think it's funny that he dissed MC Hammer for his late-80's party-pop style...and now he's doing the same thing...except he sucks at it. He needs 2 run back 2 Dr. Dre fast cuz running to a kindergarden class 2 producer your 1st single is a stupid move.
3. Brand Nubian "Everything Is Everything" album from 1994...back when Hip-Hop waz solid and no so hard 2 come across.
4. I don't see what's so creepy about the R. Kelly comment. Everybody has done at least one stupid thing in their life. R. Kelly is a celebrity and happens 2 have it on tape (if that's him) so it's gonna get lot of attention. There's people who do worse things everyday but since they aren't celebrities, we don't care. People wanna work with R. Kelly cuz he's a musical genious as a singer, songwriter, and producer...why is that hard 2 see. People work with him cuz he's a talented entertainer...not cuz of the controversy.
5. Oh yeah...and Shawn Stockman wrote and produced for Tatyana Ali for her 1998 album Kiss The Sky also featuring production by A Touch of Jazz and a remix cameo by Fresh Prince.
6. In more recent trax, FP mentions Charlie Mack on "Miami" and the Willennium "Interlude." They also refer 2 him on those Big Willie Style interludes. Within the last month there's been a post or 2 about Charlie Mack. He's FP's bodyguard and bizness potna from way back in the day who is currently back in Philly taking care of his family and community.
7. No biggie, those other ones posted above are great. If there's any chance your versions would be better, by all means, feel free 2 post your own. :music:
8. Brand Nubian - Always Mine (i love this joint...i can relate 2 this one all 2 well) p.s. Tim, do u know what song they sampled 4 this track?!? I know u are good at finding the originals...let me know if u know what song they sampled cuz i wanna hear it. Props 2 Brand Nubian...they believe in this crazy idea of making songs that are about something. And each song has it's own topic so lyrically it dosen't sound like the same song the whole way thru' the album. Another good step 4 real Hip-Hop.
9. When u read or hear an interview from FP, LL, Chuck D, KRS-One, MC Lyte, Queen Latifah, etc, u can see that the person on wax is the same person in real life. Hip-Hop is based on being true 2 yourself and being original. It's sad 2 hear an interview by an entertainer and their personality in person is nothing like how they are in their music. That's fake...that's not Hip-Hop. Nearly evey commerical rapper out there is phoney and usually just being a ignorant individual comes along with that territory. I've seen interviews with Nelly and other popular cats. Those guys are just dumb...period.
10. Well, the post wazn't funny at all...until the posting of the bunny with a pancake on it's head...that's this posts only salvagable quality.
11. Have y'all seen the commercial for the SharkTale soundtrack? It has parts of the movie showing thru' out most of it...including the part where Oscar (FP) is sining u can't touch this and doing the chinese typewriter!!! Anyways, it mentions the biggest players on the album (Christina, Missy, Mary, FP, etc and it shows short clips of them in the studio. It then mentions that it's out in stores. Check 4 it!! I saw it on MTV.
12. I don't know what y'all mean by simple. Much of FP's style is taken from his early days where rhymes were more straight forward...but on that note, who is actually complex...not anybody who has an album on the top of the charts. Emcee's like J-Live and Talib Kweli have more complex rhymes...but they aren't commercial emcees.
13. Hmmmm...i don't know how i feel about that. Interscope hasn't really made noise since the early/mid 90's. Since then alot of artists left them and they havn't generated much success think, with the exception of who they distribute. Interscope used 2 distribute Overbrook before. Then they fell thru' which screwed up the release of MC Lyte and Tra-Knox. I hope FP knows what he's doing. I just hope "Got To Be Real" isn't on the album and that this is a mix-up in info or that they are recording a different track 2gether. Since "Got To Be Real" is an MJB song featuring FP, maybe Mary returned the favor by singing on one of of his album trax (which would be dope!). Big ?uestion....WHAT IS THE SOURCE OF THIS INFO!??!?!
14. Thanx 4 posting that. No new newz in there...but it's another confirmation that we have someting 2 look forward 2.
15. Last Friday there waz a tornados touching down in my area. I waz driving 2 the next city in the middle of it. My friends were telling me 2 stay home but i had plans that i wazn't cancelling. They kept calling me on my cell telling me about the tornados but i waz like "whatever...no big deal...i got this...etc" At one point, i looked 2 my left and huge, dark, werid-looking clump of clouds waz a few miles away from me. I just kept saying "oh crap" and looking out the side of my window...ha ha. I waz doing like 80 miles and hour in the pouring rain just tryna get 2 the next city b4 my car got snatched up off the road.
16. Thanx!!! I've been a Cool J fan as long as i can remember. I love readin' what's on the mind of my favorite artists. I wish more emcees and rappers could sound like this in interviews. LL is candid, open, intellegent, and positive. U don't see that 2 much these days. U read and interview with Ja-Rule, G-Unit, Nelly, etc and they sound like foul-mouthed, ignorant 1st graders...it's embarassing.
17.
in my head... DMX "Shorty Was Da Bomb" (just the chorus part)
Dope song!! Right now i'm listening 2 "Voice of Love." It's a group of of Hip-Hop and R-N-B artists from Japan who did this huge posse track with inspirational lyrics...half of them are in English and half are Japanese. T-Boz and Chilli of TLC are also on the track but it's not well known. Dope song tho.'
18. I don't think FP ever slipped. His life has changed, Hip-Hop has changed. Throughout it all, he's kept his game up and never sold out his audience. The only selling-out ever done waz his fanbase 2 him.
19. It's not that big of a deal here when we are sharing with each other...but some people will share and give stuff away 2 anybody. Back when Napster waz big...FP's stuff waz all over the internet. Born To Reign waz easy 2 download also and look at how it did. Reguardless of the promotion and the musical experiments, there is no excuse 4 those kinda sales from a vet who's been successfull 4 so many year. I think it's quite obvious when artists like Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson, Toni Braxton, and TLC are barely (or not even) hitting platnium that there is something wrong.
20. Dead weight is no fun. Maybe if they got e-mails from the board saying that their membership will be terminated due 2 lack of activness, it might get a few of them posting.
21. The Eminem topic is old and beaten 2 death. All i can say is this...the Eminem 2004 isn't the Eminem of 2000.
