  1. This is a fun interview with Queen Latifah. She talks about old school Hip-Hop, the digital age, 2Pac, MTV's Rock & Jock, Jazz, Living Single, Set It Off, and acting.
  2. It looks a little different from mine, but I'm sure it's legit. The information on it is that same that's on my copy, but the font style and color is different. I guess there's a variant in they were pressed up. It was two or three or years ago when I got mine, and the person I bought it from also sold me The Originals mixtape.
  3. I'm obviously not an expert on this topic, but I always wonder why artists sell their catalog. I feel like if you create something and/or perform on something, I'd want to own it and be in control of it. You read about some artists who would kill to own their catalog, having never owned it due to bad contracts. At the same time, you see other artists who are already rich, selling their catalog. It's just hard for me to wrap my head around.

The news was broken by The Wall Street Journal, which said Hipgnosis announced on Thursday it had purchased some of Timberlake’s biggest hits, including “SexyBack,” “Rock Your Body,” “Suit and Tie” and “Can’t Stop the Feeling.” “I am excited to be partnering with Merck [Mercuriadis] and Hipgnosis – he values artists and their creative work and has always been a strong supporter of songwriters and storytelling,” Timberlake said in a statement. ” I look forward to entering this next chapter.” The *NSYNC member is the latest pop star to sell off the rights to their biggest songs. Fellow pop stars Ryan Tedder and Bruno Mars recently sold off their catalogs as well, and in December Bruce Springsteen made headlines when he sold off his whole discography to Sony for a whopping $550 million. He had followed in the footsteps of Bob Dylan, who a year earlier had sold his entire catalog to Universal Music Publishing Group in 2020. Tina Turner additionally sold her catalog to BMG for $50 million in October, and Pink Floyd is rumored to be shopping around their catalog as well. Hipgnosis, who has become a massive buyer of music catalogs during this recent boom, had previously closed deals with Neil Young, Lindsay Buckingham and Red Hot Chili Peppers. “Justin’s incredible catalogue will join other amazing works at Hipgnosis which we know will serve as a great steward of his work,” Hipgnosis’s CEO and former music manager Mercuriadis said in a statement. “We look forward to a great partnership between Justin and Hipgnosis.”
  5. https://www.slashfilm.com/869984/bad-boys-4-isnt-on-hold-after-all-according-to-sony-chairman-tom-rothman/ Bad Boys 4 Isn't On Hold After All, According To Sony Chairman Tom Rothman BY DEBOPRIYAA DUTTA/MAY 20, 2022 1:48 PM EDT Fans of the "Bad Boys" franchise will be happy to know that "Bad Boys 4" is not on hold at all. Sony Chairman Tom Rothman explained that the film has been "in development and still is," per Deadline: "That movie's been in development and still is. There weren't any brakes to pump because the car wasn't moving. That was a very unfortunate thing that happened, and I don't think it's really my place to comment, except to say that I've known Will Smith for many years, and I know him to be a good person. That was an example of a very good person having a very bad moment, in front of the world. I believe his apology and regret is genuine, and I believe in forgiveness and redemption." The Will Smith Oscars debacle was the sole reason behind the rumors of "Bad Boys 4" being on hold, which Rothman addresses in his own way. The less we talk about the incident at this point, the better, as the debacle had managed to dominate the internet for months on end since the Academy Awards ceremony in March. The third film in the "Bad Boys" saga, "Bad Boys for Life," had garnered positive reviews after being stuck in developmental hell for years. Directed by Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah (Michael Bay helmed the first two films in the franchise), "Bad Boys for Life" saw the return of Will Smith and Martin Lawrence in their respective roles as Detectives Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett. Mike has a near-death experience after an attempted murder, leading the duo to attempt to figure out who is behind the attack. This leads them on a trail of dangerous assassins, forcing them to work with various parties in order to be able to get to the bottom of things. As the film ends with a major revelation about Mike, "Bad Boys 4" could potentially take up this particular storyline, which would obviously involve Smith and Lawrence reprising their roles. Per Rothman's statement, it seems that "Bad Boys 4" is in the works after all, and that we could possibly hear production updates about the fourth installment fairly soon. The cast for "Bad Boys for Life" included Paola Núñez as Lieutenant Rita Secada, Vanessa Hudgens as Kelly, Alexander Ludwig as Dorn, Charles Melton, Jacob Scipio as Armando Aretas, Kate del Castillo as Isabel 'La Bruja' Aretas, Nicky Jam as Lorenzo 'Zway-Lo' Rodríguez, Joe Pantoliano as Captain Conrad Howard, and Theresa Randle as Theresa Burnett. The film also includes special appearances from Michael Bay and DJ Khaled.
  6. Jeff did a remix for a song by Potatohead People featuring Posdnuos (De La Soul) Kapok. It was released digitally and as a 7" single.
  7. I can't remember if I've shared this before, but I've been meaning to for months. I'm not sure where this 2021 song comes from, other than being a single release. It appears to be released through a house music label that one of my friends works with, which would explain the genre of music. It was released digitally and on 7" vinyl single. It was mastered by Vidal Davis, formally of A Touch of Jazz.
  8. Red Table Talk is bringing awareness to fentanyl. https://www.facebook.com/redtabletalk/videos/715872172940589/
  9. I almost wish they'd shoot additional footage to address the incident. Will and David have always had great chemistry and his show is excellent. It would certainly be better than doing a red table talk.
  10. https://nypost.com/2022/05/05/will-smith-hops-into-hot-seat-with-david-letterman-interview/ Will Smith hops into hot seat with David Letterman interview By Samantha Ibrahim May 5, 2022 2:46pm Fans and critics will finally hear from Will Smith following the infamous Oscars slap. The actor is among the next round of celebrities appearing on David Letterman’s Netflix talk show, “My Next Guest Needs No Introduction.” Season 4 of the chat series drops on the streamer May 20. The six-episode season will also see stars such as Cardi B, Billie Eilish, Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Ryan Reynolds. The last time Letterman’s show hit Netflix was in October 2020. Smith, 53, has dealt with a lot on his plate recently, being known as the guy who slapped Chris Rock on live television, and subsequently losing out on upcoming film projects — even after taking home his first Oscar. The “King Richard” star caused a dramatic scene during the 94th Academy Awards on March 27, when he ran up on the stage at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles and bopped Rock, 57, in the face. AFP via Getty Images Season 4 of Letterman’s talk show drops on Netflix May 20. Netflix However, viewers shouldn’t expect Smith to open up about the incident during his interview with the former “Late Show” host. The episodes were filmed prior to March 2022. As a result of the “Gettin’ Jiggy Wit It” rapper’s actions, he was banned from the Oscars for 10 years. Smith smacked Rock because the comedian made a joke about his wife, Jada Pinkett-Smith’s bald head. The 50-year-old actress suffers from alopecia. Other A-listers baring their soul to Letterman, 75, have included Kim Kardashian, Robert Downey Jr., Lizzo, Kanye West, Jay-Z, George Clooney, Barack Obama and Dave Chappelle. Chappelle, meanwhile, became the second comedian to be attacked onstage and on camera since the Oscars incident. Earlier this week, the 48-year-old entertainer was assaulted by an unruly audience member at the Hollywood Bowl. He was not harmed in the frightening altercation, and the assailant was charged with assault with a deadly weapon.
  11. I thought I posted about this already, but I must have forgot. I'm really looking forward to this.
  12. I didn't expect anything further to come of this. Since Will came at a comedian, he needs to stay clear of that field for awhile.
  13. I wouldn't say the interview was awkward. It's just...bad. It sounds like they are just having a phone call, not an interview. The interviewer sucks and FP seems to bounce that (lack of) energy back. The interviewer almost seems like he's trying to annoy him by saying that it's a smaller venue. It's funny, because of all the many concerts I've gone to over the years, I've never gone to one at the 9:30 Club. There have been plenty of artists I've wanted to see there, but they they always seemed to lean into rock, grunge, and punk acts, which I don't listen to. I've only ever heard that it's not the kind of venue that tries to be overly fancy, but plenty of big names have played there. Miley Cyrus performed there when she was at her pop music peak. I find it a little strange that he canceled two sold out shows. I've never heard of someone in Hip-Hop being critical of the venue....especially in those days. I think it's funny that they turned down his request for free tickets when he was one of the biggest stars in the world. They should have been like "if you re-book your two shows with us". I would have been at both.
  14. I see what he's saying about re-recording music. As long as the production is right, when other genres record their music, there's a chance it can come out well, even if it's not quite as magical as the original. I have some re-recorded songs by TLC, Boyz II Men, Soul IV Real, All-4-One, Montell Jordan, as well as Taylor Swift. Talylor Swift did it right. Of course, she has the excess money to make it happen. All-4-One's are well done too. The others are "okay". There's not bad, but there is something missing, especially from the songs from the early 90's that TLC and Boyz II Men did. You can't simply re-create that sound. At least not easily. DMX's re-recorded hits are definitely underwhelming. I feel like with Hip-Hop, you need to re-produce it and remix it to a degree to make it sound authentic when re-recording. It's sad how terrible the industry is to artists. Last I read, DJ Jazzy Jeff + Fresh Prince receive nothing from the sales on their music with Jive Records. I believe they had to sign it away when leaving Jive, even though Jive didn't want to support the "Men In Black" song or new music from them.

Snoop said of Swift. "She remastered her album. Why? Because she wasn't making revenues off of that album." By Hannah Dailey 04/22/2022 Snoop Dogg on Full Send PodcastCourtesy Photo Snoop Dogg almost took a cue from another artist who pretty much couldn’t be more his opposite: Taylor Swift. On a new episode of the Full Send podcast that dropped Wednesday (April 20), the 50-year-old rapper talked about how his plan for Death Row Records, which he acquired in February, will give artists proper revenue for their music in order to avoid what happened with Swift’s masters. Speaking on his goal to increase artist profits by making Death Row an exclusively NFT label, Snoop cited the “All Too Well” singer as a “perfect example” of an artist finding similar workarounds to the industry’s antiquated contracts that restrict them from making adequate money off their music. “She ain’t an old artist at all — she’s quite new,” he said of Swift, who began re-recording her first six albums after her master recordings were sold to Scooter Braun against her wishes in 2019. “What did she do?” he continued. “She remastered her album. Why? Because she wasn’t making revenues off of that album.” One of the show’s hosts proceeded to ask Snoop whether he was trying to bash Braun. “I ain’t firing shots at nobody. Scooter’s my friend, I’m just giving the truth,” the rapper replied. “This is public information, am I lying? Ask her why did she redo her album? Because she couldn’t get finances so she redid her album as a way of ‘I’ll make this for my fans, and they’ll support me because those are my vocals, this is my music, and I should be making money off of my project when you buy it.'” The “Drop It Like It’s Hot” rapper continued on to reveal that he almost did the exact same thing with his 1993 record Doggystyle. “I was going to remaster my album,” he said. “My son had told me years ago, he was like, ‘You should just remaster Doggystyle, Pops, f–k all that. Just remaster it, you ain’t gotta worry about all that.’ “But I didn’t want to go that approach, because you can’t remaster Doggystyle like you can remaster them R&B songs. That s–t was a feeling, that s–t was a moment. You can’t recapture that. We’re trying to re-enact that s–t all over again, so I had to go get my s–t back.” Listen to Snoop’s full appearance on “Full Send Podcast” below:
  16. Wow, I never saw this either. I watched Martin religiously, until the third or fourth season. This must have aired during the season where I started missing episodes.
  17. That's not a bad idea, though I think I'd like to keep the music and the acting separate.
  18. Dia Dipasupil/Getty Images CHUCK D BIG UPS WILL SMITH & DJ JAZZY JEFF AMID CHRIS ROCK OSCARS SLAP CONTROVERSY Published on: Apr 17, 2022, 10:21 AM by Kyle Eustice 2 Will Smith has been constant internet fodder since March 27 when he infamously smacked Chris Rock across the face during the 94th Annual Academy Awards. Some have taken sides, while others choose to remain neutral. Public Enemy legend Chuck D falls into the latter. On Saturday (April 16), Chuck shared a tweet showing love to both Smith and his partner-in-rhyme DJ Jazzy Jeff. As The Fresh Prince & DJ Jazzy Jeff, the beloved duo penned hits such as “Parents Just Don’t Understand” and the Kool and the Gang-sampling “Summertime.” “Will Smith is the only mc I ever heard others around him murmur’ yo when is he gonna stop rhyming?” he wrote. “No lie I’m serious @djjazzyjeff215 … Say whatever Will Smith probably the most rhymingest dude I ever met. Period…dude can rap all damn day … fact @djjazzyjeff215 also is endless talent all damn day long.” DJ Jazzy Jeff addressed the controversial “slap heard around the world” earlier this month during a Closed Sessions Legend Conversation at Dorian’s Through the Record Shop in Chicago. While he defended his partner-in-rhyme, he also noted it was out of character for the Academy Award-winning actor. “Don’t get it twisted that it was something he was proud of,” Jazzy Jeff said. “It was a lapse in judgment, you know? I think the thing that I’ve realized is I don’t know too many people that has had the least amount of lapse of judgment than him. “I can name 50 times that [Smith] should’ve smacked the **** out of somebody and he didn’t. So for him to have a lapse in judgment, he’s human. And I think a lot of the criticism comes from the people who don’t think people like that are human.” Smith has since resigned from the Academy, apologized to Chris Rock publicly and been banned from attending the Academy Awards for the next 10 years. https://hiphopdx.com/news/id.69610/title.chuck-d-big-ups-will-smith-dj-jazzy-jeff-amid-chris-rock-oscars-slap-controversy?fbclid=IwAR2cI7s8sgQcevEU9moC7LMutSGECFKgLlKgZDUHguAmxoOjvPM_mISARFU#
  19. DJ Kay Slay Dies Following Battle With COVID-19 Kay Slay was a pivotal figure within Hip-Hop's mixtape culture and released six studio albums during his career. BY PREEZY BROWN APRIL 18, 2022 2:02AM DJ Kay Slay attends the In Arms Reach fundraiser at The Griffin on March 5, 2012 in New York City. Andy Kropa/Getty Images The legendary graffiti artist and Hip-Hop icon, Keith Grayson aka DJ Kay Slay has succumbed to medical complications due to a lengthy battle with COVID-19. The East Harlem native, who passed away on Easter Sunday (April 17), was 55 years-old at the time of his death. Rumors of Kay Slay’s passing began to circulate on Sunday evening, with well known music artist manager, Wack 100 reportedly confirming the news, along with veteran Hip-Hop promoter Van Silk. Last week, Wack gave an update on Kay Slay’s condition, writing that the DJ was “still fighting” in a post on Instagram. “He’s been off the #ECMO machine for a couple weeks now,” Wack added. “Let’s continue our prayers as our brother continues to fight.” Slay was a pivotal figure in the Hip-Hop community, getting his start as a graffiti artist, using the tag name “Dez,” before making his Kay Slay moniker as a DJ on the mixtape circuit during the late ’90s and early aughts. Signing a recording deal with Columbia Records, Slay (also known as “The Drama King” and “Mr. Smack Your Favorite DJ”) released his major label debut, The Streetsweeper, Vol. 1, in 2003, which peaked at No. 4 on Billboard’s Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. His sophomore release, The Streetsweeper, Vol. 2, dropped the following year and reached No. 10 on that chart. He released six studio albums during his career, the most recent being The Soul Controller, which dropped in December 2021, shortly before his hospitalization. VIBE sends out condolences to the family and friends of DJ Kay Slay. RIP. https://www.vibe.com/news/entertainment/dj-kay-slay-dies-battled-with-covid-19-1234657476/
  20. https://blackamericaweb.com/2022/04/14/sony-bad-boys-film-believed-not-successful-black-lead-actors/?fbclid=IwAR3Rf9apgjkmCycUMColWcEuX74iHbNmK3OWeEWAZqR-21Fgbmj8QQlpv3c ‘Bad Boys’ Director Says Sony “Had No Faith” In The Film’s Success With Two Black Stars Keenan "HIGz" Higgins Even though Will Smith is going through a career crisis of sorts for infamously slapping fellow veteran actor Chris Rock at this year’s Academy Awards, there’s no denying his existing roster of hit leading roles in Hollywood. For many, the standout of those is his third-ever feature film, Bad Boys, which co-stars comedic legend Martin Lawrence. Over 25 years and two successful sequels later, with a fourth currently in pre-production, director Michael Bay says the $840 million franchise’s longtime distributor Sony Pictures originally didn’t think it would even be a success with two Black actors in the lead roles. While promoting his new film Ambulance, Bay spoke to Entertainment Weekly briefly about his directorial debut with Bad Boys. He was asked about his now-signature “hero shot” that dramatically circles the characters at a prominent climax in the movie. Bay said Bad Boys is where it started, and the inspiration was fueled by Sony’s doubt and disrespect for them during principal photography. “Sony didn’t believe in the movie, because two Black actors don’t sell overseas,” he said of their apprehensions, going to add, “And they shut me down, literally. They shut the power off. That’s how rude they were on this movie.” Take a look below at how one shot and a determination to prove Sony wrong led Michael Bay to success with Bad Boys and one of the most imitated cinematic scenes in action film history, via EW: “So I remember we’re driving our van. The line producer, he didn’t like me. I don’t think he liked anybody. I said, ‘Stop the car! Stop the van.’ And he’s coming up to me, the line producer, saying, ‘What are you doing, Michael? We don’t have time for this.’ I’m like, ‘This is going to be the trailer shot.’ For some reason, I just came up with this shot as we’re driving. And I said, ‘Where’s the circle trolley? Get the circle trolley.’ And we made this round move and you guys rise up and it became a very famous shot. People try to imitate it, but it was a seminal moment. ‘Bad Boys’ literally changed the game on Black actors. It’s the first movie that really traveled overseas.” As we now know, Bad Boys would go on to make $141.4 million at the box office on a $19 million budget and solidify both Smith and Lawrence as certified Black leading males in Hollywood. We bet Sony is glad they didn’t go with their initial bias!
  21. In this particular circumstance, I don't think racism is part of the decision either. Will's actions occurred at the event and on television. Most, but not all, of the people that are being compared due to poor behavior/decisions did what they did in their personal life or on the set. The academy can only police the behavior that happened at their event. Will picked the wrong time and the wrong place to make a mistake. I can see all perspectives, whether ones thinks banning him from 10 years was too much, just right, or too little. At this point, who cares? It's done. Will has accepted it.
  22. This is another dope one. It's far better than any of the doctored 2Pac songs we got as we went into the 2000's. Do you ever slide MP3s of your remixes, cuz I would ride out to this with the windows down.
  23. Yeah, I want new music to be a tightly contained project. I'm not saying his family isn't musically talented. Obviously they are, but I have no desire to hear them on a new album.
