  6. By Lacey Rose, Forbes.com Tinseltown's leading ladies may generate more tabloid ink, but when it comes to blockbuster paychecks, Hollywood is still a man's town. In an era where risk-averse studio executives have declared men the more reliable movie stars — and the more desirable moviegoers — perhaps it's no surprise that they are also the medium's top earners. The reality: Hollywood's 10 best-paid actors out-earned Hollywood's 10 best-paid actresses 2-to-1 over the course of the year. Collectively, the big screen's leading men took home an estimated $487 million this year, compared with the leading ladies' haul of $244.5 million. Will Smith leads the pack of Hollywood's best-paid actors, banking an estimated $80 million over the course of the year. Frequently called the hardest-working man in Hollywood, Smith has proved that no matter the genre — be it sci-fi thriller (Warner Bros.' I Am Legend) or sappy drama (Sony's The Pursuit of Happyness) — he can deliver an audience. The former Fresh Prince of Bel Air star also set a theatrical record this year. Thanks to the commercial success of this summer's anti-superhero flick Hancock, Smith is the first actor in Hollywood history to have eight straight movies eclipse $100 million at the box office. Coming in second on the list is Pirates of the Caribbean star Johnny Depp, an actor who is known to vacillate between commercial work and artier fare. He still managed to pull down $72 million this year. In this case, the bold-faced star followed up his three turns as Captain Jack Sparrow in Disney's $2.76 billion Pirates franchise with the Stephen Sondheim serial-killer musical Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Flat Street. Though the latter hardly set box office records, it did earn Depp an Oscar nomination. With $55 million, Eddie Murphy comes in third among Tinseltown's top earners, thanks to a slew of family-friendly hits. The long-reigning master of disguise continues to prove his range on-screen, playing notable roles in everything from animated flicks (DreamWorks' Shrek) to goofball comedies (DreamWorks' Norbit) to musical remakes (DreamWorks' Dreamgirls). The latter earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor. Then there's Austin Powers star Mike Myers, who is tied for third on this list with earnings of $55 million, due in large part to the success of the hit animated franchise Shrek. But when it comes to live-action fare, the comedy chameleon's ride has been far less smooth in recent years. Despite a stellar cast (including Justin Timberlake and Jessica Alba) and plenty of promotion, Myers' summer comedy The Love Guru failed to deliver at the box office. To date, the Paramount flick has generated only $31.8 million domestically. Titanic's Leonardo DiCaprio rounds out the top five, raking in $45 million during the year. He's the unique movie star who can get $20 million for work in R-rated adult dramas, which, because of viewer age restrictions, have limited ability to generate big box office numbers. Though his flicks are rarely blockbusters, DiCaprio's work can create a sizable amount of Academy Award season buzz. In fact, three of his last five flicks —Gangs of New York, The Aviator and Departed— were nominated for Best Picture. The latter took home the Oscar. © 2008 Forbes.com LLC. All Rights Reserved. 7. 6:01pm UK, Tuesday July 22, 2008 Batman star Christian Bale has left a London police station after being questioned over claims he assaulted his mother and sister. His arrest comes just a day after the British actor attended the premiere of his new film, The Dark Knight, in London. Bale, 34, is alleged to have lashed out at the two family members in his suite at Park Lane's Dorchester Hotel on Sunday. The star, who plays the Caped Crusader, was quizzed by detectives at a central London police station. The two women, who live in Dorset, went to a Hampshire police station yesterday to make a formal allegation. The complaint about the actor was then passed to the Metropolitan Police for further investigation. A police spokeswoman said: "A 34-year-old man attended a central London police station this morning by appointment. "He was arrested in connection with an allegation of assault." Bale had joined Batman co-stars Sir Michael Caine, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Aaron Eckhart at the Odeon West End cinema in Leicester Square last night. Sky's showbiz correspondent Steve Hargrave interviewed Bale at a London hotel yesterday and later at the premiere. He said there was nothing in his demeanour to suggest he had been involved in an alleged family row. Hargrave said: "He (Bale) wasn't the most overtly cheery but he wasn't particularly rude to me when I sat down in the Dorchester to interview him. "Maybe he sounded a bit abrupt on some answers." The Dark Knight, which also stars the late Heath Ledger as The Joker, broke box office records when it opened in the US at the weekend. The 28-year-old, who is tipped for a posthumous Oscar, died from an accidental drugs overdose in January. Bale, a keen environmental activist and martial arts enthusiast, has also starred in American Psycho, Empire Of The Sun and Batman Begins. http://news.sky.com/skynews/Home/Showbiz-N...527assault%2527
  8. 'In Living Color' is legendary I can't wait to see his next movie called "Yes Man". He's back with comedy again!
  9. Nice article. Good to see Skillz defending Will. I dislike Eminem each day more, I dunno how people can admire such an arrogant guy like him. And I won't even waste my time talking about Bow Wow.
  10. He has made pretty good movies: 'The Mask' (very entertaining), 'Dumb & Dumber" (my favourite), 'The Cable Guy' (very underrated), 'The Truman Show' (probably his best movie so far), 'Bruce Almighty' and 'The Number 23', just to name a few. I didn't like 'Ace Ventura' and its sequel so much though. But as a comedian, he's just awesome. There is no other like him. U rock Jim!!! :wickedwisdom:
  11. Love him. I'm a big Jim Carrey fan! Some classic videos of him: Jim Carrey: What is love? Jim Carrey: Buffed Beautiful and Bitchin' Jim Carrey: Somebody to love (Cable Guy) He'll always be my favourite comedian!! :hail:

  14. , and a worse storyline. To make it more "Big Willie", hollywood blockbuser comedy/action. Couldn't agree more with this
  15. The 'Tonight, He Comes' script was great in my opinion.
  16. Yes he has: Ali. 'Training Day' was a great movie but Will's performance deserved that Oscar. Congratulations! We're still waiting for your reply in this thread dedicated to you tho' :lolsign: http://www.jazzyjefffreshprince.com/forum/...showtopic=12351
  17. IMDb: Metacritic: Rotten Tomatoes: Awesome...
  18. Quick question for those who have seen the movie: "Is 'TDK' a masterpiece?"
  19. Saw the movie yesterday. Will's worst movie since Men In Black II, which means I, Robot is even better IMO. I'm not saying Hancock sucks. It's just that the way they wanted to tell us the story is disappointing. Funny and entertaining, of course, but disappointing. Apart from that, I'm sure it could have been a lot better if they hadn't tried to get the PG-13 rating. What could have been a great movie is just a good movie in its first half and a very bad movie in its second half. I know many people will disagree but it's what I think. Will's performance is outstanding. If it wasn't for him, this movie would be nothing. He's an actor so talented that has the ability to make people laugh and cry . Performances like this are the reason why he is the biggest star in the world.

  21. moviehole.net says this is not true... http://www.jazzyjefffreshprince.com/forum/...showtopic=12391
  22. Roger Friedman mentioned today that “[Tom] Cruise is probably not going to be playing the role of Edwin A. Salt, a fictional CIA officer who is outed as a spy” in Phil Noyce’s “Edwin A. Salt”. Says the author, it’s over money. “Apparently, Tom is unaware of the change in his status in the Hollywood community. Where once he was the top-paid star, Cruise now is in a position where a $20 million salary is not possible. I’m told an internal memo went around among the film’s producers and top creators in which the Cruise situation was discussed and names were gathered for a replacement.” Friedman adds that Will Smith will likely replace Cruise. Thing is, this isn’t true. We can confirm that this isn’t true - none of it. High-ranking contacts within the production tell us - and we quote - “The studio, producers, director and potential star (Cruise) are all waiting on a rewrite of the script from Kurt Wimmer, which is due in a few weeks. Will Smith has not been approached to star. Cruise is the only actor who has been approached.” Cruise is still very much set for “Edwin A. Salt”. http://www.moviehole.net/2008/07/18/cruise...rumours-untrue/
