  1. Nearly two years after would-be blockbuster “Earth vs. Moon” was snatched up following a bidding war between four studios, the writers of the red-hot script have become even hotter. But, now that they’re better known as the creators of “Zombieland” and have sequels in the works to that film, “G.I. Joe” and “X-Men” character Deadpool, where does that leave the sci-fi epic – and their hopes to someday film it with Will Smith? “’Earth vs. Moon’ is in the background,” explained writer Rhett Reese, when we interviewed him along with partner Paul Wernick and asked for an update on the long-simmering project. “We’ve written a first draft. We’ll be writing a second draft at some point.” So, if everyone loved the script in early 2008, what’s the hold-up? “It’s really big; bigger than you might imagine, it’s even bigger than that - it’s a big, monster of a movie,” explained Reese, whose “Zombieland” is now flying off DVD and Blu-Ray shelves. “And yet, at its core it has some real heart.” The film is based on a concept by Stephen Hawking of all people – who has spoken about the human need to colonize other worlds and set up back-up societies that could correct the mistakes of our experiences on this planet. From that unlikely source, Wernick and Reese have conceived a film that would pit Earth’s residents against a colony of moon settlers, in what would basically be a civil war. “It’s set in the future,” Reese explained. “It’s about a war between Earth and a colony on the moon that was established as a means of first colonization by Earth.” “It’s about a fractured family - some of the family members are on the moon, some are on earth - so it has a real personal feel to it,” he continued. “It’s also grand in scope, it’s got a lot of cool weapons, a lot of cool action, and we’re happy [with its development]. We’re going to keep on improving it, and get it into theaters.” How big will the movie be? Well, Reese and Wernick say that there will be a need for some impressive special effects – and in their mind, there’s one international superstar who could topline the project and get it to the right tentpole-level. In fact, they’re so eager to land the actor that they even named their main character Will. “It’s something we’ve always wanted Will Smith to do - we really wrote the character for him, so we hope [his participation] happens at some point,” Reese said. “[We would be] the star; he’s on earth…an earthling.” “[With modern CG], we can write anything and they can make it happen - but for a reasonable budget, that may not be the case,” he added, admitting that although the movie is high-concept, a good director could make it work. “You don’t want to write a small movie with a big action scene sitting in the middle of it…when you approach your movie, you have to have budget in mind…so that you don’t get completely nuts, and between that you can be completely free with your imagination and do crazy stuff. Because the visual effects people - ‘Avatar’ has proven - can literally do anything. Anything you can imagine, they can do - which [for writers] is very freeing.” What do you think of the “Earth vs. Moon” concept? Would you like to see it become a Will Smith vehicle? 7. The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air - Warner Tells the 5th Season DVDs to Chill for One More Week They said, 'You're Movin', With Your Auntie and Your Uncle, to May 11th!' Posted by David Lambert 2/23/2010 At the end of January we reported that the long-awaited DVD release of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air - The Complete 5th Season was finally on the way, and would arrive on May 4th. A short time ago today Warner Home Video issued a notice that the street date has changed for this title, pushing it back 1 week to May 11th. Online retailers (such as Amazon's pre-order listing, at the button link below) should reflect the updated information before too long. No reason was given for the change. But, after waiting for a few years to get this new 3-disc set, I'm sure we're all happy to wait just an extra seven days, right? http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/news/Fresh-Prince-Bel-Air-Season-5/13379
  8. In honor of Black History month, Karyn Parsons, aka Hilary Banks, shares what it's like working with Will on the set of Fresh Prince of Bel Air: "...big personality. love of life...he was the team leader...kept it positive." Karyn is now a mother and founder of Sweet Blackberry, which educates children and brings attention to African-American unsung heroes.
  9. Will Smith's "Uptown Saturday Night" Remake Status Back in January we reported that Warner Bros hired Mark and Robb Cullen to re-write the most recent draft of the remake for Sidney Poitier's 1974 comedy "Uptown Saturday Night," which Will Smith now owns the rights to and Denzel Washington has been circling. During the "Cop Out" press junket, we had the chance to catch up with the Cullen brothers to get an update on the project. "We're waiting on Will, he's got 'Men in Black 3,' he's got four [projects]," they said. "He's the biggest movie star in the world, it comes down to what Will wants to do." They continued: "We wrote it obviously for Will and Denzel to [play Sidney Poitier's and Bill Cosby's roles]. Hopefully it will be that with David Dobkin (Wedding Crashers) directing. It's a very funny script." Regarding story: "Will bought the properties for all three, he owns 'Uptown Saturday Night,' he owns 'Let's Do it Again' and 'A Piece of the Action.' So we married the elements of all of them. It's a big movie. A big, fun movie." The original film followed the misadventures of two friends who sneak out of their homes to visit a legendary - yet illegal - nightclub. But when the place is held up, and their wallets are taken, the pair must recover a winning lottery ticket that was lurking within Cosby's wallet. http://www.worstpreviews.com/headline.php?id=16828&count=0
  10. Don't know if these pics are old or not, but anyways I'll post them: Will Smith going to a business meeting in Beverly Hills Los Angeles, California. http://imagegallery.taragana.com/2010/02/18/g/105384/
  11. Did he have to participate in this song to prove he cares about music? I don't think so. Plus, we don't know the reasons why he isn't on it.. Just don't defend him, he doesn't have to justify anything. He's just spending time with his family, which is great. He doesn't owe us anything. He doesn't owe your friends anything.
  12. Yes, but, on the other hand, it wouldn't be a bad thing either if more people bought the song because Michael is on it. The more money they get, the better. That's the most important, and that's why they've decided to keep Michael.
  13. That's not only people's fault. From my point of view we're not doing as much as we can.
  14. Isnt this song supposed to be about people in need and not about Michael being on it..? For me, it's not just Michael being on it. He's the one who made the original. It's practically impossible to not associate this with him.
  15. Wow. Just, wow. This song would mean nothing to me without Michael. It's great they kept him.
  16. Gilles Marini Owes Acting Career to Will Smith (VIDEO) Actor and 'Dancing With the Stars' contestant Gilles Marini told Bonnie Hunt that he owes his career to none other than Will Smith, who he encountered in a hotel restaurant while working as a waiter. Smith, who was in town at the time training for 'Ail,' encouraged Marini to pursue his dream of acting, he said on 'The Bonnie Hunt Show' (weekdays, syndicated). "He gave me a boost. [He said], 'If you dream of something ... Los Angeles is the right place to go.' And, I thought, 'Hey, why not?' I just moved out and now it's history. I guess it worked out," Marini said. http://insidetv.aol.com/2010/02/12/gilles-marini-owes-acting-career-to-will-smith-video/
  17. Sunday's showing of "Super Bowl XLIV" became the most-watched TV program in US history. The game drew 106.5 million viewers, destroying all previous Super Bowl records and overthrowing the 27-year-old record held by the final episode of "M*A*S*H," which garnered 105.97 million viewers. "Super Bowl XLIV" is the first sports program to ever domestically crack 100 million viewers. Granted, the population has grown from when the "M*A*S*H" finale aired, with the TV audience having climbed from 218 million viewers to 292 million. Yet that audience is also much more specialized and segmented in terms of viewing habits. Most broadcast shows struggle to pull ratings that were commonplace just a few years ago. "It is not surprising that the Super Bowl broke viewing records," said Bill Carroll, vp director of programming at Katz TV Group. "When you have a once-a-year event, particularly suited to HD, with little to no competition on broadcast or cable, while in this economy it's mostly watched from home, with a blizzard on the East Coast, it would be more surprising if the game did not set a record." The big game was followed by CBS' latest reality show "Undercover Boss," which also scored for the network. "Boss" drew 38.6 million viewers, the biggest post-Bowl numbers since CBS aired the second-season premiere of "Survivor" after the Super Bowl in 2001. http://www.worstpreviews.com/headline.php?id=16705&count=0
