  1. Potnas = the hip hop term for partners.
  2. That dude spoke the truth. If only everyone felt this way, then the game would change (which it needs to). He basically explained a lot of people's feelings toward what hip hop has become. I agree with him 100%. Mad props for the dope article.
  3. Gotta love Ain't No Place Like Home. Very original theme and everything about it is dope. Just a track you can listen to all the time though, not just during the holidays (even if it really has a holiday feeling).
  4. All the JJFP comback album hype is definitely a good thing for this site. Thats an awesome accomplishment Tim!
  5. The Sun isn't a reliable source, and I would highly doubt that JJFP will make a new album anytime soon.
  6. Nice video Kev. Looking forward to the "Hip Hop" music vid.
  7. Maybe some kind of micro chip that will hold music on it, will take the place of cds. But I like cds a lot and will always buy cds. I don't really see cds dieing off though.
  8. Yeah, I posted this video sometime last year. Good video though.
  9. I think that I'm going to check it. Thanks Tim!
  10. Yo AJ That sounds dope. Thanks for sharing dude! I think I'm going to have to pick that up for sure. Its great to have some new listening material with TROTM and now this. :woot:
  11. I gotta go with TROTM too. Not that The Maginificent wasn't a good album or anything, but I just love TROTM. There are too many classic songs and outstanding production. Its crazy to hear the progress Jeff has made on the beats. I really liked the songs Practice, Hold It Down, The Garden, Run That Back, The Definition, All I Know, and Hip Hop. My favorites from the Maginificent were For Da Love, Da Ntro, Break it Down, and Musik Lounge. Overall, I thought the rappers were on a whole level above the Magnificent. You can tell Jeff really wanted to make TROTM perfect. He really had complete control over everything and it shows. I think this quote from JJ describes the whole album: "I wanted to recreate my mom's basement. I wanted to recreate when there was no stress hassle, you didn't think about the music, you didn't think who was gonna play it, and you didn't think who was gonna like it. You just did music from your heart. However it comes, it comes." Jazzy Jeff (on the way he remade his studio) I feel that quote describes TROTM because every song he made, he did from the heart. I can feel it in the music that he really just did everything the way he wanted to make music.
  12. One of the greatest hip hop groups of all time....go school yourself... KRS One and Marley Marl - Hip Hop Lives For real bro, A tribe called quest is definitely on of the best groups ever. Pure hip hop.
  13. http://www.xxlmag.com/online/?p=9914 It seems like a lifetime ago that DJ Jazzy Jeff & the Fresh Prince warned us that Girls Aint Nothing but Trouble. Some 20 years later, the Prince has been crowned Hollywood royalty, while Jeff continues to solidify his icon status as a versatile producer. The Philadelphia jock made his solo debut in 2002 with The Magnificent, whose languorous beats were sometimes too smoothed-out for their own good. But on his second LP, The Return of the Magnificent, Jeff reaffirms his affinity for subtle arrangements, sampled break beats and deft scratches. This time out, Jeff enlists a group of better-known friends and ramps up the production. On Jeff N Fess, Jazzy resuscitates Gang Starr Manifest beat with layers of congas, while Rhymefest crams in witty wordplay (Even though my neck aint icy/The jewels in my head is pricey/The Jews at my label, they like me). He also updates the classic Substitution break to create Supa Jean, a lesson in irresistible feminine swagger by Jean Grae. Jeff proves equally adept at constructing moody hip-hop grooves. Take The Garden, which features a solemn Big Daddy Kane reflecting on raps fallen heroes, from Jam Master Jay to Big Pun. At times, though, the nostalgia feels overwrought with unnecessary remakes like “Go See the Doctor 2K7, with Twone Gabz, and Brand New Funk 2K7, featuring Peedi Peedi. There are also collaborations that look good on paper but dont live up to their potential for instance, Method Man’s undistinguished rhymes on the scratch-heavy Hold It Down and Raheem Devaughn awkwardly phrased chorus on My Soul Aint for Sale. Thankfully, those are just minor distractions on an otherwise solid effort. With artists like J-Live (Practice) and De La Soul Posdnuos (Let Me Hear U Clap) stepping up and delivering standout performances, The Return cements Jazzy Jeff as more than just Will Smith’s bespectacled sidekick's a prince among beatsmiths. 14. I was gonna download it, but the downloading already exceeded.
  15. :wickedwisdom: Common is one of my favorite rappers. Its awesome to see him coming out with a new album this summer.
  16. Good luck and have fun dude.
  17. Finally found the able today at Circut City. I'm definitely glad I found the last TROTM that they had. My Review Hip Hop: I like the intro skit, its definitely very original. But like others have said, I would have liked to seperate the actually track from the skit. The song itself is amazing. I really like this beat, Twone really fits over it. Scratches are fresh as usual, using the samples "Hip Hop" from Mos Def's Hip Hop among many other classic hip hop tracks and Common saying "Hip Hop." The rhymes are dope, and on point. Really great way to start off a classic album. 10/10 Let Me Hear You Clap: This track is pretty nice. The beat sounds good. Gotta love the "Jeff's the DJ, I'm still the rapper" reference. The flow of De La Soul's is good. The rhymes are pretty laid back and has some cool lyrics. The vocal sample "Now Everybody Clap," sounds like some simon says/karoke thing though. Good track but not great. 7.5/10 Run That Back: I gotta say this track has a little ol school feel to it. Nice and smooth, reminiscing of the golden age of hip hop. I gotta say its gem that has a great feel to it. I really like the chorus, and both verses are sick. Rhymes are flowing on this. At first glance, this song doesn't seem all that great, but if you actually give it a good listen, it sounds dope. 9/10 The Definiton: Wow, another great track, no wonder why this album is what hip hop is missing. Kel definitely shows all his skills on this track, rhyming to a nice piano beat with more dope scratches. Definitely on a postive vibe, Kel definitely brings the real rhymes to the table for dinner. He even does a little singing at one point. As most JJFP fans already now, Kel has a lotta potential. Hopefully he gets his name out there. 9/10 Touch Me Wit Ur Handz: Not really my type of song, due to the fact I don't listen to r&b. The production is good for being an r&b song. This song is very intimate, and chill. I probably won't be listening to this track very much any time soon, I'm just not feeling it. But if you like r&b, you will probably like this. 6.5/10 Jeff N Fess: As any Gang Starr fan will recognize that this tight beat is from Manifest, Fess does well over it even though I personally like Manifest better. Good cuts and rhymes show on this jam. Not much to say about this because almost everyone has heard it. 8/10 Practice: Now this song is AMAZING! Definitely one of my favorite tracks on the album, everything about it is perfect. I love the originality and concept of using Iverson's vocals for the chorus (very hilarious). I love the beat, very pete rockesque. To top everything off, J Live laces this song great lyrics. J Live is such a dope MC. I definitely need to buy more of stuff. Pure hip hop, enough said. 10/10 Supa Jean: Like Touch Me Wit Ur Hands, this track really doesn't do it for me. Jean's rhymes aren't bad, but I'm just not into hearing the females spit (never really got into MC Lyte). The beat is decent, but not as good as most of Jeff's other stuff. 6/10 The Garden: The Garden is another hidden gem. The beat flows well and has the signature JJ style to it. Like Run That Back, the Garden brings back good memories. I love the shout outs to JMJ, Biggie, 2pac, and Big L. More postive rhymes from the Big Daddy, showing that he can still flow well. Its cool to hear from Kane, cause he has made an album since Veteranz Day in 98. "Never let the game make you." Awesome stuff. 9/10 She Was So Flyy: Nice love song, the beat is tight. Got an r&b feel to it, but it works well. I am kind of getting sick of hearing the word Fly though (no thanks to the mainstream), but this song is way better then anything else on the raido. Nice lyrics, good feel. 8/10 Hold It Down: Lets just say that this track will be on repeat on my ipod for a long time. The beat along with the cuts are perfect. This song bumps very well and deserves to spun by every dj out there. Some funny lyrics by Method Man are awesome. Truthfully, I didn't think Method Man would kill the MIC like he did on this, but I was wrong. Another personal favorite. 10/10 All I Know: Classic, timeless, and dope are all words that come to mind when I hear All I Know. Being a huge Pete Rock & CL fan, this song is the best track on TROTM in my opinion. Everything about this song fits perfectly. CL rhymes like he is in the prime of his career. Hip hop from the soul no doubt. All I know is that this is one of my favorite songs ever. 10/10 Go See the Doctor 2k7: Silly concept to this song. I need to listen to it more though before I rate it and analyze it. My Soul Ain't for Sale: I know everyone like this song, but it I don't think its the best on the album. I personally think its pretty good. The beat is silky smooth, and the rhymes/singing flows with it. 7.5/10 Come On: Deffinitely a very reconisable sample on this tune. Decent track, not up to par with the others though. 7/10 Brand New Funk 2k7: Remake of a classic that wasn't as good as the actual classic but turned out alright. Nuff said. 7.5/10 Overall: 9.5/10 the TROTM is what all JJFP fans have been waiting for and Jeff never disappointed. There are some songs that aren't my flavor but there are too many stand out tracks that make up for them. Great album with clever skits. I know that I will be bumping this cd all summer and will always have it on a constant listen.
  18. Can't say I'm impressed. I didn't really like this track. Biz is a funny dude, but this track didn't sound right.
  19. Dang Jim, this is awesome. Thanks dude!!! I really appreciate it. (I will download it later).
  20. http://www.myspace.com/dj Check it, 2nd track down. Jeff scratches some vocals of himself because I guess he was an the official myspace dj for a week or something.
  21. I was a little pissed yesterday. I went to three different stores looking for the album, and all of them didn't have them. I went to Best Buy, Borders, and Circut City. I did pick up Common's first 2 ablums though (Can I Barrow a Dollar?, and Ressurection).
  22. I wish that I could go. Looks awesome.
  23. Holy crap dude. Thats crazy... Congratulations Tim, you have done tons of things for JJFP. You deserve it man :switch:
  24. I can hardly understand what he is saying and he looks like he's drunk. Wow.
  25. I don't know about everyone else, but I thought it was a great movie. Definitely a must-see.
