  1. Well, Will has already succeeded in making great movies... I don't think that there is any doubt that this will be a great movie. It's always nice to get that recognition though. The biggest knock against Will that critics bring up is the notion that he can't act, that he doesn't have range of character, and that he gets by on charm or special effects. An oscar would really serve to dissuade people of those opinions. It's also always good to be recognized by your contemporaries. Don Cheadle gave an interview sometime during the filming of Hotel Rwanda where he discussed how he managed to join that project. He mentioned that the producers had originally wanted Will Smith to play the lead role, and he sort of laughed it off like, 'would you believe that, they want Will Smith for this role.' I'm really not sure how seriously he's taken, and he must realize this as well. I feel as if he's still proving himself and he may very well feel the same way.
  2. Thanks for that blog MissAshley. It's great to hear that so many people who have seen the movie have good things to say about it.
  3. Thrilled to see that my tax dollars are being used well.
  4. Excellent article... no mention of JJFP?
  5. Like a science... I think you guys are the ones being cynical...there's nothing wrong with heartwarming stories. Sometimes in life heartwarming stuff does happen like the life of Chris Gardner. I'm not being cynical at all. Will himself has admitted that that is how he chose many of his roles... Nothing wrong with that at all.
  6. As a sidenote, there are a bunch of 22 year olds here... Just goes to show that 1984 was the best year ever...
  7. You know, I still can't get over my disappointment in "Born to Reign." The title track had me so hyped, and then... sudden destruction... :shakehead:
  8. Name: Dwane Joseph Age: 22 Location: Boston/Cambridge, Mass JJFP Fan Since: 1992 Job: School/web design and web publishing on the side
  9. I somewhat agree with Ted and fan 4ever.
  10. I was trying to figure out whether it was Will or Phil, but it doesn't sound like the crying noises they were making, and it does sound feminine. I hear the same sound on the DVD. I agree with Julie... people are going to be crying at Pursuit of Happyness. I've resolved that I'm going to go with a bunch of girls and see if they cry.
  11. Pretty much everyone has seen this scene, but can anyone else hear an audience member crying at the 6:59 or 7:00 minute mark of the clip? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NxU9fOz_TJg
  12. lol, this thread wasnt even about portable video players. i could've told you a year ago that everyone would buy it simply because its new and some people have to have new technology. its also a fun idea, just not worth the money if you dont need it. i still feel the same way about it as last year in regards to me, cuz it would be a waste of my money. Not directly, but it sort of is. Look how well the video iPod has done. You characterized video players as a "waste of my money," but I wasn't simply talking about the player itself... I was talking about the techology. The original iPods by themselves were expensive... The generation 1 and 2s could have been considered a "waste of my money." Now we have iPods that have similar prices to the original iPods and they now have video capabilities in addition to music, and games. If the developers are RCA, Apple, Microsoft, Archos, and Creative went around saying that these things are a "waste of money," portable video technology wouldn't have advanced as much as it has in just a year. Instead, they saw the possibilities and marketed to people who could find use for it. The argument that it's "not worth the money if you don't need it" isn't much of an argument. There are many many things that aren't worth the money if you don't need them or don't have a use for them. The key is marketing the technology in a way that will demonstrate its usefullness and to those who will find it useful. Most successful technologies have gone through this phase where people can't see how it could possible be useful... televisions, personal computing, cell phones... If we were talking about the player by itself, that would be one thing, but we're really talking about the technology as a whole.
  13. This reminds me of a discussion we had late last year in which people said that portable video player technology and players in general are gratuitous, expensive and unreasonable... Seems like the people at Apple, Creative, Archos, and RCA knew better. Just look at all the hype the iPod by itself has created concerning portable music and video... And in just one year. I think I called this one... It's funny reading some of the arguments from back then. http://www.jazzyjefffreshprince.com/forum/...%20Player&st=20 yeah my only problem with the I-Pod is that is designed to take your money with the accessories. if you really wanted to, you could find a 5 volt adapter (a lot of discman wall adapters are around 5 volts) and then connect the the I-Pod plug to the adapter wire and make one for cheaper. of course you'd need to find the plug that goes into the I-Pod, but it would probably be less than 30 bucks. Actually, I think it's the other way around; companies want to capitalize on the success of the iPod, and that's where a lot of these accessories come from. If the iPod weren't as successful as it is now, the iPod would still be around as is, but the accessories wouldn't exist.
