http://www.sohh.com/2010/04/common_wants_to_know_whats_going_on_w_ma.html Actor/Rapper Common has revealed interest in portraying the late music pioneer Marvin Gaye in a biopic. With rumors of a film being in the works for years, Common said he would be willing to take on the lead role. "I've been sniffing around, trying to figure out who might be interested, who might be already planning one," Common says. "Marvin was a monumental figure in music, important in our lives in so many ways. And troubled. He's a character with so much depth. I'd be all-in on that project." (Orlando Sentinel) Blockbuster movie star Will Smith recently passed on an opportunity to portray Gaye. Smith has turned down the lead role in moviemaker Cameron Crowe's new Marvin Gaye biopic. The actor spent months in negotiations to portray the legendary soul man, and now Crowe, who has been trying to get the project off the ground for four years, is without a leading man again. But the Almost Famous director isn't rushing to find his Gaye - he's determined to hire the right man for the role. (Star Pulse) Past plans were put out that a Gaye feature would be done by director Lauren Goodman. The final three years of Motown legend Marvin Gaye's life will be revisited in director Lauren Goodman's forthcoming biopic, "Sexual Healing." Production on the film, which will be shot in Hungary and Germany, is set to begin in three months, according to The Hollywood Reporter. (MTV) Outside of Hollywood, Common is currently putting together his new album, The Believer. "It's 'good' music," he said. "The themes are street music and elevation, things that I feel like I always embody when I rap. But here there's new situations, new solutions." As far as production goes, Common says he's working with No I.D. and Kanye West, both of which have produced a couple of his previous albums -- "Be" and "Finding Forever," "Resurrection" and "One Day It'll All Make Sense" respectively. "I'm striving to get it out in the fall," he said, adding that fans can expect a single by late summer or early fall. (Billboard)

DJ Premier swears no electro music on Kanye's album
bigted replied to bigted's topic in Caught in the Middle
When he came out I thought he had potential to be one of the great rappers but I think his ego in recent years got the best of him and his quality of music has gotten weaker, now if he shuts up and makes better music it's a possibility -

DJ Premier swears no electro music on Kanye's album
bigted replied to bigted's topic in Caught in the Middle
Yeah you compare Kanye to all the great rappers and he does come out average, in fact the best thing about his first couple albums were the guest appearances, and I think the only reason why he's had so much success is 'cause most mainstream rappers have been weak and he's been able to benefit off of that but I think with better rappers emerging as of late he's gonna have a harder time staying popular if he don't step his game up... -
This is nice to see Kanye realising that what he's been doing the past few years hasn't been that hot compared to what he did on his first couple albums: http://www.sohh.com/2010/04/dj_premier_swears_no_electro_music_on_ka.html Hip-Hop pioneer DJ Premier has promised that the upcoming Kanye West album, Good A** Job, will not feature any experimental or electro music. According to Premier, West has emphasized the importance of returning to his hip-hop roots. "I'm working with Kanye. He reached out to me like, 'Yo, you at the studio?,'" Premier said in an interview. "He came by at 8 p.m. and didn't leave until three in the morning. We were drinking Grey Goose and just bugging out. It was me, Kanye and Showbiz, from Showbiz & AG talking about the whole industry...He told me how he wanted this album to be really boom-bap, hard, hard beats. He said, 'No electro Preem, I swear no electro [Laughs].' Ye is still that crazy dude he's always been. He's really focused on making this album raw. So I gave him a banger and he said he wanted two more on top of that one. I'm giving him two more this week." (VIBE) Premier recently hinted at the project being more raw than past efforts. "Well, first of all, if you look at all of Kanye West's output, he actually did a lot to bring back sampling and make it cool again, even though he's more of a mainstream artist" Premier explained. "But his new album is strictly hard beats and rhyme. He's totally done with electro. You're gonna be surprised what you hear." (Amajanese) Fellow hip-hop pioneer Pete Rock recently confirmed being in the studio with Ye. "I mean, I'm working with him," Rock told radio host Peter Rosenberg. "That's all I can say is that I'm working with him. I went out [to Hawaii.] It's beautiful man, like, he just feels like a little brother to me. You know what I'm saying? Like, my little brother that's doing it. And we got along just fine. He's definitely hip-hop, his roots, I was testing him on joints...He takes it to another level which is dope. He had these musicians and this song, they played around my little raggedy beat and made it real [big]. I love the way he works -- he goes from one room, writing rhymes then goes to another beat and goes to another room and does something else -- I love what he's done, I always thought he was clever. I used to bug out over the ego thing but once you get to know him, it's like 'Oh, okay, he's a sweetheart.' [laughs] We got along just well." (Noisemakers) Rap veteran Q-Tip also revealed his involvement on West's album. "I just try to work with people who I admire or whom I think has got it," he revealed in an interview. "So right now I'm working on Nas' sh*t, about to work with Kanye on his sh*t. Just trying to keep up my momentum. I'm about to work with Talib [Kweli] on his project. I been trying to work with [Jay-Z] for a while so hopefully he'll realize the heat I got and come with it [laughs]." (Brooklyn Bodega) Good A** Job is speculated to drop June 2010

I thought Nelly's last album had some good songs on it, just like that "Body On Me" song you just mentioned, "Self Esteem" with Chuck D & "Hold Up" with LL & TI, he's a good cameo rapper: Right now I'm listening to Jazzy Jeff's MJ Tribute Mixtape "He's The King, I'm The DJ": http://www.livemixtapes.com/mixtapes/10771/michael_jackson_hes_the_king_im_the_dj.html

It's the return of the golden era with all these albums coming out

If Kanye brings back to the form of when he originally came out then it should be interesting, Drake's one of the most overrated newer rappers I don't see what's all the hype's about with him, and we already know what I think about Eminem, lol... TI also is comparing his new album to Pac's "All Eyez On Me" which I think is setting up for a downfall 'cause don't get me wrong he's aight for a radio rapper but he's nowhere near Pac's level...Hi-Tek and Talib Kweli are supposed to be working on a new album, they put out a hot mixtape earlier in the year...The one album I'm really looking forward to is Rhymefest's "El Che" which comes out on my mama's b-day May 18th...
