  1. I don't think we should only go by who was shouted out in the song. There are many other people that Will could have mentioned. Common and others. I maintain that Mos Def and Rakim are the most qualified in that poll to bring even more credibility to this track. Those two are living what Will is talking about. If it was a song about flossing, then we could have Jay on it. If it was a song about a female, then LL would be the most qualified. But this is a song about the state of hip hop, individualism, and diversity, and Mos or Rakim most deserve the opportunity to spit some lyrics on the subject. This isn't to diss Jay or LL. They are qualified as well. I just thing that Mos and Rakim would deserve the opportunity more.
  2. Will Smith has said that gangsta rap is wack... Not only that, but he has lived a life that complements this stance, that's what's most important. In his music, he's always accentuated the positives in his life and speaks against those who only rhyme about the negatives... so first, let me make it clear that he is as real as it gets when it comes to hip hop. Does Will Smith listen to gangsta rap... Yes and No. He does listen to certain artists that employ some of the aspects of gangsta rap in their rhymes... but NWA and Public Enemy have a message behind their rhymes... Dre was speaking to how people were really living. But Will has always been careful to say that though at times he listens to this music, he believes that these same artists should explore other topics and emotions outside of anger in their music. You also have to realize that the gangsta rap we have today is just a marketing ploy. Long gone are the days when rappers were being honest with themselves and their surroundings. After '93... people were spitting gangsta rap, not because it was a lifestyle that they lived, but because it was profitable. The imagery and lifestyle appealed to the hip hop masses. But Will Smith has been steadfast on the issue since he started rapping. There are other topics, other emotions, other situations in your life other than killing people, selling crack, and calling girls "hoes." That's what he's speaking about when he says gangsta rap is wack. He's speaking about the culture that rappers praise... when in reality, not only are they not living the sorts of lives that they claim they have, but in the process, they're poisoning the minds of children with their lies. For more detail, listen to the title track of Born to Reign. Will clarifies everything.
  3. Lol, I don't know about that. And the Celtics do it again... Shut the Pacers down...
  4. Ouch... owned. Lol, pretty much. :kekeke:
  5. I know that many if not most of the members on this forum are from other countries, and I think it would be interesting as well as enlightening to hear what your thoughts are on the events that are taking place in the middle east, especially with the elections having taken place in Iraq, developments in Lebanon, Iran's movement towards nuclear capability, etc... Fully aware that much of the world sees these things differently from the US... It would be interesting to hear the next generations ideas and opinions on these issues.
  6. Okay. So why did it take him four years to write a "How to explain Septermber 11th to my kids" song? Lol, it's not even a "How to explain Septermber 11th to my kids" song. There are a lot of other issues he deals with in the course of the song. If he had written this song... lets say... a month after sept 11th occured, Will wouldn't have addressed the priest issue, the sniper issue, Jam Master J.... Indeed, bad things are always taking place in the world, and the question Will asks is how do you explain this to your kids and help them deal with it. Not just Sept. 11th... but a lot of the other bad things that take place as well. Will could have mentioned things that have taken place in Iraq, Africa and Indonesia as well... but I'm not as concerned with why he doesn't address these issues as much as I am concerened with what issues he does address.
  7. I think it's a documentary or something of that nature... Interesting though.
  8. And I think what people miss is that, yes, "Gettin' Jiggy Wit It" was silly, but it was made to be that way, lighthearted and carefree hip hop. But even if it is silly or corney, I maintain that if you're name is Vanilla Ice... you just need to refrain from making statements about hip hop in general. It's like me, with my minimal programming skills talking about how Bill Gates needs to step his programming skills up... Yeah, Steve Jobs and others can criticize him. I on the other hand should just put my head down and keep it moving. Vanilla Ice... lower you head and keep it moving... try not to bring anymore attention to yourself...
  9. Not necessarily... He's suspended for just one game... But I really don't know what the Celtics are doing... They should have won this series 4-1... The Pacers are so depleted, it's not even funny. Look for the Celts to come out hard in game 4. If not, it really may be over...
  10. Vanilla Ice! Hahahahaha... Vanilla Ice would be an expert right.... There are just certain people in the world that should keep quiet on certain issues. Ron Artest should keep quiet about the violent turn basketball has taken and what we can do to stop it. OJ Simpson should keep quiet on any issue related to the American legal system. Bill Clinton should keep quiet on issues relating to Washington scandals. Georges Bush should keep quiet on anything related to weapons of mass destruction anywhere in the world. Vanilla Ice should keep quiet on anything related to hip hop, rap music and entertainment... period. Incidentally, didn't gettin' jiggy wit it make it pretty high up on the music charts... How many albums did Big Willie Style sell... right...
  11. Check this out... Filmography Scroll down to filmography. Anyone know what to make of this... Have these been confirmed, or is this outdated information? What's the deal with Pursuit of Happiness?
  12. Yeah, in fact, Will is almost obsessed with chess... Will is very intelligent... he used to write poetry even before his teen, did well in school, and was even accepted to MIT. All around talent that man.
  13. Welcome amagendo... see you around the forum...
  14. Mos Def... the subject matter of the track follows closely with what Mos is all about in music. I think he would bring even more credibility to the track as well as some extra knowledge...
  15. This may be more than just insanity... having the wherewithal to type out your insanity... lol, I hope this isn't a medical condition...
  16. R u crazy?!? That shirt is kickin'. U gotta have personality 2 pull off a shirt like that. Besides, u gotta keep in mind that in the early/mid 90's when the label waz active, cloths like that were in style. Have u never watched a show called The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air? :kekeke: Lol, there's a reason why Will doesn't wear clothes like that anymore...
  17. That's just plain horrible... damn interscope... lol
  18. Lol... I'm too late... I was gonna call this one... But it's definitely a 10, especially compared to the other stuff that's coming out. Also unlike a lot of people, I like Wave 'em Off...
  19. Tell Me Why isn't a 9/11 song... I cringe whenever I hear that. Rather, as Tim said, I myself see it as someone trying to figure how how to explain to his children why so many horrible things take place in the world.
  20. The re-emergence of Rakim would be a beautiful thing... That lil cameo he had on Addictive with Truth Hurts wasn't even close to enough... Lol, in fact, I'm gonna go watch that video...
  21. It's a dag gone super cd... I want to hear this SMARY track... Hong Kong just does everything big... they just rolled out 1Gb Broadband... I mean... jeez... I could take over the world with that...
