1. This half hour show put 2gether by MTV is definitly worth checking out. It opens up with their gorgous Asian VJ hosting in front of a live audience. There is video footage of Will talking about the movie and introducing the the 10 minutes worth of the movie that they are gonna show. After it's aired (which looks great), the VJ looks in2 the audience 4 ?uestions about the movie...she points 2 the back and as someone 2 standa and ask their ?uestion...right then, the "Freakin' It" instrumental comes on and the Fresh Prince comes running thru' the audience 2 join the VH on stage. He waz wearing street boots, slightly baggy jeans, a tight black shirt, and shades. He hair waz also super short, making him almost bald and he started growing his facial hair back. Will answer ?uestions and joked as he always dose. B4 a commerical break, it showed him going thru' the audience giveing love 2 as many people as he could. During one of the montages of movie scenes, they shortly play "Da Butta" over it. Check it out!! In my post about promotion, u can see what times MTV plans on airing it.
2. It's so funny. Back in the 80's and much of the 90's. MTV waz hip and young, and VH-1 waz created 4 the older, more mature audience. MTV waz always the main focus while VH-1 waz the younger sister 2 it (being owned by the same companies). It amazing 2 see what MTV has turned in2 (mostly crap) and VH-1 just keeps coming up with great shows (that don't make u mad that they don't focus on music as much as they used 2). I love shows like VH-1 Ill-ustrated, I Love the 80's, and Best Week Ever. Well, 2nite, the 1st 2 episodes of I Love The 90's aired. I'm one of those people who loves reminiscin' so shows like this are just so cool 2 me. Why it's just summing up a year in2 an hour, they definitly make u remember and laff at certain things that defined that era. M.C. Hammer, Boyz N The Hood, In Living Color, and even Vanilla Ice were mentioned on the 1990 and 1992 episode. M.C. Hammer actually is in the short segment of the episodes where he lists the top 3 dance trax of that year. It's just cool 2 see him hyped and energized. Rappers with personality is always a plus. They even use a remix that waz made last year of his jam "U Can't Touch This" while the segment is going on. Just wanted 2 share 4 those of u who like that kinda stuff.....I Love The 90's is airing all week on VH-1.
3. Yes!!! Thanx!! I can't wait 2 go get this...and the wait isn't even that long. It looks like Hip-Hop has quite a line up on the way. Hopefully it'll kick this talentless fools off the charts and put some heart back in mainstream Hip-Hop and Rap. Hey peoples...this is what good music is supposed 2 sound like!!
4. I saved all the pictures on a disc so maybe i can post them at some point...or send them 2 someone.
5. :rosik: I'm 24 years old and from Maryland. I've grown up on Hip-Hop since mid-80's. I spent alot of my time with my cousins who are older and got me deep in2 Hip-Hop by making me copies of their cassette tapes and radio mixtapes. If u've been in2 Hip-Hop since the early/mid 80's...how can u think that 2days modern day rap music is anything comparable 2 old skool Hip-Hop of the 80's and the golden age Hip-Hop of the 90's. There is no comparing it...hands down. 90% of the stuff that is on any charts these days SUCKS.
6. This is my thing...fans of mainstream rap don't know what skillz are, they don't know what good music is...heck they don't even know what 'props' is. Their opinions mean nothing 2 me.
7. This link might take u 2 the article with the 2nd picture. Check out the pix and don't 4get 2 check the 1st which has a really rare pic of FP from 1988. If it dosen't work...sorry. 8. When i logged on, AOL's opening page on new has pic of Will and had a link 2 InStyle.com. There's a short article which i'm pasteing at the bottom of this post...but u need 2 try and find the page there cuz there's 10 pix of Will on it...many of them pretty rare. --- Will Smith Baby-faced Will Smith is arguably one of the most successful crossover artists in Hollywood. Known as the Fresh Prince in the late eighties, rap partner to DJ Jazzy Jeff, his low-key but fly look landed him a starring role in the TV series The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. His signature "flat top" hairstyle on the hit show, coupled with bright leather outfits and shades, made him instantly recognizable, and the combination of comedic talent and musical chops put him on the fast track to stardom. His style began to evolve (notice the more subtle flat top and occasional stubble) until the megahit Men in Black, in which he popularized the slick, form-fitting dark suit. Pumped and buff (he once referred to himself as "human Viagra") for his Oscar-nominated turn in 2001's Ali, the normally lithe Smith became an action hero, fighting villains and aliens alike. What's next on his plate? "People laugh," he has said, " but if I set my mind to it, within the next 15 years I would be president."—Karen Johnston
9.
Aj, i don't get it.. Why don't you like Jay-Z????????????? u seem to hagve no reason
Let me start off saying that we are pretty good at respecting that we each have our own opinions...so no Jay-Z fans bug out about this. I don't like Jay-Z and i got plenty of reasons. He's phony, he simply dosen't live out everything he talks about but he puts up this image like he dose. He's just a joke 2 me. For instance, i think "99 Problems" is a decent song...but u see his little speech b4 and after the video. The Jay-Z in the video dosen't match up with the Jay-Z in the speech who comes off as this soft-spoken guy who can barely organize a sentence. I think his voice is so annoying...his flow sucks. He just sounds silly when he's tryna be hard but it's not fooling 2 many people. I just can't stand his voice. When he sounds very basic, it's not 2 bad, but alot of the time he overuses his voice and i just can't stand it...just like when Nelly whines in his music and Eminem uses his high pitch voice...JUST STOP. Girls Girls Girls...whatever. Incase u didn't notice...Jay-Z isn't the nicest looking dude. I think the ice around his neck is blinging so bright that Beyonce is partially blind and can't see his face. The only girls he has 2 be getting is groupies who are down 4 the reputation or money. If he's got a girl and he's treating her right, he's not getting girls girls girls. Mostly, what makes me not stand this guy is that he can't make songs that have a subject. He just raps...and that's it. His songs never sound complete 2 me. Usually he talks about money, jewerly, and material things...WHO CARES ABOUT THAT STUFF. Nobody wants 2 hear about stuff they've heard talked about for the past 10 years over and over and over again. Whenever it sounds like he makes a song that actually is supposed 2 have a topic, he never stays on it...it still ends up just being a song with words that have nothing 2 do with each other. What's the point of making a song if u say nothing. From what i've heard, that's what the bulk of his material is about. --- Now i'm gonna be as fair and say that i think he is a smart business man. He's got his own label and clothing line going on. I wouldn't be caught dead wearing any Roca-Wear mess...but he's being more than an artist and making money. I actually kinda like some of the artists he's signed. Cam'Ron has always been kinda cool (even tho' his career waz already established b4 Rocafella), Kanye West has got some decent skillz, and what's the name of that duo he has that dropped the album titled "Tough Love"?!?! I can't remember their name 4 some reason but i like the 1st 3 singles they've dropped. I'm not comparing them 2 Gang Starr, A Tribe Called Quest, Black Star, etc...but of the commerical stuff that gets air play, they are definitly better than G-AY Unit, Ludacris, J-Kwon, and so on. Like i said in my post above, he dose have a few songs i like...Ain't No..., Sunshine, The City Is Mine, Girls Girls Girls, Money Ain't A Thing, Excuse Me Miss. Again tho', their guest artists and producer often are the main reason i like the song...certainly not cuz of him.
10.
Keep us people in the rest of the world informed!!!!
U'll have 2 look that up on your own. It waz hard enuff 4 me 2 find this stuff airing where i live. :laugh2:
11. Not being a big fan of Eminem's anymore, even i thought he waz a good freestyler. But i can't give props 2 Jay-Z at all. He has some songs like Ain't No..., The City Is Mine, Sunshine, Girls Girls Girls, etc that i like...but it's just the song i like. And in alot of those cases, it's cuz i like Foxy Brown, BLACKstreet, Babyface or just the production. He simply dosen't make music 4 me. The way u talk about Em's freestyle is totally what Will's early freestyles were about. The person's looks, cloths, etc. He laffs at battle components who try 2 be hard cuz he just rips them with comedy.
12. Here it is y'all. A list of places Will is gonna be on TV this week and a list of when MTV is airing their special on I, Robot. MONDAY - JULY 12 MTV - Never Before Scene: I, Robot - 11 p.m. TUESDAY - JULY 13 CBS - The Late Show with David Letterman - 11:30 WEDNESDAY - JULY 14 Good Morning America FOX - Good Day - 12 noon MTV - TRL FRIDAY - JULY 16 Regis + Kelly BET - 106 + Park Here is a list of other times that MTV's I, Robot special airs. TUESDAY - 12 p.m. THURSDAY - 8:30 p.m. FRIDAY - 9:30 SATURDAY - 2 a.m. SATURDAY - 11 a.m. Keep in mind all this stuff is for the US, East Coast so some of u won't see some of it and some of u may see it at different times of the day.
13. I don't care about The Clash at all...but i put myself in the shoes of their fans by picturing Chingy heavily sampling something like "Summertime"....i'd be really mad, so i know where their fans are coming from. Oh well, Will dose what he wants 2. I wonder if it waz his idea or the Trackmasters.
14. Man, my freestyling is better than that Eminem one u just posted...ha ha. And i havn't focused on freestyling in a long time. Sorry about Jay-Z...i can't give him props. I don't think his lyrics are good at all. That explains why his songs never stay on topic if they ever have a topic in the 1st place. I think that's a wack way 2 make songs and an album. Freestyles 99% of the time are never as good as a written song. Writing is where most of the creative process and the real skills show up. Freestyling only proves that u can quickly come up with a rhyme.
15. I'm not sure how this mini-magazine, Parade, is published, but it's part of my Sunday parper every week. Todays has none other than the Freshests of Princes on the cover. The article isn't that long, but it basically talks about how Will turns doubt and fear around in2 positive energy 2 accomplish things in life. I'll try 2 post more about soon (notably when it's not almost 3 in the morning).
16. I think alot of people stressed some good ponts here. I loved yours TopDawg...some of it looks like u cut and pasted some things i've said. Lately i've been listening 2 alot of Hip-Hop from 1993ish - 1996ish...it has me in tears about how good Hip-Hop used 2 be. I can't believe what it's come 2 now. I also agree that Dr. Dre's "The Chonic" album (being a dope album) did lead 2 the industry ruining commerical Hip-Hop as we know it.
17. U gotta keep in mind that they called them "awsomely bad" but they are saying they are cool...but have flaws. I saw it myself, and i understand that some punk fans were pretty mad that used that Clash song 4 a song like "Will 2K"...it just wazn't that good. They also tore it apart 4 being a bit egotistical. I think that it waz kinda funny when someone said "did the Willennium last shorter than expected....about 2 months." They did prove some good point where i found funny. But u can't take a show like that seriously.
18.
DROP A DOUBLE ALBUM WILL!! :call:
Let's not get carried away...only if every track is that good. No fillers or soundtrack songs!!
19. I just think it's something most emcees out grow after awhile. I don't see it as a weakness at all that freestyling dosen't seem 2 be one of his main focuses either. He's not living and breathing just music anymore. He's grown up, started a 2nd career with acting and has a family...who is honestly gonna keep up with freestyling. I defintly don't think Will has any freestyled verses on his albums. Will dose this thing that almost no rappers do anymore....STAY ON TOPIC. When u hear songs by most rappers these days, their topics are so lazy and sloppy that the songs aren't really about anything. Check most Luda, 50, Jay-Z songs. They talk about alot of crap that dosen't mean anything. The verses usually have nothing 2 do with each other. Will's songs have a certral focus on the topic and tell a story from the 1st line 2 the last...even on the party trax. It takes really good freeystyler and a quick mind 2 do a full song, much less a full verse totally focused on one topic and with more 2 say after the main ideas have been stressed. p.s. who actually thinks Jay-Z can freestyle?!? :eek4:
20. I'm pretty sure he's gonna be there. When there waz newz of him being there last week...i honestly didn't believe it. It just didn't seem right and i'm glad i waz right cuz i didn't catch...but u better believe i will Wed.
21. I really wanna go...but the closest one is 3-4 hours away.
22. Thanx 4 that!!! It's articles like that make me feel good. There is alot of doubters out there...so it's good 2 have your quotes backed up by fact. Posting the source is a good idea...u know how some people are around here. I like that Will mentioned his music has a more serious edge now...i think that's what made Willennium better than BWS and Born To Reign more personal than BWS (with the exception of "Just The Two of Us" and "Chasing Forever"). I think this album is gonna take off...and if it dosen't, at the least the music sounds like it'll be great. Hopefully it'll make lots of noise...calling 4 more music faster than his time on Columbia. :::patiently waits for Christmas:::
23. That's funny!! Of course i'm glad he's alright...otherwise i wouldn't thing it waz funny. Anothing thing....this has 2 be soooooooo old. He wrapped I, Robot a long time ago but since it's coming out now, they talk about all this stuff like it's new. The title of this topic mislead me 2 think something bad happened. Jada wazn't mad, she waz just acting the way females typically do 2 that kinda stuff. I know where Will is coming from those. He's a guy...sometimes guys are dumb and we just gotta try things. It's a male flaw, if i waz in his place, i'd probably do the same thing. What cracks me up is that Will is a grown man and he's trying 2 hide stuff like that from his wife even tho' he didn't do anything wrong. LIST OF THINGS 2 KEEP WILL AWAY FROM Skies Trackmasters Motorcycles
24. If i every read Horoscopes...i read off of them. They can be kinda inspirational or help u look at something in your life that might need work. Nothing more. When i hear people talking about the Horoscope like it has any substance exclustively 2 them and that it's why their personality is the way it is...i just get sick.
