Rising Son: The New Karate Kid Jaden Smith soars in The Karate Kid. Only 11 years old, Jaden Smith possesses genes that have positioned him for stardom. He made his film debut in the Oscar-nominated The Pursuit of Happyness (2006) as the son of the character played by his real-life father, Will Smith. His mother is the actress and singer Jada Pinkett Smith, and his nine-year-old sister, Willow, has appeared in Kit Kittredge: An American Girl and I Am Legend. This month Jaden kick-starts another reboot of The Karate Kid, the 80s franchise that made Ralph Macchio a teen heartthrob and went on to spawn a girl’s version, The Next Karate Kid (1994), featuring a then unknown Hilary Swank. Jaden is the youngest actor to take on the strenuous title role. His character, Dre Parker, relocates with his mother, played by Taraji P. Henson, from Detroit to Beijing, where most of the Sony picture was filmed. His favorite sights? “I was working the whole time,” says Jaden. “I only got to see the Great Wall and the Forbidden City.” And how was the Chinese food? “I ate burgers.” Bullies at school and a forbidden crush drive Dre to learn how to defend himself, and under the guidance of Mr. Han, a martial-arts master played by Jackie Chan, he becomes a devoted student of kung fu and triumphantly surprises everybody, including himself. “Jackie Chan is amazing,” says Jaden. “On the set, he was teaching everybody. I have been doing karate since I was five, but kung fu is way different.” http://www.vanityfair.com/culture/fanfair/2010/06/jaden-smith-201006

EXCLUSIVE: Will Smith Has A 'Terrific' Idea For The 'Bad Boys 3' Story Interview with Jerry Bruckheimer: "We're talking about it," he said. "Will Smith came up with a terrific idea for a screenplay, and we've been working on a script, so we'll keep our fingers crossed." What this means of course is that Bruckheimer has also spoken with the duo about reprising their roles as Detectives Lowery and Burnett. "Of course. They're the guys. Will would love to do it, and I think Martin would too." Now the question is, what is Smith's idea? Bruckheimer's not saying. "I can't give that up yet. Maybe next time." As much as I hate to admit it, it's a very decent song. Probably his best since 'Lose Yourself'. I like it. Like Visqo says, I still can't say he's back. 'Relapse' was another disappointing album from Em for me, so we'll see.

Bruckheimer Confirms Development on Bad Boys 3 In the past few months, there's been quite a bit of chatter about Will Smith returning to some of his most famous franchises as they receive the threequel treatment. In fact, just this week it was confirmed that Smith would start shooting Men in Black III with Tommy Lee Jones this fall for a summer 2012 release date. There's also been talk in the past year about Sony reuniting Smith with Martin Lawrence and Michael Bay for Bad Boys 3 with a screenwriter having been hired last summer, though it seemed somewhat dubious even last month when Lawrence confirmed to MTV that the project was "real." At the UK junket for Prince of Persia: the Sands of Time, ComingSoon.net asked the Big Kahuna, producer Jerry Bruckheimer, if there was a possibility we'd see him, Michael Bay and Smith working together for the first time since Bad Boys 2 back in 2003, presumably once Bay and Smith finish their current threequels, Transformers 3 and Men in Black III, respectively. The producer was more prudent with his choice of words on the project than Lawrence, saying, "It's a wish and a hope and a dream. We've been working on a screenplay, which is excellent. It's an idea Will gave us, so hopefully, it will come to fruition, we would love it to." Being that the first Bad Boys was the big breakthrough movie for Bay, Smith and Lawrence 15 years ago--seems like longer, doesn't it?--it certainly would be interesting to see them do a third movie maybe with some of the modern edge they've seen since been exploring. http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=65833

'Men In Black III' Script 'Looks Really Good,' Josh Brolin Says 'I can do some actual acting work within this franchise that everybody knows,' he tells MTV News. Will Smith probably has to hook up a pair of 3-D-enhanced, Neuralyzer-blocking sunglasses, 'cause he's headed back to the big screen as Agent Jay for "Men in Black III" ... in 3-D. Shortly before Columbia Pictures' announcement about the film's May 2012 release on Friday (May 7), MTV News spoke with Smith's new co-star, Josh Brolin, about the upcoming flick. Though he hasn't yet inked a deal to play a younger version of Tommy Lee Jones' Agent Kay, Brolin spoke effusively about "MIBIII" and exactly how he decided the role was right for him "It looks really, really good," he told us. "I can't tell you the story, obviously, but they pitched me the general story, and I was like, 'Eh, I don't know if that's really my thing, man.' I was extremely grateful that they were even interested in me. But then they got more specific with the story, and I go, 'Yes, that's f---ing great!' This is a character where I feel like I can do some actual acting work within this franchise that everybody knows." Neither Brolin nor Jones have deals in place, but Smith has already signed on to reprise his role. Barry Sonnenfeld, who directed the first two installments of the franchise, will return to the director's chair for "MIBIII." The film is set to hit theaters May 25, 2012. We had lots of questions for Brolin earlier this month, but his lips were sealed on almost everything. "I can't confirm or deny anything," he laughed. "Nothing! Bummer for you!" He did say that he expects to begin shooting in New York City in the fall. But he hasn't yet seen Etan Cohen's ("Tropic Thunder") draft of the script. "I read something early, early, early, but it's very different than what is being written right now," Brolin said. What he did read was enough to get him excited. In fact, he recently found himself returning to the 1997 original. "I just watched the first one again a few nights ago and loved it," he said. "Loved it!" http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1638721/20100507/story.jhtml

Will Smith confirmed for 'Men in Black III' Sony to release 3D sequel on May 25, 2012 Will Smith looks to don a pair of black shades again, but this time of the 3D variety. Sony announced "Men in Black III" will get the 3D treatment set for release May 25, 2012. The "Black" installment will reteam Smith and director Barry Sonnenfeld. Smith has been rumored to topline one of two projects as his next vehicle: "Black" or 20th Century Fox's "The City that Sailed." Walter F. Parkes and Laurie MacDonald will produce the series' third offering, which is penned by Ethan Cohen, based on the comic book by Lowell Cunningham. Steven Spielberg will exec produce. "Sony's summer of 2012 will get off to a red-hot start with an incredible new 3D adventure for the Men in Black," said Jeff Blake, Sony's chairman of worldwide marketing and distribution. "We couldn't be more excited that the original filmmaking team responsible for the first two worldwide hits is reuniting for this third installment." The "Men in Black" franchise has grossed worldwide north of $1 billion collectively. Production for the third installment is set begin this fall, with Tommy Lee Jones in advanced negotiations to reprise his role as Agent Kay. Josh Brolin also is in talks to star as a young Agent Kay. http://www.variety.com/article/VR1118018932.html?categoryid=13&cs=1

LA Times caught up with "Iron Man 2" director Jon Favreau to talk about some cameos that fans can expect to see in the movie. He said that Stan Lee appears in a scene, and so does Bill O'Reilly. But the most important cameo for Favreau is one by the late Adam Goldstein, aka DJ AM, who died of an accidental drug overdose just weeks after shooting his part. "We tried to make it respectful, and for people who know him, they'll get a kick out of it and for people who don't, it will sort of slide by without much notice," said Favreau. Check out a shot of Goldstein from the movie. In the scene, a boozed-up Tony Stark is celebrating his birthday with a wild party at his Malibu oceanfront estate and there, behind the turntables, is Goldstein. Stark, in his superhero armor, is shown dancing to 2Pac's hip-hop classic "California Love" as Goldstein tends to the vinyl. Then, as the party tilts into a nasty direction, the hero makes a request: "Adam, I need a phat beat." The film is actually dedicated to Goldstein. His name and his trademark lightning-bolt symbol will appear in the end credits. http://www.worstpreviews.com/headline.php?id=17498&count=0
