Major, major props to Nick for taking a step back and hitting us with a serious and deep track. Always liked him his as an entertainer... even from my "All That" days, but now he's earning a little respect in hip hop. Hope he continues.

I personally think this would be an excellent idea.

Party Starter is coming out sometime this month. What better unveiling than a stage as big as the NBA finals. Also, Will has performed Party Starter before... so there's no reason that he can't again. More likely than not, the NBA asked him to specifically perform Switch.

Who should be on a Party Starter remix?
MaxFly replied to thezone's topic in Jazzy Jeff & Fresh Prince
Ludacris, no doubt. I can actually see Kel Spencer on the remix as well. As much as it pains me to say this, Kels is the king of remixes... I'm sure he' drop something hot as well. There are actually quite a lot of possibilities, but one thing I'm wary of, if the remix is hot as well, haters, knowing that Will dropped a hot joint for the summer, are gonna be like, "so and so made it hot, Will was just along for the ride." So I'd like it to be Kel or someone else who isn't as widely known in the main stream, so if some hater does want to play down Will's role in how hot the track is, someone with tight skills will be the default beneficiary of the hating, bringing them up in the process. -
Check it out.

I definitely agree. Toss in BWS and Will def has one of the best music catalogues in the last decade.

I'm just waiting for Party Starter to hit and for the video to come out. First off, I don't think Switch would be able to compete with Party Starter. That's not something I see happening, regardless of how much Switch has sold. And if Tell Me Why comes out in time for some of these awards... I don't see any songs that will be able to compete with it. I haven't heard too much buzz about anything off anyone's album... we'll see. Just a few more days until Party Starter hits

Lol, or he could just do Party Starter and not make me stop the recording prematurely. :wiggle:
-
Lol, Tim and his underworld connections. Just kidding. But thanks for the picts. There do seem to be a number of old people there. Looks like Will hasn't lost his original fanbase.

People don't battle because people in general don't have those skills anymore. For example, Jadakiss challenged 50 to a battle on pay-per-view, but we all know 50's not going to do that, and we all know why. People don't like to be embarrassed, the egos are too huge, and they can't back up 87% of the stuff they say. People can say stuff about whomever they want in their written lyrics and get away with it. These days, people want to front about who sells more and who has a bigger gun collection instead of testing their true skills as rhymers. Why don't people just schedule freestyle battles to resolve beef? Because 75% of the people on 106 and Park's freestyle friday could beat most of these rappers out now.

If U Cant Dance (Slide) vs UTFO - Roxanne, Roxanne
MaxFly replied to Hero1's topic in Jazzy Jeff & Fresh Prince
Yeah. I mean, it just goes to show how knowledgeable Will is about music, and how creative he is. -
The article seems to imply that Will and Tommy Lee Jones seemed to team up to put forward the idea for a second sequel. We know that Will is creative, so the movie has a good chance of being good. I think this could be redemtion for MIIB. I personally had mixed feelings about MIIB. The plot was ridiculously contrived, but that didn't stop me from laughing at most of the jokes... "Kay, why you put them rats in my locker man?"

Thanks for the scans Tim. Great read.

I think Tell Me Why and Party Starter have a chance to do very well. I really can't see anyone beating Tell Me Why for a grammy right now. At the very least, Will will be nominated a few times... but I do expect him to win a few awards.

First true NBA superstar. Moment of silence...
-
Thanks for the extra information cataboy3. Great reading.
-
I know I should be more judicious with my topic making... but I couldn't help myself. I'm watching the Heat vs. Pistons game right now, and the MIIB track was just used in a promo for the game. No video, just the audio. But this bodes well for Will's June 9th performance... Hopefully, he won't be doing MIIB though, lol... which is unlikely anyway... but just an update guys.

I'll get a recorded version up, and it'll have pretty good quality. I plan on putting up the entire awards show since Will and Jada are hosting, so the files will either be relatively large, 100 megs per file, or there Will be a lot of them. For those of you who have dial up connections... plan accordingly, lol. Also, the files won't be up for too long, at most, a week, so you'll have to download as soon as possible. I'll provide more info as the date approaches. I'm sure there will be other people recording as well, so thankfully, I'm not the last hope.

I don't know... As incredible as I'm Comin' is, the title track off of Born to Reign certainly gave me more chills... shoot, it still gives me chills, but I wouldn't dare say Born to Reign was the better album. For Lost and Found... Tell Me Why, Loretta, and Ms. Holy Roller may not exactly give people chills, but they certainly force people to sit back and think, and think hard. I think that's the most powerful thing music can do, make you really think about the message and topics addressed. Willenium gives you that, but Lost and Found gives you so much more. I think we have to take the full body of both albums into consideration. Willenium is a great album for Will Smith fans and those who appreciate true hip hop. Lost and Found is a great album for hip hop in general because it addresses issues that rappers and anyone who listens to hip hop need to acknowledge. It's hard to choose, because both albums are great, but I definitely have to give the nod to Lost and Found for what it means to hip hop. That's a role Willenium can't fill, a message for the times.

That was a great interview Tim. Good work. Enjoyed reading it. Hopefully, Kel does big things in the near future.
-
Ty's most likely right. It's probably a rerun. But for anyone who missed it last time or didn't get a chance to record it... it's on again. I know I missed it last time, so I'm gonna try to record it for my collection this time.
-
Lost and Found... just a wide range of interesting topics. But it's more opinion than anything else. Someone may like Willenium more... and that's fine.
-
Wasn't aware it was made into a new video. I haven't seen this info elsewhere on the forum, but I could have missed it as well. Thanks for the info.

I don't know... I think it would be best for Will to firmly re-establish himself on his own merits before he starts collabing with people for whole albums. I'd more like to see him doing independent collaborations with the likes of a Lauryn Hill or a John Legend, or even Musiq or Glenn Lewis... Something of substance, with soul.
