Will Smith to promote "Karate Kid" in China with family BEIJING, May 20 -- American box-office sensation Will Smith, who has produced a remake of the 1984 hit film "The Karate Kid", is likely to take his family to China to promote the new film's local release, the Oriental Morning Post reports. The highly anticipated remake is due out in Chinese cinemas on June 22, following its North American debut on June 11. Will Smith's 11-year-old son, Jaden, plays the protagonist who relocates with his mother from his American hometown to Beijing. While living in the city the boy stands up to bullies with the help of a kung fu master played by Jackie Chan. Shot on location in Beijing, the film showcases local architecture such as the Great Wall, traditional siheyuan houses, and the Bird's Nest to name a few. http://news.xinhuanet.com/english2010/entertainment/2010-05/20/c_13306216.htm

Rising Son: The New Karate Kid Jaden Smith soars in The Karate Kid. Only 11 years old, Jaden Smith possesses genes that have positioned him for stardom. He made his film debut in the Oscar-nominated The Pursuit of Happyness (2006) as the son of the character played by his real-life father, Will Smith. His mother is the actress and singer Jada Pinkett Smith, and his nine-year-old sister, Willow, has appeared in Kit Kittredge: An American Girl and I Am Legend. This month Jaden kick-starts another reboot of The Karate Kid, the 80s franchise that made Ralph Macchio a teen heartthrob and went on to spawn a girl’s version, The Next Karate Kid (1994), featuring a then unknown Hilary Swank. Jaden is the youngest actor to take on the strenuous title role. His character, Dre Parker, relocates with his mother, played by Taraji P. Henson, from Detroit to Beijing, where most of the Sony picture was filmed. His favorite sights? “I was working the whole time,” says Jaden. “I only got to see the Great Wall and the Forbidden City.” And how was the Chinese food? “I ate burgers.” Bullies at school and a forbidden crush drive Dre to learn how to defend himself, and under the guidance of Mr. Han, a martial-arts master played by Jackie Chan, he becomes a devoted student of kung fu and triumphantly surprises everybody, including himself. “Jackie Chan is amazing,” says Jaden. “On the set, he was teaching everybody. I have been doing karate since I was five, but kung fu is way different.” http://www.vanityfair.com/culture/fanfair/2010/06/jaden-smith-201006

EXCLUSIVE: Will Smith Has A 'Terrific' Idea For The 'Bad Boys 3' Story Interview with Jerry Bruckheimer: "We're talking about it," he said. "Will Smith came up with a terrific idea for a screenplay, and we've been working on a script, so we'll keep our fingers crossed." What this means of course is that Bruckheimer has also spoken with the duo about reprising their roles as Detectives Lowery and Burnett. "Of course. They're the guys. Will would love to do it, and I think Martin would too." Now the question is, what is Smith's idea? Bruckheimer's not saying. "I can't give that up yet. Maybe next time." As much as I hate to admit it, it's a very decent song. Probably his best since 'Lose Yourself'. I like it. Like Visqo says, I still can't say he's back. 'Relapse' was another disappointing album from Em for me, so we'll see.

Bruckheimer Confirms Development on Bad Boys 3 In the past few months, there's been quite a bit of chatter about Will Smith returning to some of his most famous franchises as they receive the threequel treatment. In fact, just this week it was confirmed that Smith would start shooting Men in Black III with Tommy Lee Jones this fall for a summer 2012 release date. There's also been talk in the past year about Sony reuniting Smith with Martin Lawrence and Michael Bay for Bad Boys 3 with a screenwriter having been hired last summer, though it seemed somewhat dubious even last month when Lawrence confirmed to MTV that the project was "real." At the UK junket for Prince of Persia: the Sands of Time, ComingSoon.net asked the Big Kahuna, producer Jerry Bruckheimer, if there was a possibility we'd see him, Michael Bay and Smith working together for the first time since Bad Boys 2 back in 2003, presumably once Bay and Smith finish their current threequels, Transformers 3 and Men in Black III, respectively. The producer was more prudent with his choice of words on the project than Lawrence, saying, "It's a wish and a hope and a dream. We've been working on a screenplay, which is excellent. It's an idea Will gave us, so hopefully, it will come to fruition, we would love it to." Being that the first Bad Boys was the big breakthrough movie for Bay, Smith and Lawrence 15 years ago--seems like longer, doesn't it?--it certainly would be interesting to see them do a third movie maybe with some of the modern edge they've seen since been exploring. http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=65833
