obviously because willow's the daughter of the fresh prince and the lovely jada she's getting more attention, which is a good and bad thing for many reasons, at 9 years old she still has a lot of growing to do and i don't mind her making songs for fun, when i was 9 years old was when i would sing karaoke with my friends and when i look at back at my early raps at 15 years old i laugh, i'm still trying to figure out things at 25 years old and since I'm not related to nobody famous i probably won't ever go platinum either and i'll have to work regular jobs for most of my life, that's just a reflection of society, it's just like obama's kids will have a better chance of being future presidents than most of us, even the ones who're more qualified, it's just the breaks.... personally i didn't even know that this many people were still posting on this board until i went through this thread, when i make a post about a music legend like keith sweat putting out new music or even kel spencer putting out some real hip hop stuff it don't get much attention, there's still good artists out there but people pay too much attention to gimmicks and i really tried hard to hold back from saying this 'cause i've been on the sidelines looking at this thread in between but this is nothing but a gimmick, i know a gimmick when i see one, i wish willow all the best for her future but being in the entertainment industry that chews and spits out careers might not be the best for her, I just pray that "Whip My Hair" won't be looked at as the "Macarena" of 2010 15 years from now, but i'll probably be still working 9-5 then so really who am i to talk right, some things in life just ain't the way they should be...

Patrick still got it! LOL

most of the old-school players have been better conditioned then a lot of the players these days, you have 20-25 year old players these days who don't know how to stay in shape, for instance most of the time with the knicks until like around '97-98 patrick ewing would play all 82 games in a season, these days andrew bynum only plays around 40 games a season and he's 2 years younger than i am, he's only 23 years old, at 44 years old in the '96-97 season robert parish played in 43 games where most of the time he missed was 'cause the bulls had a deep bench not 'cause he was injured, he'd played close to 82 games if he played on a team like the clippers that year, it must be that these young players eat too much at burger king, robert parish and john salley are vegans, these young guys ain't durable enough, it's just like the young rappers these days can't match ll cool j's energy at 42 years old, they probably take too much drugs while ll lives a clean life, it's all about taking care of your body, it's the old school mentality that all the greats have in common....
-
well patrick ewing jr.'s in the d-league, he's obviously not as talented as his dad, very few are, but he might turn out to be a decent backup player, maybe he and his dad should play one-on-one to see who could be an nba backup center at this point, just like if jordan's kids tryout for the bobcats one day, lol, just 'cause somebody younger doesn't mean they're better, i mean look at k-smith, he'll never be as talented as fresh prince on the mic, i heard walt frasier, the knicks legend from the '70s say that skills wise he thinks he could still shoot the ball better at 60 years old then a lot of players can but he can't run anymore, music is different than sports you can't break a hip ripping a rhyme that's why ll cool j will probably still rap at 70 years old like james brown still sung until he died, you could have the mentality to make a good song forever but you can't have the mentality to score 20 points and grab 10 rebounds in 40 minutes a game once your stamina lowers as you age....
-
i was thinking that the magic needed to do something since they've been an average team as of late and the bulls and knicks have improved with their young players, vince carter is washed up at this point, next year he'll probably be playing overseas like allen iverson and stephon marbury, playing in europe is like the new nba retirement home, i think my bulls need to look after another big man since noah went down for 8-10 weeks since they're now forced to play 38-year old kurt thomas, but then again maybe kurt could find a fountain of youth like dikembe mutombo did for the rockets when yao ming went down with his injuries over the past few years, but then again maybe they could get one of the great big men like mutombo or pj brown to come out of retirement, they could at least get a 10-day contract, i bet even 48 year old kevin willis could play better for 10 minutes a game then a lot of the backup centers these days, he did play overseas a couple years ago himself too so he's probablyu still in good shape... like hip hop most of my favorites of the nba were around the late-80s-mid 90s so they always got a special place in my heart, just like i feel if one of the bulls guards go down with an injury that scottie pippen should come in to play guard, even penny hardaway should come back, grant hill's still around so why not him too, allan houston could teach the knicks guards how to be better shooters, even patrick ewing could be a good backup for dwight howard, that might be the magic need to get over the hump....

dmx is another wasted talent, he's like the bobby brown of rap

things in music in general started to get more watered down when record labels started promoting all this garbage out there, but in recent years with the internet a lot of the garbage isn't selling as much as it used to, i guess it's gonna take time, eminem and kanye having success i guess a step towards the right direction but more work needs to be done in getting other good stuff the proper promotion, the way that record labels have treated the great rappers like LL Cool J, Lupe Fiasco, abd the Clipse is disgusting... Bottomline, if LL Cool J had the type of promotion that Lil' Wayne has had over the past few years then he'd sell at least twice as much as Lil' Wayne has sold 'cause the truth is that LL been there and done that, none of Lil' Wayne's albums sold as much as "Mr. Smith", none of Kanye's albums have sold as much as Will's "Big Willie Style" either, good stuff can sell, i believe if somebody made a groundbreaking album that it could sell twice as much as what eminem sold too if it had the type of promotion 'cause eminem did release a good album but let's be real it's not an all time classic, it's just like when outkast put out that creative double album and outsold 50 Cent/Ja Rule/Eminem/everything out in the early 2000s to become the greatest selling hip hop album, good music will sell if it's promoted, people think hip hop's dead 'cause they see the crap that the record labels promote and don't know that there's good music underneath the surface....
-
well there's more to hip hop than just eminem and kanye west, people should give other good rappers a chance too, i could go on and on about how many good albums/mixtapes are out there, you got a point about how it's better in that perspective that eminem and kanye are outselling nicki minaj and soulja boy but i want it to be like the golden era again when many good rappers go platinum and multiplatinum, the best time when I was listening to hip hop during middle school years to me and I could look on the charts between '96-98 and see LL Cool J/Fugees/Fresh Prince/DMX/Nas/Jay-Z/Foxy Brown/Outkast/ Rakim/even the Public Enemy "He Got Game" soundtrack and KRS' "I Got Next" went platinum, then there was all that great r&b from Keith Sweat/Joe /Brian Mcknight/Boyz II Men/Blackstreet/Dru Hill/Toni Braxton /Babyface/702/Montell Jordan/Mariah/Mya/Brandy/Monica/even En Vogue and New Edition had success... I want those days back again and I want MTV to play all the dope videos again, they turned into emptv.... i'm a big michael jackson fan but in reality not many people wanted to listen to him right before he died and now they all love him again, fans are fickle....

I ordered this CD online a couple days ago at CDUniverse.com along with the new R.Kelly and Nelly albums, they haven't arrived yet so that's why I haven't said anything yet... Btw, 50's recent stuff is not that bad anymore either, I think he's improved his game just like Eminem has but neither are my favorites but among the rappers that ain't my favorites I rather listen to them than Lil' Wayne and Soulja Boy....
-
i'm with lambert, it's dilussional to say that eminem's the only good rapper in hip hop right now just cause he's the only one to go multiplatinum, that's the mentality of what's wrong these days, people focus on record sales more than good music, for instance i don't really give a damn that ll's "Exit 13" didn't sell much, i still think that he's a better rapper these days than eminem will ever be but with the state of the industry they'll probably put eminem in the hall of fame before ll, the truth is that i don't like eminem any better just 'cause his album sold 3X platinum, there's a bunch of albums that didn't even go gold over the past few years that're better, eminem will never be one of my favorites just 'cause he's the highest selling rapper ever
-
I don't consider Ja one of my favorites but I always respected that he stays in his lane with the music he makes, he don't try to be somebody he's not unlike a lot of the fake rappers out there, and he comes off more mature in his interviews as well
-
I don't know if anybody pays attention to this thread anymore but I want to share a song when I need to feel uplifted, R. Kelly's whole "U Saved Me" CD is brilliant but "When I Think About You" is a personal favorite:
-
Musically and lyrically nothing Dr. Dre has done since 2000 has shown me that he could do it on the level as he did it with "The Chronic" album, that song sounds a lot like something 50 Cent would do, he knows that most people who bought "The Chronic" album ain't checking for him anymore so he's going after the teenybopper fanbase....
-
a lot of the songs on these mixtapes should be getting airplay but like i said it's the state of the game, it's just like kel should be putting out platinum albums instead of only mixtapes

bigted replied to bigted's topic in Caught in the Middle
vh1 did a great job with hip hop honors when it started but the past couple years been garbage, at this rate they'll honor lil' wayne before jjfp -
Will is the greatest entertainer in the world though isn't he? 30 million albums sold and $20 million per film speak for themselves, real recognises real, Joe Budden's one of the real mcs that came out in the last 10 years....
-
I was posting that B.O.B. mixtape on the what are you listening to thread, there's some great mixtapes out there, I like most mixtapes better than albums, for instance those 2 Game mixtapes released this year sound like he coulda put out as official joints, it's the state of the game...

LL Cool J, Beastie Boys Nominated For Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame
bigted replied to bigted's topic in Caught in the Middle
This is complete BS, to say LL and Beastie Boys ain't first ballot hall of famers is like saying Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen ain't: Rap veteran LL Cool J and the Beastie Boys have been snubbed from being officially inducted into the annual Rock & Roll Hall of Fame ceremony in New York City next year. Instead of the former Def Jam artists, today's announced inductees include music legends like Neil Diamond. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is ready to admit a new class: Alice Cooper, Tom Waits, Neil Diamond, Darlene Love and Dr. John have all been inducted for 2011, the foundation announced Wednesday. With the exception of Waits, this was a first time nomination for all of the inductees. Artists aren't eligible for induction until 25 years have passed from the release of their first single or LP. The 26th annual ceremony to celebrate the inductees will go down on March 14, 2011 at the Waldorf Astoria in New York City, and will be broadcast on Fuse. (CNN) Following last September's announcement of Cool J as an inductee, Def Jam co-founder Russell Simmons vouched his support for the rap mogul. "Nothing makes me happier than seeing the greatest of all time, LL Cool J, getting nominated to become a member of the Rock N' Roll Hall Of Fame. I remember when Todd was just a young, runaway kid who kept sending his demo tape to Rick Rubin's dorm room. When we first listened to his tape, we knew we had to make Todd part of the Def Jam family. Over the years, Todd made hit after hit, and maybe only to Jay-Z, he has the most hits in hip-hop history...at least in my book. But more importantly than being a hit maker, Todd has always said yes when asked to give back to his community. I have asked him to do many, many things and he has NEVER said no. He is a true friend and someone who truly deserves to [be] immortalized in the Rock N' Roll Hall Of Fame. (Global Grind) After LL lost out on an induction last December, Slaughterhouse's Joell Ortiz was vocal on his issues with the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame panel. "how they not let LL cool J in the rock n roll hall of fame yet?," he asked Wednesday (December 16) night. "LL cool J is one of the first rappers that ever reached out to give me encouragement early on. He didnt even know me just a good dude. @menima27 not many at all. Alot of arrogant a**holes in this biz. I got stories yall." (Joell Ortiz's Twitter) Former XXL Magazine Editor In Chief Elliott Wilson also let his voice be heard on LL's missed spot. "F*ck the stats. I can't believe the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame chose to not induct him," Wilson wrote on his RapRadar website. "Last year, you put [Run-DMC] in and now you front on LL? The man who designed the blueprint of what a solo hip-hop star could be. This is beyond my comprehension. Disrespectful. So so so disrespectful. This is his first year of eligibility so I'm sure this will be rectified soon but still the moment's ruined. If I was Todd, I'd tell 'em to kiss my black a**. You only get a first time to do the right thing." (Rap Radar) -
Keith Sweat "Real Man", I don't know how this guy's music over the last 10 years has been so slept on, he's one of the realest artists:
-
I like the remix with Snoop and Game a lot better, but this ain't as groundbreaking as "Nothin' But A G Thang" or even "Still D.R.E."
-
Speaking of "Down Low", here it is:
-
I don't even think Will could go platinum anymore if he ever decided to release another album again but it's more about having credibility than selling records, the bottomline is people don't buy music that much these days anyway so really who gives a damn about sales, Ja Rule has had a more established career than a lot of today's one-hit youtube rappers could dream of having, the music industry's a revolving door, most of these artists are a flash in a pan, G-Unit and any of these sucka mcs are a joke, they might claim to have a lot of money but they ain't respected.... I really hope Ja's able to get on track with his life and come back from his prison sentence to continue making good music... Turntable also made a point about touring, a lot of the veteran mcs do touring and draw a bigger audience than artists who you hear on the radio, it's a new era now, the radio don't dictate what the real fans want....

i find it funny how those g-unit teenyboppers are quick to say that ja rule was destroyed by g-unit, "Blood In My Eye" showed that ja is a strong battle rapper, and on the most part over the last 5 years g-unit has been putting out weaker material that has failed to even go gold, ja's been doing a lot of touring the past 5 years and he did release some good stuff over the internet... Now I know I made this point before about how I wouldn't say that rappers like Ja Rule and Nelly are legends like Fresh Prince and MC Hammer but you could tell that they admire the legends since they learned how to craft together good songs like the greats, that's something you can't say about most of today's so-called mcs....

I like that song a lot Visqo, Ja and the R of R&B spit real talk right there, they've both had up and downs over the last decade and I always thought that song is a great way to get back at their critics... I heard R. Kelly put out another album today, I was reading online that Ronald Isley got a new album out too and I was thinking that if they did another "Down Low" together and turned it into a movie it'd be epic! Keith Sweat Feat. Left Eye "How Do You Like It"
