1. Yeah, FP is in a class of his own. I give props 2 any actor who graduates from only doing hood flicks.
2. Yeah, the 1st time they threw him out...i laffed til i cryed...no lie!! Me and my friends used 2 record all kinds of stuff with out camcorder and one time we recreated Jeff getting thrown out of the house. I ran and jumped out my back door which is 4 steps up from the patio. Even with a matress over the concrete, i still messed up my arm.
3. Granted i havn't heard anything from Canibus since the late-90's...but Kel Spencer is 100 times more talented than him in my opinion. Kel comes so much more 2 his lyrics and he also has personality. Everytime i heard a Canibus rap, i thought he waz a very unlikable guy who had the personality of a cardboard box. "The Streets Know That" isn't even a deep song, but Kel rips it with creativity and class. Canibus dosen't have a touch of class.
4. The topic of Will's so-called ghostwriters has been discussed before. In a Source magazine from 1997 (with Puffy on the cover), Will talked about how him and Nas wrote some songs 2gether. Will talked about showing him some stuff he had written and Nas would be like "that's good, but how about u say it like this" and so on. Will said it waz a good way for him 2 comeback fresh since his skillz were kinda rusty from the early/mid 90's. He said working with Nas who waz newer in the game helped bring him up 2 pace. Kel Spencer also talked about writing with Will. He said that he dosen't write songs for Will but that they'd sit down and write 2gether, just like hanging out working on music. Kel stressed that he never wrote anything songs 4 him. Will dosen't hide the fact when he would co-write with another person, u can see Nas', Common Sense's, and Kel Spencer's names in the credits. FP isn't trying 2 hide it. I think that while he waz on Columbia, FP experimented with a few different things since it waz a new phase in his career. The co-writers dissappeared on Born To Reign other than Kel Spencer's crew working on a few trax with him. I would be really upset if people were writing stuff 4 FP and he waz just rapping it, but as they said in the interviews, that's not the case. As a writer myself, i can relate and not be mad at the situation. There were times when me and my cousin would just chill in the basement and write rhymes. It waz a fun way 2 pass the time, it waz never like "oh, i have no talent...help a playa out!" I'm sure other writers can relate 2 this. With FP's comeback on the horizon, i'm sure Kel's crew might have some minimal input, but 4 the most part, FP seems very hungry and focusing on music more than he has in over 10 years.
5. No way...what rappers studio-enhance their voice?!? U gotta keep in mind that spitting in2 a mic in a studio and rocking a mic live are 2 different things. Sometimes FP yells a lil' 2 much in the mic, but that's just the way the songs convert 2 live shows. FP's flow on "Act Like You Know" is crisp and aggressive, yet it's kept low. When he rocked it live in NJ when i saw him, he waz alot louder with it. There's no way he could rap that song live like he didn't in the studio. U wouldn't hear him and he wouldn't be able 2 move on stage. When most emcees and rappers perform live, they are extra sloppy and very average with it. Of all the acts i've seen, JJ+FP is the only one that has pretty much taken their songs from wax 2 and audience perfectly. I've seen De La Soul, Kris Kross, Pharsyde, Black Eyed Peas, Wyclef, and TLC live and they all kept their show 2 a great performance level. I've also seen Ludacris and Ms. Jade live...their live shows are like alot of other rappers where their songs just don't sound any good live cuz they don't have that crowd-moving ability. I like Ms. Jade either so don't think i'm siding with artists i do and don't like.
6. I waz CD digging 2day and actually found the Barcelona Gold CD at a good price. Since i already have 2 samplers with "Higher Baby" on 'em...i didn't get. But i'll probably get it next time i'm there. One things 4 sure...i know nobody will get it.
7. They are all great. The Hybrid Mix give the song a late-90's agressive dance vibe. The SoulPower '98 Remix bring the song 2 a late-90's (yet timeless sounding) sound. DJ Jazzy Jeff's Mix is great cuz it's just a re-worked version of the original. This version waz actually played on radio stations where i live (and still is). The other 1991 remixes are good cuz they don't try 2 re-make the song. They keep all the essential aspects of the song their and just add a lil' here and there. There isn't a bad remix of this song...which is amazing.
8. I walked in expecting the worse but left incredibley impressed.
9. I can't believe some people are taking this so serious. Will stays in really expensive hotels so if something like a full-out peach fight goes down....it probably would cost that much. I hardly see how this would be negative press for Will...it's funny and harmless. Rappers like Jay-Z can put on their phoney hardcore images and talk about all the guns and drivebys they want...but get on FP's last nerve, and he'll do a driveby peaching. What your back Feminem.
10. Welcome 2 the board!! I'm all 4 posting and spelling how u want...but u might wanna regroup on your spelling style so it dosen't take us about 5 minutes 2 understand a 9-word post.
11. I thought it waz good enuff that i wouldn't mind seeing it again if i can find someone else who really wants 2 see it (which shouldn't be 2 hard). Y'all should at least catch a matinee or something when most theaters cut the price a lil.' Nearly every shot looks like a music video...very very very cool. When Patience (Halle) is learning about being Catwoman, she learns about others who have come b4 her and there's a quick shot looking down on her and their photos all over the floor. One of them is of Michelle Phifer in Batman Returns which cracked me up. I had 2 point it out 4 my friend 2 see even tho' it waz pretty obvious. Very good movie.
12. Kel Spencer actually wanted 2 release an album last year independently...but i havn't seen anywhere where u can get it. I contacted his camp and got a single by him featuring 3 bonus freestyles. Every track waz dope so i waz desperatly waiting 4 it 2 come out...but know how that goes. He also dosen't cuss in any of his music. Canibus is known by some as a great underground lyricist...but Kel can easily run circles around him...and i'm not saying that just cuz i don't like Canibus.
13. :bowrofl: That's hilarious!! :bowrofl: I wonder if he pegged Jeff in the back of the head.
14. I've heard alot of bad things about this movie 4 like a month. Critics said it wazn't any good (like i ever listen 2 them) and even my friends said it didn't impress them much (i don't even know if they actually saw it). Anyways, as a big Batman fan, and having another close friend who wanted 2 see it...i did. I waz really impressed with the movie. It's stylized, modern, and very hip. I just loved the way this movie LOOKED. It also has an incredible soundtrack 2 go with it. I'm not talking about a CD (i havn't looked at the soundtrack), i'm just talking about the way they put music in2 the movie. I just really liked the movie and didn't find one dull moment. Not 2 mention staring at Holly Barry the entire time. Anyone who might be interested in this movie should go see it. My friend liked it just as much.
15.
i think the point of using a curse word would be to emphasize a point..but if you are just constantly using it..surely it would devalue that.. then if half your song is curse words.. then you mustnt be saying much...
That's what i'm talkin' about. Can i get a witness!!
16. Yeah, about 85% of my collection probably came from ebay.
17.
Did jesus ever say cursing was bad?
Here's where things get crazy and the topic gets locked were we have start all over and realize we are talking about Hip-Hop music that isn't loaded down with cussing...but here i go. --- http://www.christianitytoday.com/cl/2004/001/20.19.html Campus Life, January/February 2004 Mute the Cussing? I'm a Christian and I don't curse. Is it wrong to watch movies and listen to music with cursing in them as long as I don't use those words? Great question. Let's start by asking what the Bible says about "cursing," "cussing" or "swearing." Scripture takes a clear stand against taking God's name in vain (Exodus 20:7). That means it's clearly wrong for a Christian to say "Oh my God" or "Jesus Christ" as a curse word. The Bible doesn't say much about specific curse words beyond misusing God's name. It doesn't say much about the words that can earn a movie a PG-13 or R rating—or a CD an "explicit lyrics" warning label. But Ephesians 4:29 says, "Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen." That pretty much eliminates profanity or any other words you or someone else might think are "unwholesome." Should you listen to people take God's name in vain on TV, in movies, or in music? That depends on two things. One, is the rest of the content in that movie or CD helpful in any way? Paul wrote that we should use "helpfulness" as a standard for choosing what's acceptable—and what's not (1 Corinthians 6:12). In other words, if the rest of the movie or song is helpful or edifying, it may be possible for you to overlook a few bad words. And two, ask yourself whether hearing those words makes you more likely to use (or think) unwholesome words. In that case, you don't need it. David's prayer in Psalm 19:14 should be ours, too: "May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer." Anyone interested in this may also wanna check out... www.hmcoc.org/pdfs/Cussing.PDF
18. Here's my responce 2 various things brought up in some of the replies. Starting with Julie's. Some songs/albums are deamed explict becuz of their content and not the words used. Usually that's becuz the subject matter is a bit extreem for young listeners even tho' they don't cuss once (just like how u used Janet's "Warmth" as an example). Also, i do know other people personally who don't like 2 hear non-stop cussing and explicit stuff. Some people don't care, some people just don't wanna hear. Overdone cussing just shows ignorance and a lack of creativity. How many songs do u know that are loaded down with cussing are by intelligent people who actually say something important in their song. It's more than morals or personal standards...it's also about what u are gonna spend your free time listening 2. Why waste that time making yourself feel like crap or making yourself dumber by listening 2 50 Cent's or Nelly's music when u can listen 2 someone who has a brain?! About the movies...i agree it's kinda silly 4 parents 2 let their younger kids see movies that are rated R and then get picky about what their kids are listening 2. HOWEVER, consider this also. All the cussing and the violence in the movies is strictly part of a storyline and it's also something they'll never see again or only watch it once in awhile when it comes out on video or DVD. With music, younger kids (even up 2 the mid-teens) think their artists are really living what they talk about...which is a joke. On top of that, they'll listen 2 the songs over and over and over again, while they'd only watch the movie every once in awhile. Younger people are more impressional and i certainly don't think they need 2 be trying 2 be like 50 Cent, Nelly, Ludacris, etc. When there are people like Fresh Prince and LL Cool J (which i grew up watching), i don't see how they could even give those other fools a chance. Oh yeah...and "Changes" by 2Pac has more than just the n-word in it. And we all know LL spent half of his career on the more explict tip...i'm feeling his current stuff a bit more than G.O.A.T....that's 4 sure.
19. I'm gettin' Pete Rock's recent albums Hieroglyphics' album this fall. I kinda lost interest in Baby Blak's album when i found out Jeff wazn't on it. I think he's good, but they have a chemistry that is the main part of my attraction 2 his music. I'll get Blak's stuff one day. I wanted The Beatnuts album also.
20. I think Da Brakes cleared that one up 4 ya pretty well.
21.
It can't be a JJFP album if it has songs which Jeff isn't on.
What would u call Code Red then?
22. The beat is dope, the subject matter is good, it's just the Olympic-tie-in that makes it's not a good album track. The production is dope tho'....and i crack up everytime i heard the beginning when i hear Jeff say "hit me one."
23. I just noticed i left 1 or 2 things on there like DJ Jazzy Jeff's "Live At The Cargo" set on there...which aren't officially relealsed. But that's basically it.

25. On page 9 of the June 27 - July 3 issue of TV Guide, they have a page featuring their rating of other emcees who are taking similar paths of the Fresh Prince. Insead of being rated by stars, they are rated by lil' FP heads. Here's what it says... --- INSIDER: What's New, Who's Hot, What's Next HIP-HOP MIGRATION More and more rappers are following what we call the Will Smith plan: Use the cachet gained from a hit song to charm your way into your own sitcom. From there, leap into movies. The onetime Fresh Prince of Bel-Air pioneered the formula, which was followed-with varying degrees of succes-by Queen Latifah, LL Cool J, and Ice-T. Now there's a new batch of MC's on the plan. Here's how they rate on our Will Power scale. - Rochell D. Thomas EVE (3 1/2 FPs) This 24-year-old Grammy winner has sold more than four million albums, starred in three hit films, launched a clothing line and her own TV series. And her next Will Smith move: Sharpening her "serious actor" chops in the indie drama "The Woodsman." METHOD MAN + RED MAN (3 FPs) The MC dream team had a hit with the college set with their 2001 pot-head flick "How High." With that coveted demogrphic behind the, it's no wonder they landed a high-profile-and funny-summer sitcom. MC LYTE (2 FPs) In the 90's she could "cold rock a party." Now the Lyte (nee Lana Moorer) is just another actor waiting for a big break. Small guest roles and a gig on UPN's Half & Half have yet to show us any Will Smith crossover appeal. MISSY ELLIOT (???) On MTV and singing Eve's jammin' theme song, she can do no wrong. But until we get a chance to sample her mid-season UPN reality show about hip-hop hopefuls, we'll wait and see if she can work it in prime time.
