  3. Willow Smith’s Big Apple Retail Romp Looking to spend some of her hard-earned cash, Willow Smith was spotted shopping in New York City yesterday (June 30). The “Whip My Hair” fashionista picked out some new duds as she combed the racks in several East Village boutiques. In career news, Willow’s famous father Will Smith is reportedly courting his “Men in Black III” costar Emma Thompson to pen a screenplay for a remake of “Annie.” And of course, Willow would play the lead role. Talks are said to be underway and things could get started as early as later this year. http://celebrity-gossip.net/willow-smith/willow-smith%E2%80%99s-big-apple-retail-romp-519964

  9. Will Smith Wants Denzel Washington for His Katrina Drama The American Can For two years, Will Smith has been trying to bring the Hurricane Katrina drama The American Can to the big screen. Though he was once signed on to produce and possibly star in the film, Vulture now hears that he's taking a strictly behind the scenes position and intends to offer Denzel Washington the lead role. The script, by The Blind Side writer-director John Lee Hancock (who will also direct Can), follows the real-life harrowing ordeal suffered by the residents of the American Can apartment complex when the levees broke. Trapped by eleven feet of fetid water for two days, an a 6’7” ex-Marine named John Keller stayed behind to ward off looters and help care for the dozens of aged or infirm residents who couldn’t evacuate. After spending two futile days trying to flag down help, Keller ultimately succeeded in getting desperately needed food, water and medical supplies air-dropped onto the complex only after finally moving dozens of aged and infirm -- and notably, white -- residents onto the rooftop of American Can to catch rescuers attention. (Their story was told in the documentary New Orleans: My Home, My Life, My Love.) Smith had been planning on starring as Keller himself, but his decision to topline M. Night Shyamlan’s One Thousand A.E. (which recently pushed from September to a January 2012 start) meant waiting even longer to tell the tale, and insiders say Smith didn’t want too much time to go by. We’re told Washington, currently filming the Universal spy thriller Safe House, is giving notes, and based on that, Smith and Sony will decide if it's a good match. http://nymag.com/daily/entertainment/2011/06/will_smith_denzel_washington_a.html

  11. Seems another lost opportunity for Will.. DiCaprio With Beyoncé In 'A Star Is Born'? EXCLUSIVE: I hear Clint Eastwood is using his time with Leonardo DiCaprio on the J Edgar Hoover biopic to discuss the director's new Warner Bros project A Star Is Born. Clint is hoping to team Leo with Beyoncé, who's already set for the musical. Clint is producing through Malpaso as well as helming the script by Will Fetters. Producers are Billy Gerber and Basil Iwanyk and Jon Peters (who made the infamous version with Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson). The project has been at WB for several years, and there'd been talk of pairing Beyoncé and Will Smith. But casting Leo as the male lead would make for a much more interesting movie. There have been a trio of A Star Is Born versions made since the 1930s, the last one coming in 1976 with Kristofferson playing the boozer and Streisand the wannabe. Or even #4 if you consider What Price Hollywood (1932) made by George Cukor, which is often forgotten. http://www.deadline.com/2011/06/leo-dicaprio-opposite-beyonce-in-a-star-is-born/

  16. Will Smith Wants Emma Thompson to Adapt Annie For His Daughter Leapin' lizards! It's been almost thirty years since John Huston's adaptation of the Broadway smash Annie hit movie theaters, but now insiders tell Vulture exclusively that Will Smith and Jay-Z are in negotiations with Oscar-winning screenwriter and actress Emma Thompson to re-adapt the screenplay for an updated version of the musical that would star Smith's youngest progeny, Willow. If the deal with Thompson goes through, the project will be the first fruit of the partnership between Smith and Jay-Z that Columbia Pictures announced back in January, but it won't be the first time that these principals have worked together: Thompson is currently co-starring with Smith as Agent O in Men in Black III, while Jay-Z, Smith and his spouse Jada Pinkett-Smith all served co-producers of the Broadway musical Fela!, nominated for 11 Tony Awards last year. No word on whether Thompso (who recently scripted and starred in Universal Pictures' Nanny McPhee franchise) will also write herself into a role as the orphanage director who loves booze almost as much as she hates children, but here's hoping. http://nymag.com/daily/entertainment/2011/06/emma_thompson_annie.html

  19. What Will Smith Taught Me About Marriage Will Smith and Jada Pinkett-Smith recently stopped by the ESSENCE office to say hello to our team. In case you were wondering, yes, they are just as awesome as you would imagine they would be. They’re so in love and dedicated to one another. While Jada chatted with the rest of the staff about her awesome new season of 'HawthoRNe' on TNT (a must-see!), I had the pleasure of keeping her husband company while he waited. Seriously! Being a newlywed, I was thrilled to get a chance to chat with a man who has 13 solid years of marriage under his belt. In the thirty minutes that Will and I sat at my desk chopping it up I learned quite a few valuable lessons on love, marriage, and keeping your man happy. They’re such gems I just had to share them. Listen up ladies, you may want to take some notes. Here’s what Will Smith taught me about marriage. If You Marry Your Best Friend You’re Good Every man wants to marry his homie, Will explained. A lot of women will impress them, but it’s the one they can always laugh with and be themselves around that will ultimately impress them most. If you can be yourselves around each other 100 percent of the time and they make you life like no one else can you’ll never have a dull moment together. Remind Him of What He Has When you start to feel that you’re nagging your husband to the point of no return and nothing you’re saying is getting through Will suggests you try a new approach. Hold him close, look him right in the eyes, and tell him that you love him, you’re right there, and you always will be. BUT you need him to pick his socks up, right now. As Will puts it, it’s important to remind him that your request is coming from a good place, and what you want is a small thing in the grand scheme of things. Um, genius! All Men Need a Little Space “If you don’t give your husband thirty minutes to himself when he first gets home, he’ll stop coming home,” Will told me, straight up. (You’re thinking, no way, right? I did too!) When I asked Will when a wife is supposed to say her piece, he responded, “anytime after that”. Will reminded me that everyone’s home needs to feel like a happy place and it won’t if you’re “greeted with negativity” every time you enter the door. Touché, Will. Talk about a pause for the cause. Focus on Balance and Excitement Always According to Will and Jada’s way of thinking about marriage, maintaining a happy union isn’t just about making time for one another. It’s about making the time count too. Excitement and mystery are everything, he said. Surprise them, let them know you love them, and laugh together. Do whatever it takes to put a smile on their face. http://www.essence.com/2011/06/20/what-will-smith-taught-me-about-marriage/#ixzz1Q6ge9JPO
  20. Variety confirms it: http://www.variety.com/article/VR1118038968
  21. Well, that's very subjective. I mean, for me, personally, there have been some great movies since 'Enemy Of The State', such as 'Ali', 'The Pursuit Of Happyness' and 'I Am Legend' (in fact, I like these more than 'Enemy Of The State'). But again, it's something very subjective and everyone has his/her own opinion, his/her own taste. That said, Will has proved he can be a very good actor when he wants to. He just makes mistakes when it comes to choosing great roles, roles that can change his career. But we're fans, we just can't stop supporting him because he doesn't do the movies we want him to do. Like Turntable said, while there are many fans unhappy with his decision of not doing this movie, there are many other fans who can't wait to see 'Men In Black 3'. It's all about taste.
  22. Why is Will gonna retire, just because he turned this role down? Come on Rad.. there will be more projects in the future.
