  5. Hip-hop pioneer `Slick Rick' pardoned by N.Y. gov ALBANY, N.Y. - New York Gov. David Paterson is granting a full and unconditional pardon to rapper Ricky "Slick Rick" Walters for the attempted murders of two men in 1991. The pardon is expected to halt efforts to deport Walters to the United Kingdom, the country he left as a child. The eyepatch-wearing star behind the '80s rap classic "La-Di-Da-Di" served more than five years in prison after the shooting of his cousin and another man. Both survived. The governor says Walters is now a rap artist and landlord in the Bronx who has not had any criminal problems since his release from prison in 1997. He also says Walters has volunteered to counsel youths against violence.
  6. It's a great song, has the potential to be a big hit, I posted there too under the name of NJRebel and I see some people there that say they hate it but there's some people that like it too, I think with time passing now between his last album and now there's a better chance of his album being good 'cause he took his time rather then if he just rushed something out like he originally planned
  7. Nas released a new song called "N.I.G.G.E.R." btw: http://allhiphop.com/stories/multimedia__m...0/19898359.aspx

  10. Chuck D. Launches BTNEastlink Company For Artists Published Tuesday, May 20, 2008 1:30 PM Email alerts| Email| Email this| Print this| RSS 2.0| Atom 1.0 By Tai Saint Louis Public Enemy co-founder Chuck D has announced the launch of a new company that aims to revolutionize the way the Hip-Hop community conducts business across the globe. The rapper's new business, The Bring The Noise Eastlink Media, Management, Music Group (BTNEastlink), will offer a wide range of business and digital media services for artists under one roof. The new firm represents a union of several interests supported by Chuck D and the Public Enemy family over the years, in an effort to meet the total needs of the company’s entertainment and technology clients. Under the leadership of Chuck D, entertainment lawyer and digital media consultant Dan Lugo and producer Gary G-Wiz, BTNEastlink houses the SlamJamz Records label and divisions to handle artist management, marketing, consulting, video game scoring and other services. “Basically, it’s like putting all my diversified people under one roof,” Chuck D. told AllHipHop.com. “A lot of door knocking internationally will take place. Urban has sensibilities that are definitely planetary. But the discussions have to be more intense and more elaborate.” BTNEastlink will offer its clients what Chuck D. defined as “what Live Nation has promised Jay-Z, to a much lesser degree,” adding that he is looking to work with veteran artists, as well as up comers, to further market them across the world. The company also seeks to push for Hip-Hop’s complete immersion into the digital age, something Chuck D and long-time partner Lugo have already done with SlamJamz Records. The Red Eye-distributed label already coordinates digital-only releases for two thirds of its current 45-artist roster. With the addition of the new dedicated film, licensing and merchandising branches of BTNEastlink, Chuck D hopes to not only create new opportunities for his clients, but to also revolutionize the business model under which Hip-Hop currently operates. “Business could stand, in Hip-Hop, to be a little more organized and less cut-throat,” says Chuck D. “I’ve seen some individual achievements over the years that basically did not look back or did not pave the road for other ways to follow. That doesn’t work worldwide. Domination does not help here. The NBA has 30-some odd teams, and the NFL has 30-some odd teams that all need each other to exist. In Hip-Hop, I’ve often seen that, if this was a Thanksgiving table, everybody got food all over their face, scrambling and running out the back door with the turkey.” For more information visit http://www.btneastlink.com.
  11. LL Cool J Readies First-Ever Mixtape May 20th, 2008 | Author: Slava KupersteinWith over 20 years in the Hip Hop game, LL Cool J has managed to remain successful without the aid of mixtapes - something that many artists use to build a buzz for their upcoming albums. According to MTV, that's all going to change, as LL is readying his first-ever mixtape, The Return of the G.O.A.T. Hosted by DJ Kay Slay, the mixtape will feature guests such as Busta Rhymes. "Anybody that's featured on the mixtape has to be on a classic LL beat," Kay Slay said. "LL's got an album coming out," he continued. "I think he's just aware that he has to have that street presence and make people aware he still is the G.O.A.T. and he can still spit. A lot of people are under the misconception that LL is making those grown-and-sexy records, that he ain't with the street vibe anymore. I think he wanted to step back and let people know he's still the G.O.A.T." The Return of the G.O.A.T. is due in the upcoming weeks.
  12. Wow that's a lot of hot stuff, thanks for that Tim!
  13. Wyclef Launching Partnership With World Food Programme Published Monday, May 19, 2008 6:00 PM By Nolan Strong Haitian Hip-Hop star Wyclef Jean has announced the launch of Together for Haiti (Kombit Pou Ayiti), a new partnership that will provide food and jobs in response to the current food crisis, AllHipHop.com has learned. The Grammy Award winning rapper’s Together for Haiti is a collaborative effort between Jean’s Yéle Haiti, the World Food Programme (WFP) and the Pan American Development Foundation (PADF). Together for Haiti will also work with a number of non-governmental organizations and community groups to address the food crisis in Haiti, which is the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere. Jean and a number of celebrities will be on hand during a press conference in New York tomorrow morning (May 20), where the rapper will officially announce the launch of Together For Haiti. According to figures from the United Nations, the cost of food has climbed 53% in April, compared to the same time last year, due to the rising cost of fuel, weather issues and increased demands from the middle classes in India and China. Also, a number of countries have been the exports of rice, resulting in riots in impoverished countries like Somalia, Burkina Faso, Cameroon and Haiti, where five people where killed during recent riots. The price of rice is a major issue for Haiti, which imports almost 80% of its rice. The country cannot grow enough food to feed the population, due to widespread deforestation, which has claimed over 97% of the country’s rainforest, according to reports. Together for Haiti will work with various local agricultural organizations in an attempt to repair damaged soil and re-grow new vegetation.
