Yeah, 1996 what a great hear of Hip-Hop and slightly mainstream R-N-B. Busta Rhymes and Nas were also doin' their thing. I just remember alot of good music comming out that year. Digital Underground dropped Future Rhythm (Oregeno Flow waz all over Yo! MTV Raps) and while the album only got some attention, it waz dope. That waz the last time Hip-Hop and R-N-B music really had that thick kinda production. Since then alot of stuf waz commercialized and production got thin and light-weight 4 ever the best of artists. "Stakes Is High" waz the stand out track of the summer or 1996 me tho. I taped that video and watched it over and over and over again. A few months later "Itzsoezeee (Hot)" dropped and the video waz hilarious. I actually got that De La Soul live album this week becuz i wanted 2 kinda relive the summer of 1996 (the show on it waz recorded in May 1996 while the album came out in June/July and i picked it up in early August cuz it waz the 1st time i saw it in stores. I'm getting their remix/rarity album soon and i can't wait 4 the new album this fall/winter.

a story that has rocked the tri-state area
JumpinJack AJ replied to sonic1988's topic in Caught in the Middle
I read about this. I have nothing against gay people at all. I know quite of few of them but i think this guy didn't need 2 share it with everyone. What's up with that. That only causes problems. He's a govener that nobody knows about or cares about (unless u live in Jersey). What waz the point of telling everyone he's gay and that he had an affiar with a guy while he's married with kids. He could have stepped down if that's what he wanted but i think this is one of the dumbest people ever....not cuz he's gay, but cuz he thinks people care and that he should share it with everyone when otherwise, we wouldn't know. Dumb people annoy me. -
Here's my personal reviews if it helps u at all. 2PAC: NU MIXX KLAXZZICS 2 OF AMERIKAZ MOST WANTED They took Snoop's vocals off and replaced them with Crooked I, Deathrow's main new artists who has average mic skillz and would probably suck as an artist lyrically. The beat is average...not bad but not good enuff 4 2Pac and it dosen't really fit the song the way it should. The vocals fit...just not the vibe it gives off. HOW DO YOU WANT IT The beat is kinda average but kinda empty. 2Pac's vocals are actually taken from the alternate version of "2 of Amerikaz Most Wanted" which are totally clean. This may be becuz i bought the edited version. I havn't heard the regular/explict version of this remix album. HAIL MARY This beat isn't bad, but again, it's not close 2 the level that the original production waz. LIFE GOES ON This is my favorite track off All Eyez On Me!! The production is pretty good and fits the vibe of the song. I'm very happy with this remix and since it waz done 2 my fav track...that says something. I expected 2 be really upset when hearing this one remixed but they pulled it off well. ALL EYEZ ON ME This one has boring, traditional commercial production. It's not awful...just boring. HEARTS OF MEN Interesting beat 4 this one. Different vibe 4 the song, but still pointless since it dosen't do what i remix should do 4 a song. TOSS IT UP Not a big difference on this remix. Standard new beat but not bad at all. HIT EM UP This beat isn't bad, but it dosen't take the song 2 that next level. This has the alternate cleaner lryics also...but it may be cuz i got the edited version. A lazy label like Deathrow wouldn't usually put the alternate vocal track 2 a remix just 4 and edited version of an album but maybe they wanted 2 give the song new life. Maybe someone with the regular version of this album can confirm which vocal track they used (explict or cleaner). NEVER HAD A FRIEND LIKE ME I waz so happy they remixed this track also. It's more of that traditinal 2Pac rather than his Deathrow stuff. The beat is one of the better ones on this album. AMBITIONZ AZ A RIDAH The strings on this remix are good, but the beat just isn't as thick as it should be. The idea of a remix album is a good idea, but Deathrow owns the music from an era when 2Pac simply didn't care 2 much put out his best music. Not long after being on Deathrow, he hated it and recorded all that material just 2 put out albums and get off the label by fulfilling his contract. Think about his position tho'...if Suge waz gonna pay his bail and get him outta jail, it seems reasonable 2 sign 2 his label since he knew him and did that huge favor. I remember being mad when i heard that newz but i could see where he waz coming from. Anyways, on 2 the life album. 2PAC: LIVE LIVE MEDLEY 2Pac is screaming his vocals over a live band which dosen't do it for me. I think it's just 2 hard 2 take alot of his beats and turn them in 2 good live band kinda trax. He opens with "California Love" then goes in2 "So Many Tears." "So Many Tears" is a classic and powerful song...but 2Pac kinda yells it and the band ruins the vibe of the song. Why would he mix a mainstream track like "California Love" and an introspective track like "So Many Tears" i'll never know. INTRO This is just a pointless :13 second interlude of some annoying lady introducing him. AMBITIONZ AS A RIDAH This is an ill album track, but the live version is crappy. The intro girls talking about 2Pac is way 2 long and really annoying...AND HAS NOTHING 2 DO WITH THE SONG. The music level on the audio is just a lil' 2 low, i think. At least he's flowing over an actual beat and not a band anymore. Oh yeah, this and following trax were recorded seperate from the Live Medley. 2Pac resorts 2 his yelling kinda flow which sux and he pretty much never did on his albums. SO MANY TEARS It's the best song he did live on this album. It only lasts a minute and a half tho.' I'm amazed that he did this song since his Deathrow era performances seem 2 stay away from his previous stuff. TROUBLESOME He starts this one off by calling out Nas. The Outlawz and his hypemen aka his friends with microphones really get annoying on this one. They finish the lines of most of 2Pac's lyrics. They also sing the "na na na...na na na...na na na...na na na...na na bye bye, all u n!gg@s die" part and it's so bad that u wonder if they are tone def. 2pac is still yelling and a lil' sloppy...but not nearly as sloppy as everyone else on stage. HIT EM UP Ha ha...yep, they did this on. What's annoying about this one is that The Outlawz and other fellaz keep finishing 2Pac's lines...but after 2Pac's opening verse, everyone on stage raps all the lyrics 2 the rest of the song 2gether. Just a bunch of guys yelling and sucking at performing live. TATTOO TEARS 2Pac relaxes a lil' bit on this one and isn't yelling as much. Not as bad as the other trax on this album. Probably cuz it's a slower laidback song. HEARTZ OF MEN How did this mess up end up on the album. It's the tech person MESSING UP. They start playing "Hit Em Up" while nobody on stage saying anything. 1st off, why did they say it waz "Heartz of Men" and why would they put it on the album as a 7 second track?!?! Deathrow is so stupid. ALL ABOUT U The first 38 seconds of this track is the tech person messing up. They skip from track 2 track off of All Eyez On Me until they get 2 "All About U." This performance is better and laidback also. However, u wish they would just turn of the mics of The Outlawz and who ever else had mics. NEVER CALL U B!+CH AGAIN Is another mid-tempo joint where 2Pac flows instead of yells. HOW DO U WANT IT This actually has Jodeci on stage with him. The into is just Jo Jo talking 2 the crowd, then Jodeci starts singing "Freek-N-U" acappella. Almost 2 minutes in 2 the track, the "How Do U Want It" beat drops. The audio of the music is way 2 low tho.' The vocals aren't where they should be. I have a feeling this waz taking from a different show. It's edited so that it flows, but i think it waz spiced that way. 2 OF AMERIKAZ MOST WANTED The audio of the beat is way 2 low again. 2Pac's flow is energic and pretty good. Snoop Dogg is also live in this one. They really just need 2 make the music louder on this one. CALIFORNIA LOVE The audio for this one isn't 2 incredible either. The beat is louder, but the music sounds so flat. Vocals are a lil' 2 low also. Dr. Dre isn't there...so it's basically 2Pac's verse, than a bunch of adlibing. During All Eyez On Me, 2pac didn't really tour as much...most of his shows were at clubs where the shows are really stripped down which i think contributed 2 level of the performances. Unless a live event is being recorded 4 a professional recording, it's not 2 sound 2 incredible...so that kinda the case. Most of it is just above bootleg level. Both of these albums are something every 2Pac fan should check out. They are Deathrow products so the quality level isn't the best and the people putting the projects 2gether don't really respect his legacy...they just want some money. However, if u really love 2Pac, get these albums. The remix album is a new way 2 hear old stuff. The live album is just a good reminder of him. Since some places have it priced under $10, it's definitly worth getting. I thought both of these projects were crap when they 1st came out...but as time went on, i appriciated them 4 what they are cuz i really love 2Pac's music. If the price is right, get 'em. If u aren't a huge 2Pac fan, don't bother with this stuff at all. But i would urge anyone 2 check his Greatest Hits album which gives listeners a good idea of what the man waz about. His album Me Against The World is one of the best albums of all time which everyone should give a chance.

I highly suggest SKEE LO. He's a 20-something emcee from the west coast. He's got that laidback, straight Hip-Hop west coast Hip-Hop vibe. He is highly active in his community and a very positive guy all around. He's got comical lyrics, serious lyrics, and an over all feel-good vibe. He never cusses in his music and all of his production is great and never less than meeting the standard of good music. "I Wish" - 1995. This album waz huge and nominated for 2 Grammys. SINGLES: I Wish, Top of The Strairs, Superman, and Holdin' On (Import). "I Cant' Stop" - 2000/2001. This album came out after years of struggling with finding a label. Nobody really knows about this album or has it. It's not as good as his 1st...but that dosen't make it bad at all. It's one of my favorite albums since the 2000's. Make sure u get the 2001 version tho' (with 2 extra trax). One of the trax is a remix of "At The Mall"...the best song on the album which isn't as good as the original....but why not get more bang 4 your buck. Also, it has the song "Just Like That" which wazn't on the 2000 version which is the 2nd best track recorded 4 the album. SINGLES: At The Mall, Bounce Back. Both of these albums are kinda hard 2 find. Since I Wish came out in 1995, it's kinda hard 2 find in stores but some still carry it. I Can't Stop wazn't printed in huge numbers so the internet is your best bet. It took me about a year 2 find the 2001 version (i had the 2000 version already). Another emcee u might wanna consider is YOUNG MC. Of coure everybody knows about the classic from 1989 "Bust A Move" but not many people know (or care) about his later work. 1997's "Return of The 1 Hit Wonder" is a good solid album. He's released 2 or 3 albums since then. I own Engage The Enzyme from 2002 which is good, but there are parts of the album where the production is lacking. But real Hip-Hop fans don't rely stictly on production. Lyrics and talent are much more important. I didn't get his other current album only cuz it's hard 2 find but i'll get it sometime soon. I would suggest getting "Return of The 1 Hit Wonder" and if u like it...get his other stuff. U can usually find that album MAD cheap cuz it waz his last album 2 be printed in big numbers. I can suggest more if u don't mind if the emcees cuss a lil' bit or if their talent and lyrics out-weigh their cussing.

I think every once in awhile they try 2 put 2gether a Ghostbusters 3 movie but Bill Murray holds it up. Never heard about this Will rumor tho.' I know that he did want 2 be Robin in Batman Forever tho.'
-
I got that movie years ago looking 4 the Fresh Prince cameo but never actually watched it. I did watch half of it in fast forward but didn't see Will. Another fan of FP from the old OLD Sony board said it waz playing at their school (for reasons i don't know why) and they went 2 the bathroom and supposedly missed it. It may be an FP Urban Legend...who knows. I'll try 2 watch it sometime soon and confirm if Will actually has a cameo in it or not. It seems like the kinda movie u'd find in the Wal-Mart $5.50 bin...but it wazn't really successful and didn't look very entertaining so it probably never will be released on DVD.
Sesame Street still airs? :ideagone:
Yeah, Sesame Street still airs. Tatyana Ali waz on it a few years ago. She's actually on a soundtrack 2 an Elmo movie but i never got it.
-
When i saw this news...it waz bittersweet. Sure i wanna hear a new FP track on the soundtrack, but at the same time, i like keeping his music away from his movies. It seems the best way 2 go 2 me. However, actually taking Will off the soundtrack AND putting a D12 track on it...that's a huge DOWNGRADE. I get the feeling that FP backed away from the soundtrack tho'. I really don't think Dreamworks took him off it. I have nothing that supports that, i just think it waz his choice.

DJ Jazzy Jeff @ Black Eyed Peas Concert/Tour
JumpinJack AJ replied to WildWildWillennium's topic in Jazzy Jeff & Fresh Prince
I think BEP should have Jazzy Jeff on their next album. I've seen Jazzy Jeff perform live and spin 4 a block party...and i've also seen Black Eyed Peas perform live and i just think their talents and energy would compliment each others. BEP is huge now so Jeff would get good exposer if he worked with them on an album. -
It would be crazy if JJ+FP opened the show. I think it would catch everyone off guard and be a huge event.

Will should do a Rock album...
JumpinJack AJ replied to Hypestyle's topic in Jazzy Jeff & Fresh Prince
I wouldn't mind hearing a rock-edge remix of some of his trax...but no serious rock trax. They would have 2 be produced by Jam Master Jay or Rick Rubin. Other than that...NO WAY!! -
I think FP and LL have always been the perfect combination 4 a collabo...but it's NEVER happened. They have tons of similarities and tons differences. I think the fact that they have been making music so long, have conqoured film and TV, AND are both great people in general are the main factors which lead 2 other similarities. LL actually desided 2 make 10 a lyrically clean album becuz they had that Hip-Hop Summit meeting in 2001 (which Will also attended) and they talked about lyrical content, subject matter, how emcees/rappers approach songs, and so on. LL said he walked away from that saying he waz gonna proove he could do his part and stick 2 it. It waz also his milestone album and wanted it 2 be a respectable project. LL has always gone back and forth between lyrically clean album and explict stuff. His 1st 3 were almost totally clean with only a few words tossed out. Mama Said Knock You Out waz totally clean and so waz it's follow up 14 Shots To The Dome. Mr. Smith waz kinda eplicit as waz Phenomenon. G.O.A.T. waz probably his most explict. After his artistic Phenomenon waz hot 4 a moment then faded...he desided 2 regroup and keep it street...giving some fans what they were missing. I think 10 is a masterpeice and not just becuz i love Hip-Hop that dosen't rely on cussing. I got the impression that his new project will be similar 2 10. 10 isn't even 2 years old and he didn't do any serious re-grouping. He's had a good 2 years with the success of 10, Deliver Us From Eva, S.W.A.T., and so on. I think he's still in the mindstate of keeping things respectable and true 2 himself. We only have a lil over 2 weeks 2 find out.
-
I don't think any of their material is wack...but there's "Boom! Shake The Room" and then there's "The Rain"...know what i mean. But one thing that's great about JJ+FP is that they can do a track that is deep, instrospective, and serious like "Shadow Dreams" or "The Rain" and then do a carefree mainstream track like "Boom! Shake The Room" or "Gettin' Jiggy Wit It." JJ+FP wouldn't be the same without being able 2 cover all those bases. Most artists/groups do only one kinda song...which i think gets boring real quick.
-
Oh yeah...2 those who just want a "Will Smith" solo album. I may have 2 tie u 2 a chair...and then kick u until u die. Have a nice day. :sonny:
-
No offence but... S T U P I D Q U E S T I O N!! I've been wanting a new JJ+FP album since the mid-90's. I'll support whatever they do tho'....so i'm happy 2 get anything new from either of them. JJ+FP returing would be a great thing 4 both of them and 4 Hip-Hop music in general.
-
Congratz on getting those single. Nothing is better than owning the official stuff. Finding stuff like old singles at good prices is always nice. The Instravibe of "Ring My Bell" is nice. I also have the shorter version off an import single. I got music in the mail 2day also but it's not JJ+FP related. I got the album "100% Haterproof" but The Unit featuring Queen Latifah and a Jon B sampler that features a remix of "Cool Relax" that features Guru..i've been wanting this since 1999!!

Need to know something!!
JumpinJack AJ replied to jedi2002jaime@hotmail.com's topic in Jazzy Jeff & Fresh Prince
Yeah!! Post it!! :poke: Thanx In Advance!! -
(1)I don't act like I am god, and neither does AJ. I (I cant speak for AJ) do think I am smarter then SOME people becouse I actually am. And you cant deny that, everyone on this forum is smarter then ATLEASE SOMEONE on this planet.
Good point!! Thanx 4 serving as a voice 4 me while i'm having problems accessing the board.
-
If i can get back on the board later, i'll discribe it. A 2Pac fan can appricate it 4 what it is...but it's pretty much crap. No surprise. Another "classic" from Deathrow.
-
I don't really have a choice...i think they are both pretty average compared 2 everything else on Code Red. Usually when i make compilation CDs, i use Jazzy Jeff's Block Party Mix which is the Street Remix scratched up by Jazzy Jeff or Mr. Lee's Mixes which are just the album version with some additional production.
-
Homebase waz the 1st album i got when it waz new. Before then i got a copy of He's The DJ, I'm The Rapper from my friends older sister. I had the other singles from cousin who taped everything off the radio. After i got Homebase...i went back and got all the other albums. Of course this waz 1991 and i waz still buying cassettes, so i had 2 get all that stuff on CD in the late 90's. Code Red waz the 1st album i got on CD. I had no idea when Code Red came out (tho' i knew it waz comin' out) so i went 2 the mall pretty much every day for a month until it came out. My mom could have killed me 4 all that driving back and forth. It waz cool tho' cuz all my friend heard it and when out and got the album. I can't believe it took so long 2 go platnium cuz i probalby know a million people who bought it shortly after it came out.

How many JJ+FP studio albums do you own?
JumpinJack AJ replied to KevTastic's topic in Jazzy Jeff & Fresh Prince
He's The DJ, I'm The Rapper (1988...actually copied from my friends older sister). Homebase - 1991 Rock The House, He's The DJ, I'm The Rapper, And In This Corner... - 1991 Code Red (1993) Since then i got all their stuff the day it dropped...except for Big Willie Style which i got 2 days b4 it dropped. -
Yeah, overseas, they released a "Boom! Shake The Room" CD single with a club remix of it done in 1995 (2 years after the single's impact). It waz remixed by Hula (Summertime, A Dog Is A Dog, I'm Looking For The One (To Be With Me). Pretty good club remix.
-
If huge success comes with this new album, i wouldnt' be surprised if another compilation would come out. However, it would be along the lines of the Will Smith "Greatest Hits" album with a bonus or 2 if we were lucky. I hate the idea of any project that JJ and/or FP not involved with cuz it won't be put 2gether properly and it won't but up 2 their standards. Remastering all 5 albums and the JJ+FP Greatest Hits album and releasing them is a good idea. I don't think any albums with rarities, concerts, or anything should be released without JJ+FP involved. I think that stuff should only be produced in limited qualities 4 the fans and not 4 the public 2 just get cuz there's a reason that stuff waz never released in the 1st place...cuz it waz never meant 4 public release when it waz new and fresh.
-
I've liked De La Soul since they came out...but it waz 1996 when i really really got in2 them. It waz a point where i hated mainstream rap. It waz awful. Then, De La dropped their video in early summer 1996 for "Stakes Is High." They stressed everything i waz feeling. Here's the lyrics 2 the song. DE LA SOUL - Stakes Is High [Pos] The instamatic focal point bringing damage to your boroughs Be some brothers from the east with some beats that be thorough Got the solar gravitation so I'm bound to pull it I gets down like brothers are found ducking from bullets Gun control means using both hands in my land Where it's all about the cautious livin' Migrating to a higher form of consequence, compliments Of strugglin', that shouldn't be notable Man every word I say should be a hip hop quotable [Dove] I'm sick of b!+tches shakin' @$$es I'm sick of talkin' about blunts Sick of Versace glasses Sick of slang Sick of half-ass awards shows Sick of name brand clothes Sick of R&B b!+ches over bull$#!+ tracks Cocaine and crack Which brings sickness to blacks Sick of swoll' head rappers With their sicker-than raps Clappers and gats Makin' the whole sick world collapse The facts are gettin' sick Even sicker perhaps Stickabush to make a bundle to escape this synapse [Pos] Man life can get all up in your @$$ baby you betta work it out Let me tell you what it's all about A skin not considered equal A meteor has more right than my people Who be wastin' time screaming who they've hated That's why the Native Tongues have officially been re-instated (Vibes....vibrations) Stakes is high (Higher than high) You know them stakes is high (Higher than high) When we talkin' 'bout the (Vibes....vibrations) Stakes is high, you know them stakes is high When we dealin' with the (Vibes....vibrations) Stakes is high (Hey yo, what about that love?)
