  7. Connor Cruise to Hit the Big Screen Following in his parents' footsteps, Connor Cruise will make his film debut in the upcoming Will Smith drama Seven Pounds, PEOPLE has learned. Connor, 13 – who has grown up around movie sets with mom Nicole Kidman and dad Tom Cruise – will play a young version of Smith in a very minor role. Even with such famous acting mentors in his corner, Connor had to audition for the part. "Tom is so proud of Connor," says a source. "He's proud of him for really doing this on his own." The Columbia Pictures film, which is still in production, also costars Woody Harrelson and Rosario Dawson. – Elizabeth Leonard and Alexis Chiu Source: http://www.people.com/people/article/0,,20193895,00.html ___________________________________________________________________ I'm lost... 16. A new Internet music company is looking to displace YouTube, MySpace and MTV.com as the hub for music videos on the Internet. PluggedIn, a Santa Monica-based startup launching tomorrow, is backed by Overbrook Entertainment, the production and management company co-founded a decade ago by Will Smith. PluggedIn wants to be the preeminent online repository for high-definition music videos on the Web and a new place for artists to plant their online flag. The site will launch with 10,000 free, high-quality music videos licensed from Universal, Sony BMG and Sony. The videos played quickly and looked sharp on a test version of the site earlier this week. The site also offers more than a million comprehensive artist pages, using what you might call a little Internet sleight of hand. Videos, photos, biographies and blog items that are posted elsewhere on the Web are vacuumed up by PluggedIn and displayed on the artist’s page as if the material was freshly baked on site. Users can do the usual stuff on PluggedIn: make video playlists, follow the activities of bands or friends, meet other aficionados with similar tastes and feast on targeted advertising and shopping opportunities. The competition is everywhere, of course. Most prominently, MySpace recently announced a joint venture with all four major music labels to spin out MySpace Music, an effort that is sure to feature music videos and exclusive content from bands. So where does Pluggedin fit in? “We look at the all the changes shaping online entertainment and see massive opportunity for lots of companies to appreciate and forge really viable consumer connections,” said Jeff Somers, chief executive of PluggedIn. “We think what will separate us from what is out there today is an unbelievable high-quality viewing experience, matched with in-depth content and community tools.” In an increasingly crowded online music environment, is that enough? Time for the readers to weigh in. http://bits.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/04/15/c...-and-pluggedin/

  19. Eminem 'confirms' Mandela gig appearance Friday, April 11 2008, 10:30 BST By Alex Fletcher, Entertainment Reporter Eminem has confirmed his appearance at Nelson Mandela's 90th birthday party this summer, say reports. The controversial hip-hop star was lured into playing a comeback show by Queen guitarist Brian May, reports The Sun. A source said: "We’re amazed to have Eminem on board. We wanted some of the greatest artists from recent times and Eminem was on the list. "Brian contacted Eminem’s management on the off-chance and never expected him to go for it. It’s going to be explosive stuff and it’s certainly a big stage to make his comeback." They added: "I know Eminem’s lyrics are always at the centre of controversy but people forget he did actually sing with Elton John at the Grammys. He also publicly apologised for the offence caused by racist lyrics." Eminem announced his retirement from music in 2005, but he is currently rumoured to be working on a new studio album for release later this year. Stevie Wonder, Annie Lennox, Razorlight and Keane are also rumoured to be playing the concert at London's Hyde Park on June 27. It was revealed last month that Will Smith and wife Jada Pinkett Smith would host the tribute to the former South African president. http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/music/a93569/e...appearance.html
  20. Sneak peek: 'Hancock' — Another superhero with issues? By Scott Bowles, USA TODAY "He does as much damage as good": That's how director Peter Berg describes Hancock, the offbeat superhero who will be played by Will Smith. The movie opens July 2. LOS ANGELES — Every superhero has a weakness. Hancock just happens to be flush with them. He hates his job, loves his booze and would be pulled over for flying under the influence — if anyone could catch him after he has plowed through a building or traffic sign. All of which makes the Will Smith film, due July 2, an anomaly among superhero pictures, most of which are ripped from the pages of comic books. "He does as much damage as good," director Peter Berg says from the set on Hollywood Boulevard, where he and crews have turned over trucks, set fires and scattered plastic rubble to turn Los Angeles into a city of ruin. "Jimmy Kimmel was watching from his office and shaking his head at us like, 'What the hell are you doing?' " Berg says. "There are a lot of fun things to making a movie, but the best is creating an entire world that feels real." Part of getting real: using a harness and wires, not a green screen, to make Smith's superhero fly. The actor was suspended 200 feet above the ground and propelled at 50 mph, and he's more than fine with it. "The computer effects look great," Smith says after being unhooked from his ride down the famed street, home of the Kodak Theatre and the Oscars. "But it's more fun to get your hands dirty." http://www.usatoday.com/life/movies/news/2...cock-peek_N.htm
  21. April 8, 2008 9:07 p.m. EST Jan Westmark - Celebrity News Service Los Angeles, CA (CNS) - How "Suite" it is to be famous! When pint-size actor Jaden Smith, son of Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith, announced to Matt Lauer on the "Today" show that he would like to be on the Disney Channel show "The Suite Life of Zack & Cody," well, his wish was granted. The producers at Disney saw the "Today" show and tracked Jaden down and offered him a role. He will play a young globe-trotter named Travis whose knowledge of the finer things, like gourmet food and Japanese tea ceremonies, will come in handy for twin brothers Zack and Cody, played by Dylan and Cole Sprouse, when it is time to impress their girlfriends. It's not a coincidence either, that Jaden will be playing the son of a ship captain and the Disney Channel is gearing up for a spin-off called "The Suite Life on Deck." Jaden appeared in the movie "The Pursuit of Happyness" with his dad, Will Smith. http://www.allheadlinenews.com/articles/7010577614
