  1. "Lupe Fiasco's Food & Liquor" Sprouts A Leak...Again Tuesday - September 12, 2006 by Dick Johnson Lupe Fiasco's debut LP Lupe Fiasco's Food & Liquor has reportedly leaked onto the internet for the second time. Earlier this year, the Chi-Town emcee's debut LP leaked nearly two months before its intended June 27th release date. The album was consequently postponed. At the time, Lupe assured SOHH.com that listeners only got to hear roughly 40% of the album with collaborations with Jill Scott, Three Six Mafia and Jay-Z still in the works. "Daydreamin," a single featuring Jill Scott is slated to follow-up Fiasco's current single, the Pharrell Williams-assisted, "I Gotcha." Hov serves as the album's co-executive producer. Lupe Fiasco's Food & Liquor is slated to hit stores September 19th on 1st & 15th/Atlantic Records.
  2. Well I think that maybe if Jigga wanted to step back for a minute and put energy into running Def Jam then he might be able to have success but with him working on a new album and doing concerts is really showing that he really doesn't deserve to have that opportunity, he's really just after having the title that way it could promote his image so he could sell more albums himself, JD has success at being head of a record label 'cause he's more of a producer, he's not out there doing concerts and he don't put out that much of his own songs
  3. Yeah that's true but those artists ain't really considered the best artists in hip-hop, Def Jam used to represent classic hip-hop on a mainstream, the problem lies that Jigga needs to sign better new artists and give support to the legends that're still there, I think the best thing would be for somebody that's not an artist to take over as president of Def Jam, somebody like Dame Dash would be good, Jay gets too much credit for Roc-A-Fella but it was Dame Dash that was the head of that, you see only Kanye is shining now on there since Dame Dash left, it don't have to be Dash necessarily but the main thing would be though that the new president of Def Jam won't be an artist is the point I'm making... Jay's not a good president, he's a good artist though...
  4. Well this is great news if it's true, if Jigga wants to rap still he shouldn't be Def Jam president, LL said it best that Jay-Z is only good at promoting Jay-Z, Def Jam has fallen off ever since Russell Simmons left, it used to represent the best of hip-hop but not anymore
  5. www.okayplayer.com Speaking of Def Jam, 2007, and Jay-Z (watch the A&E videos for ?uesto's commentary on the new Jay-Z)... rumor on the street is that Jay's been fired. Of course, when this news officially comes out, it will be positioned as if he's stepping down (just in time for his world tour and new album). Dig it, I don't know dude and I truly enjoy every one of his albums, but how any music exec could see past the fact that this label released albums from Method Man and The Roots ON THE SAME DAY with damn near no promotions (respective to how these artists are used to being treating) is totally beyond me. That being said, hopefully the climate at the label in 2007 will return to that which earned them the title as the greatest label in hip hop..... hopefully.
  6. btw there's gonna be a special on 2Pac on BET at 7:30PM US East Coast time tomorrow, some artists are gonna speak about how they felt about Pac, I saw Jada in the commercial clip...
  7. Yeah you can't really put 2Pac in the category as most rappers on the radio, he deserves to be in the same sentence as those like Chuck D, KRS, and Ice Cube, he was a powerful voice just like they are, he was like the Marvin Gaye of hip-hop, a voice of a generation... I felt like crying when I saw those ignorant kids on 106 & Park yelling out when they were asked what rapper 50 reminds them of the most and they said 2Pac
  8. Yeah well it'd be good if people could use trajedies like this as motivation to show heart and appreciate living more, btw damn it's kinda hard to believe it's been 5 years already, I was 16 years old at the time and was in gym class in high school when I heard about it
  9. TO who? Mcnabb gets 300+ passing yards and the Eagles won yesterday, just the first step to Super Bowl XL, they're going to Miami!! :gettinjiggywitit:
  10. Yeah I'm with you on that, it's definately a trajedy that should never be forgotten but there's other trajedy's going on in the world that deserve some attention too
  11. I think this is a new track 'cause I saw it being in the audio section on allhiphop.com a couple weeks ago if I'm not mistaken, it's fire, Skillz brings it as usual :kool:
  12. LL Cool J "How I'm Comin'" btw, I noticed that you mention Shaq there AJ, he was rapping in Kay Slay's video on Rap City
  13. Yeah I like MC Hammer but he definately wasn't the best rapper when he was selling all of those albums and there have been rappers with more skills than 50 over the past few years, and of course since I ain't a Loretta I say that "Big Willie Style" wasn't necessarily the best album FP did in his career even though it sold 12 million... btw it's obvious that 50 wanted to start more controversey 'cause come on now doesn't he have millions of dollars, why the hell wouldn't he get his car registered? It's like he's begging the cops to pull him over to get his name in the paper and if he was such a great buisinessman why don't he talk to Puffy behind close doors? I don't see Donald Trump running to the press to diss the person he's trying to negotiate with...
  14. Yeah it's unfortunate that most people only know Pac for what he did after he died, there wouldn't be that many people jumping on the bandwagon if he were living, he was talking about getting away from the commercial image that Death Row was putting on him so there's no chance in hell he'd work with many of these pop rappers that got on his matieral, I don't understand why Pac's mother has to try to water down his material for, I pray that we don't have Pac on the "Laffy Taffy" remix... It's kinda unfortunate that Pac and Biggie were beefing before they died 'cause that seemed to leave the energy for other rappers coming after to beef, we diss 50 for dissing others who work with Ja Rule but Pac dissed others who worked with Biggie, that's one thing about Pac that I didn't like either that turned out to impact negatively, I'm not a loretta where I talk about everything somebody does as being great, now I don't think Pac would've liked to remembered the most for beefing but that's part of the territory I guess and 'cause of that beef I don't think there's any way Biggie could be underrated, that's the dumbest thing I ever heard, in fact I think dissing Biggie ended doing a lot for Biggie, now whenever somebody thinks of Pac, they think about Biggie, they're linked in history even though Pac was much better, Biggie's the most overrated rapper of all time to me, his subject matter in songs was weak on the most part even though he had mic skills, he really rapped only about money, drugs, and hoes like most radio rappers do today, it's easier to imagine Biggie doing a song with Nelly than it'd be to see Pac do a song with Ja Rule or 50 but maybe if LL died 10 years ago wewouldn't picture him doing an album with 50 either, we don't really know for sure either way that's why those who were close to them at the time should be on their songs... Now alot of rappers like Biggie have mic skills but what seperates Pac from them is that he'd rap more about real life issues than they do/did and that's why he's one of the greatest, he rapped about what was going on in society, that's why people connected to him and still do... It'd be nice if rappers could be motivated to build on the thoughtful messages Pac put in most of the music while he was living instead of tarnishing Pac's legacy by bringing up his name in beefs that he wasn't a part of or would be a part of most likely but people feed off of negativity more it seems...
  15. With all these stunts 50 does it wouldn't surprise me if he did get hurt sooner or later, ever since he survived 9 shots he thinks he's superman but that ain't the case, he needs to check himself and quit being such an ass
  16. Charles Barkley always backed up his talk, playing well on both ends of the floor, there ain't many players in the NBA today that plays with the heart that he had as a player

  18. I don't really like that many songs that Biggie did but he definately had strong freestyle and flow abilities that a lot of mcs today lack
  19. Biggie didn't have half the talent and impact that Pac had really to me, Pac was much more creative, Biggie was more just another rapper who made most of his songs about drugs and guns, and since most rappers do that today I think that's why he's ranked so high right now, Big Pun was a great lyricist but not really that deep as Pac, Big L never really got a chance to blow up yet but he was dominating the underground scene for a while, the one dead rapper that never seems to get much love is Left Eye but female mcs are always underrated... And like that article said it's kind of ironic that the music critics slammed "Makaveli" but then after he dies all of a sudden they call it one of the best rap albums ever which makes me believe that if he was alive he probably wouldn't get the credit that he got since he passed on, especially these days since the best artists get slept on in the media with all these wack rappers selling, it seems that with a lot of great artists they ain't appreciated till they're gone...
  20. Well since the Diddy dissing stunt fails I guess he's going back to the drawing board, doing all of these publicity stunts 'cause he knows he can't sell off of skills alone...
  21. There's also many mcs that're living that came out before and after Pac that're also very talented but never get the full recognition they deserve like I said before, not knocking Pac at all 'cause I like a lot of his music but he ain't the only legend of hip-hop like some people hype him up to be, we shouldn't wait till they're dead to celebrate them is all I'm saying... I thought "R U Still Down"(Remember Me) was a proper release after his death, it's a lot of those albums after that where things went wrong in terms of the way the projects were handled where only bandwagon fans and fans of today's pop rap would feel, not his original fans...
  22. Barkley, Wilkins, Dumars to Enter Hall By PAT EATON-ROBB Associated Press Writer SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Charles Barkley loves watching films of himself playing basketball. He says it's not narcissistic. It's about seeing basketball played hard, with players giving 100 percent and the game coming before the individual. "I always tried as hard as I possibly could," Barkley said Friday before his induction into the Basketball Hall of Fame. "I like seeing that on tape. Today, they want to be stars. They don't want to be great players. We wanted to be great players." Two other greats from Barkley's era, Dominique Wilkins and Joe Dumars, were to be inducted Friday night, as part of a Hall of Fame class that also includes former Big East commissioner Dave Gavitt, Connecticut women's coach Geno Auriemma and Italian coach Sandro Gamba. Barkley, Auriemma and Gavitt were first-ballot selections. Barkley, who averaged 22 points and almost 12 rebounds in 16 NBA seasons, is hardly known for his humility. But he called it a humbling experience to be placed in the company of other Hall of Famers from his era - players such as Michael Jordan, Larry Bird and Magic Johnson. "It was the best," Barkley said. "When you compare these little rinky-dink teams you all got now to Bird's Celtics, Magic's Lakers and Michael's Bulls - they'd kill these guys you all got winning today." The Pistons were also pretty good, winning championships in 1989 and 1990 with Joe Dumars at guard. Barkley called Dumars the best player on those teams, which also included more flamboyant stars, such as Hall of Famer Isiah Thomas, Bill Laimbeer and Dennis Rodman. "I wasn't concerned about the marquee board," said Dumars, who played his entire 14-year career in Detroit. "That's never mattered to me and I gladly let others step forward and do that. If there was a championship that year, then my whole focus was just that." Like Barkley, Wilkins never won a championship. But he was a nine-time NBA All-Star and a two-time NBA Slam Dunk champion known as "the Human Highlight Reel" for his above-the-rim acrobatics. It's a nickname he doesn't much care for. "Dunking was just a small part of my game," he said. "Dunking was just an intimidating tool I used. I had a much more rounded game than just dunking. To get 26,000 points, you don't get them all on dunks." Gamba coached European basketball for more than three decades, including four consecutive Italian Olympic teams from 1980-92. His team won a silver medal at the 1980 Moscow Olympics and the gold at the 1983 European Championships. Auriemma already has five national championship trophies at Connecticut and is closing in on winning his 600th career game next season. He joins UConn men's coach Jim Calhoun in the Hall of Fame. On Friday, Auriemma said all Big East coaches owe their careers to Gavitt, who helped form the league in 1979 and served as its first commissioner. Gavitt also was president of USA Basketball and is credited with putting together the original 1992 Dream Team that won the gold medal in Barcelona, a team that featured Johnson, Jordan and Bird. "Barkley was the best player on that team," Gavitt said.
  23. This was a great read and brought up key points about 2Pac, it's ridiculous to see when rappers have been beefing over the past decade that they bring up points about how Pac would roll with them if he were alive, wtf does that have to do with their battle, they should let the man rest in peace and fight their own battles, it's not right but they figure maybe they'll attract some of Pac's fanbase since he had millions of fans, the way some of these rappers have pimped Pac's legacy for their careers, they should be writing checks to Pac's family, lol.... Pac was a great artist but it's been sorta unfair that he gets all this recognition when there's other great artists that're alive that deserve recognition, we shouldn't forget Pac but I don't think we should forget the great artists that're alive either, and the choosing artists that he never worked with/actually beefed with to be on his unreleased material is something that should have never happened, only those who produced with/worked with/or was friends with but never collabed with 'cause he passed on already should be on some of his unreleased material, that way it'd really have the feel of an authentic Pac album...
