Mase, Mase, Mase... There are so many stories as to why he left music and New York, very few people know exactly what to believe. As for Kanye... I'm not sure we can compare a song like "Workout Plan" to "Girls."

The ironic thing is that, I'm willing to bet, the majority of modern rappers live "better" lives than they rap about. Kids probably would be better off seeing those rappers real lives rather then listening to their music. Lol, excellent point. As Cozmo said, a lot of these rappers are making music depicting themselves as international drug lords while they're claiming that they're keeping it real. It's one thing when it's simply entertainment, and even then, a lot of the content in these rhymes is questionable, but when the line is blurred between entertainment and reality as many of these rappers have done, it becomes apparent that a lot of them don't even remember how to keep it real. In that respect, Kanye's a better pick, but I think we can still do better.

I think the fear is that one day, this will become more of a hackneyed "do what I say, not what I do" campaign for the positive rap genre. While the issue over Kanye's pornography archive (500 dollars isn't a stash, it's an archive) seems somewhat contrived, it does speak to a larger concern about how these positive rappers present themselves. The catch with Kanye specifically is that Jesus Walks received a great deal of praise, possibly premature, from Christian groups who were pleased that he was willing to acknowledge a religious theme in his music. Even further, he also received a great deal of praise, amid controversy, from secular groups for his boldness and his willingness to stand as a vanguard of positive rap. As a result, when embarassing details come out about his personal life, it's not as easy to shrug off as he would like to. Cozmo makes a good point concerning focusing on teachings rather than the teacher, but oftentimes, a living example is far more powerful than the words he or she speaks, especially for young people. Young people are more realily apt to act on what they see rather than what they hear. At the very least, it creates a sense confusion... should a person heed what is said, or what is done. Now all this doesn't directly relate to Kanye's situation per se. He's not going around rapping about how others shouldn't buy pornography and buying it himself, but it does bring up the topic Tim addressed; in general are these positive rappers going to live the way they encourage others to live in their music. They may see themselves as only entertainers, but a lot of people take them more seriously and look at their lives more closely than they may expect.

But in all seriousness, my concern is that we're so desperate for a leader, we're quick to annoint anyone who has a platform and voices their opinions based on the fact that we like them. Are we that lost that we need Kanye West to be our leader? Also, if one day he does seek to become a veritable leader, others have ammunition to criticize him inspite of the relevance. Is it fair? Maybe not, but it's reality. The College Dropout was included on a ballot for the Stellar Awards, a prestigious gospel award. Kanye's been invited to churches to perform Jesus Walks... Whether you believe him to be a leader, a role model or just an example... this may affect how people look at him. Lerkot... We're talking about 2000 years ago... We won't be dropping inches and Fahrenheit anytime soon...

Frenetic, you know that I hold Will to some level of complicity in the matter. We had this discussion a few months back and for the most part, our points were the same. We were even called impatient while album sales were dropping. Where we do differ is on the topic of whether Will set aside enough time for music and whether he is rushing back into film. Will had more than adequate time for music, but it's apparent that promotion was mismanaged and that either he, interscope, overbrook or a mixture of the three didn't do everything that could have been done to ensure the sort of success Lost and Found deserved. The level of blame each party should receive is unknown... I'm not even going to guesstimate, but I do understand that you want to point out that Will may deserve some blame. I think that's fair.

That's understandable, but you've drawn the conclusion that because you know people who don't live what they profess, "It's so fake church isn't nothing but mind control." It only means that the people you have observed may not be genuine or mature in their faith. It doesn't mean that church is fake or is a form of mind control. Also, I'm not sure what you mean when you refer to a "White Jesus." Are you criticizing the religion itself?

It's just that no one has told him yet. And yet you've never been to church, so exactly where does that insight come from. by knowing that after 18 months Will is going to begin filming another movie, and by releasing the albums and singles in a timely manner. Switch February Party Starter May Tell Me Why July and still Will can promote the music and then get back to film.. I think its more important for him to take the time off from movies to MAKE the album, and make it good..rather than taking time off to promote it. I couldnt care less if Will made a horrible album and then spent 9 months promoting it, all I care about is if when i buy my new will album if its gonna be as good as the others. Fully agree. While Lost and Found didn't do as well as I would have liked it to, we could have gotten another Born 2 Reign. He put the time in to make a quality album. Singles releases were mismanaged though, and we still aren't sure exactly why.

You guys just got done talking about how Kanye West was a leader when he called out the president on national television so I'm not sure why he shouldn't be considered a role model. It seems that someone who is a leader would be a role model for others as well. In kind, I fully agree that parents should be the primary role models for their children, and it is unfortunate that this is not the reality right now, however, whether we like it or not, Kanye has some level of influence and there are young people who admire him. While it is his personal business, it's not something that will endear him to people.
