  1. http://blogs.sohh.com/ya_heard/archives/20...d_man_gets.html My sources are telling me that Method Man has been dropped from Def Jam and the official word will be out soon. Reason? You guessed it. Low album sales. Now I don't know if the lack of promotion was Meth's fault or the label's, but I do know somebody slept on their promotion job for this new album of his. I wouldn't be surprised if the label purposely didn't promote the album so they can ax him with good reason. Y'all know Meth has been running his mouth about the folks over at Def Jam and they may have just gotten fed up with it. So if this info does ring true, who will Meth end up signing with? Not many labels are willing to put up with ****-talking artists, but having a beast like Meth on your label could prove to be a very valuable investment. And there's not many labels who dedicate the same kind of time and effort to true hip hop that they dedicate to hip hop with a pop edge. Decisions, decisions. Nas @ the Boost Mobile Concert this weekend at Radio City Music Hall Here we go again. Sources are reporting that Nas' album release date will no longer be Nov. 14th, as planned. The new release date is supposedly Dec. 19th. Are we really surprised? Since Jay's album release date is still Nov. 21st, I'm not. All you Nas fans will just have to wait another month or so. This may be for the best, though. I hear Nas doesn't even have a single ready to push or any other publicity deals in the works yet. Damn shame.
  2. LL could do a verse aimed at Jay-Z turning the biggest label in hip-hop history into a pop label, I don't think many would vote for Jay-Z if this poll was held today 'cause clearly he's one of the lost in hip-hop, those of us who said FP should go to Def Jam wouldn't say that now either, he promotes garbage rappers like Rick Ross and drops Method Man, I ain't even feelin' like checking for his coming out retirement album, it'll probably be some pop garbage anyway, Jay-Z' a sellout, he's using his power for his own benefit...
  3. Yeah I think it'd be better for hip-hop if they got together and recorded tracks instead of making beef songs, being from the older era of hip-hop they need to be setting example for the up and coming mcs
  4. It seems like mostly everyone that 50 wants to work with/sign is people that he has help him in his battles, that's why I'll be surprised if he don't try to get LL to get involved in his beef, in fact just seeing LL come out and saying that he's upset at Jay-Z as president of Def Jam is sorta out of character for him, usually LL won't come out and call out somebody like that, 50's been sorta been saying for years that he's trying to take Jigga's throne, he's probably using LL to help him get there, Game crushed 50 so 50's running for help again, 50 can't stand on his own...
  5. 6. I got a good offer on ebay last week for this album and I'm waiting for it to arrive soon in my mail and I'll drop the feedback when I get it, I think I made a thread about the album coming out last week but it got ignored mostly
  7. Yeah this could wake the sleeping giant, this would be an entertaining battle, Freddie Foxx is nasty on the mic, Rakim's gonna have to give his best effort in this one
  8. http://www.mtv.com/bands/m/mixtape_monday/...?headlines=true Someone is getting ready to do the absolutely unthinkable: call Rakim out on a record by name. It's not going to be anything like the subliminal sparring that was rumored to be going on between Rakim and Big Daddy Kane in the '80s. This person is going to dis the God, one of the greatest MCs ever. Who has enough courage to do so? None other than Mr. Fearless himself, Freddie Foxxx a.k.a. Bumpy Knuckles. The song is called "The King Is Down" and appears on his new LP, Amerikkkan Black Man. "I will eat Rakim's ass alive on any record, any stage," Bumpy Knuckles asserted recently. "When I finish with him, every bit of legendary status he had is gonna go out the window. I swear on everything I stand on, I will eat that n---a alive, bar by bar. I'll tell him to his muthaf---in' face." So now you're gasping for air, and wondering why Freddie — a legendary hip-hop figure in his own right, who's earned respect for street pedigree as well as rap skills — is going at Ra. Well according to Foxxx, it goes back to the '80s in Wyandanch, New York, where Foxxx's rap team Supreme Force used to be competitive with Ra's team the Love Brothers. This was pre-Eric B. and Rakim. "We got a history, you know. We got a real long history," Foxxx explained. "We from the same part of town. Ra has always had an attitude towards me that he was better than me — on the mic and more successful. How dare he think he can out-rhyme me. He has one style, that's all he's ever had." What really got Foxxx upset, he said, was a Q&A with Rakim he read on hip-hop Web site Halftime Online. Rakim was asked about a battle that supposedly took place back in the day between the Love Brothers and Supreme Force squad. "I never f---ing turned down a battle with that muthaf---er!" Rakim is quoted as saying. "Foxxx wasn't ferocious like that. Foxxx had two other cats that used to rhyme with him. They were a good group, but Foxxx wasn't ferocious like that baby pa." "I read the article and it set me off," Foxxx said. "He said I'm 'not ferocious.' How dare he? His ego kicked in. I said I'm gonna let the world who he really is. People are only calling him a legend because of what he did with Eric B. Everything after that was wack. Nobody will say it to his face." Foxxx said he's not sure when the dis record will be coming out, but his LP is slated for sometime in February. WWE champion John Cena and Talib Kweli rap on a record called "Give it to the A&R," while the Alchemist, Pete Rock, DJ Scratch and DJ Premier produced a myriad of the records. "I'm too old to be chasing publicity," Foxxx said when asked if he really has a legitimate gripe with Rakim or if he's just doing it for hype for his album. "I don't need the publicity. I ain't no hater. But when I see he's so quick to always shoot me in the foot, enough is enough. Why would I want to get recognition on Rakim? He's nothing to me. Y'all see him differently than I do. On the song, I never called his name. We used to call him 'Pop' back in the day. I don't call him 'Rakim' on the record, I call him 'Pop.' " Bumpy Knuckles also said he dares Rakim to come back at him on wax. "Turn your mic on, B," he said defiantly. "I want him to put me in my place." Rakim is on tour and could not be reached for comment.
  9. I had no idea that Redman's album finally coming out next week, it's been a long wait!! :mygod:
  10. Tyrese Offers Free Mixtape Online, Gets Assist From Stevie Wonder Friday - September 22, 2006 by Jolene "foxxylady" Petipas In preparation of his upcoming fourth album, Alter Ego, Tyrese has released his second mixtape titled Ghetto Royalty. As SOHH previously reported, Alter Ego, will be a double album featuring the /actor crooning on one disc and rapping under the moniker Black-Ty on the other. Ghetto Royalty, which is hosted by DJ S&S and can be downloaded for free in its eternity a at Tyrese's official website (www.headquarterentertainment.com ), features appearances from Memphis Bleek, Cassidy, Stevie Wonder, Bishop Lamont, Eric Sermon and Big Tigger. In June, Tyrese debuted his Black-Ty guise via a mixtape titled The Best of Both Hoodz Volume 1, which featured him rapping alongside Ice Cube, Kurupt and Guerilla Black. He also held a Black-Ty mixtape release party where he previewed his material. "All this love for Black-Ty got everyone curious, so here's a dose of what's to come on the Alter Ego album," said Tyrese referring to Ghetto Royalty via a statement. "I put my heart on the mic." Alter Ego is scheduled for release on December 5th via J Records.
  11. I notice that "Return Of The Magnificent" ain't mentioned, hopefully it comes out before 2008 :shakehead:
  12. @ D12 releasing an album called "Trick Or Treat" on Halloween, btw these release dates ain't really legit, probably only the more recent ones, the album's they talk about coming out 2 or 3 months from now could mean next year or the year after, that KRS "Lost Album" was supposed to come out last winter...
  13. Well it's been over a year and a half since the album came out so I think it's safe to say that there won't be any remixes, btw Rakim is supposed to be coming back with an album at the end of the year, it'd be nice if FP's gonna be on it as a guest feature

  15. I thought that Game was dissin' Ja Rule originally only 'cause he was with 50 at the time, he hasn't been dissing Ja ever since he got away from G-Unit so you could sorta figure that it was cool by now, btw Game ain't gonna diss Ras Kass either, the interesting thing is that it was rumored on allhiphop.com that Ras Kass might sign to G-Unit so maybe this is where the beef started from, if you read Game that interview on allhiphop.com he said he won't respond to Ras Kass dissin' him on any records, he basically just punched Ras Kass in the nightclub 'cause he was talking about Game's son, he basically sums it up in this quote: http://www.allhiphop.com/features/ "Even today, I'm on a different page. I'm headed to do my thing, promote my album, and I'm not even thinkin' about that cat. I'm not gonna respond to his mediocre diss records; I do the beef s**t all day. I done almost took down one of the biggest rap labels, rap moguls in 50 Cent and the G-Unit camp down by myself, single-handedly. You see what to Mobb Deep, Tony Yayo, what's 'bout to happen to Lloyd Banks – the only person 50 can save at this point is his self. And I'd sign him to Black Wall Street if we could sit down and come to some terms. After doin' all that – beefin' with Buddens and Bleek and all these other cats out here, man, Ras Kass? Come on, man. That's no fun for me at the end of the day. That's all it was – one punch, and it was heard around the world. It's crazy to me that I punched that dude in the face and he started cockin' bullets on camera. He tryin' to save face. If I was him, I'd go get a lawyer and sue me, 'cause that's the only way you gonna get somethin' out of it, man. If you watchin' man, just sue me. I got about 15 grand to give you and help you out with your situation, so the next time, somebody might actually wanna take his chain. " EDIT: I found the entire XXL Interview on rapbasement.com if anybody wants to check it, it's an interesting read: http://board.rapbasement.com/showthread.ph...858#post5698858
  16. Yeah the good thing is that nothing stays the same forever, it's gonna turn around in the near future, record sales in hip-hop are down recently and that's a good thing 'cause that means it could go back to the artistry, instead of doing certain things in thinking that more records will be sold
  17. What Will said in "Lost and Found" is simple people, hip-hop needs BALANCE, now this goes back to what I said earlier: I don't think Will has beef with gangsta rap, he got beef when gangsta rap is overexposed as the only image of rappers on a mainstream level, there's nothing wrong with somebody like NWA going platinum when there's also somebody like Run-Dmc going platinum, that's what made the golden era so great, there was all styles of rap getting recognised, there shouldn't be one style dominating more than another, at the same time if gangsta rap never came along rap wouldn't have much credibility if everyone was doing party songs... So on that note like y'all said Will's concerned over sales for the right reasons, he knows the power that an album being successful could have on an industry, if beef sells records more rappers beef, if sex sells more sex gets promoted, so if something positive could sell it could lead to more positive things to come, really the power that the consumer has is undenibly important, when they favor one style over the other than that's why everything on the radio sounds the same, every video looks the same, the truth is that FP might rap about some of the things that those rappers do but he does it in a fun and tasteful way that everyone could watch and not be offended, I think that's the reason why a lot of older audiences get turned off from hip-hop too 'cause it's too juvenile for them to watch, there's nothing wrong with club songs though, he shows you don't have to call a woman a bitch or talk about taking does of extasy in them to be hot songs, not every music video has to look like soft porn, there needs to be alternative, but people find that soft and they don't vote for his videos to get on 106 & Park so that's why there's not much out there like that, btw Common released a catchy song in "Go!" last summer, which was basically a tasteful and fun song but it still didn't get as much airplay as the more hardcore videos got then...
  18. Yeah well it just shows that FP is a true artist, he just doesn't go along with everything the record label tells him to do, he could just "follow everybody when it's time to rap" like he puts it, but he stands on his own, that's why his career been over 2 decades, and btw like I said earlier there's quality music out there it's just that people just don't seem to care to check for it or only listen to what the radio plays all the time rather than checking for what else is out there, just complain and not doing anything won't work, that's just like calling the president wack but not voting, what difference is that making? Positive artists won't get the push from their label if people don't support them, fans make or break careers, we could have a golden era of hip-hop again if fans open their minds to all styles again...
  19. KRS' last platinum album came when Puffy was on the "Step Into A World" remix for him like that article I posted said, which was good for him at the time but even the more thugged out rappers were selling more than him, basically in order for positive hip-hop to sell it'd have be more commercialised(Like FP's "Big Willie Style", Black Eyed Peas, Kanye albums) but even then it probably still couldn't compete with the more thugged rappers out there, people just prefer to support that more, if Common could only go gold off having a commercial producer like Kanye produce his album then I don't know what it'd take, 50'd definately go way above gold if Kanye produced for him I could bet 'cause more people are into 50, 50 Cent actually had Talib Kweli's producer Hi-Tek on producing his last album as well, it really comes down to what the fans prefer, DJ Premiere could produce for Nas and go gold, produce for Christina Aguilara and sell millions, Timbaland produces for Jay-Z and Jay-Z goes triple platinum, he produces for LL and LL goes gold, now that's a difference of millions right there, that's why record labels are looking for the next Jay-Z more than the next LL, it's a difference of millions of dollars right there for the labels to profit off of,people don't buy 'cause of producing they buy 'cause of the artist performing... Everybody on this forum has beengoing on about if there was more big named producers and singles that "Lost and Found" would sell more but I was saying all along on the most part that it don't matter who produces for FP or how many singles get released FP won't be the highest selling rapper 'cause his raps are profanity free, most people look at that today as soft, they want to hear thug rap, rap about pimpin', drug dealin', he coulda had Timbaland, Kanye, Cool and Dre, etc. produce on "Lost and Found" released 5 singles and barely go past platinum 'cause he don't fit that mold of what most people want to hear, he knows that too, that's why he ain't breakin' his promise to his grandma just to sell more, that shows right there that he ain't worried about selling, Interscope knew that too that's why they didn't release more singles, it's a sad thing 'cause as fans we want to see more videos, that'd just cost the label way too much to do that and it wouldn't bring much profit back, it's sorta sad that hip-hop turned into Walmart and Mcdonald's 'cause it takes away from what artists could do, only somebody like 50 or Eminem could do a lot of videos 'cause there's a lot of people buying their product and the label profits off of that, now I think doing cross promotion helps FP some though since he's a big movie star, that's what does his career better than other positive rappers, he'd be underground like KRS right now if he wasn't topping box offices... Positive hip-hop like Tribe Called Quest and De La Soul used to sell without being commercialised 'cause people were into them, there was as big of a market for them as there was for NWA at the time, once Snoop and Dre started blowing up people stopped buying JJFP(you see the difference of sales between "Homebase and "Code Red"), PE, LL, Tribe Called Quest, KRS, etc. type rap on the most part 'cause they started to get more into Biggie, Pac, now Eminem and 50 Cent type rap, there's not that much interest for variety, now people make fun of that positive type of hip-hop and call it backpacker or nerd crap and just support the thugged out rap, it ain't 50's fault that people don't want to buy Talib Kweli and Common...
  20. Well a lot of the people behind the scenes like those who work for the record labels and media outlets seem to be more concerned about doing something to benefit themselves more than thinking about integrity, it's all about ratings and sales, they just push what has been proven to sell, there's quite a bit of things that need to happen but I think it starts with the consumer, if they were more aware of what they buy, watch, listen to then I think it'll go back to the corporations that there is a market for more variety, it's supply and demand, of course if maybe if there was more people behind the scenes that're more conscious about what they want to push out there that'd definately help but if nobody wants to buy it then it don't matter who works behind the scenes, the fans are the ones with the most power, without us buying albums these artists wouldn't have a career in the show buisiness, 50 would be still living in the projects instead of making a negative impact on hip-hop if millions of people decided not to buy his albums, these artists'd have to do other jobs if they can't sell records, the power people have is undeniable... I found an interesting editoral browsing through allhiphop.com that talks about the negativity of hip-hop being promoted by record companies: http://www.allhiphop.com/editorial/?ID=142 It mentions that 70% of people ain't offended by hip-hop being played on the radio, so that's the problem right there, nobody cares, if the rappers who go against the grain don't get the support, it don't matter how much promotion they get, somebody like LL or Common can't do Eminem or 50 Cent numbers no matter how much promotion they get 'cause people ignore positive artists, it's been proven, for example last year Common basically released as many singles as 50 Cent did but 50 Cent sells 10X more than Common does, the record labels would go broke if they signed more artists like Common, artists like 50 Cent keep their job going 'cause that's what people want to hear, the people who buy records need to stand up and say they ain't gonna go for rappers making songs that're violent and drug infested and support the artists that put thought into music if somethings's really gonna change
  21. Yeah well it's a choice that artists like 50 and these other pop rappers make that they're gonna have to deal with, the way they act sets them up for criticism, it's that type of image that they put out, they rather sell their soul just to sell more records 'cause they're doing what other people want them to do rather than doing something that they want to do from the heart, that's why they don't have much credability, making fast food music or disposable music you could say.... And btw I bet most people who liked "The Massacre" probably never even heard 50's earlier stuff, they're just bandwagon fans, 50 lost his original audience already 'cause he short changed himself, that's why he's setting himself up for a short career... The main point I wanted to make by bringing up those quotes is that it ain't really only the artists fault the way the music industry is, it's also the consumer, if they chose to be more cautious in the music they buy then I think maybe we'd see more quality music getting played on the radio and more quality music on the charts, fans choose negativity and wackness so we're gonna get negativity and wackness, simple as that, but it seems only few of us actually care about what's quality and what's not, most want to ride the bandwagon...
  22. 50 does other type of songs that ain't about violence, sex, and drugs but most of his music still sucks, even if he turned into a gospel rapper he'd still suck, he's a sucker mc, like Busta said in "You Can't Hold The Torch" this applies to 50 "you need to work on your punchlines, finesse the flow", the difference between 50 when he started and now is that he used to come harder on the mic, now he just lost his hunger 'cause the fame got to his head, he thinks he don't have to work on a hot flow and punchlines anymore, but if he released more positive songs as singles he probably would sell less, people like negativity more, it's hard for positive music to sell, and not all positive artists are great either, look at the Black Eyed Peas, lol...
  23. boy have you got your info wrong on this bigted 50 only dissed diddy because he was frustrated with diddy about how long it was taking to transfer mase to g-unit it's been over a year and diddy has been dragging his feet i would be frustrated to its like youreally want a job know yougot it but the job is dragging it's feet in hiring you Well Mase ain't really worth all that aggrevation, if 50 can't get him he should go after a better rapper, Mase needs to go back to preaching again and get out of rap 'cause he sucks... btw there are songs on "10" and "Definition" that're more painful to listen to than "Bump This" respectfully speaking, just 'cause G-Unit's on it doesn't mean that it's wack...Most likely this album will be more on the line between LL's last few albums, basically just stuff for the mainstream, now there are still some tracks where he does put his heart into but some tracks he's been doing it feels that he's just trying to win over the Jay-Z, Nelly, etc. audiences, it's obvious that he's in a panic mode 'cause TI and Young Joc are selling more albums than he is right now, it just feels like he's worried too much about being on top of the pop charts, if he just does his thing I think that'll take care of itself anyway, fans enjoyed LL the most when he'd sound different from other rappers, having J-Lo or 50 Cent on the hook won't go over well to the millions of fans that bought his albums in the past, they want to see LL do his thing, not them, that's why LL's falling short of expectations, he could sell more records and win more awards when he just does his thing, executive produce the album himself, have lil' guest appearances, if it don't sell a lot so be it, as long as it's a great album that's all that'd matter, just trying to cater to Nelly audiences ain't working for credability... I wish that he could just take his time and make another classic rather than just trying to be the highest selling rapper, he don't need to compete with pop rappers, he needs to continue to hold on to his legacy as a G.O.A.T. mc...
  24. Yeah I think a lot of the rappers that get criticised for being negative actually have some positive songs on their albums, I got quotes from Jigga and 50 responding to criticism of their music being negative: EW:Your music has been criticised for having too much sex, violence and profanity. What would happen if you eased up on that stuff? Jay-Z:They wouldnt feel it.They wouldnt buy ti.Thats a fact. You absolutely know thats a fact. 50:And it wouldnt be me as an artist,so it would have no substance. It would just be words over some music. EW:But why does sex, violence and profanity have to be the substance so much of the time? Jay-People can tell if something is contrived. We're doing whats natural to us.We're having fun in the studio talking about experiences that we went through. For us to take ourselves out of our element just to please someone else.it wouldnt be what we do 50:How many newspapers do you think get sold a day worldwide?Aint **** positive in none of them.Maybe Sunday in the entertainment section.Everything else is about someone who did some **** they wasnt supposed to do.People want to see that EW:even some hip hop fans say your music is too fixated on materialism and violence.Does that bother you? Jay-Z:Nah because that sends a signal to me immediately that people dont listen to the album. EW:That stuff is just on the hits? Jay-Z:There you go.That lets you know what the world wants."Big Pimpin" was a huge hit but i put out a single before and after it. EW:What were they? Jay-Z:Yeah exactly. On my fifth album i had "Give it to Me" and "Soon You'll Understand"[sample lyric:You said the streets claim lives/but i wanted things like bling bling ice,i was wrong in hindsight].So "Give It To Me" plays on the radio for eight months a year but nobody picks up 'Soon You'll Understand."Thats the way the world is man.So if sombody says "Jay-Z just about champagne and all that" then i know[snaps his fingers]automatically that you dont listen to the album. Like Jigga says there you really can't judge an artist off of what's on the radio all the time, they release positive songs and those don't play on the radio, I mean don't we tell that to people that diss Will? Don't believe the hype...
