Man oh man!” Foxx produced this marvelous documentary, “Thunder Soul,” about a famously funky high school jazz band in the Texas of the 1970s, and we talked at length about the importance of music education in a child’s life. And at the end of that conversation, I asked him a little about “Django Unchained,” the Quentin Tarantino “Southern” Spaghetti Western that Foxx will star in with Leonardo DiCaprio, Kerry Washington, Zoe Bell, Samuel L. Jackson and Christoph Waltz. Foxx has the title role, an ex-slave out for revenge on a hateful master. Kevin Costner just backed out of playing the bad guy. Will Smith had been in line to star in the film, but he also backed out. That left the door open to Foxx. A regular commenter on this blog suggested I ask “Did he send Will Smith a fruit basket” for doing that, and Foxx — who has a sense of humor, laughed at that. “You know what? As a matter of fact, Will’s a good friend of mine. And he’s always been gracious, that way. Not to get into all the gory details, but when he gives up a part, he looks out for you. Without Will Smith, I probably wouldn’t have a movie career. With that ‘Ali’ joint we did with Michael Mann, he was like, ‘I’m not doing the movie if you don’t pick Foxx to play Bundini Brown.’ I always tip my hat to Will Smith. Will Smith popped into the Cheesecake Factory in Sherman Oaks, Calif., to order takeout food. While ordering, though, the actor bumped into NBA star Shaquille O'Neal, and the two joked around, sharing playful banter, according to an onlooker. The I Am Legend actor organised a small bash on Saturday (17Sep11) to celebrate Jada's age milestone and he had a touching treat in store for the birthday girl and party guests - an hour-long film featuring photos from the star's childhood, as well as anecdotes from her old pals in Baltimore, Maryland. An insider tells Us Weekly magazine, "It (the party) was just for close friends and immediate family. Tisha Campbell-Martin vouches for the Smiths Tisha Campbell-Martin talks about Will and Jada Tisha Campbell-Martin knows a thing or two about successful Hollywood marriages, and the former “My Wife & Kids” star confirms that everything’s fine with Will and Jada Pinkett-Smith. “We don’t pay attention to the dumb-a$$ rumors. We actually think they’re fricking funny,” said Tisha, who’s been married to hubby Duane Martin for 21 years. According to Tisha, rumors of breakups are as common for Hollywood couples as red carpets and award shows. “Once or twice a year the rumors come out about me and Duane breaking up. Just a few weeks prior to the rumor [that Jada had cheated on Will], someone called me and said they heard we were divorcing. It’s the same way with the Smiths. It makes us laugh because we are so incredibly committed to our spouses, and we work really hard in every single facet of our relationships,” Tisha told Sister 2 Sister.
