  1. Exclusive: Will Smith & Steven Spielberg’s Old Boy DEAD! Late Breaking News… This just in… You know that OLDBOY remake…well it wasn’t really a remake, anyway (which is a terrible idea by the way) Steven Spielberg and Will Smith were suppose to do a film that was based on the Japanese manga by Nobuaki Minegishi and Garon Tsuchiya and NOT FROM THE ORIGINAL FILM. At the time DreamWorks was in the process of securing the rights along with MANDATE, until NOW. According to a trusted source… …It’s DEAD! Mandate and DreamWorks didn’t see eye to eye therefore DreamWorks has apparently walked away. No Spielberg. No Will Smith. THEY’RE OUT! Hence no stateside Oldboy remake…or whatever you want to call it. Stay tuned as more develops. You guys should be hearing something in the trades soon. http://www.latinoreview.com/news/exclusive-will-smith-steven-spielberg-s-old-boy-dead-8502 ----- Aww hell naww! :boxedin:
  2. Thanks Jim. I'm glad you got to see Jeff the other day. Seems you had so much fun!
  3. Two-time Academy Award nominee, Will Smith, may have found the project that will finally win him that elusive Oscar. According to our inside source, The Hollywood Cog, Smith is set to produce and star in Flowers for Algernon, a modern-day adaptation of the Daniel Keyes’ novel. The movie is being set up at Sony Pictures and Smith’s production company, Overbrook Entertainment, along with Polksy Films. Tracy Nyberg, an associate producer on Hancock and an assistant to Will Smith on I Am Legend, is also set to produce. Flowers for Algernon has been adapted several times since it was originally published in 1959, most famously Ralph Nelson’s Charly, which won Cliff Robertson an Academy Award in 1969. The short story (and the subsequent novel) is about Charlie, a mentally retarded man who is the first human test subject for an experimental surgery that artificially increases intelligence. The experiment had already been performed successfully on Algernon, a lab mouse. Charlie’s newfound intelligence (his IQ skyrockets from 68 to 185), however, comes at the cost of his ability to socialize normally, as he becomes increasingly alienated from those around him. Emotional consequences are involved when Charlie learns the truth of the experiment. The project seems ideal for Smith, who was nominated for an Oscar for his performances in Ali and Pursuit of Happyness. Smith will bring his populist appeal to yet another Oscar contender. Smith has several other projects currently in development, including an American remake of Oldboy, potential sequels to Hancock and I, Robot, in addition to a prequel to I Am Legend. No word on where Flowers for Algernon will fall into Smith’s filming schedule, but I’d expect the project to be fast-tracked, once a director comes aboard. And though no director has been announced, Smith’s Happyness and Seven Pounds collaborator, Gabriele Muccino, seems a likely candidate. http://www.pajiba.com/trade_news/will-smith-signs-onto-flowers-for-algernon.php
  4. “The problem is he's probably the biggest movie star on the planet. Being in that position, it doesn't make for a lot of time for music.” Before Will Smith was regarded as being a hit-maker for the box office, the actor was known as the Fresh Prince and made noise, alongside DJ Jazzy Jeff, on the music side. Together, the duo were able to heat up music and put Philadelphia on the map. The Philly scene now includes the likes of Beanie Sigel, Gillie the Kid, Cassidy and others that are complete opposites of the Fresh Prince, but they will always be recognized as the first to do it and watch it blow up in the mainstream. Although their career choices have gone in two different directions, Jeff maintains that the relationship between the two hasn't been shaken in all of these years. During promotion for the recently released video game, DJ Hero, Jeff speaks on how everything has essentially fallen in place for the two. “People don't realize about my relationship with Will is [that] this is exactly what we planned on doing. That's one of the things that we talk about more than anything. I remember when Will and I first got together, we kinda had a dream session and he was like, ‘You know what, I wanna do movies' and I was like, ‘Wow, I wanna do music' and I was like maybe I can do music for your movies.” He added how the movie industry has been a factor as to why the two haven't been able to link up again musically, although they have made constant attempts. “I think that a lot of the movie people hate when I come around because they know that I'm going to try to twist his arm to do some music. It's hard. He really wants to do it, but being one of the biggest movie stars on the planet, we'll talk about ‘Oh man, we wanna do this tour and go here' and then he'll call me and say ‘Hey, guess what? I was nominated for an Oscar. It's kinda like, ehh so much for the tour.” Whatever the case may be, the DJ states that the two still have moments where they are in awe of where their careers have gone since the days of “Summertime”, but through it all, they have continued to remain level-headed to one another as friends and have sat in anticipation for the day where they can finally make their return. http://hiphopwired.com/14827/jazzy-jeff-speaks-on-reunion-with-fresh-prince/
  5. Thanks Ant! Thanks Tim! ;)
  6. By the way, Happy Birthday to Kel Spencer!
  7. Yeah, I've seen 'JCVD'. I gotta agree, his performance was quite good, and the movie was probably the best movie he's ever done. I liked it. But all that "I want to be a serious actor now" is just BS for me. He's made some decent action movies but that's it. He can't be considered a good actor just because of 'JCVD' in my opinion. In fact, none of the actors from 'The Expendables' can't be considered great actors. That's why Jean-Claude was perfect for the role. Shame he rejected it.
  8. You are right, Chris. But how could we stop this, man? TELL ME! I guess it's the law of life Thanks everyone. I had a great day. It's true, now I can drink in America. But first I have to go to America.
  9. Although the full interview won't air until tomorrow night, GMA gave us another look at Rihanna's emotional sit-down with Diane Sawyer. "That's embarrassing that that's the type of person that I fell in love with," she tells Diane in the new clip. "I stayed. I even went back after he beat me, which was wrong," Rihanna said. "But again ... I'm a human being and people put me on a very unrealistic pedestal. And all these expectations, I'm not perfect." Rihanna said her decision to finally get out was motivated by the idea that she was a negative role model for other young women who may have been in her same situation. "Even if Chris never hit me again, who is to say that their boyfriend won't? Who's to say that they won't kill these girls?" Rihanna continued, "These are young girls and I just didn't realize how much of an impact I had on these girls' lives until that happened." You can watch the entire interview tomorrow night on 20/20 at 10pm EST. Watch Video here: http://x17online.com/celebrities/rihanna/rihanna_being_in_love_with_chris_brown_was_embarrassing-11052009.php ----- Wow. A really touching interview. I'm glad Rihanna is saying this now. Better late than never.
  10. Exclusive: Roland Emmerich Wants To Make Independence Day 2 Because Of Obama Last time we heard from Roland Emmerich about plans for a second Independence Day movie, he said that Fox was balking at putting up the money for Will Smith to be part of the film. At today's press day for 2012, I asked Emmerich both about the status of the funding and his reason for wanting to make the movie to begin with. Emmerich had said not 10 minutes earlier, in a roundtable interview, that sequels were silly, but he says that Independence Day is different: "I think everybody has a defining moment or a defining film who works in this business. It's the one I think I will be remembered for. I kind of think it would be great to do." As for why it's taken so long to get the sequel started, you can blame George W. Bush. "In Independence Day, it was about a king who leads his country into a fight against an outside invader. I didn't want to make that movie during the Bush years. It was not thought that George W. Bush would have made a great king. Now with Obama, it's another story." He also confirmed that, as in the first film, the plot of Independence Day 2 would focus on the President and his efforts to lead the country. We know that Emmerich cast Danny Glover as the President in 2012 as a nod to Obama, but who knew the real President was the inspiration to bring Bill Pullman back as well? In video to come, Emmerich talks more about the funding troubles for the film and why Fox would hesitate to bring back Will Smith, even though Emmerich says plainly "I will not make the movie with Will Smith." He also talks about his plans to use new technology on the second film. Sounds like things are still at loggerheads in actually getting the movie going, but despite Emmerich's promise that 2012 will be his last disaster movie, we can probably count on Independence Day 2 coming along at some point. http://www.cinemablend.com/new/Exclusive-Roland-Emmerich-Wants-To-Make-Independence-Day-2-Because-Of-Obama-15563.html
  11. Article from PRIDE Magazine: Will Smith: The Last Movie Star Recently, the Los Angeles Times and a number of movie experts agreed that we had seen the death of the movie star. With all the top stars having major flops, they came to the conclusion that only one star could ensure a movie’s success by their name alone: Will Smith. Will took time out to explain how he went from being a guy with “average talent” to an enduring superstar at work and at home. You always seem to come across as a loyal, loving husband. Were you ever a playa in your earlier days? I have had only five girlfriends in my entire life. I needed to know the chick for a long time before I even said anything. But you seem so super-confident… The problem was, I could never put myself out there. At school I was madly in love with this girl. Her name was Charlene Brown. During a school assembly I caught her eye, and to this day I do not know why, but I screamed out, “Hey, Charlene, how are you feeling?” And over 1,000 students’ heads I heard her shout back, “Too good for you.” That must have hurt! From that moment, I never approached or said a word to a girl unless I was absolutely certain that she liked me. And now? You never forget. Even with the wife, I make sure she is in the mood before I approach. Charlene never leaves your head. Every guy has that girl that wrecked them! You and Jada have been married ten years and, by all accounts, are very happy. What’s the key? Communication. And divorce cannot be an option. Your first marriage ended in divorce. That is probably the most painful loss of my life. I quit. I could have fixed it. It really was not that bad. Some would say there’s no reason to stay if a marriage isn’t good. Once you say that, you’ve lost. With Jada, I stood up in front of God and my family and friends and said, “Till death do us part.” So there are two possible outcomes: we are going to be together till death, or I am dead. But people do have problems in marriage. Jada and I have problems; everybody has problems. People ask, “What happens if you made a mistake?” Well, you should be a little more careful before you stand up in front of God and your family and friends and say, “Till death do us part.” Read the full article in Pride November issue, out now http://www.pridemagazine.com/25.html
  12. Studio acquires bigscreen rights to Hasbro franchise Sony Pictures Entertainment has its sights set on world domination, acquiring bigscreen rights to the board game Risk from Hasbro. SPE will produce the adaptation with Will Smith and James Lassiter's Overbrook shingle. Property, which pits players against one another in a quest to annex all of the world's territories, has become desirable thanks to the box office success of the Paramount adaptations of Hasbro's Transformers and G.I. Joe. "The strategic thinking and the tactical gambles that players must take in the game are what make Risk a classic, thoroughly engaging game," said Columbia prexy Doug Belgrad. Those elements translated into an action-packed, thrilling story are what will make this a uniquely exciting movie." The toymaker's topper, Brian Goldner, and inhouse film exec Bennett Schneir will produce the actioner with Lassiter. As Hollywood studios have become more risk-averse in recent years, toys with name recognition and limitless branding opportunities are being sought and developed as adaptations with A-list producers attached. In recent years, William Morris and now WME -- which reps Hasbro -- has set up a number of properties on behalf of the company, including Monopoly, Ouija, Stretch Armstrong and Candyland. Early last year, Hasbro inked a six-year pact with Universal to produce at least four movies. The studio recently tapped Peter Berg to helm "Battleship" and has already set its sights on July 1, 2011, to release the actioner. The deal with Sony now enables Hasbro to get two large-scale military movies off the ground as high-profile tentpoles, with the resulting exposure at the megaplex hopefully upping interest in the toys the way "Transformers" and "G.I. Joe" helped boost sales for those brands this summer. Hasbro already has a relationship with Overbrook, with the shingle developing two TV projects with the toymaker. Risk was created in 1957 by French filmmaker Albert Lamorisse as La Conquete du Monde (The Conquest of the World). Two years later, Parker Brothers published the game in the U.S. as Risk. http://www.variety.com/article/VR1118010867.html?categoryId=13&cs=1&cache=false
  13. Michael Jackson's This Is It Won't Hit DVD Until Next Year The "window wars" continue to heat up between the studios and theater owners. The Los Angeles Times is reporting that Sony's attempt to release Michael Jackson's This Is It for a holiday DVD release was thwarted by the National Association of Theater Owners (NATO). NATO argued that the DVD/BD release would be too close to the film's premiere, despite the fact that the film was only being released in theaters for a two-week limited engagement, although it has been rumored that the run might be lengthened or that the film will be re-released in theaters at a later date. It was said that Sony "desperately wanted" to release Michael Jackson's This Is It, but backed off once NATO took issue with the move. This isn't the first time that NATO and the studios have been at odds over a DVD release window strategy. We reported a few weeks ago that NATO was angered by Paramount's decision to release G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra on DVD on November 3, only 88 days after its theatrical premiere. The average window between a film's theatrical debut and DVD release is 129 days. While a specific release date wasn't announced, it was believed that Michael Jackson's This Is It would hit DVD and BD shelves sometime next year. http://www.movieweb.com/news/NEkGPlktyCGIon ----- Shame! :hissyfit:

  17. 'Michael Jackson's This Is It' Banks $100 Million Around The Globe Documentary has impressive debut in Europe, Japan, China. As expected, "Michael Jackson's This Is It" was the box-office champion over the Halloween weekend, taking in an estimated $21.3 million in the United States. The bigger news was that the documentary chronicling the King of Pop's final rehearsals for his planned 50-show comeback residency in London banked more than $101 million worldwide. he totals easily made "This Is It" the #1 movie in America, beating out the still-strong thriller "Paranormal Activity," which was second with $16.5 million. Fans who didn't wait in line or rush out to see "This Is It" during its first few days in theaters also got a reprieve, as Sony Pictures — the studio that paid $60 million for the rights to release the film — announced that the planned two-week-only engagement will now be extended through Thanksgiving. According to The Associated Press, "This Is It" had a strong debut all across the globe, taking in $10.4 million in Japan, $6.3 million in Germany, $7.6 million in Great Britain, $5.8 million in France and $3.2 million in China. But despite the impressive open, "This Is It" still fell short of the $31.1 million domestic opening weekend of last year's "Hannah Montana & Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert"; the film's total since its open on Tuesday was $32.5 million. Even with a slower opening weekend than the Cyrus movie — likely due to the plethora of other activities available on Halloween weekend — experts still predicted that "This Is It" has a very good shot at surpassing the $65.3 million take of the Cyrus movie, which currently holds the all-time record for music documentaries. http://www.mtv.com/movies/news/articles/1625274/story.jhtml

  22. "Men in Black 3" Could Begin Filming in the Spring Last September, producer Walter Parkes mentioned to Parade magazine that a third "Men in Black" film could potentially be on its way if pieces started falling into place. "The challenge is getting the script right and finding a time when our busy stars are available," he said. "But everyone, including Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones, wants to do another." Then, during ShoWest, Sony Pictures Entertainment president Rory Bruer revealed that in addition to "Spider-Man 4" and "Ghostbusters 3," the studio is working on a new "Men in Black" film, which is in active development. No other information on the topic was unveiled. Now comes news that Sony has hired Etan Cohen (Tropic Thunder) to write the script and has attached director Barry Sonnenfeld to "MIB 3." The goal is to get the cameras rolling as early as next Spring. There is currently no deal with Sonnenfeld, who directed the first two films, or Will Smith. There is a good chance that the studio will bail on the film if Smith refuses to return, but word around town is that the actor is very interested in returning. Tommy Lee Jones' involvement is uncertain. The first "Men in Black" was made for $90 million and went on to earn around $590 million in worldwide ticket sales. The sequel, which was released five years later, was made for $140 million and earned $442 million. Source: THR http://www.worstpreviews.com/headline.php?id=15616&count=0
