  1. I'm really surprised that VH1 didn't honor Will 'cause back in the day he'd the only hip hop artist they'd show music videos of
  2. Exclusive: Ice Cube Accepts Common's Movie Offer Friday, October 01, 2010 1:02 PM | 0 comments By Grouchy Greg Watkins and Houston Williams Meebo Share Button AHH IconGet Alerts AllHipHop Radio (AllHipHop News) West Coast Hip-Hop veteran Ice Cube has accepted former rival Common's offer to possibly work together in a movie in the near future. During an exclusive interview with AllHipHop.com, Ice Cube replied to Common's statement last week about wanting to work with his former foe. Common and Ice Cube were engaged in a vicious war of words in the mid-1990's. The situation almost turned violent until The Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan held a meeting at his Chicago mansion and urged the rising rap stars to peacefully resolve their differences. Since then, both artists have gone on to have immense success on the silver screen. Ice Cube, who recently produced the series Are We There Yet? for TNT, has starred in groundbreaking flicks like Boyz N Tha Hood, in addition to executive producing and starring in his own hit movies like Friday and Barbershop. "When we had our little issues in the 90s we sat down with Farrakhan and he told us why we needed to be brothers and squash it," Ice Cube told AllHipHop.com. "Since then, I aint never had an ill feeling towards Common. We've seen each other on several occasions and it's all love, like it never happened. I'd be down to do a movie anytime. Anytime." Common, who has starred in movies like Terminator Salvation, Smokin' Aces, American Gangster and Just Wright, recently wrapped up filming on Hell on Wheels, a time-piece about the Transcontinental Railroad set in the 1860's. During an interview with AllHipHop.com last week, Common revealed that he would like to work with Ice Cube on a movie, should the chance ever arise. "Point blank, when Cube and I had beef, I was a fan of his first and foremost, I grew up like loving Cube," Common told AllHipHop.com. "I still respected him as an artist, but I had to come at him. It’s like a boxer; if somebody challenge you in the ring, you got to go at him. But we all good now, and maybe we can produce a movie together or something." Ice Cube was very optimistic about working with Common in the future and noted that it only made sense, considering the amount of success both men have experienced in Hollywood. "He's in Hollywood and I'm in Hollywood. We are both leading men and we can do this," Ice Cube told AllHipHop.com. Ice Cube recently released his 9th album I Am The West on his independent label, Lench Mob Records.
  3. Dipset is better rappers than some of the rappers Dre has chosen to collab with over the years
  4. I found this article saying that Nick Cannon challenges Eminem and Jay-Z to a tag-team wrestling match with him and MC Hammer, it's obvious that this journalist is brainwashed by the propaganda with the way he's riding balls of the popular rappers, he don't realise that MC Hammer's in much better shape than his age might indicate and that Jigga's out of shape like a 60 year old, Hammer's from the streets too just 'cause he chose to be a positive rapper don't mean he's soft, he got homies from street gangs in Oakland so if it really goes down he'd go down on top but he ain't trying to be violent, btw Nick Cannon won over some cool points for me when he married Mariah, that's the best move of his career, lol -Obviously, Eminem didn't respond to Nick Cannon's request for a boxing match (which would have been a massacre, as was the consensus before), so the hubby of Mariah “Dead Horse” Carey is throwing out challenges again via Twitter--this time to MC Hammer and Jay Z. Tweet Tweet: "TAGTEAM WRESTLING MATCH!! Me and @MCHAMMER against @Eminem and Jay Z! LOL!" Let's look closely, so as to hopefully quiet Cannon's rambling: Exhibit A: Mr. “Can't Touch This” is 48-years-old. I doubt he is capable of throwing a worthwhile haymaker, let alone dodging blows from Slim. And of course, he could never count on his partner to tag in, because everyone knows that Cannon would mostly spend his time behind the ropes jabbering “Wild 'n Out” caliber insults and stretching stupid grins to scrape some sort of sympathy from whatever throng might actually care to show up for the massacre. Exhibit B: Now, HOVA is a young 40-years-old, and we all know that the effects of growing up in the Marcy Projects doesn't leave the soul. Was I not clear in my post yesterday about Diddy and Jay Z? Jigga Man SHOT his younger brother when he was only twelve years old. Crack-cocaine dealer. And as for Slim, well, we all saw 8 Mile (as I mentioned before). Sure, it's a movie, but Eminem can still F*ck up “The Free World”. MC Hammer got pissy after HOVA tossed a diss in his collab with Kanye on the track “So Appalled”: "Hammer went broke so you know I'm more focused / I lost 30 mil' so I spent another 30 / 'Cause unlike Hammer 30 million can't hurt me." I don't see anything untrue there—some people simply can't handle reality (and some people suffer for delusions, in the case of Cannon). Don't get disgruntled over the truth. And, much to our chagrin, Cannon tweeted once more: "Hey @MCHAMMER you know you my dude ... but I don't think Eminem or Jay Z are even paying attention to us!!! LOL. But I don't have nothing to lose!!! If I get beat up no one would be surprised ... It will just be more material for my stand up!" I'm all for it. Madison Square Garden, Spike TV live stream, steel cage, cheap seats and charity tickets for the homeless and deviant looking for a few hours of refuge and back alleyway mugging-esque entertainment. Why not toss in G-Unit and and everyone that hates them into the mix, fans included, get a royal rumble out of this thing. Idea: let's start a petition—it seems to be a popular trend, and I'm sure HOVA could conjure some way for all of us to profit from it. We're talking Hannibal vs. Rome (except for the later years where it just got drawn out, but that doesn't count), Johnny Depp vs. Ben Affleck's movie career and worth to humanity, Achilles and the infinite number of drones slaughtered in the storming of Troy's beach. Let it happen—it's fate—and a little violence is always a positive thing for hip-hop.
  5. Dipset's leader Jim Jones has revealed that epic producer Dr. Dre is involved in honing new music for the four-member crew. Via Twitter Jones also released an image showing himself, Juelz Santana, Dre and Cam'ron all in the studio together. "Just finished our 1rst session wit Dr.Dre incredible #dipsetb*tch@Mr_Camron @thejuelzsantana http://plixi.com/p/48091679," Jones tweeted Friday (October 1st) (Jim Jones' Twitter) Cam'ron also re-tweeted model Blaccdiamond's message which revealed Dipset being in the studio with Dre. "Jimjones, Camron & Juelz all under one Roof lastnight! Niceee O yeah plus Dr.Dre," Blacc tweeted yesterday. (Blaccdiamond's Twitter) Last month, Juelz Santana spoke with radio host Funkmaster Flex about a pending Dipset record deal. "Yeah, definitely, we been in the mix doing a couple songs back and forth and we've been in the studio a couple times," Juelz told radio personality Funkmaster Flex about Dipset reuniting for new music. "We just getting it together. We're waiting for the deal to go through which should be any day now. We're planned toward moving forward and doing it how we do it and giving the people what they have been waiting for." (Hot 97) Dipset are set to take the stage for a reunion concert this November. With each passing day, the Dipset reunion seems to slowly become more of a reality. With interviews and songs already released, the next step in the progression is the Harlem squad performing together for the first time in years. The fantasy will become a reality on November 26, when Cam, Jimmy and Juelz will hit the stage at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City. The presale for the Dipset Reunion Concert, presented by Hot 97, begins today (September 22) at noon and comes to a close on Friday at 10 a.m. EST. Tickets for the general public become available on Saturday at 10 a.m. (XXL Mag)
  6. If songs like "From Da South" and "Don't Say Nothing"(nice to see Kool Moe Dee acknowledge that song in his book) got airplay like LL's "Mama Said Knock You Out" and 2Pac's "Hit 'Em Up" then more people would realize you can't mess wit the Fresh Prince
  7. I'm listening to Busta Rhymes' "Back On My B.S." album right now, I like to go against the grain and listen to stuff that people sleep on, Nastradamus is like Willenium in a sense that the worst songs were the singles so people don't realize the greatness of those albums, my dream is to go platinum one day and mention all the stuff in an interview that people have slept on then maybe peeps would recognise the real stuff
  8. If you read my statement you'd see that I said that I don't think that Lloyd Banks is wack, in fact he's a good rapper but there's a thin line between being good and being a legend, saying Lloyd Banks is on the same level as those like LL Cool J and Fresh Prince is like saying Dwight Howard is on the same level as Bill Russell and Wilt Chamberlain, Penny Hardaway on the same level as Michael Jordan and Magic Johnson, etc, basketball's coming again I can't wait, lol, hip hop is like the NBA, there's a long history of legends, just because a player or a rapper ain't in the top 50 or top 100 doesn't mean they ain't good, there's million of them in all these years, just the fact that we heard of them means something, whoever's the 12th man on the Knicks and the worst rapper on the radio are better than the millions of armchair quarterbacks who don't make it and player hate, now that's what's opinion.... If G-Unit squash all their silly beefs and start making better music than yes one day they could be legends but not yet... Now they're the ones who've been acting ludacris since they always would make fun of other rappers 'cause they outsold them when they first came out, pride kills baby since the karma has come back to them when it's a fact that I said that the public don't respect them that much since their record sales went way down the past few years, you wanna debate me come with FACTS man: 50 Cent went from selling 10 million his first album(can't player hate that at all) to just selling 500,000 his last album, Lloyd Banks sold about 2 million on his first album and only sold 200,000 on his last album, the first G-Unit album sold 3 million and the last one about 500,000, the public has spoken, not just me, their careers are on thin ice, I hope they step up and make better music 'cause they were dope back in the days, I usually don't diss rappers for having lower sales 'cause even my favorite rappers don't sell much anymore but when you ain't humble then you deserve to be dissed... 50's line is coming back to him "Damn homie you was the man homie, What the f happened to you?", well it's like what the bible says pride kills, hopefully Lloyd Banks and Nas squashing beef is the start of something positive for hip hop 'cause I'm tired of the game being on life support like this, we need better music for everybody in general, I'm done with this topic btw so peace to all the rappers...
  9. Well if LL Cool J and Beastie Boys don't make it then JJFP won't, I don't think there's gonna be that many hip hop artists in the Rock & Roll hall of fame, Public Enemy will probably get in when their 25 year anniversary comes since their music is more rock driven
  10. Grammy-nominated rapper Nas will reportedly link with hip-hop veteran Pete Rock for his upcoming Lost Tapes 2 album. Writing via Twitter, Rock broke the news to his followers. "LOOK OUT FOR NEW NAS AND PETE ROCK COMING ON LOST TAPES 2!!," he tweeted this week. "'FINALLY' AFTER 18 SUM ODD YEARS ITS NAS AND PETE ROCK AGAIN!! LETS GO!!" (Pete Rock's Twitter) Last week, Nas said his new compilation will drop December 14th. "I'm unloading records I want the streets to hear," the Queens rapper said in an e-mail. "Cleaning out my hard drives. Gonna do this [Lost Tapes 2], then start fresh. I'm dropping my solo LP before the summer of 2011. I love the energy the world has been giving me over the last two years. But now it's time to focus on owning the streets again." (MTV) Earlier this month, Nas tweeted about the compilation being in the works. "It's coming... LOST TAPES VOLUME TWO!!!," he wrote Wednesday (September 15). (Nas' Twitter) The original compilation disc dropped on September 24, 2002. Several of the tracks touch on many personal issues as I Am... was supposed to be an autobiography. Examples include "Poppa Was a Playa" a song which was ghost-produced by a young Kanye West for then-mentor Deric Angelettie. It's a record where Nas recounts childhood memories of his father Olu Dara's self-indulgent lifestyle. Another personal track is "Fetus" where Nas recounts his experience while inside his mother's womb before birth. Other notable songs include the social commentaries "Purple", "Black Zombie" and "Drunk By Myself"---a song that ventures into the tragic mind of an alcoholic. The Lost Tapes, along with Stillmatic, and to a lesser extent, God's Son, revived the underground credibility that Nas seemed to have lost over the years while breaking into the mainstream. Gaining notable critical acclaim upon its release, the album is said to have some of his most artistically developed work ever. (Wikipedia)
  11. LL Cool J loves his family and he recently did a unique interview for REDBOOK magazine with his biggest little fan. Find out more plus read the actual interview when you go inside... LL Cool J's ten year old daughter Nina claims to be the rapper/actor's biggest fan. She interviewed her father about his show 'NCIS', their favorites movies, and asked about her reward for getting all A's on her report cards: Nina: Daddy, I love Miley Cyrus. What's your favorite song of hers? LL: "Party in the USA." It's a real fun song. I just wish my name were in it. Nina: I love to watch you on TV. Do you ever get scared to do that action stuff on NCIS? LL: I actually enjoy it — you just can't be Mr. Macho. I do about 90 percent of my own stunts, and the things I can't do for insurance reasons, like swinging out of a flying helicopter, I wouldn't want to do anyway. Nina: So what's your favorite movie? LL: Star Wars. Nina: My favorite movie right now is Dinner for Schmucks. LL: I can't believe it. I can't believe my daughter is saying schmucks. Nina: If I get all A's on my report card this year, do I get a present? LL: I expect you to get all A's. Why would I get you a present? Nina: Daaaad, that's my question — you're supposed to answer it! I'd like an iPad, a new phone, or a puppy. So what would it be? LL: I think it's obvious we grew up in different neighborhoods. I would take you out for ice cream. Cute. LL Cool J has two other kids as well, Najee who is 21, and Italia who is 20. Since Willow Smith is beginning her singing career at 9, it may be time for his reporter/daughter Nina to start her future career also....
  12. If I listened to what all my friends said about music I'd be missing out on some great stuff, "Nastradamous" has some very good songs on it, check for songs like "New World", "God Loves Us", "Project Windows", and "Life We Chose" on youtube and if you like them you could always get a used copy of the CD for under $1 on amazon, personally though when that album dropped there in late '99 there wasn't really that many people hating on it until Jay-Z dissed Nas
  13. Well where was Lloyd Banks mentioned when we named over 100 rappers for who's the best rapper of all time tournament we had here? That's not to say that he's wack but clearly he ain't one of the greatest
  14. Months after the passing of rap pioneer Guru, an ex-member of his Jazzmatazz band has come forward to speak out against the legend's producer, Solar, and accuse him of physical abuse. Based on an archived interview, trumpet player Brownman recalled a past altercation involving Solar and Guru. "To be honest, I didn't feel any fear about Solar until I actually saw him punch Guru in the face. Solar didn't know I had seen this go down. It happened in a back alley behind a club after a gig in Europe. I was heading back to the hotel post-gig, cutting through the backalley of the club as a shortcut. After a gig Guru and Solar often stayed behind, and the rest of the group would head back to the hotel. So I'm walking down the alley heading to the hotel, and suddenly the back door of the club flies open and Guru comes stumbling out like he had been shoved, Solar right on his heels yelling at him like a little boy. By now, this was a fairly common occurrence for me to see, but what happened next left me paralyzed. Guru seemed to be quietly arguing back. Clearly he felt that whatever had happened didn't merit such a response from Solar, and it seemed like he was trying to explain himself." (F*ck Solar) Brownman elaborated and said Guru denied being abused by Solar. "Solar swung on him... hit him in the mouth. And then again in the head. I was frozen. Far enough away that they couldn't see me, but frozen in my tracks. I took a step forward, but I didn't know what to do. And then Guru seemed to sort of shrug it off. Until that last year of his life, he was a tough, well-built guy, but I did think it was weird he didn't fight back. And I'm pretty much a peace-loving pacifist... not a fighter... and none of this was my business. I was hired as the Jazzmatazz trumpet player, not as the Jazzmatazz judge and jury - so I swallowed hard and left, disturbed by what I'd seen. The next day, in a moment when Guru and I were alone, I quietly asked him, "hey G... what happened to your mouth man?"... just to see what he'd say. He looked me right in the eye and said "aw, I dropped some weights in the gym. I gotta be more careful, right son?"... and he smiled and gently poked me in the ribs saying "skinny bookworm like you don't know nuffin 'bout the gym, right?" (I was always reading while on tour, and read about 3 books a week on average). He then winked at me and walked away... and if I hadn't seen what I'd seen, that charming response would have made perfect sense. But instead I felt sick. Sick that this man - one of my heros - had been abused... and now felt the need to lie to me about it... to cover-up the incident and protect his attacker. It was awful." (F*ck Solar) Earlier this year, Brownman spoke on Solar verbally attacking Guru. "It was like an abused wife relationship and he made all the same excuses: 'Why does he talk to you like that? It's my fault, Brown, he helps me get in shape.' He rationalized it." The trumpeter recalled times when Solar would "yell at Guru like a little boy" and physically strike Guru. (Birthplace Mag) Following Guru's passing last April from medical complications, Solar denied claims of being romantically linked to the late emcee. "That's untrue, completely unfounded," he said. "Guru is a familyman, I'm a family man. I don't want to say anything against anybody living a certain type of lifestyle -- everybody is free to live their life how they choose to live it -- but that's not my lifestyle or Guru's lifestyle. We're straight men. He dealt with women and family. I dealt with women and family. There's never been any blurring of the lines whatsoever." (MTV) Brownman reportedly linked with Guru in 2006 and was his Jazzmatazz trumpet player through January 2010 and left due to internal issues with Solar
  15. Nas Feat. Ronald Isley "Project Windows", that "Nastradamous" album gets hated on too much, it had some nice songs on it, it's better than anything Rick Ross or Lil' Wayne could ever make in their lifetime
  16. They both deserve to get in, Beastie Boys opened the doors for white rappers like Eminem and Vanilla Ice to have success, Ad Rock is probably one of the most underrated emcees ever, and we know LL's career is the longest and strongest ever as a hip hop GOAT...
  17. Too many people hate on Lloyd Banks 'cause he's in G-Unit, from time to time he could spit some hot rhymes but on the other hand he ain't close to being a top 5 hip hop legend, hell to n-izzo, he ain't even top 100, Nas and Kanye should collaborate with real rappers like Kel Spencer instead of commercial rappers like Lloyd Banks, in fact I think Kel should write some rhymes for Kanye since most of his rhymes been weak the past few years... But the main point of this article which is about the G-Unit beefing with Nas and other rappers they know they have to squash their beefs 'cause the public has grown tired of them doing it, they need to get back to making good music again, in the early 2000s G-Unit was dope, it's hard to believe that but you can't sleep on what they did back then but once they started acting like children their music and career went downhill and they lost respect from the streets....
  18. G-Unit's Lloyd Banks and rap veteran Nas will reportedly have their differences placed aside to exchange bars on an upcoming collaboration track. According to the "Punch Line King," Kanye West is aiming to bring them together on wax. Lloyd Banks came up to the XXL offices this afternoon as the latest guest on our weekly Wednesday UStream show, Spotlight, and during the engaging interview he spoke on the possibility of he and 50 Cent rival Nas appearing together on one of Kanye West's upcoming G.O.O.D. Friday tracks. Banks said that he was in the studio with our October cover star two nights ago, along with John Legend and Kid Cudi and worked on two cuts--one for The Hunger for More 2 and one for 'Ye's upcoming, still unnamed LP. "The record I had did for Kanye, he was saying he was putting Nas on it, so you may be seeing that in the future," The Punchline King told XXLMag.com. (XXL Mag) In addition to dissing Nas on "Piggy Bank," 50 Cent previously spoke on his issues with the fellow Queens, New York rapper. "You know what, me and Nas, we was cool, we used to be good," Fif said in a 2005 interview. "I didn't understand his actions. The first thing that started feeling a little off with him was the Jennifer Lopez sh*t. I had done a record on the Jennifer Lopez album right and this after I got shot this is the first thing I'm doing trying to come back out. Irv [Gotti] was running around calling everybody and saying don't do business with these guys you do business with him we are not f*cking with you. At the time they were selling records so people weigh there value by what you can do for them and they were leaning towards Irv and them and they actually took me off the record and put Nas on the record cause she was on Columbia and Nas is on Columbia." (Six Shot) Last year, G-Unit producer DJ Whoo Kid said Nas used 50 Cent as an excuse to avoid being interviewed. "I respect Nas and all the sh*t he's done," Kid explained. "But personally, what he did to me was p*ssy. It was a p*ssy thing. But I was telling [Rick Ross' baby's mother] Tia that, but the [online video footage] kept that. He refused to come on my show because of 50 Cent and he told my boy that. And my boy, I had my boy, I could understand if your A&R is playing around with me like 'I don't want to come to your show blah blah blah' but I had my boy personally go ask him and he personally said 'Nah I can't do it man, I just can't do it.' Well you know everybody on my show, I really wanted Nas on my show. I was with him even before the It Was Written and crap like, when he was beefing with Jay-Z I was there. I bought him the bean pie and all that stuff. If it wasn't for that beef with Jay-Z, he would not be who he is today. That was the personal anger that I had to put out there. But other than that, I'm not dissing Nas." (True Stories TV) Aside from the possible Nas and Banks mash-up, West recently complimented the G-Unit rapper. "Yo man Loyd Banks prolly the most underrated MC in the game... Man he deserve to be top 5 at least!," West tweeted Wednesday (September 8) night. (Kanye West's Twitter)
  19. I read online that his new album is gonna sell between 24-27K the first week which is not bad considering that he's independent but that's sad that legends like him can't get promoted properly on major labels so they won't have to go independent, the wack rappers should be in the minor leagues, with such a low buzz for real hip hop these days I wonder how long the real artists are gonna keep recording, it seems like hip hop's dying more everyday... Cube's right that hip hop has returned to being underground 'cause what the radio plays sure ain't hip hop, I feel like I'm the one of few people out there alive these days that knows what hip hop is, even the majority of my friends seem to be brainwashed by what's out there these days, lol, that's why forums like this is like therapy to vent on...
  20. I didn't say he's doing great but I'm just saying that he's still in the game after 24 years, it ain't like he just quit, the problems he has musically really has more to do with the way the music industry has thrown away veteran artists like himself and others from the golden era of hip hop,(other than Dr. Dre really 'cause he surrounded himself with wack pop rappers so the industry could still like him, look at how Def Jam basically gave up on LL Cool J and he's the GOAT) it ain't really his fault why his career's not further along than it is, he's doing his best to his ability to keep going here....Hammer has over a million people following him on Twitter so you're right that if he gets his music out there they'll check for it, I think when he was promoting his reality show he said that he's working on a new album, a lot of people talking about him again right at this moment too, Jigga actually did him a favor if you think about it, lol... More artists these days are releasing their music through the internet, Hammer does too, but damn these ipods, I'm with you AJ I like to buy CDs, all this digital stuff is ruining the game in a sense that you can't get a physical copy of music so frequently...
  21. MC Hammer "Sleeping On A Master Plan", when rappers ran their mouth about him they brought out a sleeping giant, "The Funky Headhunter" album is one of the most underrated albums in hip hop history
  22. So we stopped having interest in KS here? Lately I've been listening a lot to "The Definition" and wondering how the hell can people sleep on this lyrical flame spitter, and whenever I feel down about something I go read those "Weekly Breads" and they lift my spirit up, real recognizes real
  23. STATEMENT FROM WYCLEF JEAN GRAMMY AWARD-WINNING MUSICIAN WYCLEF JEAN OFFICIALLY WITHDRAWS FROM HAITI PRESIDENTIAL RUN AND APPEAL The Singer-Activist Will Continue to Work for the Haitian People, But Will Resume Focus on His Legendary Music Career NEW YORK—Sept. 21, 2010—Grammy-winning Haitian artist Wyclef Jean, dropped several weeks ago from the ballot for the upcoming November elections in his home country, now says he has officially withdrawn his candidacy. “After weeks of quiet but painstaking reflection with my wife and daughter, I have chosen to end my bid for the presidency of Haiti,” said Jean. “This was not an easy conclusion to reach; but it is one that was thoughtfully made, taking into account many, many competing factors and weighing the course that will best advance the healing of the country and help it find the quickest path to recovery.” When Haiti’s Provincial Electoral Council released its list on Aug. 20 of whom it deemed qualified to run in this year’s elections, 15 of the 34 who had filed the papers to enter the race for presidency had been dropped from the ballot. Jean, one of those disqualified, accepted the council’s decision, in efforts to respect the rule of law and in order to ensure that his supporters would remain peaceful and law-abiding in the aftermath of the announcement. Simultaneously, Jean and his representatives filed a legal appeal against the ruling of the council, due to perceived irregularities in the council’s operations. At the time, the singer and his advisers gave as their rationale the desire to ensure that the council was being held accountable and that its processes were made transparent. Not withstanding his interest in a sound, just and fair governance process, Jean is choosing instead to revert his attention and focus to his music. Jean’s new album “If I Were President, the Haitian Experience” is scheduled for release in February 2011, followed by the summer 2011 kickoff of his worldwide tour “The Haitian Experience.” “Some battles are best fought off the field, and that is where we take this now. Our ultimate goal in continuing the appeal was to further the people’s opportunity to freely participate in a free and fair democratic process,” said Jean. “In that regard, the appeal was meant to improve the electoral process for all, candidates and voters alike. It is one way that I hope to bring light to the functioning of a government that is often ranked as one of the most corrupt on the planet, resulting in a country that is by most measures the poorest in the Western world. It’s not about my candidacy—this appeal was meant to address the shortcomings of the process for every Haitian. Though my run for the presidency was cut short, in this way, I feel it was not in vain; it’s something we can use to improve conditions for my Haitian brothers and sisters.” Haiti’s presidential election was originally scheduled for earlier this year, but was delayed due to the devastating earthquake that struck the country in January. The quake was particularly destructive in the capital city of Port-au-Prince, where many government buildings, including the presidential palace, were left unusable; while many government workers are estimated to have died in the disaster and election materials lost.
