  1. Yeah "He's The DJ, I'm The Rapper" track is classic, I'd have to give that a mention myself
  2. I ordered a mixtape "Countdown To The Big Bang" online a couple weeks ago but it sold out already so I wasn't able to receive it, that's how much buzz he has right now, I was a lil' dissapointed I wasn't able to get that since it had a lot of exclusive tracks that weren't gonna be on this album but I was able to get the album a couple days ago, it's definately more versatile than his last couple albums, he shows the world with this one that he could do more than just be animated with club bangers, I'd rank it a 4.5/5, the only problem I seem to have with it is that I don't get why the "Touch It" remix wasn't on there since it was all over radio and TV, it's tough to compare his album to LL's and Ice Cube's 'cause they all got different styles but they're definately all still going strong in keepin' real hip-hop alive in their own ways, they should all tour together to promote their albums
  3. I personally would love to hear Pete Rock produce more with Will again, he should also hook up with the other producers on "Code Red" like Dallas Austin and Teddy Riley since that was the best produced album of his career but I think his popularity would increase more if Dr. Dre produced for him since everything that he produces seems to hit platinum plus in the last 20 years, you could see the wonders that he's done in resurrecting Busta Rhymes' career, he produced quite a bit on Busta's new album and it sells as much in the first week sales as his last album did altogether, since Will's on Interscope I don't think it'd be that hard either for them to do something together
  4. I think I might of started the league too early, I pushed our draft back a week to see if more are interested
  5. Yeah on this album production could be a lil' better but I think Ice Cube's powerful flow overshadowed any weak beats there might be, I definately consider it one of the strongest albums released since Will's "Lost and Found" came out last year, I like it better than Kanye's 2 albums combined, like he said on "Child Support" there ain't no other kings in this rap thing, he's the real king of the west coast and hip-hop in general, he deserves the throne, he had a big first week selling over 145,000 copies so he'll probably go platinum with this one, I was watching Rap City today and saw that there's a video for "Go To Church" already, it looks hot, btw I gotta get Busta's album this weekend, I see he's been hosting on there all week... I've been so busy working lately I haven't had a chance to get it yet, when I get a day off from work next week I'll probably post reviews for both albums, most likely I'll probably have to order KRS' new album online 'cause stores never seem to carry his new albums most of the time but I'll be looking for that one too, I'm also looking forward to Hammer's album after hearing what he posted on his myspace, he's coming back big himself I think, it's great to know that there's some mcs out there worth checking for, it's been a dry spell for a while as far as having so many weak mcs dropping....
  6. Well to break to you man, Tra-Knox broke up a while ago, they ain't doing music anymore, sorry...
  7. Well I know I'm gonna sleep on a lot of stuff but I think I'll try to cover a lil' bit from each album: "Summertime" "Brand New Funk" "As We Go" "The Magnificent Jazzy Jeff" "Tell Me Why" "I'm Lookin' For The One"(To Be With Me) "Jazzy's Groove" "Potnas" "Born To Reign" "Don't Say Nothin"
  8. You need to show this person this quote by Jazzy Jeff and it'll clear everything, Will wanted to bring Jazzy more into the spotlight around the "Men In Black" times but Jazzy didn't want that, it was his choice to play the background, Will didn't leave him behind: "During the times of Men In Black Will had the chance for one of the best contracts at Sony. He wanted me to join him, but I didnt feel beeing signed at a major label. he totaly understood, and I let him do his thing. I would have worked with him forever, I would make beats for him, tour with him.. But I just didnt feel the major label thing".
  9. I swear the people who hate on Will are so ignorant, if they knew anything about him they'd know that he wouldn't sell out on Jazzy Jeff
  10. How could Will be ranked higher than last year if he didn't release a movie during that time? Well on that note I gotta hand it to you Max you're definately right, what's the point for Will to rap anymore right? I honestly can't complain now if Will decides not to rap anymore 'cause it seems like the so called hip-hop headsforgot about him already even though he released his best album last year. Will wants to do something where he gets a lot of love for, the hip-hopcommunity turned its back on him but it seems like he could do no wrong as an actor. It's easier for somebody like Ice Cube or LL to say that they don't wanna act anymore and do more music 'cause the hip-hop community embraces them and people wouldn't laugh at you if you put them on yourtop 10 all time rapper lists and they're not as big in Hollywood since they ain't mentioned here in Premiere magazine like Will who's vice versa. He wouldn't be caught dead being mentioned as an all time rapper but he's considered an all time actor already even though he rapped longer. So I can't be mad at him for doing more movies than music 'cause it seems like people in the hip-hop community, mostly the media and fansseem to throw the middle finger at him all the time whenever he does something with music but he don't have to deal with much hate doing movies. It probably wouldn't change much even if he did another album with Jazzy 'cause the hip-hop community called him popcorn then too, he catches as much hate as MC Hammer does. The problem is that most hip-hop fans are sheep, if the media calls somebody wack, they go along with it but the truth is these rappers today wouldn't be having success if it wasn't for cats like them. It's frustrating that a lot of those who put their dues in don't get the full recognition they deserve, but it seems with movie fans, it don't matter about how hard or soft you are, as long as your movie's hot, that's all that matters, people look at image for hip-hop more than anything, none of these pop rappers would have deals if they didn't have an image but their albums are wack, they only got a cartoon thugged image, Will don't have a fake image, he just drops quality albums, it don't matter anymore though sadly. It's like with all that hate he gotten as a rapperyou figure he'd thrown in the towel already and gave up rapping 15 years agobut it's obvious that he got more love for the game than so called hip-hop heads do, he could release 100 albums it seems and he still won't get the recognition as a rapper while Hollywood has embraced him, you can't say that Will turned his back on the hip-hop community for doing more movies than albums, it's really the opposite. The hip-hop community got no love for Will even though he's got love for hip-hop, it's heartbreaking but true and it'll probably never change, if more of them went out and supported "Lost and Found" and listed him as one of the top mcs ever then maybe we'd see him decide to do music as much as movies, and we'd see these pop rappers being motivated by his message to put more messages in their music but the game is about as messed up as it was before the album came out. He didn't impact with that album, there's no exuse for why it wasn't at least nominated for a Grammy award for best rap album this year, at least he has something to fall back on with his Hollywood career unlike a lot of his peers that got forgotten and trashed on like MC Hammer
  11. I'll admit that he's done better albums in the past but by far it's superior to everything out now, you can't expect him to make another "Amerikka's Most Wanted" everytime, it's another solid album in the heavy catalog of one of the greatest mcs ever, it'd be a crime if it don't hit platinum, the true hip-hop heads need to support this album, and I think he said he's gonna be doing more music now and less movies so I don't think we'd have to wait 6 years for another album either, the way I see him spittin' on this album he's gonna be on top for many more years to come, hopefully Will follows his lead on that one, we need real mcs to bring hip-hop back to where it should be and put those wack pop rappers like we all know who out of buisiness
  12. So who got the album? I got it last weekend and I gotta say that it's lived up to the hype, it's definately the best album this year so far, when I get more time I'm gonna post a full length review later, I give it 4.5/5
  13. Some of the songs y'all mentioned have special meaning to me too, Boyz II Men's "CooleyHighHarmony" was one of the first albums I ever heard and one of my favorites ever, I know every song by heart, I used to sing some of those songs in a charaoke contest we had at the elementary school dance, I won 1st prize for singin' "End Of The Road", I still have the certificate that I won for it, back around that time there was a class project and we were dancin' to Montell Jordan's "This Is How We Do It", I got it on tape too "Gettin' Jiggy Wit It" was the song that helped get me into Will's music, I got "Big Willie Style" on cassette as a Christmas present that year LL Cool J's "Hey Lover" with Boyz II Men brings back memories of the first girl I had a crush on when I was 10 years old, she liked another guy in my class though, it seems to be the song I always go back on whenever I have a crush on a girl, around that time I started to gettin' into LL's music and basically around that time was when I started to get into hip-hop music period, I listening to mostly r&b before then, speaking of LL, the other dayI went through a tape I had of baseball games from about 10 years ago and I noticed I taped the commercial that LL did for Major League Baseball back then, he was chillin' with Albert Belle and Ken Griffey Jr., lol I could go on and on till the break of dawn since so much music makes up the soundtrack of my life, my earliest memory of music was when I was 3 years old and I was dancin' to whenever my parents played Michael Jackson
  14. He put some tracks for his new album on his myspace page, it's some dope stuff, check it out, btw I was bumpin' "The Funky Headhunter" today: http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fusea...iendid=27933337
  15. The link I put is ok now, there should be no problems for anybody
  16. He looks like Kel Spencer in that picture, lol, he should be sporting baseball caps like LL if he's gonna keep his head like that
  17. I started a JJFP fantasy league on Yahoo for the upcoming NFL season, the ID is 59368 and the password is 2345, the online draft'll take place on July 12th at 5PM EST, join if interested: EDIT: I got the correct link, sorry http://football.fantasysports.yahoo.com/f1
  18. I found a recent blog of Hammer posting a timeline of his career, he also mentions that he'll be releasing his new album "Look 3X" on July 4th http://mchammer.blogspot.com/archives/2006...er_archive.html May 12: Chapter 11 Chapter 1: 1986 I began my career as a recording artist, known as The Holy Ghost Boy's, my partner and I introduced the world to gospel rap. He sang, I rapped. The first Gospel rapper. Chapter 2: My partner decided to go it solo as a singer and left me to go it solo as a rapper. I reemerged as,"MC Hammer the Holy Ghost Boy" and later as, "MC Hammer and The Posse" and finally as, "MC Hammer". Chapter 3: 1987- I release the album titled, "Feel My Power" and sale it coast to coast out the trunk of my car. I move enough units to attract Capitol Records and sign a ground breaking artist and label deal. 1988- I release the album, "Lets Get It Started" and introduce Hip Hop to showmanship and performance on the highest level. I go from opening, to a closing headliner on my first tour. Arenas, stadiums, and amphitheaters. The album would end up triple platnium. With hits like, "Turn This Mutha Out", "Pump It Up", "Ring'Em", "Lets Get It Started" and ," They put Me In The Mix". Chapert 4: 1990- I release the album, "Please Hammer Don't Hurt'Em" and introduce mainstream America to Hip Hop on a new level continuing with the enrgy and style that was laid on the first album. The dancing, catchy hooks and melodic music, combined with the art of sampling, remixing and re- eventing familiar old school grooves would go on to produce the hits, "Pray", "Have You Seen Her", " Here Comes The Hammer", and ,"You Can't Touch This". The album went on to sale over ten million albums (10x platnium) in America and 17 million worldwide. Chapter 5: The tour would span the globe and Hip Hop would move from second class citizen in the touring world, to Royalty. I established a blue print in inking deals with Pepsi, Mattel, ABC, British Knights, Taco Bell, KFC, and many more. I demanded that Hip Hop Artist be valued on the level of all other stars including sports stars. Chapter 6: I introduce the concept of not forgeting where you came from and began to employee my childhood friends, family and young men amd women from throughout the inner city's of America who had dreams of getting out the hood and seeing the world. Chapter 7: The number would grow to over two hundred employees with a payroll of one million dollars a month at times, and more. Chapter 8: My label would release albums on Oaktown's 357, B Angie B, Special Generation, Ace Juice, David Black and others. Laying the ground work and precedence for the Hip Hop labels that would come later, Death Row, Bad Boy, etc.... Chapter 9: BET (Black Entertainment television) BET would be left out of videos by Super Star Artist that would be given exclusively to MTV. Bob Johnson (owner of BET) and I got together at his home and I agreed to use my influence and videos to help end this un- fair practice by refusing to give MTV Exclusives on my videos. Later for a BET anniversary special Bob would call me and ask me to bring my tour off the road and cancel some dates because it was cruciall to the success of the only channel that African Americans had and he needed me and the groups who were on my tour. I explained to Bob that this would cost me up to 500 thousand dollars and he said he understood but this would be monumental for our people. I took the hit and supported BET, Bob and our people and canceled the show and headed to New Orleans for the BET 10th Anniverasry Special. Bob is still a friend til this day and I'm happy for his personal success. Chapter 10: 1992- "2 Legit 2 Quit" is released and would produce the hits, "Adams Groove", "Do Not Pass Me By", and the title cut, "2 Legit 2 Quit". The album would also feature the remake of the 1970's classic, "Why Can't We Live Together?". I felt there was racial tension in America that was not being addressed that was reaching a boiling point. Then came tha LA Riots again. Here is that video that was never released that captured the moment. The album went on to sale 4 million copies (4x platnium). 1994- would see the release of ,"The Funky Head Hunter" with the classic hits, "Pumps And A Bump" and ,"Its All Good". The Album would go platinum. 1995- would see the release of, "Inside Out" with the critical acclaimed hit as spoken by Tupac himself, "Keep On", it would also produce the critically acclaimed and now classic cover,"Goin Up Yonder" and a heart felt tribute to Eazy E, a song for Eazy (Nothing but Love). Chapter 11 1996 after ten years straight of recording, world wide touring and blazing trails for an entire genre as well as placing the medium (Hip Hop) in a positive light and helping to fulfill the dreams of many, I was left with no choice at the time and had to file a chapter 11 bankruptcy because the over all business model was no longer sustainable. The payroll was coming directly out of my pocket and a million dollars a month is a heavy burden. The debts from business and lawsuits overwhelmed my income. It was time for rest and a do over. May 12 2006 ten years later. We complete the terms of the chapter 11 and sale the remaining assets for over two and a half millions dollars. I am elated on the business side but sentimental about the assets. 1986- a start. 1996 an ending. 2006 a new beginning. Look at all 3 decades, as a matter of fact Look 3 times. 19. Yeah it seems like it hasn't been released yet, I looked everywhere for it and couldn't find it...
  20. Good luck Joe, I'm in the process of trying to get something going for myself too with saving up money from my new job I'll probably be recording soon too
  21. Hey Tim why don't you just ask Jazzy Jeff what he thinks about what Kanye says? I know you probably want him to be put a response record on "Return Of The Magnificent" You need to let it go man, this ain't Eminem or 50 Cent we're talking about here, this is Kanye West, he never disses anybody in his songs so I don't think he'd start by dissin' Jazzy Jeff, I thought Kel set the record straight already, we need to let this topic go, it's obvious that me and AJ won't like Kanye as much as some of y'all might, let's just agree to disagree on that one too, we all have different tastes...
  22. I'll be getting it tomorrow when I get off of work, I'll try to post a review here when I get a chance this week
  23. Yeah it don't matter much to me personally 'cause there's a lot of artists that I enjoy where some sell a lot and some don't, you're right how hip-hop won't die by the fans that really like it, the bandwagon fans might get tired of it but not us
  24. Well as far as popularity and the Billboard charts go hip-hop ain't as popular as it used to be, look at the charts this year you see that TI's platinum, LL's gold, and other rappers are barely selling, the public's not falling for the gimmicks anymore, if better artists don't get promoted I think hip-hop'll continue to lose popularity, maybe if wack rappers continue flopping then maybe we'll see labels sign better artists from the underground that don't get exposure but make quality music, the truth is though that if a lot of these fans who criticise the game actually search for good rappers to listen to then there won't be a problem, ignorant fans also deserve some blame, millions of people have the internet in this day and age so even if they don't like what the TV or the radio is playing they could do a search online and find something they'd like, I think there'll always be real artists out there in hip-hop, it's up to the fans to find them though, not just complain, the millions of fans who think hip-hop's wack need to check out albums from real mcs like Kel Spencer, Hieroglyphics, and KRS-ONE and that'll change their minds, gimmicks die but real hip-hop won't...
  25. The problem is that major labels spend time promoting wackness than promoting quality, Will's "Lost and Found" didn't get 1/10 of the promotion that the other rappers on Interscope got
