  1. Uh, I don't think the album came out yet, just a few tracks were leaked on the internet, the album's been pushed back being released for a lil' while so they could rework some tracks...
  2. Here's another article I found that has more details: Tyrese Gives In To Rap Passion, Plans To 'Change The World' With Double LP 'It's a passion of mine,' he says. 'I'm not doing it to be the biggest name in hip-hop.' by Coral Schneider, with additional reporting by Corey Moss There's a Black Ty event this fall and everyone is invited. Like many music stars before him — David Bowie as Ziggy Stardust, wack rapper #2 as Slim Shady, Garth Brooks as Chris Gaines, etc. — R&B model-turned-singer-turned-actor Tyrese is introducing an alter ego to go along with his latest turn as a rapper. The project, fittingly titled Alter Ego and due this fall, will feature both Tyrese and Black Ty doing their things on separate discs (see "Tyrese, With Help From Snoop And Game, To Unveil Rapping Alter Ego"). And both personas will release simultaneous singles — tracks yet to be determined — to kick off the double album. "I'm going to have my R&B video have about 20 seconds of the hip-hop song, and the hip-hop video will have 20 seconds of the R&B song," Tyrese said at last month's BET Awards. "I'm going to have two different covers, shoot two different videos and just change the world up." The hip-hop album will feature a number of collaborators, including Snoop Dogg, Game, Chingy, David Banner, Mannie Fresh, Paul Wall, Ice Cube and Kurupt. "Everybody and their mama's on the album," Tyrese said. "I got the whole hip-hop gang behind me. They've all embraced me." Now he just needs his fans to embrace him, and he's hopeful that they will. "It's one of them things where once again, I'm making a transition from one world to the other," he said. "I line myself up with the right folks, and they get behind me. Now it's about the fans hearing it and being exposed to it and feeling good about it. "A new R&B album is exciting, but not as exciting as the buzz that's out about this hip-hop album," he continued. "I ain't trying to force this rap thing on nobody. I love it. It's a passion of mine. I'm not doing it to be the biggest name in hip-hop." Along with his R&B and hip-hop projects, Tyrese continues to make his mark in the film industry. After the release of his summer drama "Waist Deep," he started production on the much anticipated live-action "Transformers" film, based on the popular Hasbro toy. The action movie, directed by Michael Bay ("Pearl Harbor," "Armageddon"), is set for release in July 2007. Also in the works are plans to act opposite his "Waist Deep" co-star Meagan Good, who is developing a collaboration for the two — a project similar to the supermodel biopic "Gia," but about a music-video model. "We gotta do another one," Tyrese said of working with Good. "The chemistry was unreal. There's no need for me to do a movie with another leading lady. This is it right here for me." 3. I heard some of Lupe's stuff, it sounds pretty good but I wouldn't go as far as saying that he's the next KRS-ONE yet, he definately got potential though to be one of the rising stars of the rap game and bring a breath of fresh air to drown out some of the sucker mcs out now if he gets the right promotion behind him, hopefully another single besides "Kick Push"'ll get out there before his album comes out, btw I checked out some tracks on Rhymefest's album and I think he got a lot of potential too, sure Kanye might be overhyped a lil' bit but I gotta give him props for trying to bring talented mcs in the game...
  4. I honestly don't get what's the point of keeping this topic pinned since this album ain't selling anymore?!! :damnyou:
  5. My thoughts exactly but really that's probably the only way it could marketed and more than likely the major label will probably try to tie it to one of Will's movies which wouldn't help Will's cred as an mc, Will needs to take a break from movies and focus on the return of JJFP if he really wants rap heads to mention his name among the all time mcs...
  6. Didn't Benzino try to get the Source to give one of his albums 5 mics?, lol, I think the controversey was that they were giving Tony Yayo's album more mics than Little Brother since those albums came out around that time and they got mad 'cause of that, yeah well Interscope thought "Tell Me Why" was too political to come out so it's definately believable that BET wouldn't want to play Little Brother, really the only way to get out there is if you dumb down now, that's why it's so hard for Kel Spencer to get a record deal...
  7. Well Will's popularity increased since the last official Jazzy Jeff and Fresh Prince album but I don't know about Jazzy Jeff, the average commercial fan doesn't really know who he is, I mean didn't "The Magnificent" sell even less than "Born To Reign" did? Maybe there'll be enough fans who bought "Lost and Found" that'll go out and buy this album for it to go gold, and like I said earlier if it goes gold it'd be enough to show that JJFP is still commercially relevant 'cause even pop artists struggle to gold now, even Michael Jackson's next album might be a struggle to platinum, it's hard to be relevant in the music industry for such a long time 2 decades after releasing your first album, but the only way I'll see them sell millions is if they work with watered down pop artists or add a hot girl to the group who can't sing like Black Eyed Peas did, lol, that's why I don't even care about how much it sells 'cause not many real artists sell millions now, I don't want to see JJFP sell out or dumb down to it either, so I don't think a rap duo that hasn't released an offical album in over a decade is gonna do millions anymore when there's some real artists that release albums every year that can't do it... Really the main point here as well is that fans ain't really that loyal either, you can't live off of the past to expect it to be the same way now, not really that many who bought "Homebase" are gonna be around to buy this album either, they all jumped the ship when "Code Red" came out so truely how many of them over a decade later are gonna come back to buy this album? But the major question to me is would a major label even be willing to release a JJFP album with no major guest appearances? In this day and age every album has to have guests on at least half of the tracks it seems, most likely it'll be the same **** that LL is facing right now where they won't release his albums unless he works with all the pop superstars out now, he might be the most successful rapper from the ol' school era but he surely ain't really the most credible in doing this, the label might force them to work with wack rapper #1, wack rapper #2, overhyped rapper #1 and a bunch of pop chicks that can't sing, I think basically that's the reason why Jazzy Jeff don't want to **** with major labels anymore, Columbia wanted him to dumb down but he didn't so the album never came out, I really don't see it that much different now... The best thing would be for them to form a Overbrook/Touch Of Jazz partnership and distribute the album through an independent like Koch to have creative freedom 'cause we know that basically the only reason why Interscope allowed "Lost and Found" to come out was 'cause of the "something for wack rapper #2" thing and they weren't willing to release "Tell Me Why" 'cause they thought it was too political, these major labels only want to put out watered down ****, I mean "Willenium" never got the recognition it deserved from hip-hop heads 'cause those weak tracks like "Freakin' It" and "Will2K" were the only singles that Columbia was willing to release, by the time Will released "So Fresh" himself the hype from the album died down already so the real hip-hop heads didn't noticed, they never got a chance to check the real tracks on the album like "Pump Me Up" and "Potnas", they figured it was another pop rap album like "Big Willie Style" and they wrote off checking it out... I want to see JJFP do their thing and release real hip-hop tracks to improve credability, not dumb down for a pop audience...
  8. Even it only does "Code Red" numbers I wouldn't mind, these days with downloading not many albums in rap music and pop music in general go gold, even pop singers like Nick Lachey and Pink struggle to sell that much and even wack rapper #1's group members ain't even going gold, but sales ain't the most important thing here, the main thing would be that it comes out and it's a great album to listen to that'll help JJFP have that street credability, I'd rather see JJFP listed among the all time rap groups among rap fanatics rather than seeing them go diamond...
  9. Yeah I think if it was 100% JJFP album it'd be a better quality album than having a million guests on it, maybe they could work with a few artists on remixes or b-sides though and maybe do a tour with a few of them...
  10. This is not Trina the rapper, this Trina is a singer: http://launch.yahoo.com/ar-290655-bio--Trina--Tamara The sisters of R&B singer Jesse Powell, urban duo Trina and Tamara hailed from Gary, IN; the Powells relocated to Philadelphia in 1983, and there all four siblings -- as well as their mother Emerald -- performed in the family group Sheer Joy. When Jesse headed for Los Angeles in 1990, Trina and Tamara followed, and established themselves as session vocalists; as members of the group Something for the People, the sisters also scored a hit in 1997 with "My Love Is the Shhh.." Signing to Columbia, the duo released their self-titled debut album in mid-1999. ~ Jason Ankeny, All Music Guide
  11. "Willenium" is such a masterpiece of an album, a great blend of ol' school and new school hip-hop all in one disc, I think if JJFP got together soon and made another album it'd be probably the best ever 'cause they seem to improve in time...
  12. Yeah this is perfect timing for a JJFP album to come out, commercial rap fans are getting tired of gimmicks from all these wack pop rappers, a new JJFP album could be a breath of fresh air for the genre, fingers crossed that this'll happen within the next year or so...
  13. Source mentioned "He's The DJ, I'm The Rapper" among the 100 greatest rap albums in their 10th anniversary issue back in '98, I don't know how many mics they gave it, it was probably one of the first albums that they rated since the magazine started the same year as that album came out...
  14. Yeah 3 mics is a solid rating, I wonder how many mics "Willenium", "He's The DJ, I'm The Rapper", and "Code Red" have gotten, now if those albums didn't get more than 3 mics it'd be a crime 'cause those are classic albums...
  15. Well there's a lot of great lists here, some of those CDs y'all mentioned I might look into myself, great topic to start... Lately I've been working on building up my album catalogue a bit more, I always try to browse around for good prices to buy albums but the most convient way for me to buy music at a good value is to get it at bmgmusicservice.com, they got a lot of clearance values all the time, if anyone's interested in joining that music club send me a pm and I could get free CDs for helping you join the club and you'll get free CDs for joining theclub, lol... Anyways I think this is great to be talking about what we like instead of what we don't like...Here's a handful of compilation/soundtrack albums that I like a lot: Grandmaster Flash And The Furious Five, SugarHill Gang "The Showdown" Krush Groove Soundtrack Juice Soundtrack Do The Right Thing Soundtrack Nutty Professor Soundtrack Men In Black Soundtrack Wild Wild West Soundtrack Any Given Sunday Soundtrack Friday Soundtrack Next Friday Soundtrack Friday After Next Soundtrack Bad Boys Soundtrack, I didn't like Bad Boys II soundtrack that much except for a couple songs Profilin' The Hits Jazzy Jeff "The Magnificent" Ruff Ryders "Ryde Or Die Volume One"/"Ryde Or Die Volume 2" Funkmaster Flex and Big Kapp "The Tunnel" DJ Clue "The Professional Pt. One"/"The Professional Pt. Two" DJ Kay Slay "Streetsweeper Volume One", I don't like Volume Two that much but that LL track "The Truth" alone made it worth the purchase Hip-Hop Essentials(I found this in a clearance bin a couple months ago at a music store fpr $6, it even has JJFP's "Parents Don't Understand" on here along with a lot of other tracks from the golden era from the late '80s to mid '90s) And a few other albums that I like a lot but forgot to mention yesterday: Chuck D "Autobiography Of Mistachuck"(another slept on dope album from the mid-90s) BB Jay "Universal Concussion"(gospel rap at it's finest) Big Pun- "Capital Punishment", "Yeah Baby"(shows all the potential he had for being on top of the rap game for many years to come, sucka mcs like wack rapper #1 and wack rapper #2 wouldn't be eating so well if he were still alive)
  16. That was a great read, 3 mics is considered good, with all the great things that's said in that review there you'd thought that they gave it 4 mics which is superior or 5 mics which is the highest ranking of a classic album, it's sorta misleading...
  17. I think it's only a matter of time, I'm not gonna get too excited yet until more news comes in but this raises the optimism a lil' bit, JJFP forever! :kool:
  18. Too many to name, like Concept I'll probably name some without mention JJFP/Big Will 'cause I mention those enough already, off the top of my head forgetting some, I'll have to go through my CD collection to find some that I really enjoy, I try to play different stuff all the time: LL-"Mr. Smith", "Mama Said Knock You Out", "G.O.A.T.", "Radio" DMX-"It's Dark And Hell Is Hot", "The Great Depression", "And Then There Was X" KRS-"Return Of Da Boom Bap", "Kristyles", "I Got Next" Nas-"God's Son"(not considered his best by many but it's a personal favorite of mine), "Illmatic", "Street's Disciple" Public Enemy-"There's A Poison Goin' On"(again not considered the best to many but I love this one the most), "It Takes A Nation Of Millions", "Yo! Bum Rush The Show" Rakim-"Paid In Full", "18th Letter" Queen Latifah-"Black Reign" 2Pac-"2Pacalypse Now", "All Eyez On Me" Heavy D and The Boyz-"Nuttin' But Love", "Peaceful Journey" Naughty By Nature-"Poverty's Paradise", "Nineteen Naughty Nine-Nature's Fury", "iicons" Ice Cube-"Amerikka's Most Wanted", "Lethal Injection" Dr. Dre-"The Chronic" Talib Kweli-"Reflection Eternal", "Beautiful Struggle" Common-"Like Water For Chocolate", "Resurrection", "Electric Circus"(people hate on this album but it was very creative in my opinion, I like it much better than the last one produced by overhyped rapper #1, ?uestlove's production is much superior) Run-Dmc-"Raising Hell", "Tougher Than Leather", "Down With The King" Pete Rock and CL Smooth "Mecca And The Soul Brother" Slick Rick-"The Great Adventures Of Slick Rick", "The Art Of Storytellin" Outkast-"Stankonia", "Atliens" Busta Rhymes-"ELE", "When Disaster Strikes" Wyclef-"The Carnival", "Masquerade", "Eceleftic: Two Sides To A Book" Fugees-"The Score" Redman-"Dare Iz A Darkside", Method Man/Redman "The Blackout" The Roots-"Things Fall Apart", "Illadelphalflife" Aceyalone "All Balls Don't Bounce" MC Hammer-"Too Legit To Quit", "Hammer Please Don't Hurt 'Em", "Funky Headhunter"(people hate 'cause it had a harder style for him but it's definately a quality album) Fat Joe-"Represent"(this album never gets the props it deserves but it was definately one of the top albums from the mid-90s), "Don Cartegena" Tribe Called Quest-"Low End Theory" Salt-N-Pepa "Very Necassary" Foxy Brown-"Ill Na Na", "Broken Silence" Snoop Dogg-"Doggystyle", "Doggfather", "Paid The Cost To Be The Boss" De La Soul-"Stakes Is High", "De La Soul Is Dead", "The Grind Date" Ja Rule-"VenniVetti Vecci", "Rule 3:36" Jay-Z-"Reasonable Doubt", "Volume 2: Hard Knock Life" The Game "The Documentary"
  19. Well the thing is that 'cause JJFP weren't really doing any pro-black songs like the hardcore rappers were doing at the time so that's why NWA was saying that JJFP sold out since they were doing party songs instead of songs dissing the police or the government, the hardcore rappers like NWA wanted to take rap away from that fun image that was there in the early '80s and make it more rebellious, but in reality JJFP has never left the black community behind since they continually opened up doors to get black artists bigger respect in entertainment so it'd be foolish to still diss them now and saying that they sold out on the black community that's why hardcore rappers like Ice Cube coming out to show love now, it's great to see that Ice Cube's acknowledging Will here, he's one of my favorite rappers ever, his new album "Laugh Now, Cry Later" is exceptional...
  20. Well as time goes on people grow, there's a lot of things that we say when we're younger that we might not mean now, it's not being hypocritical, it's maturing, Ice Cube probably was able to understand that Will was real brotha once he got to know him, and as far as Dr. Dre, he was just backing up Em there 'cause that's his artist on his label 'cause if Will ended Em's career Dre would lose money, if Em was my artist and I was in Dre's position I'd probably do the same thing, lol, I don't think Dre really got any hard feelings towards Will though either...
  21. http://www.contactmusic.com/new/xmlfeed.ns...2244_14_06_2006 "WILL SMITH and I are cool... When I do a movie, he'll send a gift basket with a note, and I do the same for him." Rapper ICE CUBE on his Hollywood acquaintances.
  22. My point exactly, 50 Cent and a lot of these pop rappers don't exist to me, I'd rather talk about how much I'm feeling Ice Cube's album instead...
  23. Yeah AJ when we keep talking about 50 and these garbage rappers ruining rap we're keeping their careers alive, they need to do stupid **** like this to draw attention 'cause their songs ain't good enough to do that, there are great rappers out there worth talking about instead, people need to pay attention to the music and stop getting caught up in this WWE fabrication...
  24. Tyrese is gonna have to really suck to be an embarassment considering how many wack mcs are out
