Justin Bieber Prepares for Grammys, Plays Big Brother to Jaden Smith Justin Bieber, 16, has officially taken Will Smith's 12-year-old son Jaden under his wing. The two young stars, busy preparing for a Grammys performance together with Usher, have been bonding all weekend as Justin shows Jaden the ropes. "Justin is still young, but he's dealt with both the joys and pitfalls of fame," a source backstage at the Grammys tells PopEater. "He is playing big brother, and making sure Jayden is prepared for what's to come." The pals, who collaborated last year on Bieber's single 'Never Say Never,' have also been hanging out off stage too, showing up to random theaters in Los Angeles to surprise fans attending Bieber's new 3D movie, 'Never Say Never.' With Usher mentoring both singers and anchoring their Grammys performance, the two are in good hands as they get ready to hit the stage on Sunday night. "The performance will be fun," the source says, adding that the number will feature Bieber playing acoustically, before a segue into a more uptempo groove. "This is Justin's moment to show the world, especially those who never believed in him, that he's very talented. Trust me, you won't want to miss this one." Bieber is nominated for Best New Artist and Best Pop Vocal Album, pitted against the likes of Lady Gaga, John Mayer, Katy Perry and Susan Boyle. "Usher is really pulling for these wins, because it's an essential step in moving Justin's career forward from teen hearthrob to respected artist," the source reveals. http://www.popeater.com/2011/02/12/justin-bieber-grammys-usher-jaden-smith/

Justin Bieber Finds A Mentor In Will Smith & Family: They’ve ‘Been Really Amazing’ Justin Bieber is releasing his first movie – “Never Say Never” — this Friday, and now that he’s days away from becoming a box office superstar, the teen sensation revealed to “The Billy Bush Show” that he’s found a mentor in Will Smith and the big screen star’s family. “The Smith family’s been really amazing to me and really supportive in everything I’m doing,” Justin told Access Hollywood’s Billy Bush in an interview set to air on radio’s “The Billy Bush Show” on Wednesday night. “Their family’s just really nice and really good people.” While Willow Smith will shortly go out on tour of Europe with Justin, and Jaden Smith recently was featured last year in the Canadian cutie’s single, “Never Say Never,” it’s papa Smith — Will — who is helping the 16-year-old find his footing in the feature film world. “He’s definitely looking at different scripts for me and trying to develop stuff,” Justin revealed of the “Men In Black” franchise superstar. Despite reports that the Biebs has already signed on to make a project with Will and his company Overbrook, Justin told Billy the two do not yet have an official project together. “No, not at the moment,” he said. “We’re just kind of looking at stuff.” But Bieber will do more than look as the days go by. The recent two-time “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation” guest star said he wants to expand his repertoire to include more acting. “I would definitely love to get more into acting and explore that area,” he said. And the teen phenom has no plans on limiting himself either. “I just want to be an all around entertainer and… be the ultimate entertainer, whether that’s singing, acting, dancing or performing,” he said. While he is focused on his career, Justin is also making time for himself. To find out what Justin revealed about his personal life – including which woman makes him melt with her spaghetti bolognese and whether he is in a relationship – tune into Westwood One’s “The Billy Bush Show” on Wednesday night. The movie, “Never Say Never,” opens February 11. http://www.accesshollywood.com/justin-bieber-reveals-will-smith-helping-him-find-his-footing-in-feature-film-world_article_43499

Brad ‘Warbucks’ Pitt? Willow Smith Wants Star For ‘Annie’ Brad Pitt is no stranger to adopting children – but is he ready to play Willow Smith’s adoptive onscreen dad in the “Annie” remake? Access Hollywood asked 10-year-old Willow – star of the upcoming remake – who she wants to play Oliver “Daddy” Warbucks and she’s hoping “the sun will come out tomorrow” on one of Hollywood’s biggest stars. “Brad Pitt!” she told Access at Justin Bieber’s “Never Say Never” premiere on Monday night in Los Angeles. As for details on the project, which dad Will Smith is producing with Jay-Z and Sony Pictures, the young star stayed tight-lipped. “We’re just going to have to wait for that! You’re just going to have to wait,” she said. In the meantime, Willow said she’s drawing inspiration from fellow young star Justin, whom she was excited to celebrate with at his massive movie premiere. “I get to learn from him in a way, when he’s performing and doing what he does, so that the crowd gets excited,” Willow told Access. “So, I get to learn from him a lot.” WATCH VIDEO! http://www.accesshollywood.com/willow-smith-wants-brad-pitt-to-play-daddy-warbucks-in-annie-remake_article_43520

'Glee's Ryan Murphy Courted To Direct 'Annie' With Willow Smith EXCLUSIVE: Glee creator Ryan Murphy is Sony Pictures’ top choice to direct a re-imagining of the Broadway musical Annie, with Willow Smith playing the lovable orphan. The project was recently set at Sony Pictures by Overbrook Entertainment partners James Lassiter, Ken Stovitz, Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith in the joint venture they formed with Jay-Z to generate films. Sony Pictures has made the approach to Murphy, but it’s early days. Though Willow Smith is a relative newcomer to the screen (she has I Am Legend and Kitt Kittredge: An American Girl on her resume), she scored a hit record with Whip My Hair!, and Sony's bet on her brother Jaden in the Overbrook-produced Karate Kid remake resulted in a big hit. Murphy is also well regarded at Sony, where he directed Eat, Pray, Love with Julia Roberts and made a $5 million deal to write and direct another picture with her. Murphy’s Glee success has turned him into the go-to guy on studio musicals, as he’s been courted by Fox for a Rocky Horror Picture Show remake, as well as to possibly turn the Broadway stage hit Wicked into a film at Universal. http://www.deadline.com/2011/02/glees-ryan-murphy-courted-to-direct-annie-with-willow-smith/

Gary Moore (left), Phil Lynott (centre) and Scott Gorham as Thin Lizzy Former Thin Lizzy guitarist Gary Moore has died at a Costa del Sol hotel. The musician was found dead in his room at the luxury Kempinski Resort Hotel in Estepona in the early hours of this morning. A postmortem is due to carried out later today in the nearby city of Malaga. Moore (58) from Belfast is understood to have been on holiday at the time of his death. A spokesman for the British Foreign Office said: “We are aware of the death of a British national in Estepona. We stand ready to offer consular assistance.” Moore played with Thin Lizzy for several periods as well working separately with the band's lead singer Phil Lynott, who died in 1986 after falling into a heroin-induced coma. Moore worked with a number of leading artists, including Bob Dylan. He had a string of top 40 hits in the 1970s and 1980s including Parisienne Walkways in 1979 and Out in the Fields in 1985. Bandmates of Moore this evening paid tribute to a “great player and great guy” following his death. Thin Lizzy founding member Brian Downey said he was stunned by the news. “I am in total shock,” he said. “He will always be in my thoughts and prayers and I just can’t believe he is gone.” After his time with the Irish rock band, Moore went on to forge a successful solo career and was still actively touring. His death was confirmed with a poignant message on the star’s official website. “It is with deep sorrow and regret, that we have to announce that Gary Moore passed away while on holiday in Spain last night,” it stated. “Our thoughts are with his children, family and friends at this sad time.” Despite his solo ventures and numerous collaborations with other bands and artists, it is Moore’s time with Thin Lizzy that he will be best remembered. He joined the band in 1973 after the sudden departure of guitarist Eric Bell but only played with them for four months. Four years later he returned and went on to play on the band’s Black Rose album. Thin Lizzy guitarist Scott Gorham said it been a pleasure to share a stage with him. “Playing with Gary during the Black Rose era was a great experience, he was a great player and a great guy,” he said. “I will miss him.” Thin Lizzy’s legendary frontman Phil Lynott died in 1986 after battling drink and drug problems. The band reformed at various times since then and continues to tour. Moore played with some of his former bandmates five years ago. Downey, who is currently on tour with Thin Lizzy, added: “I have known Gary since 1967 when he was in (the band) Platform Three and he’s been an amazing friend ever since. “It was a pleasure to play with Gary again in 2006 after his days with Lizzy.” http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/breaking/2011/0206/breaking25.html ----- Sad news for music fans. RIP Gary

I just wanted to share this interview with Will from back in the day. Very interesting, I had never read before his opinion on Janet Hubert. Hope you guys like it! (at least those who hadn't read it yet :P ) Will Smith Talks Retirement From Rap, Ending The Fresh Prince & Jada Pinkett [1996] If you follow my tumblr blog, you’d know that I’m really big on quotes and I spend a lot of time reading old interviews from people that I admire. Which brings me to an article I read on Will Smith in Ebony Magazine’s August 1996 issue. At the time, Will Smith had just finished the movies Bad Boy, Six Degrees of Separation, and Independence Day. He had also decided to end his role on The Fresh Prince of Bel Air because his experiences in real life had outgrown his character. (He felt as though his role was a regression for him). He had also decided to retire from rap because he was disgusted that the genre had become ”socially degenerate and misogynistic”. In the interview, he discusses his transition from television to film, advice he received from Denzel Washington and his relationship with Jada Pinkett. He also revealed that he was bothered that Janet Hubert-Whitten felt as though he had her removed from the show and the biggest lesson he learned from his father. Check out excerpts from the lengthy interview below: On retiring from music When I was doing it, rap was kind of uplifting, and now it seems to be completely ignorant and socially degenerate and misogynistic. It’s very different from the rap world hat I grew up in….Now rap music is just bizarre. It’s gone beyond reality, and it’s some kind of bizarre, sick reality that just, I don’t know, it’s no good at all…..I think I’m kind of retired from music. On ending the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air I felt like it was time to end the show. We had a nice run. I did Six Degrees and I did Bad Boys, and I was working on Independence Day, and the television show just felt confining. You’re pretty much one character, and there are not many peaks and valleys, just pretty much the same old same old. And I wanted to go out while we were good. You get up to eight or nine seasons and then you’re struggling. I wanted to go out solid, while we were still funny. On outgrowing his character When I started doing the The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, I was 20 years old. Inside those years, I went through three careers-music, television, movies, I got married, had a baby, divorced. It’s like I did a whole lot of living in that time. My life experiences are so far advanced beyond the character’s life experiences. It was almost like a regression for me to play the character. On The Rumors that He Had Janet Hubert-Whitten, (Aunt Viv) Fired From The Show That wasn’t me. Janet Hubert-Whitten was an incredible actress. She brought so much sprit and fun and warmth to The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. She made that set a home. She was really special. Of course, there was pain in her not returning to the show and all that but then there was the thing that she thought it was me. That kind of irritated me a little bit, but people will make their own beds, and they are going to have to sleep in them. I didn’t have anything to do with it. She just never believed that. I think the show suffered with the loss of Janet Hubert-Whitten. On if he’d be returning to television At this point I’m looking forward to working in the film world. I enjoy making movies. It allows you to be someone different every time you step up to the camera. You know, television is a medium designed for mediocrity, whereas when you’re making a film, you have much more of an opportunity to achieve aesthetic perfection, or as close to that as you can get. You just have time to work on it. On advice from Denzel Washington I learned a valuable lesson in that you do the audience a disservice if you don’t completely commit to the character. If you are not going to commit then don’t take it. On Jada Pinkett (they were married a year later on New Years Eve) I have a wonderful woman in my life right now. She’s so intelligent. She’s very in touch with her emotions, which allows me to be in touch with mine. She helps me deal with everything that I have to deal with. She makes everything okay. No matter how difficult it gets, she always has something kind to say or a warm hug, or she’ll cry with you if you feel like crying. But she’ll also punch somebody in the face if they do something to me. My No. 1 attraction to Jada is intellectual. She’s just someone whom I can talk to about anything. I’ve never been able to step outside of my maleness to share myself with someone. She’s the first person with whom I’ve been able to break that down. On The Lesson He Learned From His Father; “Never Say You Can’t Do Something” He says he remembers one period in particular, when he was 15, when his father, who felt he “could fix anything,” insisted that he and his younger brother tear down and then rebuild a deteriorating brick wall. Through the summer and then after school in the fall and winter, Smith says, he and his brother built that wall “one brick at a time,” even mixing the cement themselves. And there were times, he says, when he doubted if they would ever finish, times when he thought his father had gone mad. When the wall was complete, he recalls, it looked great and they were proud of their work. “Dad told me and my brother, “Now don’t you all ever tell me you can’t do something.” I look back on that a lot of times in my life when I think I won’t be able to do something and I tell myself, “One brick at a time.” On his mom & dad being his heroes There are individual personality traits of celebrities and sports stars and people whom I admire, but the only people I ever idolized are my parents. On his life & success I work hard. I work very hard. A lot of times people say some people are just lucky. I don’t consider my success luck. When I was 16 and everybody else was going to parties and having fun, I said, “Okay, if I’m going to a party, I might as well get paid for it. So I became a D.J I’m very comfortable with my life and I’m very comfortable with life in general. I think that if you put out good energy, you get good energy back. I just try to constantly put out good energy, and it comes back tenfold. Almost 15 years later and this guy has built an amazing empire. Love it! http://necolebitchie.com/2011/02/02/bitchie-throwback-will-smith-talks-retirement-from-rap-ending-the-fresh-prince-jada-pinkett-1996/
