Will Smith says his Karate Kid star son can handle fame Hollywood actor Will Smith has said he is confident that his son Jaden can cope with the pressures of fame. Jaden, who has just turned 12, appears alongside martial arts legend Jackie Chan in the remake of The Karate Kid. "He grew up in this industry so it's not foreign to him. He understands that this is a family business," said Smith, ahead of the film's UK premiere. "He didn't have the shock and the radical life change that child actors usually have coming into the business." The Karate Kid is a remake of the 1984 original, and was shot entirely in China. Despite its title, the movie is about how a bullied boy (Jaden Smith) learns kung fu from a maintenance man played by Chan. Asked if he wanted to be a bigger star than his father, Jaden told the BBC: "'I'm going to try!" Jackie Chan - who has appeared in more than 100 action films since the 1970s - said Jaden had a lot of potential to be a big star. "He's young. He can sing, he can rap, he can dance, he can fight, he can act," he said. Star pressure Jaden - the son of Will and actress Jada Pinkett Smith - was last seen on the big screen opposite Keanu Reeves in The Day The Earth Stood Still. He also appeared alongside his father in The Pursuit of Happyness (2006). Asked how big a star he thought Jaden could become, Will Smith joked: "If one more person calls me the Karate Kid's dad, then Men in Black III is coming out immediately!" Pinkett Smith, a producer on Karate Kid alongside her husband, said: "One of the advantages that Jaden has, that a lot child stars have not, is that his parents have been doing this for a long time - so we really understand the industry and the do's and don'ts. "When your dad is still the biggest movie star in the world it keeps everything really grounded. He won't be paying any bills anytime soon." Will Smith added: "Child stars are generally broken by the pressure of being the breadwinner of a household at 14 or 16 years old. "I hope that we have a bit of handle on it. We're focusing very closely and paying attention to his energy and his desire and his love for it." At a press conference in London, Smith turned to his son and asked: "How are we doing, parenting wise?" Jaden said: "I think you should let me stay out longer..." The Karate Kid is released in the UK on 28 July. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-10650630 ----- Will Smith's tears of pride Will Smith ''boo-hoos'' every time he sees his 12-year-old son Jaden appear on the cinema screen. Will Smith cries whenever he sees his son Jaden on the big screen. The 41-year-old actor - who produced the 12-year-old actor's latest work 'The Karate Kid' alongside his wife Jada Pinkett Smith - takes delight in seeing how hard the youngster loves to work and admits he and the movie's other star Jackie Chan were constantly pushing him harder. Will told BANG Showbiz: "I don't choke back emotion, I boo-hoo every time I see him. It doesn't even matter. "He's so disciplined and so hard working that it's hard not to push him for more. There's no telling what this kid could do. Jackie Chan and I were having our little private meetings about how to work around mummy. But it was such a wonderful experience. That movie really chokes me up." The 'Men In Black' actor - who also has nine-year-old daughter Willow with Jada - also joked his son has the best characteristics of both of his parents. He said: "He's truly his own being. The best of Jada and I. It's just amazing, amazing that you can go to Mexico, drink some tequila, and then he shows up nine months later. It's amazing." However, while filming the action movie - a re-imagining of the popular 80s movie series - work had to be extended by an extra month, something Will was not brave enough to tell Jaden. He said: "We got toward the end of the film and it got extended by an extra month. So you tell an 11 year old that we are going to have to stay for an extra month when he was getting ready to go home. Leave that to mommy!" http://entertainment.stv.tv/showbiz/187110-will-smiths-tears-of-pride/

Men in Black rents outer space in E. Williamsburg Producers behind third installment of Will Smith movie franchise take nearly 100,000 square feet of interior and exterior space to construct and store alien vehicles and other props. Columbia Pictures will be constructing and storing props for the third installment of Will Smith’s Men in Black movie series in a facility on 15 Rewe St., in East Williamsburg, Brooklyn. The one-story building will also be used for special-effects development and office space. The film is scheduled to begin shooting in Manhattan in September. The 66,000-square-foot building has an additional 30,000 square feet of land, which producers need in order to facilitate alien vehicle construction, said Vincent Lopez of Kalmon Dolgin Affiliates, who represented both Columbia Pictures and landlord 15 Rewe St. LLC, along with his colleague Jacques Wadler. The nine-month lease, which has the option of a six-month extension, began July 1. The asking rent was $66,000 per month for the entire property. http://www.crainsnewyork.com/apps/pbcs.dll/dcce?Site=CN&Date=20100715&Module=12&Kategori=real_estate&Type=deals_active&ID=2453011&Class=122

Will Smith and James Lassiter developing project Overbrook Entertainment's Will Smith, James Lassiter and Ken Stovitz are moving ahead on developing a feature for Sony based on modern-day explorer and African-American neuroscience professor Dr. S. Allen Counter. Debbie Allen is also producing and Farhad Safinia ("Apocalypto") has been tapped to pen the script. Smith, who's worked with Counter in the past on such projects as Haiti relief, is only attached as a producer at this point. Counter began his research on indigenous peoples in the 1970s in Surinam on the rain forest descendants of 17th and 18th century African slaves. Along with David Evans, he produced a documentary on the culture and history of the rain forest peoples called "I Shall Moulder Before I Shall Be Taken." Counter traveled to northern Greenland in 1986 on a scientific mission and found the sons of the North Pole co-discoverers Robert E. Peary and African-American Matthew Henson, then raised funds to finance the journey of these sons and their families to the U.S. to meet their American relatives. Counter also sought recognition for Henson's contributions to Arctic exploration. Counter discovered a group of African-descended people in the Andes in 1993 and produced another documentary, "Lost Africans in the Andes." He has also written "North Pole Legacy: Black, White and Eskimo" and "I Sought My Brother: An Afro-American Reunion." Counter is currently the director of the Harvard Foundation of Harvard University and professor of neurology at Harvard Medical School. He was also appointed Consul General of Sweden in Boston and New England in 2004. Overbrook produced Sony's redo "The Karate Kid," starring Smith's son Jaden. Smith is returning this fall to topline Sony's "Men in Black III," due out in 2012. http://www.variety.com/article/VR1118021720.html?categoryid=13&cs=1

Tom Cruise and Will Smith 'power lunch' at cheesy LA bar
Ale replied to Ale's topic in Will Smith Movies
Seems Ty was right.. Tom Cruise, Will Smith & More Meet For ‘Paper Wings’ Table Read Tom Cruise, Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith, amongst other stars, were spotted together on Monday after gathering in West Hollywood at themed restaurant Saddle Ranch Chop House, which the celebrity trio closed down for what was reportedly a script meeting – leading many to believe a movie starring the Hollywood heavyweights was in the works. However, not so fast, a rep for Will’s production company told Access Hollywood. “They were there, along with other actors, for a table read for a film. The project is called ‘Paper Wings’ and is being developed by Will’s production company, Overbrook Entertainment, which he runs with producing partners James Lassiter and Ken Stovitz,” a rep for Overbrook told Access on Tuesday. Also spotted at the gathering were Eric Dane, Tom Arnold, Johnny Galecki and Jenna Elfman. Yet, the rep cautioned that people shouldn’t be jumping to conclusions just yet. “Please note that any actor’s presence at this table read does not mean that they have officially signed onto this project,” the rep added. Reese Witherspoon’s name was previously reported as Cruise’s possible co-star in the film, which follows a rodeo champ who falls for an aspiring country singer. News of the project first broke in March. “They chose the Saddle Ranch for the table read because the story of the film involves a bull rider and a country singer,” the rep noted to Access. Should a Tom & Will collaboration come to fruition, it’s something Cruise recently said he’d love to see happen. “We’ve always wanted to work together,” Tom told Access at the “Knight and Day” premiere on June 16. “We’ve been looking for something to do for quite awhile.” http://www.accesshollywood.com/tom-cruise-will-smith-and-more-meet-for-paper-wings-table-read_article_34526 -

'HawthoRNe's' Michael Vartan gets it on with Jada Pinkett Smith As fans of the sophomore TNT medical drama "HawthoRNe" know, the episode that aired on Tuesday (July 6) was a tumultuous one for Michael Vartan's character, surgeon Dr. Tom Wakefield. Spoiler Alert: If you haven't seen it yet, stop reading now. It began with an auto accident that injured Wakefield and killed his pal Paul (Kenneth Choi), and ended with Wakefield in a passionate clinch with head nurse Christina Hawthorne (Jada Pinkett Smith) that culminated in him proposing marriage. "The good doctor is having a hands-on relationship with the head of nursing," Vartan tells Zap2it. "It's television. I guess it was just a matter of time, and they decided to do it now rather than later. Tom and Christina are getting it on." Asked if this plot twist is going to cause any problems with Smith's husband, actor Will Smith, Vartan says, "I don't think so. Even last year, we liked to joke that Will is our ghost producer, because, although his name isn't on the actual project, he definitely lends his talent to it, which is great. "The more Will Smith you can get, the better off you are. He, from the get-go, realized you can go two ways on TV. You can either do the 'Moonlighting' thing and keep the characters apart forever and let the audience beg for them together -- 'Alias' kind of did that between my character and Jennifer Garner's -- or you can just do it. "I think the reason they chose to go for it, in our case, is the work environment is is so intense that a peaceful, sweet little love story is almost impossible. That's why they decided to do it, because it does bring so much conflict in between the two, with the power struggle in their positions, the hierarchy, all that stuff." As for not-so-sweet love story itself, Vartan says, "They have a full-on, very complicated, very passionate, very physical, very messy, very aggressive, full of fights and make-ups and break-ups, very fun, kind of nuts, relationship." Since Will Smith is fine with all this, that leaves the question of Vartan's fiancee, Lauren Skaar, whom he met in a Whole Foods parking lot when he "went up to her and begged her to take my email. She did, and the rest is history. She had no idea who I was, which made it even better." According to Vartan, the "HawthoRNe" love scenes won't be a problem for Skaar. "She's a mature, wonderful young lady," says Vartan, "who understands the sometimes not-so-fun part of my business." But the future might be another matter. "I'll tell you this," Vartan says, "now that I am getting married, I will definitely not be down for that anymore. Before, I didn't care; it was part of the job. If it's going to make the person I'm in love with feel really uncomfortable, I totally get it. I wouldn't want her to do it, so I have to honor that commitment." But Vartan is still a showbiz realist. "Look," he says, "if someone comes knocking on my door for 'Titanic 2,' and they're offering me $2 million to do it, and there's a love scene, I'll sit my fiancee down and say, 'Honey, this will pay for the kids' college tuition, so let's just do it.' "Love scenes, they're so completely unromantic. As you know, there's a crew of 30 around. There's a boom microphone up your rear end. It's more of a mechanical exercise than anything. But it's still not fun for the other person. "This is the first time I've ever been committed and having to do a love scene with anyone, and I can only imagine how it would make her feel. Can't be fun. I wouldn't like it, for sure." Vartan says that the women in question have a relationship of their own. "Lauren has met Jada several times," he says, "and they love each other. They're good friends. Lauren knows what a wonderful wife Jada is to Will and what an amazing relationship they have. This is so not dangerous, because these are two people who are madly in love with their spouses. "They're just going to have to do this for a couple of hours on set, and both parties understand that it's completely a professional situation." As for Vartan's real-life romance, he says he and Skaar are planning to wed next April in Newport, Beach, Calif.. It might be by the sea or in a hotel, but it won't be on a boat. "A boat could be a logistical nightmare," Vartan says. "Can you imagine, at the moment where the bride is supposed to say 'I do,' she vomits on me?"
