Check out Switch Music Video @ WillSmith.com
JumpinJack AJ replied to DevilsJim89's topic in Jazzy Jeff & Fresh Prince
I don't think the label thing should worry us. Will has enuff money 2 do it himself if he wants. Either way tho'...he is The Fresh Prince. He was looking at lables awhile ago so he probably knows what he's doing. -
For anyone who likes R-N-B...check 4 the song "Right On" by TQ (yes, from the guy who brought u "Westside" back in 1998). The song is a smooth west coast summer track. I just caught the video (which is nice) and fell in love with it from the 1st listen.

This request goes out 2 all of audio mixers/editers or whatever. "Potnas" is my favorite solo 'Will Smith' song since his comeback, but what kills me is that it's blended with that interlude. I was wondering if any of you could take "Potnas" and just make is steadily fade at the end so that it ends right be u hear Will and his dad start talking. That way the track can stand alone and my mix CDs can flow better. I know somebody already seperated the Willennium Interlude so that it's just Will's rap without Will and his dad talking in the beginning. I waz wondering if u could post that again so i can download it. "Potnas" and the Willennium "Interlude" are at the top of my fav solo joints list and it kills me that they are attatched 2 each other. If anyone could seperate them and put them up as MP3s (and make the sound quality as good as possible), i will 4ever be greatful. I'm pretty sure other people would be really happy with it as well.

I'm not a sports fan...so i don't care much. I wouldn't mind hearing a new album from him tho...ha ha. He's not all that on the mic, but he definitly offers and alternative 2 the trash. He has the same rhyme skills as some of the chart toppers...but his music dosen't make u feel like crap (or 100 times stupider) after hearing it.

Will Smith advises teens to dump their delinquent
"Will's my favourite rapper, lets go slap some reporters!"
 I almost said something about that but chose not 2...so i'm glad u did. I wazn't trying 2 be one sided tho'...that's why i mentioned Queen Latifah and Guru...who made mistakes but also happen 2 be amongst my favorite emcees. What they did waz address the issue of the mistakes themselves. It seems that "those other guys" benifit in sales when they do stupid stuff and give the illusion that it's cool 2 be a shallow, ignorant, violent person who makes stupid choices in life and stays in the limelight. -
They industry definitly needs 2 be open 2 everyone...not just the guys who have no talent and sell records 2 fans who don't know about music that is much better than what they are buying. I don't have 2 much pity for KRS-One tho'. I'm a big fan of his, but he dosen't promote his projects at all. When he waz on Jive, he made videos and released singles. He had great success with them without being a mainstream artist. These days he just puts out albums that only his die-hard fans know about. Whenever i notice a new KRS album dropped, it's cuz i waz just looking. Even as a fan of his, i havn't brought an album by him since 1997's "I Got Next" (which is classic). With JJ/FP, LL, and so on...i'll get their albums on their release day no matter what. But with KRS-One...even knowing i'll most likely love the music, i need 2 be motivated 2 spend my money on it. He could at least TRY 2 sell records. There alot of guys i don't like...Ludacris, Jay-Z, Chingy, D12, Bonecrusher, Lil' Jon + Eastside Boyz, Nelly, Ja-Rule, 50 Cent + G-Unit, Eightball + MJG, etc. I just think they should all stop rapping...PERIOD. Their non-existant skillz have no redemable quality 2 me. I wouldn't dislike them so much if there waz a steady flow of talented cats and established artists getting the same love. But there's not. It's kinda like the industry says "hey, u had some hits but since you had your shine, we aren't gonna support you anymore. We are gonna support this new guy who sux." Back in the mid-90's...i waz already crying where mainstream Hip-Hop and Rap waz headed...but i waz okay cuz for every wack artist, there waz a talented guy getting the same love. That's not the case anymore. I like Twista, OutKast, and Kanye West...but they aren't exactly what i want. I glady own their albums...but i still want more. I want Slick Rick, Biz Markie, JJ+FP, Public Enemy, L.L. Cool J, MC Lyte, Doug E. Fresh, Pete Rock + C.L. Smooth, Queen Latifah, etc and so on....but how many of them actually get support. Only 2 or 3.

The time difference is wrong.

HAPPY B-DAY!! I think the times on the board are kinda screwed up....or they only apply 2 a certain time zone so it'll be wrong 4 most of us. -
BTW whatever happend to the light funky ones.
LFO came out with Life Is Good in the summer of 2001. It still had the R-N-B and Hip-Hop influence...but this album had alot of rock influence on it. When i got it, i waz really disappointed (more than when i heard some of Born To Reign's trax)...however, the album ended up growing on me and becoming on of my favorite albums ever. J Records didn't promote them very good and even tho' they were touring, their 1st video/single didn't get much support and their money ran out b4 they could shoot the video for "Life Is Good" featuring M.O.P. They didn't get the option 2 make the album a hit and they fellaz went their seperate way since their creative minds wern't working 2gether. Rich started a new group called Bad Mood Mike which waz alot like the rock-style of LFO. Bad Mood Mike broke up last year after their career as a group only managed 2 get a lil' buzz from touring. Brad produced/compiled an album which waz on some weird rock tip (which he released independently) and Devin also is working on a solol album. Months ago they got 2gether and sung Happy B-Day 2 Louis Pearlman (who helped them get their career off the ground) and there waz newz of them touring 2gether and maybe going from there but i don't think it ever happened. 2 me, LFO wazn't a boy band...they were just a u-neek group that waz in2 multiple music genres. Their lyrics were creative, funny, and on a level not many groups could compare 2. They singing and rap styles were something unlike anyone else in music. While i loved them 4 their Hip-Hop and R-N-B sound...their musical risks got me accepting sounds i'm usually not in2 . They turned in2 one of my favorite groups and i really wish they'd work 2gether again reguarless of the sound. :::Goes 2 listen 2 "Summergirls":::

I'm so hyped...however, if i think about it, this is gonna be a long 6 weeks. The hype of I, Robot will keep me held over 4 awhile tho.' I think the timing is right this time around...and i think the music will be right as well. Fans always go crazy 4 Will...it's a matter of him winning them over as real fans and not idiots on TRL who are told 2 scream 4 whoever is on the show. -
If i could chose what reggae artist FP would work with...i'd skip over Elephant Man and request Wayne Wonder, Sean Paul, Shaggy, Snow, or Diana King.

New album might come out by christmas
JumpinJack AJ replied to Big Ben's topic in Jazzy Jeff & Fresh Prince
Black Christmas? lol isnt that a bit racial? haha
I thought the title waz a bit stupid myself. I 4get who all is on it...but it waz all black artists. I think there is like 3 or 4 versions of the album. -
FOR JJ+FP From your entire music catalog, what are your top 3 favorite songs? FOR FP If you could change anything about your time with Columbia Records, what would it be? FOR JJ What mainstream artists would u like 2 work with?

I just got done watching. Will waz lookin' all smooth in black shoes, black pants, black shirty, and a tan jacket. Again, really really shorty hair and no facial hair. I'm actually used 2 the short hair and no facial hair look now...he looks 10 years younger. Will waz hilarious but there's a difference between being funny and doing stand up comedy. Don't know if i'd want him concentrating on that til he's a lil' older. He talked about his house that's been being built 4ever, his family (a lil' bit) but mostly about the movie. I think Dave and Will have this crazy chemistry....Dave really should do a cameo in a movie with Will cuz they are just so funny 2gether.
-
I don't know what show it waz, but my mom taped it 4 me. He waz wearing kinda fitted jeans (but not tight), black shoes, a black shirty with a cream-colored jacket. The hair waz really short and no facial hair in site. As always, he waz funny. However, the real gem waz when they aired "1985" footage (i think it waz 1986 or 1987) of him and Jeff performing "The Magnificent Jazzy Jeff" live on some Philly TV show. Will watched it cracking up and kinda sung along with Jeff's scratching. When they cut the clip off he went "Man, how did i ever become famous"...ha ha. He also talked about his Parade interview about how he uses his fear and doubts at fuel for success. He said that carrying the movie on his own waz his inspiration 2 make the movie big. He said usually it goes "Will + Martin" or "Will + Tommy Lee Jones" but this time, he's carrying the main focus of the movie himself.

Will Smith advises teens to dump their delinquent
JumpinJack AJ replied to Hero1's topic in Caught in the Middle
Yeah, not many other emcees or rappers have anything 2 offer their fans (in music or as a human being). "Hey, my favorite rapper is Jay-Z...let me go stab somebody like i did Un" "Puff's my favorite rapper, let me go 2 club and start shooting like i did a few years ago." Things happen in life, but when something happens, i think it's important 2 talk about so that fans and people in general can unstand the situation. 2pac talked about his problems which put me at ease as a big fan...just 2 know he's not some viloent person. When Guru and Queen Latifah got knocked, they stressed the issues in their interviews and in their music. Knowing why they owned guns made me feel better about them doing it. As much as u can get 2 know an artist thru' their music and their interview, I rather learn about the person's life rather than just talk about their music. -
I waz outta town yesterday...but i did tape it and i'm about 2 watch it right now.

New album might come out by christmas
JumpinJack AJ replied to Big Ben's topic in Jazzy Jeff & Fresh Prince
It also came out on a Japanese album in 1997 called Avex The Album. It costed me somewhere between $40-$60...i forget exactly how much. HOWEVER, there is a cheaper way 2 find "Family Christmas"...it's on a compilation album called Black Christmas '98. I 4get if it waz released in the US or overseas. -
Will Smith advises teens to dump their delinquent
JumpinJack AJ replied to Hero1's topic in Caught in the Middle
That is some of the best advice i've ever heard. I think alot of people need 2 hear that. However, i think it's important 2 be there 4 everybody and no discriminate against people. Sometimes it's those yucky people in your life that need your help 2 get out of that mess and on2 the right track. -
Nice + Smooth is dope....the last i heard from them as a group waz their 1997 album Blazing Hot. Greg Nice has stayed busy on lots of people's albums. Smooth, being the weaker member of the group dosen't do 2 much solo work. I don't think Jay-Z or 50 Cent have skills tho'. I honestly think they just suck. Like Tim said, if they were trying 2 battle any true skool artist, they'd be blown away...u probably couldn't even hear them rapping over the laughter from the audience. 2Pac i think is the most misunderstood emcee of all time. He came from old skool Hip-Hop roots and the underground scene. He spoke what he felt (even when he should have thought b4 saying some of those things) which lead him 2 come off very multi-faced....tho' i think his core base of fans understood him. This guy made real music 4 real people. 2 many people think they know about him, but they don't. He wazn't some phoney gangsta rapper, this guy put heart, pain, and real issues in his music.
-
Ahhh...something we agree on. Nice + Smooth is dope. I also really wanna get Erick Sermon's new album. However, 2day i listened 2 the radio on a long road trip. I also popped in an LFO CD and the Jerkey Boys.

NEVER BEFORE SCENE: I, ROBOT
JumpinJack AJ replied to JumpinJack AJ's topic in Jazzy Jeff & Fresh Prince
Yeah, i already wanted 2 see the movie real bad...but this special made me wanna see it even more. I already started organizing a group of people 2 go see it. -
This half hour show put 2gether by MTV is definitly worth checking out. It opens up with their gorgous Asian VJ hosting in front of a live audience. There is video footage of Will talking about the movie and introducing the the 10 minutes worth of the movie that they are gonna show. After it's aired (which looks great), the VJ looks in2 the audience 4 ?uestions about the movie...she points 2 the back and as someone 2 standa and ask their ?uestion...right then, the "Freakin' It" instrumental comes on and the Fresh Prince comes running thru' the audience 2 join the VH on stage. He waz wearing street boots, slightly baggy jeans, a tight black shirt, and shades. He hair waz also super short, making him almost bald and he started growing his facial hair back. Will answer ?uestions and joked as he always dose. B4 a commerical break, it showed him going thru' the audience giveing love 2 as many people as he could. During one of the montages of movie scenes, they shortly play "Da Butta" over it. Check it out!! In my post about promotion, u can see what times MTV plans on airing it.

It's so funny. Back in the 80's and much of the 90's. MTV waz hip and young, and VH-1 waz created 4 the older, more mature audience. MTV waz always the main focus while VH-1 waz the younger sister 2 it (being owned by the same companies). It amazing 2 see what MTV has turned in2 (mostly crap) and VH-1 just keeps coming up with great shows (that don't make u mad that they don't focus on music as much as they used 2). I love shows like VH-1 Ill-ustrated, I Love the 80's, and Best Week Ever. Well, 2nite, the 1st 2 episodes of I Love The 90's aired. I'm one of those people who loves reminiscin' so shows like this are just so cool 2 me. Why it's just summing up a year in2 an hour, they definitly make u remember and laff at certain things that defined that era. M.C. Hammer, Boyz N The Hood, In Living Color, and even Vanilla Ice were mentioned on the 1990 and 1992 episode. M.C. Hammer actually is in the short segment of the episodes where he lists the top 3 dance trax of that year. It's just cool 2 see him hyped and energized. Rappers with personality is always a plus. They even use a remix that waz made last year of his jam "U Can't Touch This" while the segment is going on. Just wanted 2 share 4 those of u who like that kinda stuff.....I Love The 90's is airing all week on VH-1.
