"Will Promotes '7 Pounds' In Cold Cleveland" Will Smith is currently on a bus tour around the United States to promote his new movie, 7 lbs. The movie is not being released to the theaters until December 19 but Will is doing his part to visit as many cities as he can before then. I was able to see Will at a local radio station this morning where he was discussing the film and promoting the big movie premiere tonight. It is not often that we get movie premieres here in Cleveland but Will Smith will be walking the red carpet tonight at 6:00pm at the Cinemark Valley View Theater. Will is also doing his part to help the community as tickets for the event will be distributed to those people that donate a non-perishable food item. Will arrived in a tour bus covered in advertisement for the 7 lbs movie. He stated on the radio that he was touring various citites because "The United States is more than just New York and L.A." Keep an eye out as he should be making many more stops for this tour. He has already visited Dallas, Miami, Denver, St. Louis and Cleveland. Article: http://www.forbes.com/2008/11/19/hollywood...119couples.html ________________________________ No. 2: Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith Total: $85 million Though Jada Pinkett Smith's résumé continues to grow, husband Will Smith maintains his role as the family breadwinner. He pulled down $80 million in the year ending June 2008, thanks to another set of top-performing blockbusters: I Am Legend, The Pursuit of Happyness and this past summer's Hancock. She managed to generate a still impressive $5 million during the same period, thanks to roles as an actress (The Women), producer (The Human Contract) and entrepreneur (she has a stake in beauty line Carol's Daughter).

Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith: Talking About Love You can always count on Will Smith to get great media coverage on the heels of one of his new movies opening. Next month, the box-office kingpin, will offer audiences the drama 'Seven Pounds.' To wrap around all the marketing blitz that surely will come with a surefire box-office tally, the former 'Fresh Prince of Bel Air' is making the rounds. The usual requisites are a seat on Oprah Winfrey's couch, a laughter-filled romp on late night television and him gracing the covers of glossy black lifestyle and male oriented periodicals. But for the December edition of 'Essence' magazine it's double the pleasure when Hollywood's number one star and his beloved wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, grace the cover and interview each other and tell the world how they make it all work. Just today, the couple landed at #2 on 'Forbes' magazine's richest couples list -- grossing $85 million last year. (Jay-Z and Beyonce Knowles were #1.) Below are some highlights of the chat, which was conducted by the magazine's West Cost editor Regina R. Robertson: "Well, the truth about life is that we're all alone," Smith replied when his wife of nearly eleven years asked him what he loves about being married. "But when somebody loves you, right, that experience is shared. Love is the only real connective tissue that allows you to not live and die by yourself. It gives you purpose beyond you. You don't necessarily have to get married to have that, but I've always wanted to be married. I knew you were that person for me because you're loyal, to a fault. You'll destroy yourself to be loyal to somebody else." "Trying to be with somebody who you know doesn't deserve it is too hard," Pinkett Smith said when recollecting about the early stages of their relationship. "I knew you deserved it, but it had more to do with your relationship with your God and yourself than with me. I thought, Okay, this dude just wants to be a good dude. When we got together, both of us were going through rough times. I loved the relationship you had with your grandmother GiGi and the commitment you had to Trey. I remember watching how you dealt with Sheree [Will's ex], which was admirable, and I thought, If this is how he treats somebody who he ain't really feeling, imagine how he'll treat somebody he loves. I know that was hard for you. I could see that you were struggling. Most people would have been trying to figure out, How can I pay this person back? But you were always thinking, What is the right thing to do? It took me a long time to get on that page. I felt like you were strong where I was weak, and then in some instances, I could offer you strength. We were like puzzle pieces." "Sex is a very, very important factor for me, especially when you're talking about being with somebody for the rest of your life," she added. "It worked out nicely." Ever the outspoken one, she furthered the conversation with her thoughts on how relationships falter: "I think people get into the concept of being constant in their relationships. That's a huge mistake because things are going to change. It doesn't matter if you're going forward or backward, you're going to be moving." "I wish there was a formula that said, 'If you follow this right here, you will have a successful marriage,' but it's so different for everybody," she also said. "In order to have a good relationship, I think you've got to give yourself. There's so much beauty in having that vulnerability and openness, but it's also a double-edged sword because nobody can hurt you more than the person who's closest to you. Your partner knows all your buttons, and there are times when it feels like things are unforgivable." "When you're married, you can no longer hide from yourself, which can be excruciatingly painful,' Mr. Smith chimed in. "The secret is removing divorce as an option. Anybody who gives themselves that option will get a divorce." The lengthy marriage has had a profound effect on how he views his career choices too. "I've lived a totally unbalanced life, and this has been the first time that I'm actually shutting movies out for five or six months so I can really focus and spend some extended time with family and friends," he revealed. "I'm just starting to believe in the idea of balance, but you've always been the one to keep the ship from falling over. I found balance when I met you." The December issue of 'Essence' is on stands now. Pictures! http://www.blackvoices.com/blogs/2008/11/2...ing-about-love/

Will Smith: "I Could Absolutely be the President of the U.S."
Ale replied to MissAshley's topic in Will Smith Movies
Will Smith a bad actor? Funniest thing I've ever heard. Was his performance in 'I am Legend' bad? Was his performance in 'Pursuit of Happyness' bad? Was his performance in 'Ali' bad? Was his performance in 'Six Degrees of Separation' bad? I can understand that you don't like his serious roles, or that you're angry because he doesn't want to get back into music, but like it or not he's one of the most versatile and talented actors out there right now. -
Will Smith's whirlwind day in Cleveland culminates with movie premiere by Clint O'Connor/Plain Dealer Film Critic Gallery: Gallery: Will Smith visits Northeast Ohio Actor Will Smith surprised 150 students at Open Doors Academy before he walked the red carpet with LeBron James. http://photos.cleveland.com/gallery/4501/W...ortheast%20Ohio Will Smith and LeBron James Will Smith stretches on his tip toes but still falls short of LeBron James' height as he entertains the crowd during a red carpet event in front of the Cinemark Valley View 24 Thursday, November 20, 2008. Will Smith's surprise visit Actor Will Smith hugs a young girl who is in tears after seeing him Thursday, November 20, 2008 in Cleveland Heights. He met with about 150 10-13 year olds in this after school enrichment program called Open Doors Academy inside St. Paul's Episcopal Church. Will Smith put in a good 12-hour day in Greater Cleveland Thursday. In the midst of a five-city tour promoting his new film, "Seven Pounds," Smith was greeted by an array of hugs, handshakes, cell-phone snappers, and "you're-really-an-inspiration" moments from starstruck fans. "We've never done it this way before, we usually only do New York and L.A.," said Smith. "This is more like the old school music tours. Different clubs, different cities, meeting people. You get in touch with what people are feeling and thinking and it's much more personal when you're actually out shaking hands." The actor-rapper-humanitarian carried his considerable charisma around town in a huge bus emblazoned with his face and the film's title. "Seven Pounds," a drama about a man who suffers a tragedy then helps seven strangers, opens nationwide Dec. 19th. His whirlwind day included making the radio rounds, visiting the Cleveland Clinic Children's Hospital, meeting with students at Ginn Academy, Case Elementary School, and Open Doors Academy in Cleveland Heights, and sitting down for an interview. On the election of Barack Obama: "It's the completion of the cycle of Africa-American citizenship in America. There's always been a sort of quiet, mostly unspoken debate in the African-American community of our citizenship. On November 4th, 2008, the question was gone. We are no longer African-Americans. We are Americans of African descent." On what it means for black folks: "I've met with black leaders throughout the country, spiritual leaders, political leaders, teachers and scholars, and there really is a huge collective pause. The consensus is: 'OK, everybody be quiet. Nobody say nothin'!' It's a different world and everybody is speaking from a different perspective now." On what gives him the bigger thrill, movies or rapping: "Nothing's more fun than being on stage with music. That is the biggest emotional narcotic. When you get in sync with a crowd, everybody doing things on beat and in unison, there's no experience like that." His hectic visit culminated Thursday night with a red carpet premiere at Cinemark 24 in Valley View, where Smith donated 200 turkeys to the Cleveland Food Bank and mugged for the cameras with local celebrities such as LeBron James. Cleveland was his fourth stop, following Miami, St. Louis, and Dallas. After introducing "Seven Pounds" at Valley View, he headed to the airport to fly to Denver. Smith, who recently turned 40, said he's at a point in his life where he doesn't want to do anything without a purpose. His recent films reflect that. "I was onto it in 'Pursuit of Happyness,' 'I am Legend,' and even 'Hancock,' " he said. All those characters emerged from a trauma to help others. It points to his strong belief in the cycle of birth-life-death-rebirth. "We're all going to face that literal or figurative death some time," said Smith. "You're going to lose your job, you're going to lose your house, or get divorced. And you're going to have to prepare yourself for the rebirth. How did Nelson Mandela smile after 27 years of being falsely imprisoned? It's purpose. Purpose is the place to go to make life bearable. It's where to live." Heavy stuff. "I'll do a comedy next, man. I promise." Video http://www.cleveland.com/entertainment/ind...d_day_in_c.html Smith is smart and thoughtful, often veering into the philosophical. He discussed a wide range of topics, sometimes completely sure of himself and his ideas, other times still working through the theories, as if testing the notes of a new song by sounding them out loud.

Fans brave cold for Smith Cleveland is stop on 5-city movie tour By Rich Heldenfels Beacon Journal popular culture writer Hundreds of people braved snow, cold and slick roads Thursday afternoon and evening for a close-up look at movie star Will Smith. Smith came to Northeast Ohio to promote his new movie, Seven Pounds. Opening Dec. 19, the movie stars Smith as a man who decides to help seven strangers after tragedy strikes his own life. In keeping with that theme, Smith talked about helping others. And he used a red-carpet event and screening at Cinemark Valley View as a fundraiser for the Cleveland Food Bank. People were asked to bring nonperishable food items to the theater, and Smith himself donated 200 turkeys to the food bank. The event included sundry proclamations, among them one making it Will Smith Day in Cleveland on Thursday. WKYC (Channel 3) anchor Romona Robinson took time off from the station's early-evening newscast to introduce Smith to the crowd. LeBron James was one of the local celebrities attending the screening, moving relatively quietly in Smith's wake — until Smith saw James and greeted him with a big smile and a hug. Then there were the fans like Muriel Tillman of Akron, who came to the event with her daughter, Adana. Muriel hoped Smith would autograph a sock doll whose protruding ears reminded her of Smith's. She did not get an autograph, but she and Adana did get a picture with Smith. As he walked the red carpet, talking to local media representatives on one side and fans on the other, Smith often took fans' cameras, held them at arm's length and posed with them for the shot he snapped. Some of the fans waited long hours for a chance to see him. Gabby Taylor of Cleveland had arrived at 11:15 a.m. Thursday, though the event was not scheduled to begin until 4 p.m. and Smith was not expected until after 6. Asked why, she said, ''It's Will Smith. He's beautiful.'' Pointing to a Seven Pounds poster with Smith's image in the middle, she added, ''Do I have to unroll that poster for you?'' But she and others also praised his intelligence, his movies and his good works. All that made the trip through the snow bearable. Still, Smith himself was a bit surprised by the weather. While he grew up in sometimes-snowy Philadelphia, he has been softened somewhat by life in Hollywood. ''I've definitely been re-sensitized to cold,'' he said with a chuckle Thursday morning during a chat with reporters in the InterContinental Hotel in Cleveland. He chose Cleveland as one of the stops on a five-city promotional tour in part because Smith has fond memories of playing there with DJ Jazzy Jeff when Smith was better known as the Fresh Prince. But when he was looking at possible cities, Smith said, ''I didn't notice the 25 degrees.'' His voice was a bit raspy from visits to schools: ''We've been screaming with and over the kids.'' Another factor was the success his movies have had in Northeast Ohio, he said, and he wanted at least one location that was somewhat northeast, because of his Philly roots. Other cities on the tour were Miami, Dallas, St. Louis and Denver. He also wanted to get back in touch with people. On the day before the election of Barack Obama, he said, ''I was nervous. Wasn't certain at all that Barack could win. Then, when it was a landslide, I realized that I was out of touch. Like, I really didn't know what people were thinking and really didn't know what people were feeling.'' Smith said his three children were much more in tune with the mood of the people. ''I was crying,'' he said. ''They had no idea why it was such a big deal for me. Because it was a possibility for them. . . . I remember my 15-year-old [Trey, now 16] . . . was, like, 'Dude, relax.' '' Smith's children are also as keen as Smith is about helping others. For his 16th birthday, Trey's friends brought gifts to take to children's hospitals. ''Our Christmas this year, our family is not doing internal giving,'' he said. ''All external. So we're giving to others, so in [wife] Jada's name, I'll give to a charity or something like that. And that's almost bubbling from the kids. It's not like something that we have to say to them.'' http://www.ohio.com/lifestyle/34861014.html More pictures here! http://www.ohio.com/multimedia/photo_galle...toryID=34861014

Will Smith makes friends in stop here NOVEMBER 19 2008- Actor Will Smith poses for a photo with fans while walking the red-carpet before the premiere of his new film "Seven Pounds." at the AMC Creve Coeur Wednesday night. By Joe Williams It was a publicity blitz Big Willie-style as rapper-turned-actor Will Smith met fans and the media at several stops in St. Louis Wednesday. Smith was in town to promote his new movie "Seven Pounds," a drama that opens nationwide on Dec. 19. In the half day before attending a red-carpet reception and preview screening before a throng at the AMC Creve Coeur 12 cinema, Smith visited patients at St. Louis Children's Hospital; spoke to assemblies at Jefferson Elementary and Central Visual and Performing Arts High School; and sat with reporters at the Four Seasons hotel and the Post-Dispatch. Smith, 40, said in an interview with the Post-Dispatch that the hastily arranged tour to Miami, Dallas, St. Louis, Cleveland and Denver was inspired by the results of the recent presidential election. He said he wanted to get reacquainted with the America that had surprised him with its openness to change in electing Barack Obama as the first African-American president. He added that the last time he had embarked on such a city-to-city campaign was in the late 1980s, when the Philadelphia native was a rapper known as the Fresh Prince. From 1990 to 1996, Smith starred in the sitcom "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air." Since leaving television, Smith has become arguably the most popular movie star in the world, with a record eight consecutive movies earning more than $100 million at the box office, including the recent hits "I Am Legend" and "Hancock." In "Seven Pounds," Smith plays a mournful IRS agent who tries to atone for a mistake by improving the lives of seven strangers. In keeping with the message of the movie, Smith has incorporated philanthropy into each of the tour stops. On a makeshift stage in front of the theater Wednesday, Smith presented the St. Louis Area Foodbank with a giant "check" for 300 Thanksgiving turkeys from the Will and Jada Smith Family Foundation. Fans making food donations were entered into a drawing for tickets to the screening, which also was attended by rapper Chingy, former "Wizard of Oz" Munchkin Mickey Carroll, singer Nikko Smith and several members of the co-sponsoring St. Louis Rams. Before entering the theater, Smith encouraged the fans to reach out to the needy during tough economic times. Then he provided a vocal backbeat for them to rap the theme song to his old TV show. Among those in the audience was 21-year-old Summer Schmaltz of Creve Coeur, who had waited for more than five hours with a DVD of Smith's film "The Pursuit of Happyness." She said her previous brushes with fame included seeing Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin and Sen. John McCain on stops in Missouri during the presidential campaign. "But this is much cooler," she said. Her patience was rewarded with a hug from Smith. For more than half an hour, the Oscar-nominated star of "Ali" worked every corner of the crowd, autographing photos, magazines and even boxing gloves. Dozens of times he grabbed fans' cameras to include them with himself in a group portrait. "St. Louis has been fantastic to me," he said. http://www.stltoday.com/stltoday/entertain...00?OpenDocument

Operation Fresh Prince is in effect By Joe Williams Why yes, I did chat with Will Smith today. The erstwhile Fresh Prince of Bel Air, who has morphed into the most popular movie star on earth (and one of the more respected), came to the Post-Dispatch for an interview. Despite the bus, the entourage, the security team and the ruckus he caused in the newsroom, Smith was very personable, greeting everyone from the publisher of this newspaper to the homeless people on the sidewalk with the same graciousness. He and I talked about his upcoming film, “Seven Pounds,” a drama about a man making amends for some past mistakes. But the conversation quickly segued into a discussion about the nature of celebrity and the opportunities that Smith has to make the world a better place. While he was in St. Louis, he visited Children’s Hospital, and this evening (Wednesday) at 5:30 p.m. he will be at the Creve Coeur cinema, collecting items for the St. Louis Foodbank alongside Rams, Cardinals and other famous do-gooders. I’ll have more to say about his movie and the interview later; but for now I’ll simply attest that I found Smith to be one of the nicer celebrities I’ve met. Just by saying hi and making eye contact, he gives us little people a treat, and countless St. Louisans will have stories to tell about meeting him today. Sorta like when the Pope was in town–except Smith was smart enough to have his name plastered all over the Willmobile, so even the drivers on Highway 40 will know it was really him. http://www.stltoday.com/blogzone/joes-movi...e-is-in-effect/
