Hancock sleeve in subliminal ad shocker! http://img515.imageshack.us/img515/4621/coverff2.jpg Sony Pictures Home Entertainment recently unveiled the sleeve art for UK Blu-ray sleeve art for the Will Smith smash Hancock. The blockbuster is scheduled to hit both DVD and Blu-ray i the UK on December 1, but we wonder if anybody at Sony actually signed off on this piece of artwork. The first thing worth noting is that the artwork itself is horrible. Quite why the company didn't simply stick with the iconic close-up of Hancock's face that was used for the movie poster is beyond our comprehension. Still, as ugly as it is, at least it has been tweaked from the similar American sleeve, which managed to give away a rather major story spoiler regarding the film's plot! However, the most intriguing thing of all came when we took a closer look at the image. Clearly visible to Hancock's right is a huge billboard promoting the new series of Dexter... http://img515.imageshack.us/img515/7892/subliminalfc9.jpg It's a strange piece of 'almost subliminal' advertising, especially when you take into account the fact that this critically-acclaimed Showtime series is distributed on DVD by Paramount on both sides of the Atlantic, while Hancock is a Sony Pictures release. Have the two studio rivals come to some kind of cross-promotional agreement, or is somebody in Sony's art department going to get a very big slap on the wrist for this oversight? Preview on WorstPreviews.com Nobody can tell you what "Seven Pounds" is. December 5th, 2007: The story centers on a man who inadvertently falls in love with a woman while attempting to kill himself. What to Expect: Sometimes, mystery is a good marketing tool. If people don't know what the heck a movie is about, it can make them want to see it, if they're intrigued by the tidbits they're given by the studio. Remember those trailers for "The Matrix" with Laurence Fishburne intoning, in that stentorian voice of his, "No one can be told what the Matrix is. You have to see it for yourself." It's hard to remember, given how ingrained the entire Matrix concept is in our collective pop culture consciousness, that before the film came out, it was a big mystery. "What is The Matrix?" We were all dying to know. We were dying to know how the Matrix made Keanu Reeves dodge bullets all slow-mo. We were dying to see how super ninja kung fu fighting fit into all this. The problem with this strategy is that the answer has to be as intriguing as the riddle. Just ask M. Night Shyamalan how well audiences react when their expectations aren't met in that regard. Which brings me to "Seven Pounds," the newest entry in Will Smith's quest to get himself an Oscar, dammit. He has been nominated twice, once for "Ali" and once for "The Pursuit of Happyness," but has never won despite having recently become the record-holder for the longest streak of films that gross over 100 million dollars. Will Smith is the closest thing to a sure thing that exists in Hollywood, a man who is so likable and whose films are so dependably liked by audiences that even his less successful efforts are still good paydays for the studio. He has long owned the July 4th weekend, but after opening first "Happyness" and then "I Am Legend" and now this upcoming film in December, it seems he's angling to claim another holiday as Property of Will Smith. Despite this long history of box office success and a virtually ironclad public persona as a nice guy and dedicated family man, Will could use some shoring up. There's a word that's been haunting him the last few years. It's a word that has all but ruined Tom Cruise's once-bulletproof career. I'll give you a clue: it starts with "Scient" and ends in "Ology." Rumors have been flying for quite awhile that Will and his wife Jada Pinkett Smith, who are good friends with Cruise, converted to the Church of Scientology some time ago. It should be noted that merely being friends with Tom Cruise doesn't make somebody a Scientologist...but Smith would not be the first Friend of Tom to find himself giving money to Xenu. Scientology has such negative connotations to the public, and has done such damage to Cruise's image and career, that word went around last summer that Sony Pictures wanted Smith to publicly deny being a Scientologist before "Hancock" opened in theaters. Smith's reps had previously denied that he was a Scientologist, but Sony just wanted the matter reiterated. Word around the campfire is that Smith gave coupons for free E-meter readings (a Scientology device) to cast and crew as part of a wrap gift after the "Hancock" shooting was completed. It could have been a joke. Or not. Given all this history, I'll just let you decide how to interpret the interesting fact that Connor Cruise, Tom Cruise's adopted son, is making his film debut in "Seven Pounds," playing Smith's character as a teenager. An amazing coincidence? You be the judge. So, back to this film. The director, Gabriele Muccino, is an established Italian director re-establishing himself as a director of American films, the first of which was... hey, this sounds familiar..."The Pursuit of Happyness." On their surfaces, the two films seem to have some thematic similarities. Both appear to be about thoughtful men on their own looking to accomplish some deep, heartfelt goal and experiencing emotional complications in the form of cute children in "Happyness" and an apparently-sick Rosario Dawson in this one. So, what the heck is it about? No one seems to know. The official summaries are...well, "vague" would be overstating it. "Deliberately murky" would be more accurate. Smith plays Ben Thomas, an IRS agent who has done some unspecified awful thing which took seven seconds. He is trying to atone by choosing seven strangers for whom he is going to do Something Amazing but Unclear which change their lives forever. One of the seven strangers is Emily, played by Rosario Dawson; she and Ben form a romantic connection, which introduces complications into whatever the heck his plan is. So, what is he doing for these people? He works for the IRS, is he forgiving their huge tax debt? Is he arranging for them to win lottery windfalls? And what has he done that's so awful? What's his plan? The trailer gives away very little. The advanced publicity gives away even less. Speculation abounds. Nobody seems to know what the actual plot of this film is. Until now. I have used my mad crazy Internet sleuthing skills to unearth the plot of this movie, gleaned from some people on message boards who claim to have seen the script. I know, you can't believe everything you read on the Internet, but I've discovered the same plot posted several different places by different people, and it makes complete and total sense, so I'm inclined to believe it. Brace yourself, because it's actually pretty killer. Literally. I think this film's a pretty safe bet for a box office success. "Pursuit of Happyness" was a big hit for the kind of film it was, grossing $150 million off a $55 million budget. If "Seven Pounds" gets its expected Oscar nominations, that will guarantee additional business, and they're releasing the film late enough in the year to take advantage of it. Add that to the apparent film truism that people will go see Will Smith in anything, and you've got a recipe for a successful holiday-season drama. In Conclusion: December is definitely the time when moviegoers enjoy a good tearjerking drama, especially if it's a well-acted, well-written one populated by likable actors. http://www.worstpreviews.com/review.php?id...section=preview

By James Brady Publication Date: 10/19/2008 She’s married to one of the sexiest, wealthiest men in movies, and yet actress Jada Pinkett Smith was having breakfast coffee with me in her Park Avenue hotel suite. The petite (only 5 feet tall) wife of Will Smith, mother of two of his three kids, was in New York to promote her latest film, Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa, an animated adventure in which she reprises her voice role as Gloria the Hippo. In the film, due out Nov. 9, her 7-year-old daughter, Willow, provides the voice of the young Gloria. Will and Jada’s 10-year-old son, Jaden, also has been acting in movies. Did they encourage him? “It was something he wanted to do,” Jada said. “Will was complaining that he was having difficulty casting a boy in one of his films [The Pursuit of Happyness], and Jaden said, ‘I could play that role.’ Will said, ‘You’d have to audition.’ So he did and got the role, and now he’s done two movies.” So now four Smiths are pulling down Hollywood paychecks. Will has another son, Trey, from a previous marriage, so I asked Jada, “Are you now his stepmother?” “No,” she said. “I’m his bonus mother. He’s 16 and a football star in school.” And what is Will up to? “He’s at home this week doing the daddy thing,” said Jada. So he’s a good dad? “He’s a great daddy,” she said. And although Jada and Will have worked together on several film projects, she declared earnestly, “Our biggest production is the kids.” In addition to Madagascar, Jada starred with Annette Bening and Meg Ryan in a big remake of The Women, which opened last month. But her current passion is a new film, a mystery called The Human Contract. “I wrote the original screenplay, produced, directed, and played a role,” she said. “Directing is the new direction for me. There are so few good roles for women—I want to create some.” I’d read that she had asked her husband to direct her scenes in the film. True? “Yes, I asked him to have my back,” she replied. Does that mean the family that directs together stays together? “No,” replied Jada with a wicked grin. “Believe me, it’s more like the family that directs together has to work hard to stay together.” Brady's Bits When I met Jada, two husky, dark-suited young men shepherded me into and out of elevators and sat outside the hotel suite until I left. You get an appreciation that the Smith family is doing pretty well and is securely looked after —a sort of movieland aristocracy. How did she and Will first meet? “I was 19 and auditioning for the role of his girlfriend on Fresh Prince of Bel Air,” she said. “He was trying to be flirty with me, and I told him to cool it.” Jada did not get the role. “I kept a grudge,” she said. “I think I may have been the only black actress in Hollywood who was never on Fresh Prince. Will eventually asked me to come on, but I said no. He got me eventually—but not the actress.” Personal Born Sept. 18, 1971, in Baltimore, Md. Married to actor Will Smith since 1997. Two children: Jaden, 10, and Willow, 7. Why You Know Her Jada got her start on the Cosby spin-off A Different World, but her breakthrough was the Eddie Murphy film The Nutty Professor. She also starred in two Matrix movies. What You Don't Know Jada was Miss Maryland in 1988. When not acting, she sings with the hard rock/metal band Wicked Wisdom. The songwriter/rapper Tupac Shakur was a former classmate and close friend until his death in 1996. http://www.parade.com/celebrity/2008/10/ja...kett-smith.html

Mike Devlin , canada.com Published: Friday, October 17, 2008 DJ Jazzy Jeff, now on tour in Canada, says he and Will Smith have been talking of an official reunion for over a decade. Jeff Townes moved from Philadelphia to Delaware three years ago, cutting loose his 40-year relationship with the sixth largest city in the United States. For some, that's about as newsworthy as a bee fleeing from its hive. But when you consider that Townes is DJ Jazzy Jeff, and Philadelphia is the city that birthed DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince, one of the first commercially successful groups in hip hop, that's the hip-hop equivalent of Rocky Balboa having no love for the City of Brotherly Love. There's no drama to the story, Townes says. He wanted to build a new studio facility, from the ground up, and the cost of doing so in Delaware was more to his liking. Plus, Philly is only half an hour away, and he has plenty of friends and family who still live there. Townes says he will always be associated with the city, either through his friendship with his fellow Philly native, Oscar-nominated actor Will Smith -- the Fresh Prince to his Jazzy Jeff -- or the new music Townes produces as a solo artist and touring DJ. Life is good no matter where Townes rests his turntables. He learned to adapt long ago. "As much as I do love and miss those old days, I embrace the change," Townes, 43, says from his new home. Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince mean less to a wider audience than they do to fans of mid-'80s hip hop, the so-called "golden era" of beats and rhymes. To millions, they were the 20-somethings behind "Parents Just Don't Understand," the first rap single to win a Grammy. But to the underground faithful, Townes' incendiary scratching techniques from 1988 -- particularly the transformer scratch, now employed by every DJ working today -- re-wrote the hip-hop formula. The bit was perfected during the duo's second outing, He's the DJ, I'm the Rapper, which eventually sold millions of copies worldwide. It was the first commercial record that showcased a DJ, and put the technical on par with the verbal. "It was no-holds-barred, let's-just-try-it type of thing. That's how we approached it. When we'd go out on tour, we'd set routines and try stuff, and after the show we'd do a checklist: that worked really well, but they didn't get that; take this out and add this. After about the fifth date we had it worked out, to the point that we had a great show. That's how we would do our records." Townes still longs for those days. He appreciates modern hip hop, and has worked with some of the new-school's biggest names, from Eminem to the Roots. But when he tours, and he does frequently, Townes never forgets to showcase his famous routines, or drop an old-school joint. He loves touring Canada (his current trek, which began Thursday night in Vancouver, runs for 13 dates) and will respond in kind over the coming weeks. He has the respect of nearly everyone behind a turntable or with a microphone in their hand, yet Townes says he would trade all the accolades if only the creative tide would turn. "When I hear a song nowadays, I have to guess who it is, because everybody sounds the same." There's no mistaking the sound of Townes when he's on the wheels of steel, or Smith when he's getting jiggy on the mike. For that reason, talk of an official reunion between the two has been ever-present for over a decade. Townes and Smith are still tight, and often work together, so neither side is ruling it out. "Every time we get together, we talk about it," Townes said. "And I think it would be very well accepted. One of the biggest factors is that he's probably the biggest movie star on the face of the Earth. That's a big factor, because at the end of the day he's got a movie side and he's got a music side. And I don't think the movie side really likes the music side. I understand that. "If he makes a movie studio $750 million, they probably say he's crazy for wanting to do a record. But you know what? It's in his heart." DJ Jazzy Jeff's Canadian tour dates: 10/16 Vancouver 10/17 Whistler 10/18 Victoria, BC 10/19 Kelowna 10/22 Calgary 10/24 Winnipeg 10/26 Toronto 10/29 Sudbury 10/31 Barrie 11/1 Montreal 11/2 Ottawa 11/3 Kingston 11/4 Niagara Falls http://www.canada.com/topics/entertainment...f8-44d7c8c385e5

37 year old actress Jada Pinkett Smith, wife of probably the most popular actor in the world at the moment, Will Smith, smiled happily for Splash photographers when she was seen arriving back to her NYC Hotel in Midtown, Manhattan. Smith had been at a taping of the Early Show at the CBS studios, and looked slender with her tight jeans and red killer heel boots. Pics! http://splashnewsonline.celebuzz.com/2008/...is-looking.html

Rumor: Men in Black 3 is Still in Development Somewhere?
Ale replied to Ale's topic in Will Smith Movies
I'm with viber. MIB might be a more important movie than I am Legend, but if we're talking about performances, then I don't need to say that 'Legend' is far superior to MIB (and of course MIB 2), which is better for Will's career. Because I'm sure that's what Will wants, to be a better actor, to improve and develope his skills with every movie he makes (at least lately), so I don't think MIB 3 could help him to reach that, especially when the second part was so bad. Will needs to make movies like 'Seven Pounds' where people can appreciate his skills as an actor. -
"Notorious" Posters "Notorious" is about the life of rapper Christopher Wallace aka The Notorious BIG. In just a few short years, The Notorious BIG rose from the streets of Brooklyn to become one of the most influential hip hop artists of all time. BIG was a gifted storyteller; his narratives about violent life on the streets were told with a gritty, objective realism that won him enormous respect and credibility. His stories were universal and gave a voice to his generation. The film stars multiple award winner Angela Bassett as Christopher's mother Voletta Wallace, Derek Luke as Sean Combs, Anthony Mackie as Tupac Shakur and introducing Jamal Woolard as The Notorious BIG. The movie is scheduled to hit theaters on January 16th, 2009. http://www.worstpreviews.com/headline.php?...286&count=0
